Protecting Idaho’s Wildlife since 1899
In 1899, the Idaho Legislature established the Idaho Department of Fish and Game to preserve, protect, perpetuate, and manage Idaho's fish, wildlife and habitat on behalf of the public, and Fish and Game officials invite people to share in celebration of that mutual effort.
Through the invaluable support of sportspeople who purchase fishing, hunting and trapping licenses that fund our efforts—the department has met the evolving challenges to manage and conserve Idaho’s wildlife.
“As we celebrate 125 years of conservation, we reflect on the many accomplishments of the past while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead,” Fish and Game Director Jim Fredericks said. “Through the dedication of passionate staff, countless public and private partnerships, and science-based management, together, we can continue to conserve Idaho’s fish and wildlife.”
The celebration will include public events throughout the state where people can meet with Fish and Game staff to commemorate the anniversary.
Mark the Date: Magic Valley Region (Region 4) May 18th, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Twin Falls City Park.

April Water Supply Outlook Report
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Idaho has released the April Water Supply Outlook Report.
Winter is coming to an end and the verdict is in. Northern Idaho has one of its lowest snowpacks on record and southern Idaho has one of its biggest snowpacks for a second year in a row. March was tumultuous; significant snowfall brought many basins closer to normal snowpack conditions, but these storms were punctuated by periods of warm, spring weather and widespread snowmelt.
Streamflow, snowpack, and precipitation data for each basin, as well as replacements for the daily, ready-to-print maps of SWE and total water year precipitation are available on the Idaho Snow Survey Website.
“In March, reservoir operators began walking the tightrope between mitigating downstream flood risks and maximizing stored water in preparation for the irrigation season,” said Erin Whorton, Water Supply Specialist for NRCS Idaho. “Water supply looks sufficient this season, especially for users with ample storage rights. As usual, natural flow priorities depend on the unique combination of weather, irrigation demand and snowpack runoff.”
For information on specific basins, streams, and reservoirs, please view the full report online at April Water Supply Outlook Report.

Time to Get your Dog Tags
It's Spring and time to renew dog licences (tags) in most cities. The cost of $10 to $20 is a small price to pay to make sure you get your best friend back in the event of escape. Without a tag, cities have no way of knowing how to return a dog to their rightful owner. Take a moment to stop by your city office and help make life easier and safer for our furry fiends.

Bariactic Bed!
April is... National Poetry Month!
If you have a bit of poetry in you, and you want to be brave, share it with our readers.
by Bryce Chaney
Just the other night, I had me a fright.
I laid down to get some rest, and my heart bout jumped right out of my chest.
The next thing I knew, I was in the ER.
They started poking and probing and touching my scar, And using big words, like I use cement.
Why, I had no idea what all those words meant.
Then this big nurse broke out the syringe. He said I needed some blood.
I told him to stop, he was making me cringe. "Now be cool" I said to him, "Bud!"
The next thing I knew, I was in room 17, and I saw this weird looking bed. The strangest one I've ever seen! Bariactic is what the nurse said.
I laid on the bed and started to sink, the bed just swallowed me whole.
I was scared as could be and started to think... I could vanish and no one would know.
I rolled around till it spit me out. I was happy to be alive.
Then with a yell and a shout, I heard someone say, I'm your nurse and you will survive. The nurse said, time to check you B.P. I said what's a B.P. I didn't know I had one. Now just relax and give me your arm. Taking your B.P. will do you no harm.
Then said she, you need an I.V. I told her to back off, you're not touching me.
I tried to run, but to my dread, I couldn't get out of the Bariactic Bed.
The Doc walked in and said with a grin, you have nothing to worry about. You have Diabetes and your heart is in a spin. But I got this, it will all work out. A little Pee here, a little Pee there, and some blood thinner will do the trick. So don't you worry, no not at all. By they way, do you feel sick?
By the next morning I was hungry you know, and the nurse said my breakfast was here. I couldn't sit up cuz the bed had my toe, and the call light was stuck in my ear. The Bariactic Bed had my arm in its rail, and my body was bent in a "U".
I was all tangled up like a monkey's long tail. And the nurse said, "Sucks to be you."
A 4 o'clock in the morning, when most are sound asleep, This nurse creeps in with a needle in hand, without even making a peep. Five minutes later they give me some pills, and the nurse just gives me a wink. I look out the window with disbelief. Outside, it's not even pink. Now don't get me wrong, I was treated just fine.
Cept this one nurse who slapped me when I got out of line.
I said are you sure you know what you are doing?
She said if I don't, you're the one getting the screwing.
Everyone here, nurses and doctors alike, they worked and made me not dead. They are an awesome team, I love them to death.
But... I hate that Bariactic Bed.

