YEAR 10 DAY IN THE LIFE

Year 10 took part in a Sixth Form “Day in the Life” event this week, where they had the opportunity to experience first-hand the world of Sixth Form and A Levels, and get a taste of what life would be like not just at Effingham Sixth Form, but in post-16 education more broadly They had a lot of fun and also enjoyed getting to know each other and forming new friendships Students explored a range of subjects during the day, giving them a valuable insight into the options available to them. They also made the most of the sunny weather with a BBQ lunch and some relaxed garden games!

BOARDING NEWS

National Boarding Week!

This week, our boarders celebrated National Boarding Week with a fantastic line-up of activities designed to promote fun, friendship, and wellbeing Each day brought something new, from sweet treats to sporty challenges, and we could not be prouder of the energy and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved.

Monday – Fudge Making Fun

To kick off the week, we celebrated International Fudge Day in the sweetest way possible by making our own! The boarding kitchen was full of laughter and delicious smells as the girls made chocolate, Oreo, and Biscoff fudge.

Tuesday – Turf Team Games

Team spirit was the focus on Tuesday as the girls hit the turf for a series of sports games. The emphasis was on collaboration and communication, with everyone encouraged to support one another From relay races to mini-matches, it was a fantastic day of movement and teamwork.

Wednesday – Creative Tote Bags

Midweek brought out the girls’ artistic sides with a tote bag decorating session. Armed with fabric pens, paints, and plenty of inspiration, they created unique and expressive designs that showcased their individuality and creativity.

Thursday – Zen Colouring

Thursday was a moment to breathe and reset with a calming zen colouring session Gentle music and a peaceful atmosphere allowed the girls to relax, refocus, and enjoy some quiet, mindful time

Friday – Smoothie Creations

In honor of International Smoothie Day, the boarding kitchen turned into a smoothie lab! The girls experimented with frozen fruits, juices, and different types of milk to invent delicious (and sometimes adventurous!) new blends

Saturday – Sports, Pottery & Karaoke

Saturday was packed with excitement, offering a whirlwind of activities The day started with energetic sports, followed by a relaxing pottery painting session In the evening, the girls lit up the room with karaoke, singing their hearts out with friends!

To round off the week, the girls embraced a slower pace with a self-care day. They baked warm chocolate chip cookies and treated themselves to a pampering evening of face masks and mini massages. It was a comforting ending to an incredible week.

CCF NEWS

On Sunday, I went to Guildford Cathedral to represent St Teresa’s cadets at the Armed Forces Day service. It supports the work of Surrey Joint Services’ Charities and to recognise the vital contribution of the Armed Forces Myself and four other cadets from different units read out prayers at the altar There was another air cadet, one army cadet, one police cadet, and one sea cadet. I spoke to all of them, and they were all extremely friendly After the service all the cadets headed outside and formed up before marching alongside the RAF band that was there I have to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed attending this service and the amount of respect I have for all other armed forces I would absolutely recommend joining the cadets not only is it great fun but you get so many memorable experiences – I never dreamed I would get the chance to sit in a red arrow at our summer camp last year- CCF encourages you to develop responsibility, self discipline, and respect Well done to the Armed Forces!

Reading

A reading from St Paul’s Letter to the Galatians

You are, all of you, sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus

All baptised in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves in Christ, and there are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, but all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Merely by belonging to Christ you are the posterity of Abraham, the heirs he was promised

Reflection

A focus on the great feast of Corpus

On Sunday we as a church celebrated the great feast of Corpus Christi. This is a feast that celebrates the very real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist Here are some reflective words from Pope Leo XIV about Corpus Christi:

In saving the crowds from hunger, Jesus proclaims that he will save everyone from death. That is the mystery of faith, which we celebrate in the sacrament of the Eucharist For just as hunger is a sign of our radical needs in this life, so breaking bread is a sign of God’s gift of salvation.

Prayer

We continue to pray for peace in our word. Let us recite and echo the prayer of St Francis as we say together:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is error, the truth; where there is doubt, the faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

Amen
