Solomon M. Coles High School celebrates 100th anniversary

On Sept. 12, Solomon M. Coles marked a milestone 100 years in the making with a celebration filled with history, pride and community spirit. Alumni, staff, students and friends of the campus gathered to honor the school’s rich legacy and lasting impact on generations of learners.

The evening included heartfelt reunions as guests reconnected with former classmates and educators, sharing memories of their time at the campus. Attendees also had the opportunity to view memorabilia, as well as a new mural.

The City of Corpus Christi joined in the celebration as Mayor Paulette Guajardo presented a proclamation recognizing the school’s centennial anniversary and its contributions to the community.

District associate teacher recognized as ATPE Associate Educator of the Year Award

After years of serving in childcare, as a paraprofessional, and in intervention support, Ashlee Galvan stepped into her own classroom through CCISD’s Associate Teacher program. Her dedication and perseverance were honored in 2025 when she was named the ATPE Charles Pickitt Associate Educator of the Year.

The Associate Teacher program addresses teacher shortages by allowing individuals with bachelor’s degrees to take fulltime teaching roles while working toward certification. With mentorship at its core, the program ensures that associate teachers have the support and training needed to succeed in the classroom. Recruitment and retention coordinator Diana Ybarra, a longtime ATPE member, stresses that the goal is not just to recruit but also to retain teachers by providing a clear pathway to long-term success. Galvan’s story was recently highlighted in ATPE News. Read the full article online.