Nancy Jean Montgomery
Nancy Jean (Sackett) Montgomery passed quietly from this life on March 30, 2024 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, with her son Kevin and his wife by her side.
Nancy was born to Orville and Ruth (DeMoss) Sackett in Filer, Idaho, on September 26, 1940. She grew up on the family farm west of Filer. She graduated from Filer High School in 1958. After high school, Nancy went to nursing school in Boise, graduating in 1961. On September 16, 1961 she married Paul Montgomery. Together they had two sons, Kevin and Jeff.
A few years later, they moved the family to California where Nancy continued her career as an RN. In 1973 the family moved back to Idaho, where she went to work for the Twin Falls Clinic and Hospital for many years. She later worked for a few other facilities prior to retiring, always caring for her patients as a dedicated nurse. She and Paul later divorced.
After retirement, Nancy spent several summers traveling with a group of friends with her RV and camping in many beautiful places. One of her favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska. She loved the beauty that she was able to experience. She loved that she was able to go to Alaska with her son Jeff to see the work he was doing on his place there. She also enjoyed helping people by driving them to appointments whenever she was called on. For many years she was active in the Buhl Bible Church until March of 2020, when most churches went to online participation due to health concerns.
She loved spending time with her family, playing board games, watching Boise State football, playing Bingo with Dona, watching old westerns and game shows. She loved her ice cream, popcorn, smartees, and BBQ ribs. She had been heard to say potatoes served in any way should not be served without gravy. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents - Orville and Ruth Sackett; brothers - Larry and OD Sackett; sister - Gloria Schiffler, and grandson - Michael Montgomery.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law - Barbara and Pat Sackett; children - Kevin (Shirley) Montgomery of Gooding, ID and Jeff Montgomery of Kennewick, WA; Grandchildren - Daniel and Eric Montgomery of Gooding ID, Jeanine Montgomery of Nampa, ID, Mitchel (Alicia) Montgomery of Twin Falls, ID and Mike (Shady) Montgomery of Richland, WA; 2 greatgrandchildren - Thomas and Nehemiah and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Ashley Manor in Kimberly for their loving care of Nancy while she was there, the Emergency Staff, and the caring nurses at St. Luke’s Magic Valley.
A Celebration of Life to honor Nancy will be announced at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos can be shared with the family by following the obituary link at www.demarayfuneralservice.com

Myrtle Bartholomew
On April 3, 2024, our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home surrounded by her children.
Myrtle “Myrt” Bartholomew, 98, was born on August 18, 1925 in Ashton, Idaho, the daughter of Charles and Louise Brown. Myrt was raised in Gooding and married Les Bartholomew on August 16, 1945 in Elko, Nevada. Les was her lifelong dancing partner and when on the dance floor people would stop and watch them dance.
Myrt never forgot a joke (shady at times) or a good story. Everyone loved to listen and have a good laugh. She was still reciting them at age 98 bringing smiles to us all.
Myrt loved to make levi patch work quilts and over the years all family members received one. She loved spending every fall making jellies and dish cloths to give away to family and friends at Christmas time.
Myrt and Les lived in Fairfield for many years where he worked for the State Highway Department, and Myrt sold Avon and delivered it throughout the prairie. They moved to Hailey where Les was killed while working for the State Highway Department. Myrt continued working in Hailey until she retired and moved back to her childhood home of Gooding where family was close by.
She is preceded in death by her husband Les, her parents, and eight older siblings; five brothers - Owen Brown (Alberta), Clifford Brown, Don Brown (Jackie), Bill Brown (Pearl), and Glenn Brown (Jean); three sisters - Leona Graves (Harvey), Mildred Patterson (Manning) and Lois Meserole (Frank).

Patty and Linda were wonderful care takers and lived with Myrt to allow her to stay in her home.
A very special thank you to the staff of Hospice Visions, especially Connie, “T”, and Tiffany for their loving care and compassion.
