Dear Parents The Cranmore Canter certainly lived up to expectations. I am very grateful to Mr Hodgson and the many helpers who made it such a great success.

There is still a busy programme of events in these final few days: the 6th Form Dinner this evening; Crancamp; Young Musician Grand Final; Charlie & The Chocolate Factory; our traditional netball and cricket fixtures for parents on Tuesday; and our special final assembly on Wednesday.

I very much look forward to seeing you at some of these key events.

Juniors A Message from Mrs Nicholson Dear Parents, As we approach the final day of the school year, I would like to thank you for all the good wishes I have received in advance of my relocation to Snowdonia, Wales this summer.

Working at Cranmore has been an absolute privilege and I have enjoyed every moment. Your children are wonderful and I am so proud of them all, particularly with regard to the progress they have made in all aspects of their learning, be it academically, on the sports field or musically.

Thank you for the support that you give to your child but also to the school. Some of my most memorable experiences at Cranmore are the trip to London Irish and the Cranmore Canter – events where the Cranmore family has enjoyed spending time together.

As part of the new Effingham Partnership, there are exciting times ahead for Cranmore School. I look forward to following its development and the successes of all your children by reading The Chronicle and the school website.

Role play: visiting the doctor’s surgery for a check up

UF filled their marble jar this week and chose a treat. They chose to make kites, go outside to test them and have a picnic!

UF used VR headsets to link with their work on Neil Armstrong for their Explorers topic.

On 1st and 2nd July, parents were able to come and watch their children performing in their ballet classes for the Primary and Grade 1 Ballet Come and See event.

Middle Prep went to West Wittering beach on 25th June. The children were so thrilled to experience a ‘holiday to the beach’ just like the Victorians they have been learning about.

Everyone had a truly wonderful day!

Seniors Form 4 Ramble Form 4 pupils completed a record distance of 12 miles during their ramble on Friday 28 th June. They topped Leith Hill in beautiful weather in the company of nine parents, Miss Fagan, Mrs Preedy, Mr Chapman, Mr Everitt and Mr Harris. A steady descent along the Greensand Way brought them to the climb to Pickett’s Lock where they enjoyed stunning views across to Westcott and Dorking while they ate their well-deserved packed lunches. The children made good time along the old sheep drovers’ track that runs along this section of the North Downs and arrived back in school at just before 4 p.m. My thanks go to the parents who accompanied us on the walk and to my colleagues. Together, their encouragement ensured that we kept up a good pace. Well done to Form 4 for completing the 12 miles – a lovely way to end the year together.

Form 3 Dental Hygiene Talk During their PSHE lesson, the Third Form had an informative talk by dentist Mr McLean on Dental Hygiene and the effect sugar can have on their teeth. The year group will hopefully remember to brush their teeth twice a day!

Form 3 Team Building Event It was great to see the pupils working together (in their new classes) and developing their ability to communicate and collaborate to solve a variety of problems.

Back in class, some Fourth Formers are focused upon designing board games, based upon their reading of Holes, to enable future pupils to reinforce their understanding of the book.

The Fifth Form enjoyed an Inspire Engineering Day on 26th June, during which they were able to ask engineers questions about their profession.

Ski Club had a Sky Walk session as an end-of-term treat.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday 8th July at 7 p.m. for the performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Sports Focus It has been a very busy period with both Athletics meets and our annual Sports Days. I have now seen first hand all the hard work that takes place behind the scenes and, of course, Mrs Attree is central in arranging these events. The organisation, attention to detail and delivery has been outstanding and I am very grateful to Mrs Attree for all her hard work.

Sports Days The Sports Days were very enjoyable occasions and the children seemed to have lots of fun. It was interesting to hear Mr Harris’s reflections (he did another superb job being our event announcer) and in particular his comment that he felt the Senior Sports Day was the most wellsupported and kind-spirited Sports Day that he could remember. The events were hotly contested by the Houses, but the eventual winners were Radford for the Seniors and Tylor for the Juniors.

Cricket Cricket matches have been carrying on with the U8’s playing against Donhead and St George’s, and the U10’s against Northcote Lodge and Thomas’ Clapham. Louis Wilkinson had an amazing over in the match on Saturday, managing to claim 5 wickets from 6 balls. A special mention to the 1st and 2nd XI that played against Trinity School on Saturday morning with the 1st team securing a fantastic victory. Max Towers batted for the duration of the innings, achieving a determined score of 73.

I would like to give my personal thanks to Mr Down, who has lead this cricket season superbly well. This is off the back of running a very busy hockey season. His cricket expertise and technical knowledge of the sport is outstanding, and both the Sports Department and the pupils are fortunate to have him at the school.

The Cranmore Canter The Cranmore Canter took place on Sunday with many people associated with Cranmore enjoying the morning. Over 250 ran in either the 1.5 km or 3 km race, with the longer run taking place across the fields of West Horsley Place. It was great to see many children and their families running alongside each other, sharing the experience and making memories together.

The event turned out to be a fantastic occasion which had a real sense of a community spirit.

Thank you to everyone for your support. Mr Mellstrom and Miss Moore were key parts of the team in making the event happen, both in the preparation stages pre-event and with the delivery on the day. I thank them both for all their help.

This is my last Chronicle Sports Report of the year and I would just like to say a personal thank you to all the sports staff in the department. They have made me feel very welcome and have been a joy to work alongside. It has been an honour and a privilege to lead such a hardworking and dedicated team. A special mention for Miss Moore who has done fantastically well in her first year, and to Mr Martin who is retiring after an illustrious career leading the Rowing.

Finally, to Mr Fish and Miss Minikin, who have been superb assets to the sports programme, and we wish them well for the future.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year at Cranmore and nurturing the children's sporting interests has been extremely fulfilling. I wish you all a great summer.

The Cranmore Canter on 30th June was a wonderful event, with over 250 people racing.

Senior Sports Day

Spirits were high on a gloriously sunny afternoon last Thursday for Senior Sports Day.

The Music Department are delighted to announce the release of their album. It will be sold at a stand outside of school during the last week of term. The whole school feature on Track 1 and every choir and instrumental ensemble have their own track.

Cash or cheques payable to ‘Cranmore School’ are both accepted.

Cranmore School Shop The School Shop will close at 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday 9th July and is open by appointment only in the summer holiday.

Parents of all new students starting in September should call our office to make an appointment at their earliest convenience.

For current children requiring top-up uniform or sports kit for September, the shop will open before the start of the new school year as follows: Wednesday 4th September – 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The shop may be busy on this day and appointments are not available: please just drop in.

For parents wishing to purchase top up uniform or sports kit and preferring to miss the last minute rush, we are happy to offer short ‘top-up’ appointments on several days in July and August. To schedule a short appointment please call our office on 020 8687 1502 at your earliest convenience.

The shop will re-open on Thursday 5th September at the usual time from 8 a.m. until 9.30 a.m. We will then also open on Friday 6th September from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. This is an additional opening time.

Normal term time opening hours will resume Monday 9th September.

Pre-Season Football Training Camp Dear Parents, SFCC will be running a Pre-Season Football Training Camp at Cranmore School on: Monday 2nd September Tuesday 3rd September Wednesday 4th September Time 9.30-3.00 p.m.

The course is open to pupils at Cranmore School only.

Students will be split into their appropriate year groups, working with A Licence Coaches, who work in Professional Clubs.

The cost of the course will be ÂŁ25 per day.

The day will be structured on individual fitness, with different technical sessions tailored to the needs of each child and game situations.

Students will need to bring water, snacks and packed lunch is required as well as astro boots / trainers and shin pads. Please ensure that your child is equipped with spare clothes.
