I think it’s important for us to have a swiftwater rescue team in this area,” said Sgt Kelby Cornett of the Gooding County Sheriff’s Office.

If you have questions or desire to make a donation to this important organization, contact Levi Diehl at 208-320-0132. The team is volunteer based, and every donation helps keep people safe.

Closed Burning Season Begins May 10th

Idaho Burn Permits are required annually between May 10 and October 20. Obtaining a burn permit ensures your burn is in compliance with Idaho law (Idaho Code 38-115).

Who needs a permit: Individuals living outside city limits anywhere in Idaho, who plan to burn for any reason including yard waste and crop residue must obtain a burn permit. Recreational campfires do NOT require a burn permit.

How to get a Burn Permit: Visit the self-service website https://burnpermits.idaho.gov/. Permits are available seven days a week and are immediately issued and valid. A permit may also be issued by your local IDL office. Burn Permits are free and good for 10 days. You must have your permit with you when burning. No matter where you want to burn and what you plan to burn, our system will either issue you the burn permit you need on the spot or tell you which entity to contact for alternate or additional permits. Using burnpermits.idaho.gov also connects you to tips for safe burning practices.

Why get a Burn Permit: Obtaining a burn permit lets fire managers know where permitted

201 S Beverly Street in Shoshone Attendees will choose between six possible candidates: Joe Biden Dean Phillips Marianne Williamson Jason Palmer David Olscamp Armando Perez-Serrato

Correction on Camas Bond

This year's Primary Election is in just two weeks, May 21st. Early voting began this week or you can request an absentee ballot to make your choices at home.

Two weeks ago, it was reported that the Camas School Bond which was paid off in FY 2023 was about $3.20 per $1000 of property value, and the new bond would be slightly less (about $3.07 per $1000). Those amounts were not accurate because they included all school district levies.

The amount being requested for the new bond is $229 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value based on current conditions. If the bond is approved, it would bring the total levy rate for the school district to just over $300 per $100,000 (or $3.00 per $1000). Bonds require a 2/3 supermajority to pass.

While these numbers may be confusing, it is important to note that Camas County taxpayers will be paying a tax rate (for the school district) roughly equal to or slightly less than what taxpayer were paying under the old bond.

Musher Girls Take the Top Trophy

at Sawtooth Conference Track & Field

Kenley Olsen, Gigi Weber, Christine Finder and Hannah Swenson shocked the field as a foursome, absolutely dominating in winning the Sawtooth Conference championship on a wintery Spring Wednesday on the first day of May.

Nobody who has seen these athletes in action over the years is surprised that they can run, but no one expected 1 2 3 sweeps in the 800 and the metric mile. Sophomore Kenley Olsen had a spectacular day, winning the trophy for most points scored in placing first in the 100 and 200 (scoring a personal record in each); second in the 400; and second in the triple jump (another pr). Scoring right on Kenley’s heels was Junior Gigi Weber, who notched two first place finishes as well in the 800 and metric mile, second in the high jump, and third in the triple jump. The grittiest performance of the day went to Senior Christine Finder, who raced over 3 3/4 miles in four events. She won first in the 3200 meters, second in the 800, fifth in the 400, and third in the metric mile. Sophomore Hannah Swenson boosted the team scoring with a second place finish in both the 3200 meter and the metric mile races, third in the 800, and fourth in the triple jump.

Way to go Musher Girl Power!

Electronic Poll Books in Camas County

The Camas County Clerk's office announced the implementation of Electronic Poll Books (e-poll books), which will be available on the May 21st Primary Election. These devices will streamline the check-in process at polling locations and provide voters with a smoother voting experience. The new electronic poll books feature touch-screen interfaces that are designed to allow poll workers to scan voter’s drivers' licenses and expedite the identification and same-day registration process at polling stations. This technology is connected to the Idaho Voter Registration System, allowing for quicker and more accurate voter check-ins, reducing wait times, and improving election security. Electronic poll books will be used by 36 Idaho counties for the May Primary Election.

Key features of the electronic poll books include: Fast and Accurate Check-Ins: Voters can easily check-in by scanning their Idaho driver's license or Idaho ID card.

Streamlined Voter Registration: Voters can use the e-poll books to register in the system, eliminating the need for paper forms.

Real-Time Voting Information: The Idaho Voter Registration System provides immediate updates of voter check-ins and absentee returns across the county to prevent duplicate voting.

Improved Turnout Tracking: The devices will provide instant data on voter turnout throughout Election Day, enabling better monitoring and response.

The introduction of electronic poll books aligns with Camas County Clerk's commitment to modernizing election processes while maintaining the highest standards of security and integrity. For more information or inquiries, please contact the Clerk's office at 208-764-2242. The Poll Books are set up in training mode and you are welcome and encouraged to come in to the Courthouse at 501 Soldier Road, Fairfield, Idaho and try it out before Election Day.

The County Clerk's office encourages all eligible voters in Camas to participate in in the May 21st Primary Election and experience the convenience of the new electronic poll books firsthand.
