How to set up a cell phone to upload photos to One Drive

SPOTLIGHT

OneDrive is the Microsoft cloud service that connects you to all your files. It lets you store and protect your files, share them with others, and get to them from anywhere on all your devices.

Most Caltrans employees have a OneDrive account associated with their Caltrans ID. You can connect your cell phone to this account using the Microsoft OneDrive App, available for both Android and Apple devices.

Note: As of this writing, IT is evaluating OneDrive App for use on Caltrans devi-ces. You are responsible for any charges associated with its use. Contact your IT department to enquire as to whether you are permitted to install Microsoft OneDrive App on a state cell phones. The App will appear in the Caltrans HUB after evaluation and approval by IT.

4 INNOVATION QUARTERLY

Setting up OneDrive App to synchronize photos to your Caltrans OneDrive account:

• Launch the OneDrive App

• Sign in using your Caltrans e-mail address

• From the App’s home screen, tap on your image or initials in the upper-left.

• From there click on Photos.

• In the upper right you will see a button to turn on “Camera Upload”, which takes you to a screen where you can set the slider.

• Confirm the choice.

• You are given the options to whether to use cellular data, include videos and how the photos should be organized.

iPhones store their photos and videos in HEIC, which isn’t natively read on our Windows installation. It may be more convenient to store them in a format that is more widely useable. To do that, go to Settings->Camera->Formats->. Check the “Most Compatible” box.

Once the synchronization is complete you will see “Up to date” on the OneDrive App’s photo screen.

To access the photos on your computer, make sure are signed into Microsoft (should be by default). The photos will be placed in your Pictures folder. By default, synchronized photos are placed in the “Camera Roll” folder and organized by year and month. You can also access the photos on your OneDrive account on-line.

INNOVATION

At a luncheon held in November 2022 at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Garden in Liberty Station, WTS San Diego and ITS SoCal hosted a Panel Discussion featuring the City of Chula Vista, the City of San Diego, SANDAG, and Caltrans. This panel discussion showcased our regional community’s latest innovations in intelligent transportation systems, data collection, and transportation technology deployment.

Specific topics included city data collection and policy development for Micro-mobilities, curbside management, and mobility hubs. This program also discussed our connected and automated vehicle (cav) future and the implementation of a range of technologies at a local United States-Mexico Port of Entry for positive impacts on border wait times.

Not only did attendees learn about the latest advancement and implementation of transportation technologies, but also insights on lessons learned and panelist recommendations for adopting trending technologies in their respective communities and local agencies.

Yearly Delivery

The Yearly Delivery Calendar is an interactive calendar comprised of our delivery status milestone dates. Highlight actions allow the user to interact with the dashboard and display delivery status colors or day detail colors. The day detail color displays CTC meeting dates, Holidays, Observed Holidays, days with milestones, and two events occurring in one day. The detail status color highlights days in which milestones meet a certain criteria such as delivered by plan date, due in next 30 days, or due after plan and in plan quarter. If a user selects a certain day, the day detail text box will appear with all the milestone(s), associated project(s), and the status of the milestone(s) for that day.

Similar to the Yearly Delivery Calendar, the Monthly Delivery Calendar is also an interactive calendar comprised of our delivery status milestone dates. Highlight actions allow the user to interact with

If a user selects a certain day/week number, the week detail text box will appear with all the milestone(s), associated project(s), and the status of the milestone(s) for that week.

What differentiates the Monthly Delivery Calendar from the Yearly Delivery Calendar is that users don’t have to select a day to see what events are occurring for that day. The project(s) and milestone(s) are displayed under each day, with the option to select a week number for a detailed look at that week.

District 11 Caltrans Active Transportation Plan

The D11

Programs

created heavy duty stickers with QR codes that link to the Caltrans Active Transportation Plan survey. These QR stickers were placed on the ground within the right -of-way where people walking, biking, or rolling could see them and scan their devices to access the survey.

This “ virtual “ and “socially distanced” method of outreach was created during the beginning of the COVID -19 Pandemic when we were figuring out ways to operate non -traditionally. This method proved to be effective. Below are examples of how the QR stickers were placed.

The D11 Multimodal Programs Branch team filmed outreach videos in English and Spanish Multimodal Branch team Fliers and posters in English and Spanish were circulated throughout the district to inform people about the plan and engagement activities. The “Clowder” Tool was created by the consultant Tierra Plan and allows us to visualize and track survey responses from the public (top) and our partners (bottom). This input will help us to develop better active transportation facilities across District 11.

The D11 GIS Team created the Active Transportation and Complete Streets Asset Inventory Data Viewer as a platform to more efficiently and effectively catalog and track existing and planned complete streets facilities.

Seth Cutter • Complete Streets Branch Chief

What was the innovation?

Our District CAT Plan Outreach Team came up with the idea to develop Quick Response (QR) Code stickers that would link survey respondents to the DCAT Plan Survey web page.

What was the challenge or need that inspired the innovation?

D-11 was entering the public engagement phase of their DCAT Plan while COVID-19 had its’ grips on the US. In-person outreach/engagement for the District Survey was not an option.

What are the results of the innovation?

Nearly 2000 responses were obtained from the general public via the QR Codes. The information collected from the general public was used to help create a better D11 Caltrans Active Transportation

Plan in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Safety First

During the pandemic, in-person interactions would be considered a health risk. This effort allowed the District to maintain required social distancing while giving people who use our facilities an avenue to provide input. It also kept surveyors off the roadways, reducing/ eliminating exposure to traffic.

Cultivate Excellence

As far as we know, this innovation is the first in Caltrans and may provide a future method to collect public input (Lead the Way).

Multimodal Network

This effort was directly related to the development of the DCAT Plan. The Plan will inform active transportation investments going forward.

Climate Action

Improving our SHS to make walking and bicycling more comfortable for all users (based on feedback from the survey) will get more people out of their cars and more willing to use alternatives to the motor vehicle and help California realize our GHG reduction goals.

Equity & Livability

The QR stickers were deployed across the District with a focused effort on Areas of Need and Disadvantaged Communities.

There is an awareness among our District Division of Planning and Local Assistance that these neighborhoods have been disproportionately affected by highway planning and construction, and extra efforts were made to place stickers in high-foot/bicycle traffic areas of many of these neighborhoods in the District.

11 SPRING EDITION

Additionally, active transportation improvements in all communities are tied to improved livability.

What year was the innovative solution implemented?

4/19/2021

Directly Impacted 2022 Active Transportation Plan

Was this innovation implemented state-wide, district-wide, or within your office?

District-wide

Who was involved?

Planning & Local Assistance Division

Complete Streets Program Branch Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

What was the process for implementing this innovation?

Fliers and posters in English and Spanish were circulated throughout the District to inform people about the plan and engagement activities.

What is next for this innovation?

We can use this method to collect the general public’s input on Active Transportation and other items pertaining to Caltrans.
