Philemon noted, too, that his crews will not need to bring in any extra fill material because they already have enough on hand to provide a proper balance of crushed rock and soil. Acompactor is pulverizing the rock before it is moved where needed by the company’s dozers.

“My daughter’s heart was in this work, and we had planned for her to take over one day and grow the company,” said Chris Philemon.

Located on White Store Road, south of Wingate, the site is to become a huge brooder farm for turkeys, where six small houses will be constructed that will raise chicks up to five weeks old before they are then moved to bigger facili-

Among the machines the company is running to shape the future turkey farm are three Volvo A25G articulated trucks, a pair of Volvo EC380EL excavators and one Volvo A30G truck that, on this project, specifically pulls a K-Tec 1228 pan across the property.

Philemon explained that he chooses to employ so many young adults to work on site in tribute to his late daughter.

“We have 12 employees now, and although we are a small company, the folks here are all heart,” he said. “We have a crew that is all-female, with one young woman, Leslie Helms, running a trackhoe as well as Kelley Mullis and Kelby Tarlton driving the trucks with her, and Hannah Thomas working the scraper. In both the male and female crews, most of them are around 19- to 22-years old.”

“After her passing, all these kids came to me wanting to be like her, and that’s why they are working here today. As I said, this group has heart and spirit. We work from Virginia to Georgia and go 12-14 hours each day, sometimes 14 days straight, and none of them say one word of complaint.

years old, she got her contractor’s license for North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia,” he said, quietly. “She also became one of the best trackhoe operators I had ever seen. My daughter’s heart was in this work, and we had planned for her to take over one day and grow the company.

Chris Philemon was drawn to the construction business before he even graduated from high school when he began operating a loader for a contractor who did light grading and built homes, he said.

“Shelly Martin is the man that I first worked for,” Philemon said. “He taught me about ethics, and he is serious about the work. He always wants everything to be perfect the first time and I learned that from him.”

“Eventually, we grew to the point where we were doing subdivisions and now, we are working on projects like solar farms, and we just finished grading work at the big FedEx terminal in Monroe,” he said.

In all, Philemon said that his people are moving about 68,000 to 70,000 cu. yds. of dirt at the White Store Road property.

“We are all one family, which is hard to find. For that, I am a very blessed man with my operators.”

ties.“The pad in front of us is 770 feet by 850 feet, and at 14 acres, this is the smallest one we will do,” he said. “It is big, but we did a similar project down near Pageland, S.C., that was 24 acres of pads.”

On the day he was being interviewed, in early August, he described his latest project as smoothing land and building the pads for a few hundred poultry houses owned by Circle S Ranch in Monroe.

Philemon Grading & Trucking’s latest project is smoothing land and building the pads for a few hundred poultry houses owned by Circle S Ranch in Monroe.

Prior to Philemon’s crews arriving at the latest job site, it had been a soybean field that they stripped and flattened out.

New Housing for Turkeys

The field also was a bit rockier than Philemon expected it to be, he said, but his crews have been able to cut through it, and he is fully confident the job will be done safely and efficiently.“We have roughly about 10 feet of cut up here on this hill where we are standing,” he said. “Our deepest fill is approximately 13 feet in front of the houses down below.”

When Chris Philemon began his grading business 30 years ago this summer, it was because, as a young man, he discovered he had a love for running equipment like graders, loaders and other machines used for clearing and shaping properties. Then,as he got older, started a family, and built Philemon Grading & Trucking in Wingate, N.C., the passion he had for his work was inherited by his daughter, Krista — making the company’s success, for a time, that much sweeter for Chris.

• Contractors should wrap up the West Volunteer Boulevard Streetscape project in the fall of 2023. Its construction removes on-street parking and replaces old stormwater infrastructure with new landscaping, lighting, and plaza areas.

• More classroom spaces also are expected to be built on current parking areas.

• The Joe Johnson-John Ward Pedestrian Mall is being constructed on what was Andy Holt Avenue. The new gathering area removes some parking in the center of campus but

The most visible and popular upgrades are being done to Neyland Stadium, meant to enhance seating and create the infrastructure for a club area at the Vols’ football venue in the future. Additionally, there also are renovations of a video board toward the south endzone, with a new video board on the opposite side.

And while there is a greater demand for purchased housing, virtually all the units in that part of Raleigh will be for rent. Currently, the average rental price for a downtown apartment is $1,905, and the average size is 812 sq. ft.

• A plan to expand the Haslam College of Business with a new building at UT offering flexible classroom spaces and collaboration areas is yet another idea still on the drawing board.

a net 35 new storefront businesses have opened in the area since 2021, according to DRA.

Next year will see the completion of two more building efforts on the UT campus.

