Welcome to the 2023 Sydney Disability Connection Expo, sponsored Easy Healthcare. Inside this magazine, you can fnd some great profles and sponsor spotlights, advertisements from providers and updates from us here at Developing Australian Communities.
This year we are delivering the biggest events Australia has ever seen in the Disability and NDIS sector at Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. We are also launching our huge Virtual Connection Expo platform so that Australians can connect with service providers, see updates, watch on demand content, join in with virtual conferences and topic days from leaders all around the word.
The last few years have taught us all more than ever that we need lots of different ways to connect and stay connected. This is why we are partnering with so many great sponsors and building a huge network and movement with participants, families, carers, Guardians and service providers from all over Australia to help us see a disability sector we can all be proud off.
Working with the National Disability Leadership Organisation (NDLO) we are also able to support the Disability Staff Recognition Awards in each state to raise funds and support Paralympics Australia, the Australian Paralympic Team and the next generation of Paralympians. It is a huge night and a great way to take time out and look at how we can all work together.
As we always say, we don’t do halls, stalls and pamphlets alone. We know that getting out
and connecting needs to be supported and an opportunity for the community to come together and spend time together. Our Expos are community events over two days and we make sure there is plenty to do, lots of space, seating, food, entertainment and a great atmosphere so people can enjoy their time connecting. This is why we see many people come on both days just to cover everything that is on offer.
Don’t forget, if you have a burning NDIS question, make sure you swing by the Ask A NDIS Expert - Support Hub.
The last 3 years we have had the honour of being on hundreds of items of coverage across radio, TV and print media raising awareness of important issues and changes in the disability sector and NDIS space. We have also had the opportunity to connect media outlets with some amazing service providers and people living with disability to share their stories.
With the huge media presence we experience here at Developing Australian Communities, our Expos and campaigns, we have grown our marketing solutions departments and media release capacity to regularly release content, announcements, stories and updates to over 6,000 media outlets, journalists and newsrooms
around Australia. We know how time-poor service providers are and we are now helping many organisations to show what they can do, so that the people that need service options can fnd them when and where they are required.
With the Royal Commission and the huge amount of work being done by our new Minster the Hon Mr Bill Shorten and his state colleagues we have seen the Government focused on change and improvements. It has been a welcome sight in the last 12 months to see the work of leaders in Australia like Australian Paralympic legend and disability advocate Mr Kurt Fearnley AO, appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and the work done by our 2022 Australian of the Year Mr Dylan Alcott OAM.
2023 is looking to be a huge year for Australia, the Disability and NDIS Sectors. We look forward to working with so many great members of our community, services providers and sponsors. Lets make those connections and see real change!

We are thrilled to have 24/7 Care Disability Services and Actvity Hub as a proud Platnum sponsor of the Sydney Disability Connecton Expo on the 16th and 17th June at the Internatonal Conventon Centre.
The people they support, their voices and their aspiratons are central to how 24/7 Care Disability Services and Actvity Hub goes about delivering services.
Their refurbished hub on the Central Coast might be the heartbeat of their actvites, but their people are the brains behind the programs that they ofer. It is a very niche model that listens and learns from partcipants and delivers what they want and need to achieve their goals.
The program changes rapidly, as they undertake a great deal of consultaton, communicaton and collaboraton that drives the actvites and groups that are coming up.
Even nonverbal partcipants have a voice at 24/7 Care, to ensure they are included in the outcomes their ongoing consultaton achieves. 24/7 Care
Disability Services and Actvity Hub are like a family. Clients’ parents have even established a community of support as well that sees them gather regularly.
They use a trafc light system to guide the responses they receive and where everyone gives feedback to get to the point where they know that they are ofering people with disabilites and their families is what they want and need.
The hub that they’ve created is a hive of actvites and groups with diferent experiences available all the tme that respond to what clients want to achieve.
24/7 Care Disability Services and Actvity Hub have seen some very complex and
challenging behaviours but can say with absolute convicton that their success stories are exceptonal and clients who have been excluded from other providers have found a home with 24/7 Care.
Ofering Community Access, Daily Living, STA, a dementa support group, and handyman services, 24/7 Care Disability Services and Actvity Hub are all about taking a diferent and more inclusive approach to support that incorporates the voice of the partcipant every step of the way along the contnuum of care.
They operate across the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and The Hunter Region so there are plenty of opportunites for you to get involved.

I grew up in a picture-perfect home with a loving family until I realised I was a bit different from the other kids when growing up. I would always constantly worry about what others were thinking about me, what I wore, how I looked, how I acted, etc. Into my early 20s, these worries increased to the point where I would hear people talking about me, even though they were not true.
I would hear people laughing at me, falsely accusing me of different things and this paranoia progressed to the point where people were hearing my thoughts. I stopped trusting my family and friends and I cut off all communication I had with them, as they did not understand how real this was to me.
I stopped work and rarely left the house. I then started to believe that I was being spied on by the police and everyone around me. This caused a downward spiral in my life. I lost my job; I lost all my friends, and I ended up in the hospital due to my mental health state.
I got my diagnosis, and it was confrmed that I had schizophrenia all my life. I was prescribed the correct medications that manage my symptoms. I was connected to Liberty Pace Solutions on discharge. They have provided me with the mental health support I needed. My Support Workers understand my condition and know what triggers me and what does not, they support me in living life like everyone else and make sure my diagnosis does not affect my quality of life.
If you are in need of a specialist with a focus in mental health support co-ordination.
