George Mason, of Morningmist Jerseys and Holsteins in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, took home the top honors in the Senior Male Division of the largest Youth Fitting Contest held to date at World Dairy Expo. The contest featured 24 youth in four divisions, hailing from eight states and one Canadian province. Mason, 20, began fitting dairy cattle at the age of 15, at the prompting of his neighbor, Josh McKay. Mason credits McKay with being a great mentor and encouraging him to learn the art of fitting dairy cattle. “I wanted to be able to get my own calf ready for 4-H shows, as well as our own cattle for the county shows,” said Mason of his desire to learn to clip. Since graduating from high school, Mason has been working as a dairy cattle fitter, as well as working on his family’s farm, where they milk 65 head of Jerseys and Holsteins. “I like the atmosphere of the shows and the friends I’ve made,” Mason said. “Seeing how the cows

is the second trip to Madison for the young Canadian. “I think it’s important to put in the time to get to where you want to be, no matter what it is you are doing,” Mason said. Turn to FITTING CONTEST | Page 3

For nearly a decade, people who have not been able to attend World Dairy Expo in person have been able to watch the show through ExpoTV – World Dairy Expo’s own live stream of the Dairy Cattle Show – right from the organization’s website. This year, people away from the grounds – or near one of many screens at the Alliant Energy Center – can watch even more. World Dairy Expo has added another channel to its live stream, which features two on-site broadcasts of WXPO News, Expo Seminars, Virtual Farm Tours and interviews from the Trade Show – Expo360. “It’s a big element. We’ve been thinking about this idea for a couple of years, and we were finally able to figure out all those details. We are excited to offer this next level of programming for those who are not able to be in attendance at Expo,” said Liz Matzke, Attendee Services Manager for World Dairy Expo.

In the past, ExpoTV has had three channels – one that covers the simultaneous breed shows in the Showring and two others that feature each breed show individually. The newest addition, Expo360, will be

ExpoTV’s fourth channel. “You’re just one click away from watching all the Dairy Cattle Show excitement, and now Trade Show excitement, as well,” Matzke said. John Salzwedel, owner
