On a more serious note, I do also want to address the California wildfires, which unfortunately has affected many members of our division. I’m so sorry to those who have been affected by the fires or have friends or family affected- this is such a devasting time and I hope
you guys find safety. In the remaining months, I will try my best to find service projects that will assist those who have faced home displacement from the fires. I love you all and pray for your safety.

WELCOME TO 2025! I hope the new year is serving you all right and hopefully you’re living up to whatever resolutions you made! With the new semester starting, make sure to stay on top of things. Don’t feel discouraged if you had a bad first semester, but use it as motivation to succeed in this one! I know I definitely will, and remember to prioritize your mental health even though your studies are important. Thank you so much for supporting and reading the newsletter, and I hope you enjoy the first of 2025!
The event was the Chatsworth Holiday Parade & Festival which is held by Chatsworth Kiwanis every December This event includes a parade showcasing various communities and what they have to offer as well as a car show As Key club members we helped set up tents and the festival in the morning shift, then in the afternoon we participated in the parade either helping with banners and walking or being on a float. There was also an opportunity to help with the kids section and other things as well Working together we were able to help vendors set up their tents and guide them to their corresponding area, as well as set up trash cans and recycling bins around. During the parade volunteers walked a few miles holding banners so that they could be seen Being able to be a part of this grand event hosted by our fellow Kiwanis is a great experience for all of our members who participated
OThis event was the last semester of the Winter Semester at Taft. It was attended by officers and members of Taft Key Club. We celebrated the year as a whole and the increased participation this year! The main event was informing members of any new events during the time and also bonding and celebrating the year! The event was very fun and I was very happy as a lot of the paid dues member showed up to also come to celebrate the year and we were able to take a group picture which doesn’t usually happen to the phone ban on LAUSD schools.
On December 15, Division 16 West hosted a DCM that consisted of making toys for dogs in pet shelters. To do this, we cut up fabric from old shirts and pillow cases into 2 inch wide strips, braiding them until they became little ropes that the dogs can tug on. This is one of my favorite services because it’s so fun to do as a pastime with friends and I know that it benefits the dogs, who don’t usually get service projects dedicated to them. As I braided, I got to chat with my SOCES Key Clubbers and also reunite with the other division members, who I hadn’t seen since our time at Fall Rally. Overall, it was a successful service day and definitely worth it!

District Judging Committee applications are now OPEN! Serving on the District Judging Committee not only allows you to learn more about the contest application process but also fulfills the District Committee MRP Requirement! DCON REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
District Convention (DCON) is an annual event to celebrate all the achievements of the previous term, elect the new District Executive Board, attend a variety of educational workshops, meet new Key Clubbers from all over California, Nevada, and Hawai’i, and finally, welcome in the new term together.
