Cooper Carry has 65 years of experience designing buildings in every imaginable configuration, though Florida holds a special place in our firm’s rich history as the site of our first mixed-use projects, Boca Center and Mizner Park, both in Boca Raton. We know the key role design plays in creating vibrant areas that contribute to a city’s sense of place.
Our leaders are advocates and authorities for their specialties, empowered by decades of expertise to make decisions that prioritize placemaking, civic space, and the greater good of communities, tenants, residents, and visitors.
Successful placemaking has a lot more to do with careful planning of adjacent uses, visibility of those uses, and careful attention to access to all of those uses, rather than highly stylistic approaches to the design. Our approach to the combination of uses and users is both quantitative and qualitative – science and art. The science is about understanding the uses that have the most market
support and the highest return or implied land value —a highest and best use approach. The art is about understanding the impact of the experiential uses and how these drive the market and create a sense of place.
Florida offers a rich blend of typography, from natural oceans and waterways to lush greenery and wild ecologies. Urban centers like Orlando, Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale provide a bustling city experience that beckons new residents to the area. We are attuned to differences in each city, creating solutions that adapt to changes in the environment. We consider common paths, how visitors will enter or leave the space, and how that space interacts with the drama of the street. Great care must be given to the entire public realm to make certain it is seamless, interesting, and safe. Our mixed-use ecosystem creates this synergy in our builds and ensures they meet the needs of our clients and users.
