NEW HEAD GIRL TEAM!
We are thrilled to announce our new Head Girl team for this year!
Congratulations to our Head Girl, Alice G, and our Deputy Head Girls, Tanvita K and Mo S.
BOARDING
The boarding community is once again buzzing with energy as the pupils return from their half-term break. The girls have come back full of enthusiasm, sharing stories of their adventures whether it was time spent with family, exploring new places, or simply catching up on some well-earned rest.
For our Year 13 boarders, the focus is shifting towards study leave, with the anticipation of exams growing closer. While their mocks might not be the highlight of their term, they are certainly looking forward to the independence and structure that study leave will bring in Magdalen House.
The next four weeks will be filled with excitement as we have a variety of Saturday trips planned. From shopping outings to thrilling escape rooms and unforgettable theatre performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. These trips provide a great opportunity for the girls to bond, unwind, and make lasting memories outside of the boarding house.
We are looking forward to a busy and enriching few weeks ahead!
SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING
It was wonderful to welcome so many Year 10 families to our Effingham Sixth Form Open Evening this week. They had the opportunity to explore ALevel options, meet teachers, and hear about our exciting new developments. The evening was a great opportunity for pupils to ask questions and start planning their future studies.
YEAR 8 TRIP TO OAKWOOD ACTIVITY CENTRE
Year 8 recently visited Oakwood Activity Centre, enjoying a fun-filled day of outdoor challenges and mountain boarding. From high ropes to
JEKYLL AND HYDE
Year 10 English pupils attended a fascinating lecture, exploring the psychology behind gave pupils valuable insights into the characters’ duality and the psychological themes within the text, helping to deepen their understanding for their GCSE studies.
YEAR 7 HISTORY TOURS
This week, Year 7 have been taking part in fascinating history tours around the school as part of their PSHE programme. It has been a wonderful opportunity for them to learn more about the rich history of the school and its former residents.
The tours have taken them to parts of the school they rarely, if ever, get to see, including a secret cellar hidden beneath the building!
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making these tours possible. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed exploring the school’s past, uncovering hidden stories, and gaining a deeper sense of connection to their surroundings. What a fantastic experience for all!

Bible Reading
A Reading from the Gospel of Luke
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Reflection
This week we are confronted with a challenging message from Jesus. To not just Treat other as we would like to be treated but to go a step further and love our enemies. This is certainly against our natural inclinations. Yet the divine nature is greater than our human nature. God loves each of us unconditionally and He looks at each and every one of us with eyes full of love. This week as we begin to prepare for Lent may we too be filled with the Divine Spirit and recognise God’s presence within us and within others. Now there’s a challenge. Lord Open the eyes of our hearts.
Prayer
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