• Crews currently are building a 19,000-sq.-ft. addition to the university’s College of Veterinary Medicine. It will be used as a new teaching and learning center, giving veterinary medicine students a simulation and teaching laboratory space. The project also is to include a new entrance to the Veterinary Medicine Library. It will replace a surface parking lot, according to WBIR-TV.

• The renovations at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, home of the Vols’baseball team. Officials told WBIR-TV that project will include more seating and club spaces as well as new spaces for the team, and infrastructure improvements.

The pandemic shuttered scores of businesses and offices — a situation that showed many office and government workers that they can do their jobs at home and made it more difficult for employers to get them to come back.

• The university also will start designing two new residence halls to provide a total of 1,300 new beds.

DRA noted in its report that nearly 20 companies have announced moves or expansions into the downtown since 2021, making up about 1,500 new jobs.

Those and several other Neyland improvements are planned to continue through the fall of 2026, according to an Aug. 22 report from Knoxville’s WBIR-TV news station.

UT-Knoxville Plans Several New Projects Over Next FewYears

Soon, UT will begin the design process for:

New Construction Booming in Downtown Raleigh, N.C.

town area, according to DRA, but many no longer spend most of their work week in those offices.

Stormwater Management Projects Coming in 2023

• The university also has a new theater planned, with an expected opening set for late 2024. The new Jenny Boyd Carousel Theatre is likely to be 17,000-sq.-ft. in size and will replace the current Carousel Theatre. Experimental and flexible theatre space is being designed into the venue’s plans, with back-of-house support spaces.

Three of the projects are slated to be completed this fall:

The amount of new construction in downtown Raleigh, N.C., is still substantial with the number of apartments alone scheduled to double despite lingering fallout from the COVID pandemic, the Raleigh News & Observer reported Sept.

Project Concepts Under Discussion

More than 21,000 people live within a mile of Raleigh’s downtown core, with that population expected to top 30,000 in five DRAyears.reported that construction or site preparation has started on more than 3,500 apartments and condominiums in the downtown area, with an added 5,000 more housing units planned or proposed.

Students, faculty and Volunteers’ sports fans all need to be alert for construction on the campus at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (UT). Work will stay busy for quite a while longer as several building projects are set to continue this year — and the years to come.

Trio of Projects to Finish in 2022

There is still demand for office space, the alliance explained, with 1.7 million sq. ft. under construction or planned.Inaddition,

Engineers Well Into Design of Other Projects

replaces those spaces with what UT officials call an “active pedestrian zone,” featuring new bike lanes and seating options.•Anew venue for UT Creamery, an ice cream parlor on campus, is also set to open in the next few months at the site of the former Visitors Center on Neyland Drive. It will be run by students, helping them learn modern ice cream production methods as well as manufacturing, logistics, retail business, marketing and sales.

posed structure is expected to include a green roof space for events and research, capable of holding stormwater. Its completion is set to be in the spring of 2024, the Knoxville TV station reported.

Although the stadium project is highly visible, it is not the only important construction effort on the UT campus. Several others are under way to improve academic buildings and create more housing for students.

• In the spring, Stormwater Park is slated to open. While it will include water features and recreation areas, it also is designed to have a new water management system that will redirect heavy rain into water retention ponds. In doing so, engineers allow the rainfall to be absorbed into the ground instead of flowing into storm drains. The park’s location will be where the old Morrill Hall Dorm once stood.

Several other notable projects at the University of Tennessee are still in their design phase, such as:

• UT also wants to open the Croley Nursing Building in the fall of 2025. The 117,000 sq. ft. facility will offer students and instructors new classrooms, simulation labs, research labs, offices, another campus green roof, and a healing garden. The structure will replace the university’s existing College of Nursing building.

There1. is roughly $3.3 billion worth of planned construction throughout downtown and nearly $1.5 billion in ongoing construction or site preparation, according to the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) during its annual event Aug. 31 to present its findings.

That would roughly double the nearly 8,000 housing units in the area now. Of those, DRA noted that just 279 of the future units are considered affordable housing, though the city is seeking proposals for comparable homes to be constructed near Moore Square.

Downtown Raleigh Municipal Services District (MSD), which is a defined special assessment area of the capital city in which property owners contribute toward enhanced services. The agency noted on its website that, “Downtown Raleigh has experienced exceptional growth over the past decade and is poised for more growth coming out of the pandemic. There is currently $6.7 billion in the development pipeline of projects planned, in site preparation, under construction or completed since 2015.”

Rhodes entered the Kansas weekend having notched six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes, in addition to 224 laps led.

“Kubota is proud to sponsor this winning team and Ben, the reigning champion and a leader of the pack. We’re on your side and ready to join you in the winner’s circle.”

“As Kubota celebrates our 50th anniversary in the U.S., it is fitting for us to partner with ThorSport Racing in this U.S.born sport, because we both started from humble beginnings and worked our way up the rankings. And, just like Ben Rhodes, we are now fiercely focused on the road ahead,” said Todd Stucke, Kubota Tractor Corporation senior vice president of marketing, product support and special projects.

