HAVE A WONDERFUL HALF TERM!
BOARDING NEWS
As the holidays creep closer and exams take hold, the boarders have been trying to find the perfect work play balance. Whether it’s studying outside, taking study break walks or simply hanging out in Kingston on the weekend.
Last Friday the Summer Fate brought lots of smiles to the whole boarding house with cute animals, yummy food and fantas c weather.
Saturday evening was spent watching the much-an cipated Eurovision. The boarders gave a score out of 10 for all 26 acts, it was no surprise to see one of their highest scoring acts, Austria, come out on top.
The Year 11s and 13s have become studious as they prepare for upcoming exams. They have set an amazing example for the younger boarders with their dedica on to their academic achievements.
All of us in boarding hope that everyone has a safe and happy half term and that our boarders con nue to enjoy seeing the world.
SOLOISTS’ CONCERT
Well done to our talented pupils in Years 7–9 who took part in the Soloists’ Concert on Wednesday! It takes a great deal of courage to stand up and perform solo, especially in front of an audience – and you all rose to the challenge wonderfully. Each of you delivered confident and impressive performances, and we are incredibly proud of your achievements.
We look forward to hopefully hearing some of you again at T Fest on 18th June!
DR GUY SUTTON BRINGS
NEUROSCIENCE TO LIFE
We were delighted to welcome renowned neuroscientist Dr Guy Sutton on Monday for an inspiring day of talks and hands-on workshops. Pupils were given a unique opportunity to delve into the world of brain science, exploring its complexities through engaging sessions including the rare chance to take part in lamb brain dissections.
The day sparked curiosity and deepened understanding of neuroscience, bringing textbook learning vividly to life. In the evening, families from across the Trust gathered for a captivating seminar led by Dr Sutton, focusing on the teenage brain and its development. The thought-provoking talk offered valuable insights into adolescent behaviour, leaving us all with a greater appreciation for the science behind the teenage mind.
It was a truly enriching experience for all involved, and we extend our sincere thanks to Dr Sutton for sharing his expertise and passion.
FOST FAIR
A huge thank you to FOST for hosting such an incredible May Fair last Friday. It was a truly packed event, with so much to see and do from delicious food and fun games to a delightful petting zoo. It was a wonderful way to mark the end of this half term, and we are so grateful to all the stallholders and volunteers who helped make the event
DUKE OF EDINBURGH
FUNDRAISER
We are thrilled to share the remarkable achievement of three of our pupils Emilia E, Lily S and Alice R who have raised an impressive £1,150 for local charities Cherry Trees and the East Clandon parish Church.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, the girls organised and ran three bake sales and a plant sale at East Clandon Village Hall. Their hard work and dedication were truly inspiring, and it was lovely to see the local community come together in support!
A huge well done girls! You’ve made us all very proud.
INTERFORM DEBATE
The library was buzzing with energy yesterday afternoon as pupils took part in the much-anticipated Inter-form debate competition. Echoes of cheering and applause could be heard from across the hall, as teams went head-to-head in a spirited exchange of ideas and arguments.
It was fantastic to see so many pupils engaging with confidence, clarity and enthusiasm, showcasing their public speaking skills and quick thinking under pressure. The atmosphere was electric, with plenty of support from peers and staff alike.

Manor House and Cranmore Reception visit to STE
There was a lovely atmosphere at STE on Friday last week, when the children from Manor House and Cranmore Reception visited. The ponies all really enjoyed the grooming and the children were so gentle and careful in their handling. Through a ’hands on’ experience they learnt more about ponies and what is involved in their care.
Children’s Mental Health Week
Bobby was also lucky enough to get his own special trip over to the main school at St Teresa’s for a bit of pampering, as part of Mental Health Week. Many studies have shown that interaction with horses can help alleviate some of the symptoms of mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. At STE we always welcome visits from the students, staff and parents who would like a break in the day to stroke a pony and have a bit of time out. So do come and visit us!
BHS Changing Lives Through Horses
STE also offers the BHS programme, ‘Changing Lives Through Horses’. This BHS initiative has already helped over 2000 disengaged young people gain key life skills and tools to support their future careers. The sessions are designed to build skills that are linked with the National Curriculum but in a setting very different to a classroom. STE offer these sessions as care and handling of the horses, rather than as ridden sessions. Six core values are the focus for the sessions: Communication, Confidence, Relationships, Teamwork, Responsibility and Perseverance.
If you are interested in these sessions, please do get in touch.

In the Spotlight….Amber B
Amber was recently awarded ‘ Most Outstanding Equestrian Scholar’ and I caught up with her to find out a little bit more about how she started riding and to hear about her recent successes with her pony Lotus Star.
So when did you start riding?
I started riding when I was only two years old when I got an 11hh pony called Pippa to share with my sister. The first pony I could properly call my own was a 12hh Welsh palomino pony called Wiggy. He was the perfect pony to teach me how to ride.
Did you show any signs at that age of wanting to compete?
Yes! I did my first competition on Wiggy. I was led round the course of small jumps by my mum!
And then when did you first properly get into showjumping?
My mum used to Show Jump, so I have followed in her footsteps and we always jumped at home. I started taking it really seriously when I joined British Showjumping in 2022 and started competing in their classes.
So what do you enjoy most about competing?
What I really enjoy is the adrenaline rush after a good round. I get nervous before the round but the more nerves I get the happier and more excited I am after it goes well!
Are there any challenging aspects of your sport?
The most challenging thing about riding is when something goes wrong. Even if it’s just in a ride at home, the next day, you still have to get back on the same pony, they can’t remember the bad stuff from the previous ride, but you can.
So tell us a little more about Lotus Star, your current pony?
Lotus Star is the best pony ever! The number of times I mess up the stride to a jump or don’t quite get the approach line right…she just gets it right for us. She is also just the sweetest pony to handle and look after…she literally never puts a foot wrong!
You recently qualified for the Agria Horse of the Year Show in July at Hickstead which is a huge achievement…how did that feel?
Qualifying for Hickstead is the most amazing thing ever! Hickstead is one of the most well-known showgrounds in the UK and hosts the Hickstead Derby with the huge bank and hedges as part of the course. Being able to ride in that arena is probably the best thing I will ever achieve in my riding career! Not just anyone can ride in that arena!
That is really amazing Amber, especially as I know that between you and your sister Chloe, you have trained Lotus Star yourselves, taking her from a novice, inexperienced pony to a top track national finalist competing at the highest level. That Show really is a huge achievement, there will be top class international show jumpers including some of the GB Gold medal team there so very best of luck to you both!

A Reading from the Gospel of John
Jesus said:
‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me.
The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father.
The Father and I are one.’
Reflec on
Pope Leo XIV’s mo o: In Illo uno unum” (“In the one Christ we are one”), recalls the words of Saint Augus ne in a sermon, the Exposi on on Psalm 128, explaining that “in the one Christ we are one”. The image of the pierced heart on his Coat of Arms speaks of the heart that is pierced with God’s love. Pope Leo XIV has con nued to call for the Church to be united to Christ and to one another. In this way we will be a sign for the world.
Prayer
Faithful God, You guide us on the path of life and your goodness is our constant companion.
Be with our new Shepherd, Pope Leo XIV, in his service of the Church. Fill him with the power of your Spirit,
