Give a Gift Toy Appeal - can you Christmas amazing? Readers difference by choosing an extra and donating it at one of
This is Families in Goole’s first year running Give a Gift and they are hoping it will be a great success.
Our Goole spoke to Kerry Kirkpatrick, Chair, Families in Goole, to find out more.
What made FIG take on the Give a Gift Toy Appeal?
Last Christmas we received several toy donations, which we distributed to families in our community. Once we’d seen the need for such an
important gesture, and how much of an impact it had, we decided this year to go for it on a larger scale, which will hopefully benefit many families and bring so much joy to children.
Why is Give a Gift important?
Give a Gift is such an important project as Christmas can be a tough time for a variety of reasons. We all need a little love and compassion in our lives. Many children also miss out on receiving Christmas gifts, which is heartbreaking to think about. We are helping to create core memories and

Who benefits from the appeal?
We are accepting referrals from schools and local service providers to ensure that donations are received by those who need it the most. A person’s circumstances can change in an instant and we’re here to make life a little easier, whether it be financial hardship, domestic violence, bereavement or any number of other situations.
Drop-off points are at: Junction, Goole Morrisons, Goole Goole Times, Goole Moorlands, Old Goole
These will be open for donations from 31st October onwards.
Families in Goole are also accepting monetary donations via their PayPal account: Give a Gift. The email for this is figgiveagift@gmail.com.
You really can make a difference!

FROM A POLICE PERSPECTIVE:
‘999 - What’s your emergency?’
This month, Goole policing team tells us more about the contact officers and dispatchers, who are the first point of contact for members of the public who are often at their most vulnerable and distressed at their point of picking up the phone and dialling 999
They are the voice you hear when you call us, the experts at obtaining information quickly and accurately.
They are the ones who get the response officers to the required location as quickly as possible, all while simultaneously conducting checks, operating the radios, and keeping their eye on the next incoming incident.
It takes a certain kind of person with a certain set of skills to do what our call handlers and dispatchers do. But what is it really like for them to be the first to hear the horror stories from members of their own community, people from all walks of life, in all different situations, in the most traumatic, upsetting and often horrendous moments of their lives?
Do you want to be the first point of contact for members of the public who are often at their most vulnerable and distressed at their point of picking up the phone and dialling 999?
Do you want to be the voice they hear when they call?
Could you be one of the experts obtaining information quickly and accurately?
Could you be the one who gets our response officers to the required location as quickly as possible?

This month, local property expert David Leake from The Property Experts talks to us about tax and what
that means for the housing market
Tax uncertainties are piling pressure on the housing market
New vendor instructions have turned negative for the first time since June 2024, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The latest RICS UK Residential Survey for August 2025 reveals a continued slowdown in housing market activity, with buyer demand, sales, and new listings all under pressure.
Surveyors and agents recorded a decline (-3%) in instructions, the first negative reading since June 2024, suggesting fewer fresh listings.
Buyer demand also fell further with a net balance of -17% reporting a drop.
Agreed sales slipped more sharply, with a net
balance of -24% (down from -17% last month). Similarly, the net balance for the market appraisals indicator slipped to -7%. This has put pressure on house prices.
The overall house price gauge dropped to -19%, extending the downward trend.
Looking ahead, survey participants remain cautious. Near-term expectations point to a continued softening in prices, while sales are forecast to remain flat. On a 12-month horizon, modest price growth is anticipated, but expectations have weakened compared with earlier in the year.