Kubota, ThorSport Partner for NASCAR Truck Series Events

ThorSport Racing has partnered with Kubota Tractor Corporation to serve as the official tractor company of ThorSport Racing in multiple NASCAR Truck Series events, starting in Kansas with Ben Rhodes’ No. 99 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.

“One aspect of this sport that I really enjoy is getting to know new partners and the excitement that comes with it,” said Rhodes. “Kubota is going to be really fun to represent in these final four races of the 2022 season. I think the vibrant orange paint scheme perfectly illustrates their culture and outlook. Together, I hope we can really close out this season strong and accomplish back-to-back championships.”

Kubota is known for its versatility, reliability and durability across its complete lineup of equipment that is built and refined with the customer in mind — from sub-compact, compact and utility tractors, hay tools, and construction equipment, to residential lawn and garden, commercial turf equipment, and utility vehicles. Racing fans, much like Kubota customers, take pride in the things that move them, whether it’s on the track or moving earth on their property.

“At Kubota, we continuously innovate to better meet the needs of our customers — it’s at the core of what we do, it drives our way of thinking and the way we do business,” said Stucke. “We continue to help our customers be more productive and we work together to achieve their goals, just like a supportive pit crew, which is why this is such an important partnership and natural extension of our brand.”

In discussions of strategic planning, Ring Power Crane representatives touted the strength of the company’s investment in factory training of branch technicians.“Wehave two master technicians based out of this facility. There are three master technicians based inAtlanta and three in Concord. We could immediately have six highly skilled technicians working on one crane at the drop of a hat in the Aiken service territory. Having the means to put our personnel wherever needed most is a huge benefit of being the size operation that we are.”

Land Line, a trucking News source, reported recently that owners of the historic Tennessean Travel Stop unveiled plans for a new, 25,000-sq.-ft. facility in mid-August. The new building will be constructed on the site of the earlier truck stop, located off Interstate 65 at Exit 22 in Cornersville, which welcomed travelers for 50 years.

• An ice cream shop with donuts and coffee.

But, with some building materials in short supply, Land Line reported Sachs said he “has his fingers crossed” that the builders will be able to meet that target date.

This is a total full-service Ring Power Crane branch facility. Sales, service, parts and rentals of Manitowoc, National Crane, Grove, Manitex, Mantis and Broderson are available at this location, as well as field service for machines that require onsite service.

A welcoming office structure is at the heart of the “branch campus” of the new Ring Power Crane location in Aiken, S.C.

Joe Mangum, Aiken branch and service manager, echoed the company’s enthusiasm.

The main service building can accommodate rather large cranes with ease.

In addition to the hard work of Mangum, key staffers that help spearhead this new growth opportunity included: Ray Atkeson, Ring Power Crane parts manager; Clay Levins, Ring Power Crane operations coordinator; Kevin Robbins, Ring Power, executive vice president; Mike Beauregard, senior vice president and general manager of Ring Power Crane and Utility division; and Shane McLaughlin, vice president/facilities manager.

The relocation of this branch begun in early summer and is now completed. The company is now working on additional facility enhancements including new overhead cranes to accommodate crane repair and adding to the inventories of parts and machines, which are coming in daily.

“We understand how important the Tennessean has been to the state … proudly serving national over-the-road truckers, travelers, and especially our incredibly loyal Cornersville community,” Gregory Sachs, owner of the Tennessean Travel Stop, said in a statement.

Construction is under way to rebuild a Tennessee truck stop and travel destination that has been shut down for more than a year due to a fire that destroyed the popular site.

• A full-service cocktail bar.

Truck Drivers to Be Treated to Relaxing Lounge

Power Crane, “opening this location was part of a strategic plan to be more centralized in the state and to have more exposure and better access to our customer base. Rather than being at the south end of our territory in the coastal area of the state, we’re now more centrally located to our customers in South Carolina and to our other branch locations in Concord, N.C., and Atlanta, Ga., and we’re now just off of Interstate 20. It’s simply a strategic positioning for our future.”

Ring Power Crane is excited to be in the Aiken area and able to supply jobs and support for the community. “We are in the process of working to be a part of the local Chamber of Commerce and to be a part of the growth of this town,” the company said.

 CEG

The Ring Power Utility Equipment division will soon be co-located at this facility, which will provide more products and services than the previous facility, and the staffing is already in growth mode at Aiken.

“My excitement is seeing the growth of the facility,” he said. “This is a much bigger facility than the previous one. We now have the ability to better serve the customers of the state of South Carolina and eastern Georgia. I moved to this area to be a part of this and helped with the branch relocation and I’m now enjoying my opportunity to grow the company and serve the customers here.”

