Channel 6.1 Celebration at the Station This patriotic program honors our heroes with music as the Kansas City Symphony recognizes the 100th anniversaries of the WWI armistice, Leonard Bernstein’s birth and Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America”. July 4 at 8:30 p.m. Inventing America Making a Nation brings our Founding Fathers back to life in a TV talk show filmed before a live audience featuring three delegates to the Second Continental Congress discussing the lead-up to the Declaration of Independence. Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting Host Sara Gallegos is joined by Karla Herrin to show you how to make your own applique wall hanging. Sundays at 2 p.m. Highpointers Two college-age women attempting to climb the highest peaks in 50 states meet their match in Wyoming. This film introduces the little known sport of “highpointing”. July 6 at noon Hillary Sir Edmund Hillary is best known as the first man to conquer Mount Everest in 1953. This dramatic series covers Sir Edmund’s greatest achievements and his personal and inspiring life story. Mondays at noon, Fridays at 11 a.m. Himalaya Connection Explore the dramatic and far-reaching effects of the Indian and Asian tectonic plates crashing below the Himalayas and their impact on the region’s geology, climate and people. July 6 at 1 p.m. Legends of Airpower Profiles of some of the the men who made America’s air power the most respected in the world are profiled in this award-winning series. The series includes interviews with such legends as Chuck Yeager, John Glenn, and James Doolittle. Spanning the first century of flight, this series relates the life and times of these heroes. Saturdays at 4:30 p.m. Ted Williams: American Masters Discover the many sides of baseball great Ted Williams, his complex relationships with his family, press and fans and his feelings about his Mexican-American background. July 23 at 8 p.m.

We have plenty of fun activities and projects that will keep them engaged and happy. Your children can craft, cook and travel with lifestyle experts, Katie Brown, P. Allen Smith and Colleen Kelly. July 14 & July 15 Summer Bites Summer sun and great food go hand in hand. Chefs Joanne Weir, Jacques Pepin and Annabel Langbein’s recipes feature the best of summer’s bounty: fruits, vegetables and seafood. These dishes are quick and easy to prepare and are bursting with seasonal flavors. July 21 & July 22 Just Peachy Sweet peaches are a favorite fruit of summer. Whether they are a part of the main course or the dessert, enjoy them in a variety of recipes prepared by, Martha Stewart, Jacques Pepin, Vivian Howard and Nick Stellino. You can expect a juicy peach of a marathon! July 28 & July 29 Beauty and the Beach There’s nothing better than a gorgeous beach in an exotic locale. Take a dip in these blue lagoons across the globe: Mozambique, Africa; Sydney, Australia; Tahiti and St. Vincent’s amidst an unforgettable landscape.
