This month, our postcard home is from Euan Hendry who is on the CTC WINGS ATPL Integrated “Whitetail” Route. Euan and his CP completed their flight training at our Crew Training Centre – Phoenix and had some unforgettable adventures along the

way…

We started flying at the beginning of December and quickly started to find our wings in the arid and unfamiliar territory. While flying the Diamond DA40 on solo flights and enjoying the stunning scenery that Arizona has to offer, it makes you feel very privileged to be going through flight training. Even more so to be flying with CTC Aviation and enjoying flying virtually brand new aircraft. For New Year we treated ourselves to a trip to Las Vegas for a few days. The journey should have seen us leaving Goodyear about midday and arriving in Vegas about 5pm... that was the plan anyway. We travelled to Vegas on the only day in 27 years that it had snowed in Nevada!

11 hours later, -5’C with no heater in the car and by virtue of a time zone change; we just made it into the hotel on the strip for the New Year celebrations. The accommodation is fantastic. Everyone is housed in the same building, each having their own room, there are also two huge swimming pools and plenty of loungers to allow for relaxing in the sun during down time. It is amazing to think that most of us have gone from very little flying experience to being holders of a CPL. I think I speak for everyone when I say that the training we have received out here has been second to none, and that facilities and aircraft that CTC Aviation offer out here are better than we could have hoped for.” Discover more ctcaviation.com/whitetail

This year our first CTC TAKEOFF graduates have commenced flying operations with airlines such as Ryanair, BA CityFlyer, Cathay Pacific, Jet2.com, Flybe and easyJet. We caught up with easyJet co pilot and CTC TAKEOFF graduate Mike Cross…

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? MICHAEL CROSS, A320 CO-PILOT, easyJet

Did you always want to be an airline pilot? Flying commercially has always been an ambition of mine. I had my first trial flight when I was 14. It was an incredible experience and only heightened my enthusiasm. What steps did you take to equip yourself with the right skills for an airline pilot career? My subject choices at school were based upon a career with the airlines. I was reliably informed that a good understanding of maths and physics were essential, so I chose to study both of these, along with geography for my A-Levels. The next decision was university or flight training. For me, going straight into flight training was the only option. I enroled on the CTC TAKEOFF modular training route and it was the best decision I have ever made. What was your training like? World–class! Training to be an airline pilot is extremely rewarding but also very challenging. I was impressed by the level of professionalism and dedication during the course. How did your training prepare you for your airline pilot career? The training is completely airline-focused. Flying state-of-the-art aircraft with instructors who have airline backgrounds fully prepares you for when you join an airline. How did you get an airline placement? Once I had completed the commercial/instrument flight training phase of the course, I gained a place on CTC Aviation’s unique Airline Qualification Course (AQC). This was my first real experience of operating a commercial airliner in a multi-crew environment. On successful completion of the course, I was notified that I was eligible for airline placement. I attended an interview with easyJet after about a month… and I started with them 5 months later! …and your life at easyJet today? It’s an exhilarating and exciting place to work and I absolutely love my job. No two days are ever the same and the feeling of leaving the tarmac beneath you and breaking through the clouds is one that never gets old.