• Outdoor seating, including a rooftop deck next to the second-floor bar.

Ring Power Crane recently opened a branch location in Aiken, S.C. The “branch campus” consists of five buildings situated on a 5-acre parcel of land and was selected for its geographic positioning in the state of South Carolina.

“I’m extremely proud to unveil the new Tennessean Travel Stop. Our dedicated team has been working diligently throughout this past year to design and plan a more expansiveInfacility.”July2021, the former building was leveled by a grease fire that started in one of the restaurants. According to Sachs, one of the old fueling station’s canopies was the only part of the truck stop to survive the fire.

• A quick-service deli with pizza, wings, and sandwiches.

Ring Power Crane Opens 5-Acre Branch Campus at New Location inAiken, S.C.

• A dog park.

Prior to becoming a Ring Power Crane branch, the property selected housed the operations of a major local construction company. The facilities and acreage represent about a 50 percent increase in size over the previous South Carolina

Impetus, the New Orleans-based construction group company tasked with building the new travel stop, said in its own statement that the project will take approximately one year to finish and open for business.

Among the travel complex’s new amenities are:

A spokesperson of the Tennessean Truck Stop told Land Line that the new construction project plans to include nearly 100 truck parking spaces. In addition to 60 striped spaces for 18-wheelers, an added 38 to 40 spaces in an unstriped gravel area also will be available for long-haul drivers.

Page 16 • September 21, 2022 • www.constructionequipmentguide.com • CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT GUIDE

During a groundbreaking ceremony in August, Sachs said the new facility also will feature something special for truck drivers.“[For] our truckers, who are our haul heroes because they haul loads and make all of our lives better — we’re adding a big, very comfortable lounge for them,” he explained.

The Tennessean Truck Stop’s owners promise that the new facility will be “bigger and better” than the former truck stop. While some of the old favorites will be returning, like the Tennessean BBQ restaurant and buffets, many new features will modernize the travel center.

Joe Mangum will head up the day-to-day operations of the new Aiken, S.C., branch and were instrumental in the move.

Ring Power Crane, the crane division of Ring Power, was established in St. Augustine, Fla., more than 20 years ago and has grown to seven locations throughout the southeast. The new Aiken branch is located at 1096 Toolebeck Road, Aiken, S.C., 29803, on the web at www.ringpowercrane.com.

“Itsuccessful.hasnotalways been easy, and there have been times over the years when I have wondered how we were going to pay our bills, but the Lord has been good to me, and we have been very lucky to work for great people.”

Volvo machines coupled with the elevated level of customer and product support he has received from Ascendum has eliminated at least two worries Philemon has had over the past few of years of family tragedy and economic- and pandemic-related chaos.

Chris Philemon characterized each of the machines he employs as critical to getting the job done correctly at the site.He began his assessment of each piece of equipment by praising the K-Tec 1228 scraper, a pan that sports a load capacity of 30 cu. yds., much more than the trucks he has that haul only approximately 20 yds. of materials.

“Ascendum has really been excellent for us,” he said. “The main reason that I even went to them in the first place was because of Mark Arcilesi [an account manager at the company] and his boss, Kristin Parker. I have known them for a while and dealing with them is extremely easy. If they tell you something, their word is as good as any contract. When they have given me delivery dates on equipment, they

“So far, we have only had a couple issues with the trucks, but each time they had someone down here working on them the same day,” he said. “Just yesterday, one of our people forgot to put the fuel cap on a trackhoe, and after I called Mark, he brought me a new one at once.”

Overall, Philemon considers himself to be a fortunate man to have such hardworking and energetic young people around him that share his desire to keep the grading company

That amount of production is primarily due to the highperformance equipment he brought to the job site.

Each of these machines were obtained from Ascendum Machinery, headquartered in Charlotte, only about 30 mi. to the northwest of Philemon Grading’s base of operations.

“That [Volvo EC380EL excavator] is one we have had

Philemon, Ascendum Prove to Be Great Match

“As we average roughly 10,000 to 15,000 yards per day, it will take us less than a week to get this job done and finely graded,” he said about the brooder farm.

Volvo, K-Tec Prove Great Match for Philemon’s Crew

The Volvo articulated trucks and excavators handled much of the down-and-dirty work at the turkey farm site, especially when it came time to cut and dig.

“You can drive across that bumpy field while you’re having something to drink and not spill a drop because the drive is so smooth,” Philemon said.

(L-R) are Keelyn Mullis, Leslie Helms, Hannah Thomas and Chris Philemon, all of Philemon Grading & Trucking.

Volvos Can Dig, Haul From Difficult Places

CREW from page 8

“That pull pan is so efficient and will haul two trucks filled with material by itself — something that would take a trackhoe a whole day to move,” he said. “Plus, the cost savings it gives us is a lot when you figure the fuel on three pieces of equipment versus only one. The pan pays for itself just on that.”That kind of efficiency is important to Philemon because of the largest amount of dirt and rocks his crews are loading on both the White Store Road project, and will move at its next job, he said, where the pads will be approximately 200,000 yds.

