Dear Parents I do hope you had an enjoyable Easter holiday. I know that the pupils who participated in the ski trip and those who rowed in Ghent had a marvellous time.

We also hosted several sporting activities at Cranmore which were great fun too.

This edition has the recent Music and Drama exam results and I must congratulate these pupils for their most impressive attainments.

The cricket season is already underway as we hosted a match for a touring Dutch team on the first day of term.

There is a cricket programme tomorrow and also what is probably the largest “school trip” in the history of Cranmore—the final home game of the season for London Irish. For those who are unable to join us, the match will be broadcast live on Sky TV with our pupils as Guard of Honour.

Everyone welcome

Many of our pupils in Forms 2, 3 & 4 have participated in several rounds of The Primary Maths Challenge alongside 67,000 students across the country. At worldwide level, 2,375 high scoring students were invited to take part in a Bonus Round. 1,496 students won an award including six pupils from Cranmore School.

The Maths Department is extremely proud of their success.

Safety Notice The safety and well-being of your children is our paramount duty and we are committed to keeping all students, staff and guests safe. We appreciate that the area around school can be very busy during peak travelling times, but we need to work together to reduce congestion as much as possible.

The school’s drop-off/pick-up zone is purely to “Stop – Drop – Go”, and is for parents with children who are able to get themselves and all their belongings out of the car quickly. Stopping to get bags out of the boot, put jackets on, etc., slows the traffic down and adds to congestion.

Drivers should remain in their vehicles at all times in the drop-off/pick-up zone and on no account are cars to be left unattended in this area. If on the rare occasion there is no available parking, please drive around until you have found a parking space. Your child will be in our care until they have been collected.

Good luck to Miss Gallop running in Sunday’s London Marathon for charity

On Wednesday May 8th 2019 at 6pm, Worth-It will be leading a workshop for Cranmore Parents on ‘Developing resilience and wellbeing in children.'

Worth-It workshops for parents provide proactive early support that encourages the development of wellbeing in children and young people through the provision of ideas, tips and self-help strategies that parents can use in the home and as a family. The workshop will give parents valuable space to reflect on family life along with practical, evidence-based tools and strategies that can be easily integrated into home life to build resilience, wellbeing and positive mental health in their children.

What will the workshop cover?

Key elements participants will explore include: 

Defining wellbeing and resilience



The benefits of positive relationships for wellbeing and resilience



Developing emotional awareness and the benefits of positive emotions



Developing resilient thinking skills



Using a strengths-based approach to develop resilience



Helping your child develop their strengths to maximise their success

This approach to working with parents to support the mental health of children is underpinned

by Positive Psychology, mental health in school’s literature and advice from the Department of Health and Department for Education.

Sports Focus

The last week of the Easter term was wrapped up in style with a truly fantastic performance by the U13s rugby sevens squad at the Roslyn Park National 7s. Placed in a pool with teams from all over the country (and some local ones too), the side won every single match played which is an outstanding effort in this national festival. This Cranmore side had been improving with every festival leading up to this big event and had saved their best sevens rugby for this day. Well done to all the players involved!

The Easter holidays included the annual school ski trip to Italy, rowing at the Ghent International Regatta in Belgium, plus three fantastic camps held here at Cranmore. We now look forward to a busy packed Summer term of sport.

Please see details below from a Cranmore parent in relation to an amazing family cycling event: The Kelly’s Cycle on Sunday 19th May at Alice Holt, Farnham is perfect for the whole family, from kids to the seasoned cyclist! Three open road distances of 25, 54 & 74 miles head out through the glorious Surrey-Hants countryside whilst the 7 mile family ride takes in a short, pretty road section followed by scenic tracks through the Alice Holt forest.

This is a great day out and a great fundraiser for one of our school’s chosen charities, Challengers, in their 40th birthday year.

Monty L. singing in Nottingham where the National Youth Choir, National Youth Boys' Choir and special guests from the NYCGB county partnership programme Inspired Voices joined forces for the opening concert of their 2019 'Discovery' season at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall.

Ski Trip For the 7th year in row, the Cranmore party headed to Aosta Pila in the Italian Alps for our family ski holiday. Variety was the name of the game; we had perfect, Spring, snow conditions followed by heavy snowfall and wonderful powder which was deep and soft. For the last two days we enjoyed perfect pistes and unbroken sunshine. With skilled instructors, everyone made the most of the conditions and progressed very well, enjoying lots of fun on the slopes.

Our evenings were just as varied with ten pin bowling and tubing plus visits to a real Italian pizza restaurant and an ice cream shop with 25 different flavours.

A great week in the Alps!

Cranmore Rowers go International Our senior oarsmen headed to Belgium with Walton Rowing Club for their annual visit to Ghent International Regatta. The crews had the opportunity to train on a multi-lane international rowing course along with crews from other European countries and as far away as China. On race day, we competed in singles, doubles and quadruple sculls and enjoyed some exciting races.

We also found time to visit the European Space Agency where we built and launched rockets as well as trying to fly a mock-up of the Challenger space shuttle. We all agreed that moon walking and using the multi axis chair was a highlight. As we were based close to the WW1 battlefields we took the opportunity to visit the war cemeteries and attend the Last Post in Ypres.

A huge thanks to all the parents who joined us and helped in so many ways.
