It's that time again – the sixth edition of our travel magazine is here and waiting to be at least partially read. I know, many people nowadays don't read much anymore, whether due to
a lack of time or interest. Nevertheless, we are sticking to the concept of a magazine – at least in addition to other media.
A friend recently said that he at least looks at the beautiful pictures – well, that's something, too.
Traveling is certainly much more than just visiting foreign places; it is also a journey to ourselves. Every time we set off, we leave everyday life behind and immerse ourselves in a new world full of new impressions, people, and stories. In these moments, we realize how diverse and fascinating our planet is – and how enriching it can be to look beyond our own horizons. Accordingly, I have also thought about the topic of "home" this time and would particularly appreciate feedback on it.
By the way, we want to inspire you in this magazine to explore the world. Whether you are looking for untouched natural landscapes, vibrant metropolises, or quiet retreats –here you will find stories and tips for wanderlust. Again, in
my experience, it's often similar to reading. You might want to, but then feel like you don't have the time; a thousand everyday things stand in the way of plans and breaking out of routine, and you have to give yourself a little push to even take the first step.
It's often this first step that helps us get things moving. This applies not only to traveling. Many people strive for the greatest possible security –traveling is a state of unrest in itself, and fundamentally, you are entering something new. You have to endure that.
I have just taken such a step professionally as well; that is, saying "goodbye" to being a teacher, to fully dedicate myself to our company. Here, too, the first step took a lot of time – security, familiar routines, an established position – versus the leap into something familiar but with processes "without a 100% guarantee."
Best regards
Dorothee Rieche
However, I can tell you, that it feels wonderful. Traveling also means freedom, even if you "only" organize it.
In this edition, we primarily take you to Tanzania and Zanzibar for lovers and, of course, have pioneering tours in the desert in our program. But soon, the time will come: Our boat on Lake Nasser, the "Dabuka Blue," will make its maiden voyage and then hopefully regularly shuttle between Aswan and Abu Simbel. By the way, this is also a "first step" that we took when we launched the project almost two years ago. We would be very happy to welcome you once on the "Dabuka Blue."
In this spirit – to all readers and "nonreaders": May the pages of this magazine encourage you to take the first/next step and experience your own adventures. Later is always NOW!
We love our customers sharing their travel photos and memories with us. Use #DabukaTravelVisions when posting your photos on social media and you could appear on this page and be in the running to win a $ 100 gift voucher!
The winners' photos will also have the chance to be featured in our next issue.
Our winner in this issue is Oliver Rieche, Maadi Egypt.

We love to hear about your amazing experiences with us and all your wonderful feedback is most welcome!
It was a great experience, compared to what you usually do in Cairo. The food was AMAZINGGGG!! The live Nubian band was a whole vibe on its own. On top of that I’ve learned and seen things about Egypt that I’ve never knew before. Thanks for this great experience, and definitely put me down for the next time.
by Omar Fadda
My experience there was beautiful I had so much to know and it was my first time to such a thing so to learn about it and be surrounded with my friends was amusing and the food was delightful and extremely tasteful and there were good energies throughout the spaces and then we were proceeded to watch a documentary about the place and how it started and we proceeded to listen to music and witness fun traditional performances.

This experience reminded us of the importance of family, friends, and the joy of coming together in nature's embrace. Overall, it was amazing! The food was excellent, and the Nubian show was particularly spectacular We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our time there.

My experience at Dabuka Cultural Day was truly incredible. From the moment we arrived at the meeting point, we were warmly welcomed and guided to private cars. The day ended with the same positive energy as we said our goodbyes.
building, especially during sunset, was unforgettable The timing was perfect, and the food and hospitality were excellent
I had so much fun meeting new people, dancing with the Nubian performers, and capturing memorable photos Thank you, Dabuka, for this incredible experience I’m definitely looking forward to attending future events!