No matter, Philemon explained, as he and his young crewmembers enjoy the big projects, like the 450,000-cu.yd. FedEx job they did earlier.

Among the machines the company is running to shape the future turkey farm are three Volvo A25G articulated trucks, a pair of Volvo EC380EL excavators, and one Volvo A30G truck that, on this project, specifically pulls a K-Tec 1228 pan across the property.

“Well, because of this rocky material we are working in here, [the pan operator is] getting overburden off the top,” Philemon said, “but once down in the rocky surface, the pan won’t be able to cut it, so we need the trackhoes and trucks to get them out. In the right applications, using them is the best and quickest way to go.

Chris Philemon praises his K-Tec 1228 scraper, a pan that sports a load capacity of 30 cu. yds., much more than the trucks he has that haul only approximately 20 yds. of materials.

“Krista passed away three years ago, but when she was 21 years old, she got her contractor’s license for North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia,” said Chris Philemon. “She also became one of the best trackhoe operators I had ever seen.”

always come through when they say.”

He noted that other things about the Volvo trucks he enjoyed were their ease of use and the fluidity of their ride.

just a few months. We’ll soon be getting GPS put on it, and when that happens, the machine can do final grades with the other two backhoes we have,” he said, adding that Philemon Grading’s other excavators, including all its dozers, already have GPS systems on them.

Philemon added that when he has needed Ascendum to service his machines after a breakdown, the dealership also has been quick to respond.

Short-term factors such as the lingering pandemic, ongoing supply-chain issues and persistent labor shortages were chief among AEM’s list of challenges.

But the association believes workforce will remain a prevalent issue for equipment manufacturers for the foreseeable future.

Early this year, the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) weighed in on the construction equipment market’s expansion, saying that a number of challenges could present obstacles.

Supply-chain problems plaguing ag and construction equipment manufacturers also remain a major

“Six of the world’s top 10 equipment manufacturers have identified the state as the new Silicon Valley of equipment manufacturing,” said the heavy equipment industry attorney. “Georgia’s business-friendly climate and a host of strong structural advantages have provided a strong boost to manufacturing and the heavy equipment industry in Georgiaparticular.”provides significant tax breaks for manufacturers and job creators, augmented by a generous state R&D tax credit.

The U.S. construction equipment market specifically is experiencing a high compound annual growth rate (CAGR) because of increased building activities for infrastructure development.

“In our material handling segment, labor tightness and inflation are driving the adoption of more advanced and automated solutions while also driving the market to record levels,” said Greenawalt.

“Demand for both new and used equipment continues to be at high levels and sales backlogs remain at record levels,” said Ryan Greenawalt, chairman and CEO. “Our organic physical rental fleet utilization and rates on rental equipment continue to improve and tightness of supply continues to buy inventory values across all asset classes.”He attributed the rosy picture to “industry tailwinds” from the passing of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, saying it is driving further demand for construction machinery.

“Further bolstering the mining industry is increased demand for precious metals and traditional commodities, especially in Latin America, Asia and Africa,” Waite said in an article in Engineering News Record. “In construction, demand for equipment and parts continues to skyrocket as countries around the world begin a new push to update roads, bridges and other infrastructure.”

he believes, “the industry is poised to continue thriving for the foreseeable future, driven by demand in multiple, only partly overlapping, industries, including mining, construction, energy and agriculture. States that seek to attract more heavy industry should follow Georgia’s businessfriendly example.”

pressing in the United States, where roads, bridges, rail and other infrastructure projects are finally starting to receive significant government funding.

He attributes the explosion to economic and geopolitical developments.

“That will directly benefit the heavy equipment industry, but it also will see logistical issues mount and supply shortages become more acute,” said Waite.

“The last recession we experienced ended the longest period of economic expansion in the United States, and that recession lasted from February 2020 to April 2020,” said Benjamin Duyck, AEM director of market intelligence.“Twomonths, in traditional economic terms, can’t even be accurately described as a recession,” he said. “However, this economic disruption has impacted us all greatly, and we are still dealing with the aftereffects

He predicts the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Russia will drive up energy costs in the United States and elsewhere.

At the same time, factories could not expand easily due to bottlenecks in the chain

The responses to AEM quarterly member surveys for the past two years have been positive in regard to how quickly they expect to recover to pre-COVID-19 levels.

What the Future Holds

The state also offers a skilled labor force, low rates of unionization, a top-tier university and technical college system, a superb manufacturing infrastructure and a worldclass transportation system, he said.

