That Time of the Year Again!

Somehow, 12 months have flashed by, and here we are once more—gearing up for the biggest night in our calendar: the Design Middle East Awards 2025. It’s the season of long days, late nights, endless checklists, a little chaos, and a lot of pressure. Yet, despite the madness, there’s something incredibly grounding about watching everything come together piece by piece. Every conversation, every decision, every name on the shortlist reminds us why this event matters—not just as a celebration, but as a snapshot of the region’s creative heartbeat. What makes it all worthwhile is witnessing the community unite with genuine enthusiasm, ready to honour the people who have shaped, challenged, and elevated our industry. In a world that moves at a relentless pace, moments like these remind us that design isn’t just about structures and spaces—it’s about the people who breathe life into them.

Our cover story this month shines a light on Bruno Nakad and Patrick Daniel of Blue Camel—a duo who prove that leadership doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. Rather than talking about achievements, they let their work speak for itself. And few projects speak louder than Ciel Tower. As the world’s tallest hotel, it stands as both an engineering triumph and a design marvel, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in vertical hospitality. Inside this extraordinary structure, Blue Camel’s contribution reveals a level of detail and discipline that can only come from years of dedication to their craft. Their approach turns complexity into clarity, scale into intimacy, and vision into reality. What

sets them apart is not just technical excellence but the quiet confidence and humility they bring into every project—qualities that resonate deeply in an industry often driven by noise.

This issue is filled with our usual blend of features, new projects, insightful interviews, and everything that’s shaping the design story of our region.

And honestly? As I write this, I’m already eyeing the stunning outdoor furniture picks in our selection pages. Once the awards dust settles, I fully intend to disappear onto one of those loungers—lazing, snoozing, and reclaiming a little calm before the cycle begins all over again.

Casa Milano Unveils Ambiente, Its New Home Décor Division

Casa Milano proudly announces the launch of Ambiente by Casa Milano, its new home décor division, during an exclusive event that also celebrated the brand’s 6th anniversary. The evening featured the grand reveal of Ambiente’s name and logo, marking a milestone in Casa Milano’s journey of design excellence and innovation.

Ambiente by Casa Milano is the passion project of Ruby Sajan, who brings her deep appreciation for artistry, color, texture, and emotion into the world of home décor. With a background as a certified makeup artist, Ruby’s journey from beauty to interiors was a natural evolution — transforming her creativity into a purposeful mission to curate spaces that are elegant, expressive, and full of life.

Ruby’s personal style is central to Ambiente’s collections. Every

piece is personally handpicked by her from different countries across the world, ensuring that it reflects her personality and aura while maintaining a balance of vintage charm and modern artistry. The collections are thoughtfully curated to combine Ruby’s sensibilities with the needs and preferences of the audience, ensuring that every space is distinctive, functional, and emotionally engaging.

“Ambiente is the culmination of a long-held dream to create homes that inspire and delight,” said Mrs. Ruby Sajan, President of Casa Milano and founder of Ambiente. “My first collection is a true reflection of who I am –elegant, expressive, and soulful. Each design embodies a harmony between artistry and functionality, where luxury meets warmth and mindfulness. Our vision is to craft spaces that tell a story, evoke emotion, and bring beauty into everyday living, all while honoring sustainability and ethical sourcing.”

Each piece embodies Ruby’s vision: refined luxury paired with creativity, sustainability, and meaningful design, reflecting Casa Milano’s hallmark sophistication while adding her unique personal touch.

“I’ve always gravitated toward either purely vintage pieces or distinctly modern art, fusion never quite spoke to me,” Ruby shared. “If I had to choose, vintage will always have my heart; it carries a sense of history and soul that modern design rarely matches. With Ambiente, my personal aesthetic is deeply woven into the collection, yet every piece is thoughtfully curated to resonate with the consumer’s taste, lifestyle, and individuality.”

Azhar Sajan, Founder and Visionary behind Casa Milano, remarked, “Celebrating six years of Casa Milano alongside the launch of Ambiente is incredibly special for me personally. Seeing my mother, Ruby, bring her creativity and passion into the business is inspiring, and I feel honored to support her in fulfilling this dream. Ambiente is not just a division; it’s a reflection of her vision, personality, and dedication, and it brings me immense pride to witness her passion come to life in this way.”