I loved every activity we participated in. Exploring the nature preserve was amazing—it was astonishing to find such a unique building in the middle of this remote area. The combination of being surrounded by nature while inside the
I wanted to take a moment to thank you and your team for organizing such an incredible event. It was a fantastic experience, and I truly enjoyed every moment. Your attention to detail and passion for creating memorable
experiences were evident throughout the event and I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead. Please keep me in the loop for future events and trips

It was so much fun attending the cultural event organized by Dabuka that June evening in Wadi Degla.
From the choice of the place, charming sunset in the desert and the eco friendly venue, to the Nubian cultural show and getting along with very interesting and laid back people from all over the world.
I had a special interest in learning more about Dabuka tours, particularly the one with Nile crocodile watching, and I’m looking forward to learning more about these Nile tours specially if there was any bird watching.

The get-together on the last evening of May in the Wadi Degla Nature Reserve was an unforgettable way to conclude my time in Egypt From afar, the cultural center—reminiscent of a historic fort—already evokes a unique atmosphere But the true highlight lies just behind it: the Wadi itself—an endless expanse of desert, where the silence and emptiness are a soothing contrast to the hectic and overcrowded Cairo
In the warm, family-like atmosphere, I met people from Egypt, Germany, Europe, and even South America Everyone was open to meeting others and exchanging ideas The program
was as diverse as the people: a modern dance performance to contemporary music, followed by a Nubian dance group that captivated the audience with historical instruments and traditional costumes—and even got some to join in A truly unique experience!
We were also treated to culinary delights: freshly squeezed orange juice in abundance, typical dishes, and delicious desserts perfectly rounded off the evening
This outing will remain an unforgettable memory for me Thank you, Tarek and Dorothee, for your dedication in giving me so many opportunities to experience Egyptian nature and culture!

Dabuka Travel Visions – Call it a dream.”
This is our motto as we continually strive to do things that surprise people, foster togetherness, and provide information at the same time.
On May 31, 2024, our Wadi Degla Cultural Event took place.
The so-called Wadi Degla is a national park just outside Cairo, where you can hike, camp, stargaze, and celebrate. We did the latter.
I was frequently asked by participants, “Why do you do all this, go through such great effort, transport equipment, food, and many people to a remote location, and not even make any money doing it?”
Probably for several reasons—firstly, to truly bring together different cultures. This time, the focus was on Nubia—not coincidentally, as our new boat, the “Dabuka Blue”, will begin operating there on Lake Nasser starting in September. A fantastic band from Nubia introduced all the guests to this special region in Egypt with music and dance.
Additionally, we showed documentaries about a tour on Lake Nasser, specifically dedicated to the search for crocodiles, as well as about an abandoned art center—El Shona—near Alexandria, whose owner is seeking allies to revive it.
A solo dance performance by my son Oliver was another highlight, filled with incredible energy.
exchange on many levels.
But also, simply to give people a beautiful, carefree evening and to give those who want to share their own dreams a voice
And since this time we had guests of all ages and backgrounds, there was an
Honestly—as an organizer, you’re particularly happy when everything has gone well and is over But at the same time, we’re delighted with the many positive feedbacks and are proud to have once again organized something “beside the mainstream ”
Mark your calendars for September 16th, 2024, as our new boat, “Dabuka Blue”, embarks on its maiden voyage from Aswan to Abu Simbel. Every Monday, this luxurious boat will depart Aswan for a 4night journey, offering an intimate exploration of Lake Nasser and the majestic temples of Abu Simbel.
On Fridays, “Dabuka Blue” will set sail for a 3-night return journey back to Aswan. With accommodations for up to 10 guests, “Dabuka Blue” is perfect for family gatherings or celebrating unforgettable events on the tranquil waters of Lake Nasser. Experience personalized service, stunning views, and the beauty of Nubia aboard this exclusive vessel.
