FEATURED PROJECT

COMMUNITY. RESIDENTIAL. TRAINING. Albany, GA

The project benefits two institutions. Albany Tech was greatly impacted during the pandemic, causing Phoebe Hospital to increase spending for traveling nurses to the area. In addition to this expense not being sustainable, the Albany Tech nursing program was struggling to retain students due to the commute to campus. The programmatic solution was to create a combination nurse-training facility and residence facility. The Center provides nursing training on the ground floor, while the two floors above offer 80 market-rate apartments.

Sacred Heart Hospital

Port St. Joe, FL

SPACIOUS. WARMING. TRANQUIL.

HLG worked together with DAG in the design of the new 25bed Gulf County Hospital for Sacred Heart Health System. Located in Port St. Joe, the 50,000-square-foot hospital and outpatient facility needed to serve the growing population of the surrounding area. Included in the facility are emergency services, surgery and radiology suites, nursing units, a women’s center, pharmacy, labs and administrative and support spaces.

Sacred Heart Medical Office Building

Port St. Joe, FL

TECHNOLOGICAL. COMMUNITY FOCUSED.

Part of the new Sacred Heart medical complex in Port St. Joe, this medical office building is the first of two additional planned buildings. Housing hospital services and offices, the building is sited to correspond to the hospital entry with a bridgeway that connects the two buildings. The building itself is designed around typical medical office rooms to allow for the most efficient use of leaseable square footage within the building. The distinguishing features are the entryway and main stair, whose design allows for an expression of arrival as well as movement to and within the building.

FRESH. INVITING. STATE OF THE ART.

Originally built in the 1970s, Northwest Medical Center underwent a major modernization, which included a new arrival plaza addressing ADA and drop-off reorganization, a pedestrian canopy bridge and fresh wayfinding signage. A skin of insulated metal panels and glass replaced the original steel, giving the building an updated appearance while correcting heat gain and noise issues from the nearby expressway. Xeriscaping created an inviting courtyard to greet guests and provide a break space for staff, while conserving water.

Atlanta, GA

The design mission was to visually enhance and activate the medical office environment, as well as provide forward-thinking solutions to create spaces that promote well-being and comfort for patients, their families and staff. The atrium features biomimicry concepts and nature-inspired solutions to create a space of healing, comfort and refuge. The first-floor space allowed for several public businesses, including a credit union, fitness center and other retail spaces.

Pediatric Center at Northside Alpharetta*

Alpharetta, GA

SLEEK. WELL-BEING. MULTI-PURPOSE.

Located in Alpharetta’s bustling medical corridor, the Pediatric Center is part of an expansive 140-acre medical campus. It houses multiple pediatric practices and tends to the well-being of both children and their families with an engaging playground and a childcare facility for staff. The new building includes a steel-frame structure with high-end curtain wall glass system and crown feature element. Circular curves are reflected in the contemporary interior design as well, including in the shape of the lighting structures.

*Designed

FAMILIAR. MODERN. MULTI-PURPOSE.

The new two-story medical office building and sports performance facility respond to the need for a state-of-the-art destination for orthopaedic treatment and elite athletic training and assessment. The clinic treats a spectrum of orthopaedic conditions and diseases, including musculoskeletal injuries, fractures and complex total joint reconstructions. The facility also includes a physical therapy gym with hydrotherapy pool, exam and diagnostic rooms and physician’s offices.

EDUCATION. EMERGENCY CARE. MODERN. Tallahassee, FL

The new Health Center provides a range of primary care services previously unavailable in the area. The clinic is served primarily by the FSU College of Medicine faculty members, providing them with the opportunity to maintain their practice skills, get valuable interaction with patients and their families, as well as teach and mentor both medical and PA students in a clinical setting. The near 10,000-square-foot, one-story complex includes 15 patient exam rooms, two rooms for behavioral health services, two health procedure rooms and a conference and community room. Directly adjacent to the building is the covered ambulance bay, providing transportation to one of the Tallahassee hospitals.

Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow*

Atlanta, GA

COMPACT. CURVED DETAILS. CONTEMPORARY.