Under Ruby’s leadership, Ambiente by Casa Milano promises to redefine luxury interiors in the UAE. From ecofriendly materials to ethically sourced accents, the division emphasizes mindful design, where every object is thoughtfully curated to enhance both aesthetic appeal and the well-being of the home’s occupants.

The launch marks the beginning of an ambitious journey for Ambiente, with plans to expand its collections across the UAE, inspiring homes to embrace artistry, elegance, and individuality.

Kidzink And Koda Unveil “Beyond the Box”

Kidzink and Koda are formally announcing the launch of their new book, Beyond the Box: How neurosciencebased design can transform the learning environment, a major new publication that introduces a world-first, science-backed practical framework – The Enriched Environment Model –for designing schools that are aligned with how students learn, feel, and thrive.

The book, from Kidzink, an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm dedicated to making schools better, and sister company Koda, the Kidzink Office of Design and Architecture, introduces The Enriched Environment Model to the region’s education sector, building on its international debut earlier this year at the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture Conference in California.

Beyond the Box is about the invisible architecture of learning

– how the spaces we design for children literally shape their brains, emotions, and ability to learn. It combines over 250 studies in neuroscience and environmental psychology with real-world school insights to create a practical framework.

Developed through years of research rooted in pedagogy, neuroarchitecture and environmental psychology, The Enriched Environment Model provides a systemised approach to designing learning environments grounded in cognitive, emotional, sensory and socio-behavioural needs. In essence, it’s a way to design schools not just to look inspiring, but to actually enhance learning, wellbeing, and behaviour. This, and further insights within Beyond the Box, showcase case studies and learnings from over 1000 plus Kidzink projects across more than 23 countries, including a significant number across the UAE and wider Gulf region. The seven-chapter book challenges both historical and contemporary school design,

while offering neurosciencebased frameworks that act as both inspiration and practical guide for education leaders across government, school and design sectors.

The book was introduced to the education investment community EdInvest, colocated with GESS Dubai (11–13 Nov), where Kidzink presented its research to policymakers, school leaders, and investors.

Ana Mombiedro, Director of Applied Research at Kidzink, said: “For the first time, designers, architects and education leaders have a book that translates decades of scientific research on the brain into a practical way to design learning environments. Beyond the Box explains why space matters, how it shapes learning and wellbeing, and how neuroscience can be applied systematically rather than intuitively. Inside the book, The Enriched Environment Model provides the step-by-step framework that makes this possible. It is a science-backed guide that finally shows how to design schools in alignment with how humans think, feel and learn.”

Charlotte Borghesi, Founder and General Manager of Kidzink, said: “I have dedicated my career to making schools better, because in most countries, schools still look and feel like they did generations ago. We created Beyond the Box because we believe the industry needs a call to rethink educational spaces. The work we have done to inform the book and Enriched Environment Model™has been rigorous, scientific and long overdue.

creative future Rethinking

DR. MOHAMED AL-MUSLEH, Head of School of Textiles and Design at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, explores how design, technology, and sustainability intersect to reshape the future of creative practice .

The convergence of design, technology, and sustainability represents one of the defining frontiers of our time. Across disciplines, designers are being called upon not just to create objects or experiences, but to rethink the systems that sustain life on this planet. The question is no longer what we design, but how and why we design, and for whom.

Technology, once seen as a separate or even opposing force to the natural world, has become an essential medium of design. From artificial intelligence and material science to robotics and digital fabrication, our tools are evolving faster than our traditions. The challenge for designers today lies in harnessing these technologies to enable more responsible and regenerative futures, rather than accelerating extraction and waste.

Sustainability in design must therefore move beyond material substitution or energy efficiency. It calls for a deeper shift, a recognition that the designed world and the living world are intertwined. This shift requires us to think in systems, not silos: understanding how a product, a building, or a digital interface connects to broader ecological and social patterns. It is as much an ethical and cultural transition as it is a technical one.

In education and research, this intersection has become a fertile ground for exploration. At the School of Textiles and Design, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, we approach this through the idea of applied innovation by design, encouraging our students and collaborators to use technology not as an end in itself, but as a means to address real human and environmental challenges. Whether the context is urban mobility,

material reuse, or energy resilience, the goal is the same: to design outcomes that add value without subtracting from the planet’s resources.