On September 27th, 2024, the Moulid ElNabi celebration will take place on Haissa Island in Nubia, a region known for its rich heritage and vibrant traditions. This significant Islamic festival commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad and is celebrated with a unique blend of devotion and local customs.
The day is marked by colorful processions known as "Zaffa," where locals dress in traditional garments, and Sufi practices
are showcased through rhythmic drumming and chanting In Nubia, Sufi orders like the Qadiriyya and Sammaniyya are an integral part of the celebrations, with devotional acts (Dhikr) creating a powerful spiritual atmosphere Families come together to share traditional dishes, reinforcing the sense of community, and charity is emphasized through the distribution of food to the less fortunate. Join the Nubian people in this deeply spiritual occasion and experience an unforgettable celebration of faith and tradition
Get ready for a Pioneer Weekend in Egypt's Western Desert. From Friday to Saturday we take you in the sand for explorations.
After Tarek's story about his long journey from Germany via Libya to Cairo has now come to an end, a completely different story came to mind, which for me is also closely intertwined with the theme of "traveling."
The theme of "home" has occupied our family since my early childhood. My whole life seems to have been a search for home, but something was always missing. So, does home really exist, or do we have to constantly redefine it?
I grew up with the concept of a "lost home," As my parents were among the many refugees from the eastern territories who had to build a new life after the war. They were actually successful in doing so – but the thought of the "lost home" remained. I loved the stories my parents and uncles told about a life in a different world – not in the big city, but rather in the countryside on an estate, with crazy pranks that the children came up with back then, and a healthy dose of freedom.
The new life eventually began in Berlin, where my sisters and I were also born. We spent the first part of our childhood there –my mother still managed to speak of a beloved "home" – but even that was fleeting.
For professional reasons, our family moved to Munich – a big leap both internally and externally. There was the "Berliner Hascherl" who didn't understand the language! And in the first winter, I broke a leg – I wasn't used to snow and mountains.
My parents' odyssey ended here – they lived in a suburb of Munich for the rest of their lives and earnestly tried to provide us with a real home. Yet, like a background melody, especially for me, the thought of the lost home remained ever-present. Added to this was my mother's second lost home, Berlin – we were a bit "rootless."
Perhaps it was around this time that I began to think again and again about what "home" actually means, in general and for me. There are many scholarly treatises and even more opinions on this subject. And one doesn’t constantly think about it.
The fact was also that traveling played a significant role in our family. A real wanderlust drove us to nearly every corner of the world, from Africa to Indonesia, to America and Asia. Of course, a Nile cruise was also included
“The journey is the destination" – this was our motto, and to this day, one of my favorite places to stay is any major airport. I think this wanderlust would have
existed even without the lost home.
As an anchor point, Germany still seemed to be my "home," familiar and safe – but also a bit constricting at times
So I came to Egypt, where I have now been living permanently since 2009 and will probably remain. I feel at home – but it won't become home. However, when I now fly back to Germany to visit, I'm not entirely sure if that is supposed to be home either. People and things change while you're away, they become foreign. And being a visitor in your own homeland, where you're ultimately glad to leave again, also feels strange.
And after recently learning from my hairdresser that my hair is clearly not 'German' but rather resembles African hair, I guess I will never truly know where my roots really are.
But before this all sounds too melodramatic: On all the stations of my life so far, I have met people who were and are home to me Foremost, my children (who also have the travel gene and are currently at home between Melbourne and Cairo – temporarily ) Of course, my husband, Tarek, whose way
of being holds me wherever I am. And good friends, who, although left behind at different crossroads, still give me an inner home of like-mindedness through our continued contact.
So my final realization is, that "home" might really be a fluid concept, something we carry within us that evolves with our life expectations. Instead of seeking a "true" home, we could learn to find home in the moments and relationships that fulfill us.
Traveling is always a part of this. New cultures, new people who open new horizons for us. That's why Dabuka has also become a home for me because we convey exactly these experiences, and you always meet like-minded people here.

