Dangerous fugitive arrested in Rojales National Police Officers have successfully apprehended a highly dangerous fugitive in Rojales, bringing an end to a pursuit that spanned multiple European countries. The individual in question had two European Arrest Warrants issued against him, originating from Belgium and the Netherlands. Spanish authorities had
also issued four national searches for his capture, according to sources from the police. The investigation, which commenced at the start of 2022, initially focused on the province of Malaga. However, after a series of inquiries, law enforcement agents determined that the fugitive was not present in that area. Subsequently,
following the General Assembly of the European Network of Active Fugitive Search Teams (Enfast) held in Spain last October, coordination efforts between officials from Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands were intensified, leading to increased operational information exchange. The suspect had displayed a pattern of frequently changing residences across various regions in Spain, employing these moves as tactics to elude justice and sustain his illicit activities. Authorities believed that after each criminal act, the fugitive returned to his family environment, prompting efforts to pinpoint his family’s location. Through relentless information gathering, law enforcement agents successfully identified that the fugitive was residing in a municipality near Torrevieja, ultimately tracing him to a luxurious urbanisation in Rojales, where he lived with his family and was subsequently arrested. European authorities considered him highly
violent and dangerous. The European Arrest Warrant issued by Dutch authorities pertained to drug trafficking crimes, while the warrant from Belgian authorities encompassed charges of drug trafficking, kidnapping, criminal injuries, and property crimes. The detained individual was allegedly associated with a criminal organization operating throughout Europe, linked to the notorious N’Drangheta mafia. Notably, he had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison in 2016 for kidnapping in Belgium, further establishing his dangerous profile due to his involvement with firearms. In addition to the European Arrest Warrants, the fugitive faced four national searches issued by Spanish authorities related to crimes involving drug trafficking and document falsification. The successful collaboration between European nations highlights the effectiveness of international cooperation in bringing criminals to justice, safeguarding communities from
individuals with a history of violent and organised criminal activities.