Emerging technologies play a complex role in this landscape. Artificial intelligence, for example, has redefined creative workflows, enabling new forms of human–machine collaboration. Data-driven design tools allow us to model environmental impacts with greater accuracy. At the same time, automation and digitalisation raise questions about authorship, equity, and accessibility. The future of sustainable design depends on how we navigate these tensions combining technological intelligence with human insight and empathy.

In the Gulf region, these questions are particularly relevant. Cities like Dubai are living laboratories for the future, where innovation and sustainability must coexist in real time. Designers here are increasingly being asked to imagine how technologies can integrate into the urban fabric, powering buildings, informing mobility systems, and shaping new models of living that align with the region’s sustainability ambitions.

Design, then, becomes a bridge between possibility and responsibility. It connects disciplines that rarely speak to each other: science and culture, data and emotion, industry and ecology. It invites us to consider not only how to create desirable futures, but also how to make them desirable because they are sustainable.

As educators, our role is to prepare the next generation of designers to operate within this evolving context, to think critically about materials and energy, to understand the social implications of design decisions, and to work collaboratively across boundaries. The designer of the future will need to be both creative and computational, both local in sensitivity and global in awareness.

The intersection of design, technology, and sustainability is ultimately about balance: between progress and preservation, innovation and intention, growth and restraint. It reminds us that technology, when guided by design thinking and ethical purpose, can be a restorative force rather than a destructive one.

The future will not be designed by technology alone. It will be shaped by the conversations, collaborations, and communities that use technology to serve human and planetary wellbeing. That is the space where design can lead, not by dictating solutions, but by framing better questions.

Dr. Mohamed Al-Musleh, Head of School of Textiles and Design at HeriotWatt University Dubai

SHAPING DESIGN Through Material

Intelligence

Firas Yasser Gharzeddine, Managing Partner at Materia, reflects on the brand’s evolution—from launching during the Gulf’s design boom to becoming a trusted creative partner for architects and designers across the region.

What inspired you to establish Materia back in 2008?

In 2008, design in the Gulf was evolving rapidly, but the materials landscape wasn’t keeping pace. Architects were pushing boundaries with bold ideas, yet often struggled to source products that matched that level of innovation. I saw an opportunity to bridge that gap, bringing global material intelligence closer to our region in a way that felt accessible, relatable, and inspiring. Materia was never intended to be just a supplier. From the start, the vision was to tell stories—about craft, culture, and the powerful role materials play in shaping how we experience space.

Firas Yasser Gharzeddine, Managing Partner, and Founder of Materia International.

How has Materia evolved with the region’s changing design landscape?

When we first launched, the regional focus was largely on luxury and statement-making design. Today, priorities have shifted; design is now driven by meaning, sustainability, longevity, and how a space makes people feel. Materia has evolved in step with this transformation. We've expanded our network, embraced digital tools, and cultivated deeper, more collaborative partnerships with designers. Our role has moved beyond simply supplying materials; we're now an active part of the creative process. We're not just keeping up with trends; we're helping to shape them.

What sets Materia apart in the competitive materials market?

Curation — that’s truly at the heart of everything we do!

We’re not here to offer everything; we focus on offering the right things. Every material in our portfolio is carefully selected for its story, its integrity, and its ability to elevate design without demanding attention. But what really sets us apart goes beyond the materials themselves; it’s the relationships. We invest time in understanding what architects and designers are trying to express. That human connection, that shared creative trust, is what keeps people coming back.

Every corner of Wau Palm Resort reflects the perfect blend of luxury and thoughtful design.

How do collaborations with architects and designers shape your vision?

They’re everything. Collaboration is where the real magic happens. When you truly listen to architects and designers, you begin to understand the gaps — the things they can’t find, or that don’t exist yet. That’s when we step in to explore, experiment, and sometimes even develop something entirely new together. Some of our most meaningful moments at Materia have come from that creative exchange, when someone brings in a sketch, and together we find the material that brings it to life. It’s a very human process, and an incredibly rewarding one.

In what ways is Materia embracing sustainability and innovation?

Sustainability is no longer a trend — it’s a responsibility. At Materia, we work with brands that prioritise recycled content, low-impact manufacturing, and traceable sourcing. But we also explore innovation beyond materials, from digital tools that allow designers to visualise finishes more accurately, to adaptive surfaces that respond to their environment.