“But the data for this last quarter is moving again in the other direction, largely due to the headwinds we’re facing with inflation, workforce issues and supply chain disruptions,” said Duyck.

today — labor shortages, supply chain problems and higher interest rates.”

Waite also predicts regional consolidation specifically in the southeastern United States, where the state of Georgia is gaining a reputation as global hub for innovation in construction equipment.

Market’s Cautious Optimism

And though demand in some aspects of the economy dropped, the decrease was not evenly spread over all industries and all workers, AEM noted.

Multiple Factors at Play

Because of this considerable investment, the infrastructure segment of the construction equipment market holds the biggest market share, said BlueWeave.

Despite global issues including inflation, rising interest rates and the war in Ukraine, the heavy equipment sector is among indus-

“While people still continued to spend money on homes and consumer purchases, interest rates remained low, and the U.S. experienced an expansion in monetary supply,” said the association. “Furthermore, workers and businesses were supported by the government. corporate optimism expressed by other construction companies across the United States.

That is the conclusion of a study conducted by India-based market research firm BlueWeave Consulting.

Though inflation is a little lower, it has risen gradually, with a 9.7 percent increase in the last quarter of 2021.

But, he said, upgrades are especially

In fact, “explosive” is how one industry legal expert terms the global growth in demand for heavy machinery.

In response, the supply chain has adjusted production downward to meet expected lowerPlus, demand.there’sthe fact that shipping companies cut schedules, expecting a drop in demand for shipments.

An uptick in machinery demand in the mining sector is driven by demand for lithium, graphene, cobalt, nickel and other components for batteries, electric vehicles and clean technologies.

“The U.S. construction market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 6 percent during the forecast period of 2022-2028,” researchers reported. “The growing demand for construction equipment in this region is fueled by increased construction activities for infrastructural development as a result of government and private investment.”

Chief among industries seeing a significant uptick in machinery demand is the mining sector, said attorney James. R. Waite.

Waite said the industry has successfully leveraged global economic, infrastructure and geopolitical conditions to considerable advantage.“Asaresult,”

The Sandvik CH440 is suitable for a high-capacity secondary application or a high-reduction tertiary or pebble-crushing application, and it can be matched to changes in production through the selection of crushing chambers and an eccentric throw. This flexibility means that it’s suitable for a wide range of applications, according to the manufacturer.

Kleemann’s mobile cone crusher MOBICONE MCO 90(i) EVO2 and the mobile impact crusher MOBIREX MR 110(i) EVO2 can now be fitted with a double-deck post screening unit as an option.

Born in the USA, Sandvik’s UK373 wheeled crusher offers a complete processing solution.

Sandvik Rental Services is entering the U.S. market with a structured rental offering that meets the needs of customers that are looking for short-term off-balance solution to fill production gaps or expand their operations but want to minimize the risk.

The large screening surface makes effective screening possible especially for grain sizes below 7/8 in. The discharge height of the fine grain conveyor is designed for a maximum stockpile volume. Oversize grain can be processed in a closed material circuit via a return conveyor.

For more information, visit www.wirtgen-group.com.

The company is starting by offering Sandvik DX700 tracked drills and an offering that sees machines rented from as little as just one month. Sandvik’s fleet of all-new machines are supported by manufacturer service contracts and genuine parts for the duration of the rental agreement, while Sandvik rock tools also are available. The company is launching its service in initially five states: Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, North and South Carolina.

option. They provide better material quality because lightweight material (e.g. wood and plastic) contamination is removed from the material, according to the manufacturer. The air flow can be controlled precisely depending on the material, reducing manual sorting work.

The wind sifter can only be used in conjunction with the post screening unit. With the double-deck post screening unit, a second wind sifter can be used as an option for cleaning the medium grain.

The MOBICONE MCO 90(i) EVO2 and MOBIREX MR 110(i) EVO2 can now be equipped with an optional double-deck post screening unit.

Cone crushers are mainly used in hard stone, impact crushers in soft to medium-hard stone and in recycling. A very high product quality is expected from both plant types. Due to the new optional double-deck post screening unit, it is now also possible, with a single machine — without the use of an additional screening plant — to produce two classified final grain sizes.

This unit was equipped with the Sandvik CH440 and a three deck 6 by 20 ft. heavy duty screen with high G force, to ensure outstanding efficiency, high productivity and reliability.

The UK373 benefits from user friendly features such as hydraulically adjustable settings, and a choice of different crushing chambers and throws. This enables fine tuning to match your required specification and maximum output.

More than 80 barges and two dozen cranes dot the watery landscape, as construction crews continue work on Florida’s $865 million Howard Frankland Bridge (HFB) replacement project. The new bridge is being built to the north of the current southbound bridge and will consist of eight lanes that include four general purpose lanes, two northbound express lanes, two southbound express lanes and a bicycle/pedestrian path. The existing southbound bridge will be converted to become northbound I-275, and the existing northbound I-275 bridge will be removed as part of the multi-year effort.

