‘A’ GRADE AVALANCHE!
One of the many pleasing aspects of this summer’s GCSE results was the significant increase in the number of A and A* grades awarded to our Year 11 boys. A record number of over 220 A and A* grades were achieved in the GCSE examinations (not including equivalent grades awarded in the non-GCSE/ vocational courses). A list of Year 11 students achieving the best results can be found on page 2 but special mention must go to Oliver Mulvey, who gained 9A* grades in Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, English Language, EngSome of our top achieving Year 11 boys on result’s day. lish Literature, Geography, History, Mathematics and Physics and an A grade in French, and Matthew Gowan and Alfie Duffy, who each achieved 9A or A* grades. Congratulations to those boys who, alongside many others from Hurstmere, are now settled in their A level courses. In total, 72 boys gained at least one A or A* in their results this year.
To find out what else we did during Activity Week see pages 6 and 7.

These GCSE results are especially pleasing as, following our very positive OFSTED Inspection in March this year, the single recommendation made in the report under the section ‘What does the school need to do to improve further’ was to improve the achievement of the most able students. With these results, it is clear that the boys of Hurstmere School have already made significant strides in this respect! Mr S Silvester – Senior Deputy Headteacher