For us, sustainability and innovation go hand in hand. Both are about designing smarter, more intentional spaces that endure — not just in form, but in purpose.

How has your background in marketing and management influenced your leadership?

Marketing taught me the power of storytelling — how to connect with people emotionally and create a meaningful bond with a brand.

Management, on the other hand, instilled the importance of structure and discipline, showing me how to transform vision into tangible results. Together, these experiences have shaped my leadership style, which balances creativity with clarity. I still view Materia as a living brand, not merely a business. It has its own voice, personality, and promise, and my role is to nurture and protect these qualities while guiding its growth.

What’s next for Materia and for you as a leader in design materials?

It’s about growth — but growth with purpose. We are expanding our presence regionally and investing in digital tools to make our collections more accessible to designers everywhere. On a personal level, I am committed to sharing the knowledge we’ve gained through mentoring, public speaking, and collaborative projects that challenge and expand the possibilities of what materials can achieve.

WALLS speak When

AZHAR SAJAN, Founder & Director, Casa Milano, and Director, Danube Hospitality reflects on how Talking Walls has evolved into a platform empowering young designers and reshaping creative dialogue in the UAE.

Where innovation meets elegance — Casa Milano presented the latest trends shaping tomorrow’s luxury interiors at Downtown Design

“LUXURY, TO ME, IS NOT JUST ABOUT PRICE TAGS OR PREMIUM PRODUCTS. IT’S ABOUT EXPERIENCE, STORYTELLING, AND EMOTION. TALKING WALLS PERFECTLY REFLECTS THAT. IT’S EXPERIENTIAL — IT’S ABOUT FEELING DESIGN RATHER THAN JUST SEEING IT.”

Talking Walls has become one of the most anticipated design platforms in the UAE. How did the idea first come to life?

Honestly, it started very simply. I just wanted to create a space where designers could truly express themselves. We’ve always collaborated with incredible architects and designers at Casa Milano, but I felt there wasn’t a platform where their creativity could really be showcased beyond a project or a client brief.

So, Talking Walls was born out of that thought — to let the walls do the talking and to give designers the freedom to build something they believed in, not something limited by a budget or a brand

guideline. To me, it has always been less of a marketing initiative and more of a movement that celebrated the people behind great design.

This was the third season. How has the journey evolved since you first launched it?

The first season was just an experiment. We didn’t know what to expect. But the response was overwhelming. Designers loved the concept, and visitors genuinely connected with the storytelling behind every wall. By the third season, it had evolved into a proper design dialogue. It wasn’t simply about installations anymore — it was about mentorship, collaboration, and exposure. We partnered with bigger brands, we had stronger creative direction, and the level of detail and craftsmanship grew massively. Every season taught

us something new about how the design community thinks and grows.

You always emphasised that junior designers were the future of the design industry. What made you so passionate about supporting them?

Because I relate to them. When I started Casa Milano, even though I had the family business behind me, I still had to prove myself. I had to build something from scratch. So I understand what it means to be young, ambitious, and just waiting for someone to believe in your ideas.

These junior designers bring this kind of raw creativity that’s very inspiring. They aren’t boxed in by years of “how things are done.” They experiment, they make mistakes, but they push boundaries — and that’s where real innovation comes from.

Azhar Sajan, Director of Casa Milano

TESTIMONIAL FROM

Being part of Talking Walls Season 3 with Casa Milano has been a truly inspiring experience for us at Olympia. The initiative beautifully showcases how art and design can transform spaces and tell meaningful stories. We’re proud to see our WC and washbasin products featured in such creative settings and to collaborate with a partner like Casa Milano, whose commitment to quality and design excellence aligns so well with our own values. It’s been a pleasure contributing to a platform that celebrates innovation, craftsmanship, and collaboration in the design world.

“I’VE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT TRAVEL IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO LEARN DESIGN. YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND CRAFTSMANSHIP, TEXTURE, OR DETAIL UNLESS YOU’VE SEEN IT FIRSTHAND.”

detail unless you’ve seen it firsthand.

So, we thought, why not give them that opportunity?

Visiting our partner brands in Europe lets the winners experience how global design functions at scale — all the way from innovation labs to workshops. It’s not just a prize. It’s an experience that opens their eyes to what’s possible beyond our region.

