Recently, I work as an engineer and also judical interpreter(RU/EN/CH). As an engineer in AUO Corporation, I focus on a whoilistic hardware design process that aids smart manufacturing and smart retailing, including industrial design, mechenical design, user experience design. However, in this job, I realized that I am still willing to focus on industrial design related responsibility. Therefore, I am seeking a position, not only can I devoted the cross functional experience from my recent work, but a step further for strengthen my ability toward my industrial design related skills.

A Box-W

Energy Saving Box

A Box-W is a smart energy conservation device, that provided a precise decision among the monitored device whether running full speed or idle, via a model based PID control system: control the current input and reduce the inverter's frequency output, bringing energy conservation and carbon reduction to a new level.

AI Sterilization

The AI sterilization machine uses UVC photocatalyst as the sterilization method. AI is applied to estimate the number of bacterial colonies and adjusts it through its feedback control system to achieve the best sterilization effect.

Level Meter

Level Meter is used to prevent equipment components from sagging and impacting products or mechanisms due to wear and tear. It uses a unique mechanism to create a convenient, intuitive, and cheap level and vibration sensor.

Tensiometer

This tensiometer is different from current shutdown tension testing solutions. It provides flexible installation and non-stop real time measuring machine elasticity health degree.

Stethoscope for PHM

PHM, prognostic and health management, is a s designed to assess and monitor the health status of equipment and to predict when maintenances should be performed. Stethoscope for PHM is founded on its abundant data base and patented decision making algorithm, it can determine the machine health problem by accurately judging abnormal sounds of various machines, and prevent the monitored machine of further failure.

AU PaC particle

counter

Particle issues a lot to the yield losses in optronic manufacturing. AU PaC is a cheap particle counter that upgrade its efficacy by integrating IoT technologies. Therefore, each particle counter not only a counter, but also a sensor that can notifying user the situation of particle flows in each working spot, as for its IoT technology allowing all the sensors to transmit the wholistic real time particle infos allowing engineers to take action for preventing yeild losses immediately.

FANTA as the following project of AI CAM, various stakeholders are involved for applying this cam device in numerous retailing feilds. Let’s take a view of issue that are stated from womb to the tomb.

MANUFACTURE Too Pricy!

• Less components, less plate combinations, less fee.

• Less complicate structure, less mold are needed in each plate combination. also means less cost.

CONSTRUCTION Too Tiresome!

• I/O are not well designed, cables can’t plug in.

• When installing the host, should consider heat thermal problem everytime

• The magnets not fixed to the the camera component, result in hard construction

• The hinge is weekly designed, resulting hard rotation.

ASSEMBLY Too Complicate!

• Too many screw types: different length, different head style, not knowing where should apply which kind.

• Some parts are not ergonomical designed for assembly, result in difficult build up.

CUSTOMER Too Sharp!

• Too big, too easily recognized as a webcam!

So many issues mentioned by different stakeholders, not knowing where to start, assuming the customers’ demand as prior, I solve the issue from a bottom-up procedure.

ASSEMBLY

• The Camera Module HBV board is hard to fis on the outfit, since the hinge structure is a little bit differnet from the nail clip. It’s hard to assemble them.

CONSTRUCTION

• The structure is so thin, even FDM 3d printing method can’t print it.

• The mounting stuctur is fixed, remains no flexibility for installation.

Since the bottom-up problem solving methodology is not thoughtful enough, therefore try to add some restrictions may make the design procesmore easier.

To seek the proper limitations apply on the following design concepts, a review of the AI CAM was conducted with the mechanicans.Since the seperation of Camera Module and PCB outfit is owing to the performance of SBC, by puting all borad inside of one set of outfit is the suitable way solving the problem.

Base on the 2 platic camera outfits, numerous ideation are proposed

These ideations are developed based on the following main points:

1. 2 Plastic Camera Outfits

2. X-Z biaxial rotation

3. Mounting Method: Magnet or Clip Mount?

4. An Unique Appearance

Deliver: Fanta Prototype

With all the ideations, discussions with manufacture and mechenicans. A prototype was designed as follow:

Clip Mount

Not only have X-Z biaxial rotation, the design also refer to the clip mount on markets, considering the torque restrictions of hinge appliance, reconstructed the structure of the outfit.

With only two plastic cases,the screw type amount has been decreased.

User Experience not only exist in the end user side, but the whole design process. In this phases, the voice of the colleague make the design go further.

Installed the prototype on the bezel of 55” TV

CONSTRUCTION

• The torque and the friction of the clip mount is totally on two poles, either too tight to adjust or decay drastically after couple times of adjustments.

ASSEMBLY

• The Mounting Clip assemble still remains complexity.

• Some strutures are too fragile, it will easily ruin if pressure are applied too muchon the materials. For the assemble teamates that never be used with the material and product, the yeild rate will be high, leading to high cost.

Fanta

Fanta considers usability in different phases, the consice structure and detachable clip mount increase the adaptation of various retail feilds appliances. As for its high performance computing system, Fanta performs real-time people counting, age recognization, gender distinguishment and numerours functions that provide a database for retail industry operator oberserve and acknowledge the situation of each store instantly. Theses features bring a more customized option for applying smart retail solution in presence.

As the result, the design thinking and usability considerations of Fanta, not only focus on “End Users”, but the whole stakeholders that involves in the product line. For creating a flexible solution that meets the in presence smart retail eco system.

Consider the felxiblity of lead time and cost, Fanta remains only 2 plastic parts for the camera, that can be printed vis FDM, SLA and also for mold injection. Furthermore, the clip mount connect structure is designed to be avaliable for applying various clip mounts.

Compared with AI CAM, the screw types used for assembling Fanta had decreased from 6 to 3, also the head style and drive type had united to Round/ Cruciform. Therefore, the time used for camera assembling speeds up eight times faster.

Consider of the thermo related issues, air inhale and exhale had reposition. Furthermore, the appliance of datachable clip mount, also increase the conviniency for install Fanta.