The aging HFB provides a crucial link between Pinellas and Hillsborough counties and serves as the central bridge spanning Old Tampa Bay from Clearwater/St. Petersburg to Tampa. The structure is the most traveled of the Bay Area bridges, carrying an average of 179,5000 vehicles per day across Tampa Bay. It is one of three bridges connecting Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, the others being the Gandy Bridge and the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

This team and our media partners do an excellent job making sure those changes are seamless, and that motorists are notified ahead of Thetime.”biggest challenges tied to the project involve foundation installation, due to the highly variable subsurface geology.“The lengths of the piles are almost impossible to predict. For example, we have had a pile in a footing achieve capacity at 72 feet, and the pile next to it, six feet away, did not achieve capacity until 220 feet.”

“In the future, there will be shifts in traffic patterns to

“Currently, the project is anticipated to finish in late 2025,” said Jeffries. “However, there are still many potential impacts to the project schedule outside of the contractor’s control, such as hurricane seasons and material shortages.”

There are more than 1,700 girders and 2.7 million sq. ft. of bridge deck to construct. Currently, causeway embankment construction is taking place, along with foundation installation, substructure construction, superstructure girder erection and roadway construction on the Pinellas Causeway.Regarding

The project is 60 percent complete as far as foundation installation and 50 percent complete with substructure construction. Permanent causeway bulkheads are virtually finished. Completions of each bridge component, such as foundations, substructure and superstructure, are considered major milestones for the JV.

Jeffries noted that, to date, the project has had little impact on the motoring public.

According to FDOT, the new bridge design will improve incident management in emergency response situations, addressing safety concerns raised by the community during the outreach process, including hurricane evacuations.

Jeffries noted that weather and safety are the primary concerns.“The project has a robust severe weather management plan that’s implemented for tropical storms and hurricanes to not only protect our assets, but the existing bridges, as well. Project management is constantly watching the weather every day to ensure the safety of our workforce. We use multiple weather alert systems to halt work activities for thunder-

“While navigating the numerous entities and agencies that are involved does present a challenge, this JV [a joint venture betweenArcher Western and Traylor Bros.] andAtkins team are both well suited for the task,” said Bill Jeffries, project administrator, HFB Replacement. “Like any project, we have had our obstacles, but it’s coming along nicely.

Next Gen trucks so far.”

Kenworth Sales Company also was represented by Trevor

The Kenworth T680 Next Gen establishes a new industry standard by raising the bar for superior fuel efficiency, classleading performance and bold aerodynamic styling — expanding on the success of the classic Kenworth T680 model and taking The Driver’s Truck to the next level, according to the manufacturer.

During the event, Treadway presented System Transport with a very special anniversary gift — a refurbished and fully operational 1965 Kenworth W900.

The T680 Next Gen offers technology advancements, including an innovative 15-in. digital display, Next Gen SmartWheel, fully LED headlamps, under-the-vehicle airflow management, additional advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a sleek high-tech design that balances aerodynamics and serviceability.

Available in day cab, 40-in., 52-in. and 76-in. sleeper configurations, the T680 Next Gen is standard with the proprietary PACCAR Powertrain featuring the PACCAR MX-13 engine, PACCAR TX-12 automated transmission and PACCAR DX-40 drive axle.

During the ceremony, Williams was joined by TransSystem executives Dennis Williams (CEO/president); Rob Heskett (COO); Taylor Varley (CFO); Cory Staheli (CIO); Martin Singh (VP of maintenance and procurement); and Chuck Perry (risk manager).

“We have maintained an excellent partnership with System Transport throughout the decades. “Over the last several years we have expanded our Xcalibur extendable flatbed and dropdeck models, introduced the Traverse hydraulic tail models, created a new line of Workhorse lowbed models and added several new Magnitude heavy-haul models. We believe our name should reflect our entire product lineup, and our dealer network is very supportive of re-branding the business as Fontaine Specialized.”“We’veheard from many of our most respected dealers, and the feedback for this change is very positive,” remarked Heather Gilmer, VP sales. “The name change in a way is a ‘Back to the Future’ move for our company as we were previously ‘Fontaine Specialized’from 1993 to 2009. In fact, many of our seasoned customers continued to refer to our trailers as ‘Fontaine Specialized’even under the Heavy-Haul brand.

Workforce, supply chain and all of it ties together and the results of policies and actions decades in the works set off by COVID-19.”

The bottom line, according to AEM, is that despite all the challenges, growth is still expected in the ag and construction equipment sectors, even at a slower rate than in recent months.

Local construction material suppliers in the Indianapolis area — including quarries, concrete recycling facilities, landscape material suppliers, asphalt and concrete plants, and sand and gravel locations — were able to claim their digital storefronts which allow them to sell their products directly to the platform’s growing user base of construction professionals.

