The Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) is for prospective South African Marine Engineering students who meet the minimum admission requirements, but may fall short on the admission point score (APS) for the mainstream programme.

The department utilises an Admission Point Score (APS) as selection criteria once your minimum admission requirements are satisfied. You have to score a minimum of 26–29 for the ECP; or 23–25 for possible waitlist.
Additional Admission Requirements
• South Africa Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) eyesight test and medical examination for those who are pursuing this qualification with the aim of working on board ocean going vessels.
• Applicants who are pursing this qualification for the purpose of land-based employment only, may consider the SAMSA requirements as an option.
• Applicants are to consult the SAMSA website www.samsa.org.za for a list of Approved Medical Practitioners.
