Message from the Headmaster

Friday evening was a poignant moment for all those who attended the Year 11 leavers’ dinner. Pupils, parents and staff gathered as our community reflected on their journey at Cranmore and took the opportunity to appreciate all the wonderful achievements in the classrooms, auditorium and playing fields. Cannon Freed, our founder, would certainly be proud of the young men developed in the school who will help forge the future.

On Wednesday, our whole school photo was taken. I was very proud to see all the pupils and staff together, a fantastic portrayal of how Cranmore has evolved in recent years. Thursday marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day. It was an opportunity for our community to come together to honour and pay tribute to the Second World War generation from across the UK and the Commonwealth, through a series of assemblies, lessons and activities.

GCSE exams began in the Sports Hall this week as our pupils embark on their final exams. Thank you to everyone involved in the invigilation and preparation of the schedule, and to all parents and visitors for following the alternative arrangements while on site.

All the best to those pupils who are undertaking their silver Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition this weekend.

Year 11 Leavers’ Dinner

Whole School Photo

On Wednesday morning, pupils from Nursery to Year 11 assembled for our biannual whole school photo. We were blessed with fine weather. This was the first photograph with a Year 11 cohort and the timing was fitting as our Year 11 pupils started their study leave the following day.

Year 8 Mission Collaborat8

Year 8s from across the Trust were invited to take part in Mission Collaborat8 on Wednesday 30th April. Six mixed groups enjoyed an evening of teambuilding challenges, navigating their way around a series of physical and mental challenges. These included crossing 'rivers' in hula hoops, gaining control of the floating sticks, creating marble runs and turning the sheet challenge where teams had to stand on a tarpaulin and flip it over without anyone stepping off it. The evening culminated with some well-deserved pizza, whilst enjoying the evening sunshine.

Congratulations to our U16 cricket team who won their last ever Cranmore fixture with an impressive win over Hampton school. Also, well done to the selected GCSE PE pupils who represented the school superbly at their final moderation day. Our U13s have played cricket against Cranleigh and Whitgift, winning 7 of the 11 matches played. The U14s hosted Kingwood House and the U15As and Bs played against Reigate Grammar.

There have also been senior tennis matches played this week against Kingswood House. On Tuesday, 8 boys from Years 7 & 8 represented the school in the U13 Golf team at the Cranleigh Quad. It was a great afternoon for the boys who competed well and gained more valuable experience on the golf course. Also on Tuesday, 12 pupils represented the school at the district round of the England Athletics Event. There were several podium finishes and we are hopeful for a good representation at the next regional stage.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

Reading

A

reading

from the holy Gospel according to John

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you’, and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.’

‘As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.’

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

‘Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven; for those whose sins you retain, they are retained.’

Reflection

As I sit and write this week’s Chaplaincy Pages, the Conclave has just started. I am sure that as you read this a new Pope will have been chosen. Chosen by God and chosen for His Church. It is quite a job, quite a role, quite a vocation. May he be a person of peace and full of God’s Holy Spirit.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus

Help us to live in the joy of Easter and to carry this joy to others. We pray for our new Pope. May you guide and bless him in his role. May he reveal your face to us and strengthen us in the pilgrimage we are on.

Amen
