Message from the Head of Prep

Year 11 have all been occupied with GCSE exams this week and next week it will be the turn of Year 4 through to Year 10 to sit their own assessments. Please remember the importance of a good night’s rest and eating healthily over this period. The results will be shared after the half term break, but in the meantime, we wish them all well.

Year 1 loved their Multi Sports Experience Day at Manor House and Year 2 have continued their studies of World War 2, building model Anderson shelters. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 were treated to an amazing drama workshop this week and travelled to an imaginary jungle, becoming various animals along the way.

Mr Harris has been coordinating our Young Musician Heats and the quality has once again been incredibly impressive. The seeds of this were in evidence on Monday at the Lower Prep Instrumental Concert. Thanks must go to our visiting music teachers and the families of those involved in helping them to prepare their pieces. In a busy week for the Music Department, Thursday afternoon saw us host The Gesualdo Six vocal group for workshops and then an early evening performance for our annual Cranmore Live event. It was an incredible experience and really showcased the musical talents of our pupils.

Lower Prep Instrumental Concert

On Monday 12th May we enjoyed a performance by children in Years 1, 2 and 3 learning the piano, violin, guitar and cello. It was a fantastic event and we extend our thanks to the team of peripatetic music teachers who prepared the children so beautifully. Bravo to all involved!

If your child is interested in learning an instrument at school, please contact Jaine de Voil (musicadmin@cranmore.org).

Year 1 Multi Sports Experience Day

Year 1 attended a Multi Sports Experience Day at Manor House, where we had an enjoyable time participating in a variety of activities. The children jumped over hurdles, played football, learnt to throw a vortex, and played cricket. We extend our gratitude to Manor House for hosting us. It was a delightful afternoon spent with Year 1 at their school.

Year 2 News

The Year 2 children loved designing and decorating their own Anderson shelters using natural resources.

Reception to Year 2 were delighted to take part in a drama workshop this week called 'Rumble Jungle,' led by the company 'Perform'. The interactive workshop transported the children to the depths of the jungle, where they became various animals and went on exciting jungle adventures. The workshop sparked imagination and encouraged teamwork. The pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school as they participated well and listened beautifully.

U11s Cricket

On Friday 9th May our U11A 8 aside cricket team competed in the first round of the Geoff Richards Trophy, a prestigious competition in which the players bat in pairs and the innings is just eight overs. We played two matches against St Lawrence & St Georges Weybridge with Cranmore finishing the day with two convincing wins marching into the next round! Well done boys!

Regional ESSA Relays

On Saturday, pupils from Years 5 and 6 represented Cranmore at the regional round of the Primary English Schools Relay Event at Guildford Spectrum. Having qualified from the county round into both the Medley and Freestyle relays, on the night the team swam exceptionally well to qualify from the heats into the finals. The Medley team came 4th in the final, improving on their qualifying time, with the freestyle team also finishing in 4th, narrowly missing the bronze medal and improving their time by 3 seconds. An amazing effort from all the swimmers well done!

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

Reading

Habemus Papam We have a Pope

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.

‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.’

Reflection

We have a Pope. A Holy Father to guide and lead us on. God is always surprising us and so it was with the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th Supreme Pontif. I have been struck by his humility and grace. In the way in which he both looks back and looks forward. I am sure his experience as a missionary, an Augustinian and a Canon Lawyer will serve him well. May the Holy Spirit guide him in his role and protect him.

Prayer

Faithful God,

You guide us on the path of life and your goodness is our constant companion.

Be with our new Shepherd, Pope Leo XIV, in his service of the Church. Fill him with the power of your Spirit, the peace of your presence and the compassion of Christ. Amen
