By: Aastha Randhawa (West Ranch) It was the morning of August 5, as Key Clubbers from Alemany, Arleta, Canyon, Golden Valley, Saugus, Sylmar, Valencia, West Ranch, and Hart came together at the Dockweiler Beach to participate in the Region 7 Beach Clean. The Beach Clean Up was an opportunity for members to collect beach trash to make the beach a nicer, safer place and also preserve the beach and ocean ecosystem. There were also several interactive activities, in addition to the beach clean up, that made the event more enjoyable. The August DCM was also held with the beach clean up. Region 7 partnered with Heal the Bay to pick up trash and make the beach a better place for everyone. The event started with just relaxing at the beach. Key clubbers were put into groups of 6 to pick up the trash. Fall Rally is coming up, so practicing the cheers was crucial to increase the spirit. Members also participated in several ice breaker games such Pancho and Sweetheart. West Ranch Key Club Officer, Andrew Benser, mentioned that he would highly recommend attending the event because it was a lot of fun. The Region 7 Beach Clean was not only a success in helping protect the environment, but it was also a success in that people from different schools were able to come together and form relationships that will last 12 a lifetime.

JULY DCM By: Denise Cruz (Valencia) The July DCM was held at the Boys and Girls Club on the 22nd from 1-4pm. LTG Nikki began the meeting by emphasizing the use of Remind and sending all information like agenda and announcements through the app. The usual recitation of the pledge, introduction of guests, and roll call were completed. Topics such as the Pediatric Trauma Program and the $3000 goal for the year were discussed, as well as the upcoming Region 7 Beach Clean Up. Lastly, the winner of the t-shirt design competition was announced and images of the shirt were sent. The more fun and active portion of the DCM started with a game of Poncho and a spirit cheer competition. The members had the opportunity to show their dance moves and cheer memorization skills off through the icebreakers and the games.

Soon after, the members were put in groups of three to begin the service project of making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless (but not right before washing their hands of course)! The ingredients, gloves, and Ziploc bags were distributed and each person in the group had a specific task of either spreading the jelly, the peanut butter, or bagging them. Because the members were being very productive, a break and a free popsicle were well deserved. A total of 205 sandwiches were made and given to the Santa Clarita and Glendale homeless shelters. Thank you for a successful and amazing DCM Key Clubbers!!

VALENCIA: First Officer Meeting By: Skylar Cho On August 7 at Barnes and Noble, the Valencia Key Club officers met with lieutenant governor Nikki Sohn to discuss new ideas, and any ways to make Valencia key club a fun and exciting club for the upcoming year! We discussed many ways we can improve on membership participation, by giving hour sheet requirements for example. Our club plans on making hour sheets a requirement because we want lots of key club members this year that have the right mindsets about helping the and want to make sure that the morals of our club are clearly stated to each individual. We also talked about ways to get our weekly club meetings more exciting and fun. We were thinking of making our meetings informative but at the same time enjoyable by playing games or doing cheers. We also are thinking of different ways to improve communications through the officers and members. One way we can do this is through different ways of social media. We have big plans on what is to come because us officers were thinking of starting a whole new website that is constantly active, we may also start using different social media platforms, and the club editors might start new ways to get our articles out to everyone. With the help of all of our amazing Valencia Key Club officers, we will make this upcoming year an extremely great time.
