INDIGENOUS PARTNERSHIPS
We acknowledge that the Bridge Festival takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), səlílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Nation).
We recognize and respect them as nations in this territory, as well as their historic connection to the lands and waters around us since time immemorial. We understand that we have a responsibility to seek out and build authentic relationships with Indigenous artists to share their knowledge and wisdom to influence our practice. As part of this process, we remain committed to engaging with, welcoming, and supporting Indigenous artists and audiences.
For 2022 the Bridge Festival featured a collaborative musical performance of Gathering of Eagles by the by Squamish Nation Elder Bob Baker, reimagined by composer Bob Buckley, and performed by the Spakwus Slulum (Eagle Song Dancers) and the West Vancouver Youth Band’s Symphonic Band. The Indigenous Learning Circle program, with storytelling and activities for all ages were also an important part of the Bridge Festival.

CULTURAL PAVILIONS
Pavilions were created by West Vancouver residents, local community groups or businesses, who volunteered to host interactive displays. Each pavilion host used art, music, and interactive performances to share unique traditional offerings. Through games, food samples, and crafts attendees were able to learn and experience the best of each host country, and generated opportunities for cross-cultural understanding.
