After being cooped up all winter I'm ready to get outside and enjoy the sun! Our community offers so many ways to Explore the Outdoors and pages 7-8 are filled with ideas from taking a history walk, to becoming a citizen scientist. Thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, CRRL is hosting an NEA Big Read. Tim O'Brien, acclaimed author of the The Things They Carried, based on his experiences in the Vietnam War, will speak on Saturday, April 27, at 3:00 followed by a book signing . Thanks to a generous sponsorship from the University , - - - - - . of Mary Washington Libraries, the event will be held at Dodd Auditorium on their Fredericksburg campus . We're also offering Perspectives on the Vietnam War, with unique programming and a special photo project. (see pages 25-26 .) Among our many program offerings, we are hosting some exciting special events this spring . In March we'll celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday at all of our branches (page 16) and this May will be our 5th annual CRRL-Con (pages 5-6) at Howell. We are partnering with Paragon Autism Services to offer the Creative Minds program for children in grades K-6 (page 17) and in April we join community partners and your representatives to celebrate Week of the Young Child with special Grow a Reader Classes (page 15). I've always loved to read, and was especially excited when I was offered my first library job in a library for an international student detachment at Ft. Belvoir, VA. I began working at CRRL in 1994.
