SPORTS NEWS From Director of Sport Paul Hodgson April Sports News
The cricket season has started with huge excitement especially with fixtures against opposition schools resuming. At the end of our first week, we managed to complete 27 matches which is an outstanding effort by all, especially from our Head of Cricket, Mr Down. We had a Saturday morning training session with over 140 pupils in attendance, and optional after-school cricket nets which has involved over 150 players weekly.
The beginning of the summer term has also seen other sports taking place including tennis, athletics, and of course swimming has continued. Golf starts in the next couple of weeks for some year group PE rotations using our ‘Pitch & Putt’ 9-hole course on site. Extra-curricular clubs have also resumed, and these have included many different sports like rounders and Chelsea Football.

Our new outstanding Athletic Development Centre has been completed and it looks stunning. The area will be used by older pupils going forward, sports scholars and will be pivotal as GCSEs commence. Every pupil will benefit by focusing on their athletic development, especially with the sports department prioritising physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, and mental wellbeing.
The weekly Chelsea Pre-Development Centre started a few weeks ago at Cranmore with around 40 of the most talented local football players attending. Similarly, the Effingham Hockey Development Centre (EHDC) has been taking place on Wednesday evenings with ever more players attending weekly (docjuniorswhc@gmail.com). Finally, ESTA 1-to-1 and small group tennis lessons have been popular, taking place two evenings a week on our fantastic tennis courts (esta@effinghamschools.org). Mr Hodgson