Casa Milano became synonymous with luxury and design excellence. How did initiatives like Talking Walls align with the brand’s vision?

Luxury, to me, is not just about price tags or premium products. It’s about experience, storytelling, and emotion.

The designers worked on their concepts for nearly nine months before the exhibition. What kind of transformation did you see in them through this journey?

A complete transformation — from a personal and professional perspective. In the beginning, most of them came in with just ideas, but by the end, they were presenting fully realised concepts with materiality, storylines, and confidence.

You could literally see their growth. They went

from shy designers to people owning their space and explaining their work with pride. And that, to me, is the biggest win. Talking Walls was never only about the final product. It was about the journey of selfbelief and collaboration.

The winners got to visit Casa Milano’s partner brand warehouses in Europe. What inspired that experience?

I’ve always believed that travel is one of the best ways to learn design. You can’t understand craftsmanship, texture, or

Talking Walls perfectly reflects that. It’s experiential — it’s about feeling design rather than just seeing it. The campaign made Casa Milano a space for creativity and dialogue, not just retail. It reinforces the idea that Casa Milano is a design destination, where every wall, product, or installation has a story to tell.

What could we expect from Season 4?

Season 4 will take everything we’ve learned and push it further. We want to explore more interactive formats, maybe even move beyond physical installations into digital storytelling or AI-assisted design.

Olympia
Azhar Sajan alongside his family — the people who inspire his journey.

The idea is to keep it evolving, to keep challenging what design means today. And most importantly, to keep the spotlight on the next generation of creative talent.

As the founder of Casa Milano, what continues to drive your passion for design and innovation?

For me, it’s always been about creating experiences. When I

walk into a space, I look at how it makes me feel, not just how it looks. That’s what drives me — finding ways to make people feel something through design. And because the industry keeps changing so fast, there’s always something new to learn, something new to improve. That’s what keeps me going. It’s the constant evolution and the challenge to stay ahead of the curve.

Finally, what message would you have liked to share with the followers of Casa Milano & Talking Walls?

I would say thank you for believing in us and growing with us. Talking Walls is not just ours — it’s also yours. Every visitor, every designer, every follower who engaged with it has shaped what it’s become.

And to young designers out there: keep experimenting and keep dreaming big. The industry needs your ideas. Don’t wait for permission to create. If you wait for the perfect time or opportunity, you'll never get started. Just go for it.

At Vado, we were delighted to be associated with Casa Milano for this remarkable event.

Casa Milano’s precision in execution and dedication to delivering pioneering initiatives like Talking Walls is truly remarkable. Working alongside their passionate team made the entire experience inspiring and impactful. The event not only showcased the strength of our partnership but set a new benchmark for eco-conscious bathrooms with Safari by Vado. Safari marks a key part of our promise to the planet. with a nostalgic smile. “We came here as babies, went to school here at Al Mawakeb, and have witnessed firsthand the incredible evolution of Dubai’s skyline and the UAE’s spirit. It’s impossible not to be inspired when you live in a place that constantly reinvents itself through design.” Their journey into design started naturally — through curiosity and friendship. “What truly drew us into design and fit-out was curiosity and friendship — that sense of wanting to achieve something together, To better understand how spaces

Over time, that promise became a purpose.

“We evolved by leading with our hearts first and by being true to who we are. We’ve stayed hands-on, no matter how much we grow — on site, reviewing drawings, touching materials.

That’s how we keep our edge,” share Bruno and Patrick.

Being trusted by The First Group meant a great deal to them. “It’s recognition of our ability to deliver at a world-class scale. But it’s also deeply personal — to do this here in Dubai, in front of our families and friends after 49 years, is just magical,” they explain.

Every phase of Ciel demanded precision — tight timelines, complex coordination, and relentless attention to detail. But their favourite moment wasn’t technical. They say: “There was a point — a bit further into the project — when the beauty of Ciel’s immaculate interior design started coming to life, and everyone realised how special this project truly was. That was our moment.”

Collaboration was key — and something they are deeply proud of. “Being true to the design intent

is everything. Working with Ms. Nadine Atta, the Vice President of Design at The First Group and her team was a joy. Their professionalism and commitment inspired us, and the freedom they gave us to build on their creativity is what made Ciel so unique,” they share.

