George “John” Moody George “John” Moody, 80, a resident of Gooding, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, December 30, 2011 at Bennett Hills Care Center in Gooding. John was born on December 12, 1931 in Gooding to John and Leota Moody. He grew up and attended school in the one room Thorne Creek School through 8th grade and then to Shoshone and Gooding for High School. John served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in March of 1955. He met and married Dorothy Jones of Twin Falls shortly thereafter. To this union, three children were born; John, Ted and Julie. John worked on the Thorne Creek Ranch with his father for 34 years. He and Dorothy raised their children for 20 years while living 5 miles north of Gooding after leaving his father’s ranch. He loved to hunt and fish and did so until his health would no longer allow. John is survived by his wife Dorothy Moody; son John Moody, both of Gooding; daughter Julie Owings, of Black Canyon City, Arizona; 4 sisters, Shirley Sabala, Leona Holland, Jana Tracy, all of Gooding, and Norma Burnum of Canby, Oregon; and 1 brother, Albert Moody of Boise. John is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Ted Moody. A memorial dinner will be held at 1 p.m. on Thur. January 5, 2012 at the Gooding Basque Center in Gooding. Military honors will follow at 3:00 pm. Condolences may be shared at www.demarayfuneralservice.com.

Dell Elwin Taylor Dell Elwin Taylor, 90, a resident of Gooding, Idaho, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the Lincoln County Care Center in Shoshone. Dell was born on November 5, 1921 in Henefer, Utah, the son of James A. And Violet Brewer Taylor. He was raised and educated in Henefer, Utah and went to Coleville, Utah through high school. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in 1949 and his Master’s in 1951 from Utah State University. Dell married Ora Gayle McGarry on May 19, 1950 in Spanish Fork, Utah. Dell is survived by: his wife of 61 years, Gayle Taylor of Gooding; two sons, Scott (Mel) Taylor of Jerome, Idaho, Larry (Tami) Taylor of Meridian, Idaho; one daughter, Rhosan (Rick) Ames of Boise, Idaho; his sister, Nila Hamblin of Roy, Utah; four grandchildren, Courtney Harrison, James Taylor, Kelsea Taylor and Chris Ames; two great grandchildren, Taylor Harrison and Payton Harrison. He was preceded in death by: his parents, James A. And Violet; five brothers, Oneida, Garold, Alton, Lynn and Don; and one sister, Roene Baton. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. Services will conclude at the chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Dell’s name to the Lincoln County Care Center in Shoshone. Condolences may be shared at www.demarayfuneralservice.com.

Wilber Lee “Sonny” Floyd Wilber Lee “Sonny” Floyd, 79, a resident of Gooding, was born in Garden City Kansas January 23, 1932, and passed away peacefully December 21, 2011 in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the fourth son and sixth child of Robert Edward and Sylvia Cleo Wallis Floyd. (Sonny was born at home before his Dad returned from town with the doctor. It was the middle of the Great Depression and their farm was in the middle of the Dust Bowl.) Bank failure, three years of no crops due to the drought, and a four year old daughter with dust pneumonia, were strong incentives to seek greener pastures. Sonny was only two years old when the Floyd family left Kansas. They endured many hardships until they arrived in Gooding, Idaho in the spring of 1936. The Floyd family moved to a farm near Bliss in 1942. Sonny graduated Bliss High School in 1950. He married Helen Sue Leach Cox. They had one son, Donald Benjamin born April 4, 1959. They later divorced. Sonny then married Karma Porter Oliverson. Until her death in March 2000, Karma could be found at his side through all of his endeavors including farming and ranching in southern Idaho and drilling deep water wells in Arizona and Nevada. Sonny had a strong work ethic and loved horses, horseback riding and the ranching “cowboy” life-style. Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Karma; his parents; brothers, Chet Floyd, Ben Floyd, Willard Floyd, and Bobby Floyd; sisters, Claris Myers and Olive June “Ollie” Craven; and nephews Michael Alan Floyd, Ray Floyd, and Richard “Dick” Floyd. Sonny is survived by his only child, Dr. Donald B. Floyd, of Everett, Washington; grandchildren, Scott Floyd and Kendall Floyd; special friend and companion Yvonne Szajgecki, of Jerome; younger sister Claudia Michalke, of Colville, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Demaray Funeral Service – Gooding Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Gooding.
