Teachers across the district are keeping the learning going during the summer months.

Camp Invention Recharge was led by teachers and staff at Crockett, Oak Park, Shaw, Travis, Zavala and Windsor Park Elementary Schools. Project Invention was lead by teachers and staff at Cunningham Middle School at South Park.

The camps were designed to teach elementary and middle school students about STEM using hands-on activities. Teachers helped students assemble solarpowered crickets, taught students how velocity can help launch ducks and how to invent and pitch their own inventions. #SuCCessISD

Four Admin Building employees prepare to retire Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez celebrated four Admin Building CCISD employees for their years of dedication, as they prepare to retire.

Understanding ambiguous loss

Martha Fair, Fine Arts Specialist for Art, Theatre Speech and Debate, joined CCISD in 2005 and has a total of 17 years with the district. Before becoming a fine arts specialist, Martha was the Theatre Director at Baker Middle School.

Orlando Salazar, Director of Student Support Services, joined CCISD in 2011 and has a total of 12 years with the district. He previously taught at Lamar Elementary School, he was the project manager for Metro Schools of Design and Director for Innovative Programs.

Dr. Rafael Silva, Executive Director for School Leadership, joined CCISD in 1987 and has a total of 34 years with the district. During his time with the district, he was also a teacher, assistant principal and principal.

Dr. Kimberly Story, Director for Advanced Academics, joined CCISD in 2017.

She has 31 years of experience in education, four of which she spent with CCISD. Her career in education include Casa Linda Elementary School and later a dean at Veterans Memorial High School.

Summer COVID-19 vaccine clinics for students, families CCISD has partnered with The Children’s Center of Corpus Christi to offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to students and families ages 12 and up.

Vaccines will be given by appointment only and must be scheduled by the Friday before the Monday vaccine clinic.

CORPUS CHRISTI INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

We have all experienced some kind of loss related to the pandemic.

Many have lost loved ones, and many have experienced what is referred to as ambiguous loss – the loss of something without closure, explanation or understanding.

Examples include job loss, changes in relationships due to social distancing, changes in ability due to health issues, significant changes in routine, loss of perceived freedom and loss of the opportunity to participate in milestone events.

As we reflect on our own journey, we need to acknowledge the losses and understand that we likely have experienced some grief.

Grief can look very different among different people, but some common elements include sadness, irritability, forgetfulness, distractibility, changes in appetite and changes in sleep.

It’s very important to honor the grief process of others and avoid setting expectations for their “healing.”

If we want to be supportive, the best approach is to listen. If we are working on our own grief process, be sure to look for things that bring you joy, accept help when needed and set boundaries when necessary.