Tanzania is as diverse a country as any other travel destination—and one of the safest and most peaceful countries in Africa For decades, it has been governed by a democratically elected government, with no animosities or conflicts between ethnic groups Christians and Muslims live together in harmony
As one of Africa’s most popular and safest vacation spots, Tanzania offers unique and world-renowned highlights, which we would love to guide you through For example:
The Ngorongoro Crater and the neighboring Serengeti, made famous in Germany and worldwide by Michael and Bernhard Grzimek, continue to be the grand stage of the annual Great Wildebeest Migration
Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest free-standing volcano in the world, often referred to as the “Roof of Africa” at 5,895 meters—an undoubtedly challenging and unforgettable hike
Zanzibar, the Spice Island with a long tradition and coral reefs that rank among the most beautiful in East Africa
What Should You Know About Tanzania?
Tanzania (United Republic of Tanzania), covering an area of 945,087 km² , was formed from the merger of the former German colony of Tanganyika with Zanzibar.
Between Lake Victoria and the East African Rift Valley, savannas and lava deserts stretch out, with rocky peaks and volcanic landscapes rising, revealing rain-forests and tropical beaches.
The country is home to 58 million people belonging to more than 120 different tribes, and over 100 languages are spoken here. Dar es Salaam, located on the coast, is the largest city with 2.6 million residents. The official capital of Tanzania is the much smaller Dodoma, which is more centrally located in the country.
On December 9, 1961, Tanzania achieved its long-awaited independence after nearly 80 years of colonial occupation by Germany (18901918) and England (1920-1961). The first President, Julius Kambarage Nyerere, is still revered as the “Father of the Nation.”
“Cradle of Humankind” Paleoanthropologists believe that the cradle of humankind lies in the East African Rift Valley. While bone finds of modern humans (Homo sapiens) in Europe date back about 1.5 million years, discoveries in East Africa reach almost 6 million years. In the late 1950s, the British researcher couple, the Leakeys, made a sensational discovery between the Ngorongoro Highlands and the Serengeti savannas, in the 100-meter-deep Olduvai Gorge: the bones of a 2-million-year-old human.
JAMBO – means “Hello” in Swahili
The term safari comes from the Swahili word meaning journey. However, in the Western world, a Tanzania safari is mainly associated with the search for wild animals. The most popular animals are the Big Five: Lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos. But Tanzania also boasts countless other impressive animal species and hundreds of beautiful, colourful birds.
To enter Tanzania, you need a visa and a passport valid for at least six months upon your return. You can apply for the Tanzania visa online directly through the Tanzanian Immigration Department. It costs 50 US dollars. It is also possible to obtain it upon arrival at the airport.
The climate in Tanzania is characterized by two distinct seasons, which hardly differ from each other. The temperatures are consistently pleasant but can vary due to differences in altitude.
Tanzania is a safe travel destination. It has even been labeled the safest country in Africa. Politically, the country is stable.
The voltage in Tanzania is not the same as in Europe. Hotels in Tanzania have a voltage of 220–240 volts, but it can fluctuate significantly. The sockets are three-pin (British). It is best to purchase a world adapter. Please note that electricity is not available 24/7 in many lodges and camps.
With vast open plains and an abundance of wildlife as far as the eye can see, the Serengeti is a safari maker’s dreamland. As the park is so expansive, it is ideally recommended to spend several days exploring. Serengeti National Park spans across 14,763 square kilometres and is easily the largest and arguably most popular of the northern circuit National Parks. The Serengeti is host to the annual awe-inspiring Great Migration
Every year, approximately 1.5 million zebras and wildebeest embark on a remarkable journey across the Serengeti ecosystem in Tanzania.
From December to March, the southern Serengeti comes alive with the calving season, as newborn animals take their first steps in the world. It's a breathtaking sight to behold.
As the seasons change, the herds make their way to the western Serengeti from April to June, marking the start of their epic migration. This is the perfect opportunity to witness the sheer numbers and powerful movements of these animals.