There’s a remarkable team behind Bluecamel, and Bruno and Patrick understand that completely—they are incredibly proud of them. They insist that the success is not just theirs, but belongs to the entire team. As they put it: “All this would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our Senior Project Manager, Mohamed Harb, and his team. Their passion and love for Bluecamel, and what it stands for, is what made all of this possible.”

Craft First, AI Second

Working on new-age projects like Ciel Tower naturally demands an extensive use of technology — but for Bruno and Patrick, technology

is only as powerful as the human talent behind it. They believe it should serve as an enabler, not a substitute. For them, the soul of design still lies in the hands that craft it, the minds that imagine it, and the emotions that ultimately shape an experience. “Technology excites us — but it should enhance, not replace craftsmanship. Their philosophy is rooted in a balance: embracing innovation without surrendering the authenticity that defines their work,” Patrick says. They recognise AI as a powerful tool, one that can streamline the more mechanical layers of practice. “AI can generate options, but it can’t feel emotion. That’s still our job.” In their view, the rise of AI is not a threat but an opportunity — a way to elevate the precision and efficiency of modelling, scheduling, and coordination. These technical gains, they say, free designers to return to what matters most: materiality, expression, and the emotional resonance of a space. Ultimately, they emphasise that technology should be a partner, not a replacement. “Technology should enhance what we do, not dilute it,” they feel.

Detail as a Signature

Detail is an obsession at BlueCamel, and it defines the way Bruno and Patrick approach every project. Their philosophy is simple yet uncompromising: “If a detail feels easy, it’s probably not the right one. Greatness lies in the complex, the uncommon, the meticulously crafted. Detail also starts with communication. Everyone knows what’s expected. There’s shared pride in getting it right.” Quality, for them, is not just a standard — it is a culture shaped by presence, accountability, and example. As Bruno explains, “We’re present — on site, in workshops. When people see how much we care, they care too. We’ve built a culture where challenges are discussed, not hidden.” Their dedication extends deeply into client relationships as

well. “We’re in the business of creating experiences. These are journeys we talk about with our families — when we go home late at night knowing we’ve created something meaningful,” they say. Projects like the Emirates Business Class Lounge and Concrete at Alserkal have contributed to their evolution, yet Ciel remains an emo-

“The UAE’s openness and culture of collaboration keep us inspired. There’s always something new being built — it pushes us to evolve,” they say with a smile. As they look to the future, their momentum is stronger than ever. “We’re ready for the next phase,” they say — one filled with new typologies, broader portfolios, and challenges that spark their imagination. From a small studio to one of the UAE’s most respected fit-out firms, BlueCamel’s rise is rooted in friendship, persistence, and an unshakeable belief in meaningful craft. Their journey lives in every space they complete, carrying echoes of their childhood in Dubai and the pride they now share with their families. Patrick sums it up simply: “We want to keep building things that mean something.” And Bruno adds, “As long as it’s done with heart, it will always feel like home.”

“If a detail feels easy, it’s probably not the right one. Greatness lies in the complex, the uncommon, the meticulously crafted. Detail also starts with communication. Everyone knows what’s expected. There’s shared pride in getting it right.”

The Future Ahead

Curiosity remains the engine that drives BlueCamel forward. “Travel, art, and people. We’re endlessly curious. Inspiration can come from a shadow,

BlueCamel’s journey shows that real progress isn’t rushed — it’s crafted with care, commitment, and a clear belief in doing things the right way. Designing with Intent Built on Clarity

In conversation with RANJIT PRASAD, Founder & Principal Architect of RAW Interior Design, on how authenticity, storytelling, and purpose-driven design shape spaces that balance calmness, luxury, and innovation across diverse sectors.

RAW HAS EVOLVED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE ITS FOUNDING. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THE REBRANDING PROCESS AND WHAT THE NEW IDENTITY REFLECTS ABOUT THE STUDIO TODAY?

RAW originally started under a different name — Splyce, reflecting the idea of “splicing” strategy, storytelling, and design into a unified offering.

As our services grew, we naturally gravitated towards a design-first approach. RAW initially represented our design services, but the name came to embody pure, unfiltered design and the values we hold dear: authenticity, originality, and honesty.

Making RAW the parent brand was a natural evolution — bold, memorable, and true to our ethos.

MINIMALISM IS KEY TO RAW — HOW DO YOU MAKE IT FEEL IMPACTFUL AND LUXURIOUS?