Located in the heart of Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital corridor on Peachtree Street, the multi-tenant medical office building includes the offices and two surgery suites for Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow, a large orthopaedic practice. A compact, efficient floorplan evolved as a result of the constraints at the former restaurant site. The graceful curve of the spandrel glass allows increased visibility while traveling in either direction on Peachtree Street. Insulated glass and louvered sunshades reduce heat gain, while allowing natural light to penetrate deeper within the building. The other three facades are a combination of metal panels and glass.

CONTEMPORARY. FLEXIBLE. NEW. Cumming, GA

This ground-up medical office building features a modern design with a brick and black metal exterior and repeated window elements on the front and side building facades. The 16’ first floor boasts a high ceiling in the lobby, while the tenant space is open to remain flexible to changing equipment needs. A courtyard provides a place of respite for staff. The two-story medical office building includes ample parking, with more than 260 spots.

In Progress: Hamilton Mill Medical Office Building

Dacula, GA

WELL-BEING. NATURE INSPIRED. CONVENIENT.

Sited on one of the last undeveloped sites on Hamilton Creek Parkway, this 42,000-square-foot medical office building features stunning views of the local creek, reinforcing the benefits of nature and health. To provide for two on-site parking lots, one was constructed over a retention vault with conduits underground and infill to allow the space to be used for parking. The other lot is for physician’s parking, which provides privacy and connects to a dedicated entrance to the facility.

Northside Hospital | Women’s Imaging and ASC

Snellville, GA

Rooted in the essence of Snellville, the architecture and interior design reflects the region’s landscape, employing natural light, natural materials and earthy tones. The patient-centric Ambulator Surgery Center and Women’s Imaging suites feature comforting hues and thoughtful layouts, evoking a hotel-like atmosphere to alleviate medical anxieties. This project seamlessly integrates into the community, symbolizing support and well-being while offering a serene haven for patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Contemporary. Sleek. Vibrant.

Atlanta, GA

The design concept for the Northside Hospital Midtown Cancer Institute was developed early in the process by embracing the trendy neo-urban Midtown environment in which the new facility is located. These contemporary design elements provided the right balance to ensure they worked within the context of de-stressing the end users.

Northside Hospital | Midtown Imaging Center

Atlanta, GA

TRANSITIONAL. NEUTRAL. WARM.

Northside Hospital’s Midtown Imaging Center delivers on every client requirement: a young, contemporary, industrial look, warmed by a wood feature wall and bold fabric selections to make it more appealing and inviting. With a bevy of smart and playful elements designed to appeal to millennials, the space incorporates an innovative selection of materials and textures to create a contemporary, professional, upscale experience.

Northside Hospital | Forsyth Women’s Center

Cumming, GA

WELCOMING. CALM. UPLIFTING.

Constructed with a tight budget and an accelerated grand opening date, the project team worked together, stood behind proprietary material specifications and delivered the design aesthetic. From the oval entrance and throughout the space, design elements strike a desired design aesthetic and contemporary tone. The main design objective was to create a spa-like environment to evoke a comfortable and calming atmosphere for patients and families.

North Georgia’s remarkable economic growth and the natural mountain vistas became the foundation for the design of the Replacement Hospital. The team adopted the theme “Where Metro Meets the Mountains” while developing the interiors for the new hospital. The outcome embodies the convergence of a growing demand for cutting-edge healthcare services and technology, while rooting itself in natural materials, colors and design elements that pay special homage to the county’s unique landscape, heritage and community.

COMMUNITY. NATURAL. RELEVANT. Cumming, GA

Northside Hospital | Atlanta Patient Tower

Cumming, GA

CONTEMPORARY. FRESH. APPROACHABLE.

The design team was challenged to create a bold and welcoming “Front Door” to connect a new eight-story medical patient tower with an existing cancer institute and hospital entry portal. We turned a perceived negative, the massive concrete support column, into a positive by converting the column into a statement piece -- a colorful, inspiring mural -- and making it the heart and soul of the motor lobby. The mural was inspired by a former patient’s endearing nature, hopeful heart and uplifting attitude. Elements of her favorite activities are interwoven throughout the design.

Tanner Health System | East Alabama Hospital

FAMILIAR. SERENE. PLEASANT. Wedowee, AL

Light wood tones and stacked stone elements accentuate Tanner Health System’s public persona of superior service and attention to both visitors and patients. Taking a cue from the exterior design of the hospital, the design team brought the stacked stone inside the two-story atrium. Guests are greeted with a warm interior space with earth tones, intended to provide a sense of calm.