In addition to its digital storefront program, Soil Connect continues to invest in and enhance its technology to advance its mission to be a full-stack, end-to-end solution for the construction industry. Most recently, the platform built a new tech stack to support its marketplace, allowing Soil Connect to introduce new services and features to its community, including the ability to triangulate and secure transport for materials within the app, as well as enhancing its Daily Dig job site monitoring service.

Soil Connect Celebrates Launch of Its Digital Storefronts at Indianapolis Event

Soil Connect, an award-winning online soil and aggregates marketplace, recently celebrated the launch of its digital storefronts with a pair of events in Indianapolis.Visitorsfrom the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI), customers and colleagues of Brandeis Equipment, and a host of construction tech companies were on hand to celebrate the launch of the QuickStart program.

In addition to the digital storefronts, the site allows users to create posts that they have soil, aggregates and other building supplies, or that they are looking for the same. Soil Connect allows users to create local connections and work more efficiently. Soil Connect saw a 2,000 percent increase in posts, the company said.

“It was great to see so many customers in Indianapolis and celebrate the first of many regional QuickStart events,” said Soil Connect Founder Cliff Fetner. “The huge increase in volume is a testament to the viability of the platform, and the need for this tool in the industry.”

“Ultimately, the imbalance between supply and demand and COVID-19 restrictions eliminated all the inventory and the grease that allows the global supply clock to operate,” said Duyck. “Another metaphor that maybe hits closer to our industries is this: We’re running a machine that’s low on oil, and almost out of it. The machine will continue to run, and maybe even run for a while — until it doesn’t.”

Bottom Line is known for providing access to hard-to-find specialty solutions that combine the raw power and flexibility of carrier equipment like excavators, dozers, wheel loaders, compact track loaders, and telehandler forklifts with tools designed and engineered to maximize productivity, profitability and operator safety, the company said. The Bottom Line Pro-Fit Solutions team delivers these benefits and more through a concerted, laser-focused commitment to providing customers with the right tool for every job.

“Footing construction uses a precast soffit, with side steel forms that are suspended from the piles. The gaps around the piles are then sealed and water is pumped out. Next, the reinforcing steel cage is installed, and footing concrete is placed. The side steel forms are then removed, and the precast soffit is left Jeffriesbehind.”noted that pile and girders are being transported by barge to the job site from manufacturing facilities along the bay, south of the project. Prefabricated reinforcing steel for substructure elements also are moved by barge to their installation location. Concrete for substructure items, such as footings, columns and caps, is being delivered from the existing southbound bridge and conveyed to the installation point by crane and bucket.

When outfitted with mobile shears, hydraulic concrete breakers, crushers, plate compactors, rotating grapples, vibratory sheet pile drivers, mulchers and many other specialty attachments, Bottom Line Equipment’s fleet of heavy equipment delivers value in the market. Industrial and commercial construction projects, pipelines, right-of-way land clearing, debris removal, farming, agriculture and many other heavy operations can all be performed with improved productivity, value and safety, the company said.

“Our portion of the path will be finished at the completion of the project, which is expected to be the end of 2025.”

“Rehab of expansion joints and concrete will occur on the existing southbound bridge before opening it to northbound traffic,” said Jeffries. “This work is projected to be completed by the end of 2024. After converting the current southbound bridge to the northbound direction, the existing northbound bridge will be demolished.”

• Leveraging the auxiliary hydraulics of a 36 metric ton excavator to fuel an 80 ton vibratory sheet pile driver

The bicycle/pedestrian path will include four overlooks and aesthetic features that will be located at each end of the bridge and on the overlooks.

“We began driving pile in October 2020 and are projected to finish in the summer of 2023. There are more than 3,000 piles on the project.”

• Quickly loading, hauling and dumping 60 ton loads of material from one side of a jobsite to another with a tractor and dual side-dump trailers

• Lifting and moving heavy pipe and enormous cut slabs of concrete using advanced vacuum lifter technology

The hours can be long and there is still a significant amount of work remaining, but for Jeffries and the rest of the team, the investment is well worth it.

Some of the many applications possible with the Bottom Line Pro-Fit Solutions packages include:

Kurt Degueyter, Bottom Line CEO, owner and founder, said, “The Bottom Line Pro-Fit Solutions Specialty Attachments Group is the latest example of our commitment to the industries we serve. This team is focused on acquiring, configuring and delivering unique equipment and specialty attachment solutions that improve the efficiency, profitability and most-importantly, the safety of our customers.”

Many of the Yoder & Frey “regulars” traveled to Kissimmee, Fla., to bid on some quality machines, and the local Florida contractors and dealers came out in droves as well. The August heat was a perfect match for the hot fast-paced bidding on a great line up of machines, support equipment and miscellaneous lots.