Minimalism at RAW isn’t about taking things away; it’s about giving every element meaning. Precision in proportion, scale, and balance creates impact, while materials, lighting, and detailing elevate the space into something luxurious.

Luxury comes from authenticity, not excess. A single bold gesture, warm wood, or subtle texture can transform a minimalist environment into something memorable. Minimalism feels impactful when intentional, and luxurious when effortless.

HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN RAW’S SIGNATURE IDENTITY ACROSS HEALTHCARE, HOSPITALITY, AND WORKPLACES?

RAW’s signature is a mindset, not a single aesthetic. Whether designing a restaurant, hospital, or workplace, we focus on clarity, purpose, and human connection.

Jeeva Restaurant — luxurious dining with grand elegance. A space where every meal feels extraordinary.
Kraken — an award-winning restaurant where design meets dining.

We ask: How should this space make someone feel? Calm in healthcare, immersive in hospitality, energising in workplaces. Minimalism and attention to detail tie it all together, ensuring our identity is unmistakable across sectors.

HOW DOES STORYTELLING INFLUENCE YOUR DESIGN PROCESS? ANY STANDOUT EXAMPLES?

Storytelling is the backbone of RAW. Every project begins with a narrative — of the brand, the users, and the intended experience. Design brings that story to life.

Lane 88 is more than a recreational centre; it immerses visitors in a journey of fun and relaxation. Kraken, inspired by a mythical sea creature, uses bold, dramatic design to create a multi-sensory experience. Both projects earned awards for their narrative-driven design.

Storytelling transforms spaces from functional to award-winning, connecting every detail to the overall experience.

HOW HAS TECHNOLOGY CHANGED THE WAY CLIENTS EXPERIENCE YOUR DESIGNS?

Technology has redefined client engagement. Tools such as 3D visualisation and virtual walkthroughs let clients experience scale, mood, and flow before construction begins. It acts as a creative enabler, allowing us to refine concepts dynamically and translate ideas into spaces that connect vividly with people — virtually and physically.

HOW DO YOU INTEGRATE SUSTAINABILITY WITHOUT COMPROMISING AESTHETICS?

Sustainability at RAW doesn’t mean “basic”. Every material, finish, and system is chosen to be environmentally conscious while enhancing design. We treat it as a creative opportunity. Natural materials, energy-efficient systems, and thoughtful detailing become signature design elements, proving that conscious choices can be

luxurious, intentional, and fully integrated.

WHAT’S RAW’S APPROACH TO ENSURING FLAWLESS EXECUTION FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION?

Flawless design is about translating client vision into reality — and exceeding it. We start with discovery sessions to understand aspirations and unspoken ideas. The process is broken into intentional stages, with regular reviews to ensure alignment. Through meticulous planning and detailed visual representation, we refine every element before it reaches the site. Flawless means leaving clients awestruck, seeing what was in their mind realised in space.

HOW DO YOU DESIGN SPACES THAT BALANCE CALMNESS AND FUNCTIONALITY, LIKE CLINICS OR SPAS? Calmness and functionality are complementary. Across the

UAE and US, we focus on how people move, feel, and interact. Through zoning, circulation, lighting, and material choices, we create environments that are practical yet serene. This approach has resulted in award-winning dental clinics and spas, balancing efficiency with restorative experiences.

HOW DO YOU FOSTER COLLABORATION BETWEEN YOUR TEAM, CLIENTS, AND CONTRACTORS?

Collaboration is central to RAW. We begin with discovery sessions, listening to client goals and expectations. Detailed design documentation provides a common language for all stakeholders. Regular reviews, milestone check-ins, and site walkthroughs ensure alignment. By fostering transparency and shared accountability, every idea is considered, and every detail thoughtfully realised.

WHAT FUTURE DESIGN DIRECTIONS WILL RAW EXPLORE TO STAY AWARD-WINNING AND INNOVATIVE?

Innovation is embedded in RAW’s DNA. We are exploring experiential design, sustainability at scale, and emerging technologies to create cutting-edge, timeless spaces.

We focus on design that engages all senses, using light, sound, texture, and storytelling to strengthen connections between people and space. Sustainability drives creativity, showing that responsible choices can be bold, luxurious, and transformative. Our goal is to push boundaries while staying true to RAW’s essence, delivering spaces that inspire, surprise, and achieve global recognition.

