ECP is an Extended Curriculum Programme for South African students with potential entering the Higher Educational Institutions (HEI’s), but who struggle with the volume of educational materials that need to be covered in their first year of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This is particularly true for the first year Mathematics and Science orientated subjects. For this reason, the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering (DEECE) is offering the first year of the Diploma in Engineering Technology in Electrical and Computer Engineering over a two-year period.

This approach slows the pace, and allows time for adapting all-important fundamental engineering, mathematical and physics concepts required to be successful in the fields of engineering. It further allows students to adjust and realise their potential to perform and improve their success rate. The ECP allows students to have a smoother start in the qualification, ensuring that they are provided with all the support to better prepare them for higher education in their chosen field of study. This opens the doors to further studies via possible higher level qualifications.

The department utilises an Admission Point Score (APS) as selection criteria once your minimum admission requirements are satisfied. You also have to score a minimum of 27 on the APS for the ECP.

Through the extensive support provided in the Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) of Diploma in Engineering Technology in Electrical Engineering and Diploma in Engineering Technology in Computer Engineering, become an expert and able to take on tasks like modelling, design, use numerous engineering software for simulation and implementation, testing, calibration, verification, maintaining computer hardware, software, and network-related systems in all industries.
