Well done to our Year 10 pupils who completed their practice Duke of Edinburgh Silver Expedition over the weekend, during which they coped with warm temperatures, thunderstorms overnight and challenging hiking through the countryside.
The GCSE examination timetable is now well underway and the Year 11 pupils are demonstrating focus, organisation and resilience as they approach each examination. Thank you to our community for respecting the ‘no entry’ and ‘silence’ signs and using alternative paths as and when required.
Our Wednesday Mass for our senior pupils was celebrated by Fr Charles. It was calm and reflective in order to reassure and support our pupils ahead of their summer assessments next week. On Thursday, Cranmore Live was an excellent opportunity for pupils to work with The Gesualdo Six, an award-winning British vocal ensemble comprising some of the UK’s finest consort singers and directed by Owain Park. Pupils participated in a music workshop in the afternoon and performed in a short concert in the auditorium that evening.
Next week pupils across the school will be completing their end of year assessments. These form part of monitoring our pupils’ progress and should be viewed as an opportunity to display their knowledge while keeping the outcomes in perspective during their educational journey.

Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice Expedition
On Friday 10th May, 17 Year 10 pupils travelled to Ashdown Forest in Kent for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice Expedition, which took place over 3 days. We met up with Richard, Gareth and Iain, their instructors for the weekend. The students then had a short briefing and set off on their 18km trek with their bags full of food. Their sporting fitness was very beneficial, and they walked at a confident pace. They arrived at camp with sore feet but still found the energy to play a ball game. Strawberries and blueberries kept them smiling as a treat after dinner. As darkness fell, they retreated into their tents. We were lucky with the weather; it remained dry for all of their walking time. There was a storm during Sunday night and many slept through it.
Well done, everyone, for an amazing new adventure; we are very proud of how resilient you are. We are looking forward to the qualifying expedition in the Black Mountains in a few weeks.

Year 11 Leavers’ Afternoon
Last Wednesday, our Year 11s reached an important milestone: their final day at Cranmore before entering Study Leave. As such, we wanted to mark the occasion and make it a special day for them. In the afternoon, we invited Year 11 parents to enjoy a cream tea and refreshments whilst watching their sons play cricket and compete in a rowing machine competition on the paddock. We then invited them into the auditorium to enjoy a surprise farewell video featuring their teachers sending messages of goodwill. The day culminated in what we hope will become a 'Cranmore Tradition' with each pupil ringing the athletics bell, to signify the end of an era, and the start of new things to come

Our U13s played cricket against Cranleigh last week and Broomwood on Wednesday. The U14s played away and won both matches against Downsend and the U15As and Bs played against Kings College Wimbledon.
There have also been senior tennis matches played this week against KCS and Broomwood.
On Monday, 6 pupils from Year 7 represented the school in the U13 Golf team against Parkside on our very own Crangusta.
On Tuesday, over 30 pupils represented the school at the District round of the English Schools Athletics Track and Field Cup. There were several podium finishes and we are hopeful for a good representation at the next regional stage.

‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.’
Reflection
We have a Pope. A Holy Father to guide and lead us on. God is always surprising us and so it was with the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th Supreme Pontif. I have been struck by his humility and grace. In the way in which he both looks back and looks forward. I am sure his experience as a missionary, an Augustinian and a Canon Lawyer will serve him well. May the Holy Spirit guide him in his role and protect him.
Prayer
Faithful God, You guide us on the path of life and your goodness is our constant companion.
Be with our new Shepherd, Pope Leo XIV, in his service of the Church. Fill him with the power of your Spirit, the peace of your presence and the compassion of Christ. Amen