From July to October, the northern Serengeti becomes the stage for one of nature's most dramatic events – the crossing of the Mara River. It's a thrilling spectacle as the herds navigate through the treacherous waters, facing the lurking crocodiles.
By November, the migration starts its journey back to the eastern Serengeti, completing the incredible cycle Along the way, you'll have numerous opportunities to witness this extraordinary wildlife phenomenon
No matter which of our accommodations you choose, you can rest assured that you'll have ample chances to witness the Great Migration firsthand It's an experience that will leave you in awe of nature's wonders and create lasting memories
Accommodation in a comfortable Safari Lodge completes your adventure
However, there is much more to explore and discover in the Serengeti than just the Great Migration This vast and diverse ecosystem is renowned for its exceptional game drives, offering you the opportunity to encounter the iconic Big 5
The Big 5 refers to Africa's most impressive wildlife species: the lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo These magnificent animals are the epitome of African wildlife and spotting each of them is a thrilling experience The Serengeti's open plains and varied landscapes provide an ideal habitat for these majestic creatures
Must have seen:
Serengeti’s Seronera area is located in the southcentral region of the park and is well known for being the habitat of a large number of big cats; the lion, leopard and cheetah are often spotted here However, the elephant, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, buffalo and impala are also well- known visitors The area is very popular as it is one of the most likely spots to watch a kill The landscape is dotted with ‘’kopjes’’ , rocky granite or Gneiss outcrops, over 550 million years old and in high favour by some of the cats as look-out points while hunting
THE WORLD’S LARGEST, INACTIVE, INTACT AND UNFILLED CRATER
The Ngorongoro Crater is a World Heritage Site, the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and is known as the eighth wonder of the world. Due to the natural rims of the crater, there is an abundance of wildlife throughout the conservation area that is home to the Big Five, including the African black rhino, as well as hyenas, zebras and elephants, to name a few
Without a doubt, the crater is a must-see on any northern circuit itinerary
There are different packages to choose between 2 days and 14 days, with extension Zanzibar or without Together with our partners we care about everything SERENGETI

What Makes Lake Nasser Special for Fishing?
Fishing on Lake Nasser offers a unique and exhilarating experience for anglers seeking adventure in one of the world's largest man-made lakes Located in southern Egypt, Lake Nasser stretches over 500 kilometers and is renowned for its abundance of large fish, including the legendary Nile perch
Lake Nasser is a prime destination for anglers due to its rich ecosystem and relatively untouched waters. The lake is home to various fish species, with the Nile perch being the most sought-after due to its size, often exceeding 100 kilograms. Other fish species include tiger fish, vundu catfish, and tilapia.
Fishing on Lake Nasser typically involves a range of techniques such as trolling, casting, and spinning. Anglers can also engage in fly fishing and drift fishing, depending on their preference. High-quality fishing equipment is usually provided by the tour operator, but experienced anglers are welcome to bring their own gear.
A typical fishing trip on Lake Nasser begins with an early morning departure to take advantage of the best fishing conditions. Anglers will be accompanied by experienced guides who know the best spots on the lake. These guides are familiar with the habits of the local fish and provide valuable tips on how to catch the prized Nile perch.
Fishing is conducted from comfortable motorized boats, allowing access to remote areas of the lake. After a morning of fishing, a delicious lunch is often served on the boat or on the shores of the lake The afternoons can include more fishing, relaxation, or exploring the nearby scenery.
Fishing tours on Lake Nasser follow strict guidelines to ensure the sustainability of the lake's ecosystem. Catch-and-release practices are often encouraged, especially for larger fish, to help maintain healthy fish populations for future generations of anglers.
Lake Nasser is not only a top destination for catching some of the largest freshwater fish in the world, but it also offers a peaceful and remote environment that adds to the thrill of the adventure Whether you are an experienced angler or a beginner, fishing on Lake Nasser provides a once-in-alifetime opportunity to test your skills and enjoy the natural beauty of southern Egypt
Sometimes it's just necessary: "Off to the sand!"
