Clinicians and other helpers lack skills and confidence in basic interviewing skills to obtain the data necessary to uncover this information or make these decisions. This workshop will focus on proven, research-based interviewing techniques to maximize helpers’ skills and confidence in obtaining essential information about suicidal ideation, intent, and planning to more effectively assess, refer, and manage acute risk in patients with substance use and co-occurring disorders.

Understanding Psychological Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care Part 1

Traumatic experience in the history of addiction and mental health clients is extremely common. However, the impact of trauma can be difficult for service providers to recognize. This introductory workshop assumes attendees have little knowledge of trauma and PTSD. This training will provide an understanding of psychological trauma and define trauma-informed, trauma-responsive and trauma specific care. There will be a focus on types of trauma, including socio-cultural trauma.

September 11, 2024 9am - 4pm 6

Exploring Connection and Empowerment in Leadership With Horses

Incorporating the principles of Brene Brown’s Leadership from her Let’s Rumble and the Good to Great book, women leaders will explore principles of self-awareness and self-reflection in connection with equine partners. During interactive activities, women will lean into vulnerability in exploring somatic awareness in the moment. In teamwork exercises, the group will work on activities to stay curious in present moment experiences, and stick with the “messy middle” of interaction with the horse partners, each other and applications in their own leadership roles. In completing a leadership self-assessment tool, women will explore their top two skills and to work on and stretch - and in journaling exercises explore lessons of learning from women leaders they admire. Horses as prey and herd animals seek authentic connection - and in this regard, connection with them provides wonderful opportunities for learning and self-reflection. Lessons we’ll explore are what Harriet Lerner shared: to listen with the same passions in which we want to be heard – and horses allow, by their presence, for connection in self-reflection, curiosity, and trying new skills for empowerment and leadership.

**This workshop will take place at Dream View Farm, located at 37 Valley View Dr, Meriden CT and is limited to 12 participants.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for Trauma, Anxiety and Depression: A Brief Relational Approach to Healing and Personal Growth

Mental health diagnoses such as trauma, anxiety, and depression can oftentimes feel overwhelming and isolating. Nagging symptoms can sometimes hold people hostage with an inability to connect with others at home, work, and/or school. Relationships whether personal or professional can already feel overwhelmingly complicated, and the complexity of such stressors deepens when trauma, anxiety, and/or depression symptoms are at play. Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) whether used in one-to-one therapy sessions, or facilitated in a group setting, is a great time limited treatment that allows clinicians to help their clients overcome common barriers to successfully cope with life adjustments, effectively deal with perceived loss, and/or navigate relationships through strategic problem solving. IPT is a phenomenal treatment that empowers clients to feel they are in control of their interpersonal functioning despite the situation.
