Defeated TREVOR COONEY leans over, frustrated during Syracuse’s 66-58 overtime loss to Wisconsin. SU was outrebounded 51-25 and shot just 7-of-24 from 3 and 11-of-20 from the free-throw line. The Orange shot better than 46 percent from 3 during the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament , but couldn’t find the stroke from anywhere on the court as SU’s undefeated season ended. Faculty, staff members rally against travel policy By Ali Linan asst. copy editor
About 40 percent of the faculty and staff at Syracuse University have
signed a petition opposing the new travel and entertainment policy requiring them to use a designated online booking service when it comes to work-related travel.
The policy named BTI The Travel Consultants as the official travel management company for the university. Faculty and staff must also use Concur, a 24/7 online booking
portal, when they book their “university-funded, sponsored research or grant-funded travel,” according to an SU News release. see travel page 8
Father Linus DeSantis, the Catholic Chaplain of Syracuse University and SUNY-ESF, died of a heart attack on Tuesday night. DeSantis had a heart attack Sunday evening. While he was in the hospital being treated, he DESANTIS suffered another heart attack on Tuesday night. He died around 10:45 p.m., according to an email sent to some members of the SU community from Maggie Byrne, a campus minister at SU’s Catholic Center. “There is such great comfort in knowing what a faith-filled, selfless and loving man he was. There’s no doubt in my mind that he went home to be with Our Father,” Byrne said. DeSantis was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1971. He started working at SU in November 2007, according to the Hendricks Chapel website. Weekday Masses are cancelled until further notice, Byrne said. Mass on Sundays will continue for the rest of the semester, she added. A wake will be held on Friday at the SU Catholic Center at 3 p.m. The funeral will be the following day at the Franciscan Church of the Assumption at 11 a.m. “Father Linus was a beloved chaplain whose commitment to students was apparent to anyone who met him,” said Interim Hendricks Chapel Dean Samuel Clemence in an SU News release. “For eight years he has served students, faculty, staff and the larger Syracuse community passionately, and I know his presence on our campus will be dearly missed.” rsandler@syr.edu