Egypt's Western Desert has plenty to offer, and one should never believe they’ve seen all the regions. How about the following suggestion:
We simply head out to the Western Desert on a weekend, set up our camp there, and get ready to explore the region.
Specifically: We start early on Friday from Cairo and arrive at our campsite around noon. After setting up our camp, we’ll have lunch first (our cook can conjure up almost 5-star meals ).
In the afternoon, we'll set off with our cars on an initial exploration tour of the surroundings. Of course, we can't reveal more details at this point since it’s supposed to be a pioneer tour. But one thing is certain: there is beautiful scenery and much to discover.
At sunset, our cook will greet us again with a delicious dinner—it truly tastes better here than anywhere else!
And afterward, everyone can dream under the starry sky.
The next morning, after breakfast, there’s another chance to go on a discovery journey, followed by lunch, and then we’ll head back to Cairo.
It sounds simple—it is simple. With sand in our shoes and renewed energy, we’ll start the new week.

Dabuka: “Hi Nofal, Thank you for taking the time to have a conversation today Just tell me: How did you end up at Dabuka?”
Nofal: “I originally wanted to buy sand mats. Tarek was recommended to me for this. I got the sand mats from him and at the same time realized that he is a special person. He had kept the only 4 sand mats he had for sale for a friend who wanted to buy them, but never did. I thought to myself that someone who values friendship more than money must be a good person. And that has been confirmed for me with Tarek.”
Dabuka: “A kind of trademark of yours is a small, yellow rubber duck that travels with you. What's the story behind that?”
Nofal: “Well, somehow I wanted to have such a duck as a mascot but couldn't find anything suitable in Egypt. So, I asked a friend who came from the United Arab Emirates if he could bring me such a duck. He was very surprised that this was all I wanted. But I was very happy with this little duck that has accompanied me everywhere since. She is so bright and friendly and always smiles – she is simply a "Good Mood Duck." Whenever I'm in a new place, I take a picture with her – sometimes she even gets to swim in the pool. :-)”
Dabuka: “I know that you like to collect things, is that right?”
Nofal “Oh yes, this hobby has taken hold of me, even though it's slowly getting a bit too much I love buying old things (Gameboys, iPads, etc ) and repairing them Of course, I have to find the right parts first, and that takes a lot of time and money I now have Gameboys in all colors at home – but I can't part with them anymore because each one has my work in it and has become unique because of that And I love – almost as a project – always having different old things at home that are still waiting for repair That just makes me very satisfied By the way, I also collect music I have already saved 7,000 songs ”
Dabuka: “Wow – but you also like to cook, right?”
Nofal: “Yes, first of all, I like reading recipes I then imagine the taste very precisely – and most of the time, it’s correct Then I experiment with ingredients, sometimes I even mix two recipes But the results are usually quite delicious I also like healthy food, which I prefer to make myself ”
Dabuka: “I know, we've also benefited when we've suddenly received a whole cake! – Anyway, you also love the desert and had your first experience with it in an unusual way”.
Nofal: “Yes, I was very young and had a VW Beetle. And suddenly, I decided that I wanted to drive it into the desert. Alone. So, I bought afew supplies and just set off. Honestly – back then, I was firmly convinced that everything would go well – and it did. It was only afterward, when my mind kicked in, that I hada lot of doubts. That’s why I never again blindly embarked on a desert tour. However, at Dabuka, I could still learn a lot in this regard”.
Dabuka: “And what do you wish for the future?”
Nofal: “A healthy, happy life and – maybe – to have my own company one day, something similar to Dabuka”.
Dabuka: “We are, however, happy if you stay with us for a while longer because you fit in wonderfully with all the "crazy guys with big dreams" who make up Dabuka Thank you for the conversation!”