Elegance by the shore

Dubai’s waterfront enters a new era with Dan Sibert, Senior Partner at Foster + Partners, leading the vision for Solaya in Jumeirah 1. He shares how the studio is redefining coastal living through calm modernism and fluid connections with nature.

In a city known for pushing the boundaries of architecture and setting new benchmarks, a landmark project is emerging along its pristine coastline. Solaya, an exclusive collection of 234 beachfront residences in the Jumeirah 1 neighbourhood, is poised to redefine residential living. This landmark project marks the next chapter of the longstanding partnership between Dubai Holding Investments and Brookfield Properties, leveraging the renowned Meraas brand. After shaping several of Dubai’s most iconic retail and lifestyle destinations, the partners are now bringing their expertise to create a new benchmark in the city’s residential market. Designed by world-renowned

Foster + Partners, with interiors by 1508 London, every residence has been thoughtfully crafted to deliver seamless indoor–outdoor living, with panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai skyline.

Solaya has been described as a blend of architectural precision and understated elegance. What was the overarching vision that guided Foster + Partners' design for this landmark coastal development?

Our overarching vision is to provide a collection of curated residences that offer refined luxury living, where the city meets the sea. The collaboration between Meraas and Brookfield Properties has been instrumental in crafting this vision. The buildings will be surrounded by incredible native greenery, and every apartment will be orientated to

maximise views and celebrate indoor-outdoor living by the beach. We are also generating a brand-new civic space for Dubai, which takes the form of a spectacular landscaped park at the centre of the site.

How did the unique beachfront setting in Jumeirah 1 influence the form, orientation, and spatial organisation of Solaya's nine buildings? The scheme comprises two distinct residential collections, which are connected by the new park that overlooks the beach. Landscaping flows seamlessly from the park into the residential areas, creating a green sanctuary in the heart of Dubai.

The residential buildings have been designed from the inside

out, so that their external appearance is defined by the arrangement of the apartments' different rooms. The rooms are rotated to provide each apartment with direct views along the coast and towards the city's skyline, resulting in a highly varied and stepped façade.

What architectural strategies did you employ to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces while maintaining privacy and comfort for residents?

We are using rough-cast stone from the local area for the buildings' vertical walls, creating a tactile, natural feel that connects the architecture to its beach context. This is contrasted with highly machined

balcony elements, establishing a dialogue between natural and engineered materials. Our design also blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces – and includes landscape features within the apartments to enhance residents' connections to the surrounding environment. The apartments feature courtyards, balconies, and outdoor terraces, which harmoniously blend nature with comfortable indoor living. Ground-floor homes connect with private gardens, while the whole-floor penthouses have their own dedicated lift access, private pools, and 360-degree views.

We are also incorporating significant landscaped areas between the buildings and the beach, which allows residents to 'breathe out' upon arrival. This transition from the intensity of the city to the relaxed beach

environment is a key experiential element of the project.

Solaya is positioned to become one of Dubai's most coveted addresses. From a design perspective, how did you balance exclusivity and community within such an expansive 40-acre masterplan?

Dedicated lift access and sensitive landscaping contribute to greater privacy for residents, while also offering communal green areas for the public to enjoy. The landscape design is defined by a layered approach, taking residents and visitors from a dune arrival area, through a sheltered canopy zone, to the park and the beach. Curated public amenities within the park combine passive and active elements. Extensive landscaping around the residential communities provides privacy and a sense of exclusivity.

Architecture for a changing world

In Conversation with Mahmoud Shahin, Design Director at P&T Group, as he shares how his design philosophy balances culture, people, and the planet in a rapidly changing world.

With over 20 years of experience, how has your design philosophy evolved?

My design philosophy has matured through experience and exposure to diverse contexts rather than taking a different direction. Early in my career, the focus was strongly on form and function, yet over time I have come to see architecture as something far more enduring. Working at P&T across the Middle East, Asia and Africa has deepened my appreciation of how architecture must balance human experience, cultural identity and environmental responsibility. With years of practice, I have grown more attuned to how buildings perform for people and for the planet, extending beyond the immediate act of creation to consider their long-term relevance and impact. Today, my approach is aligned with the ethos of the practice,

rooted in human experience, contextual sensitivity and sustainability. I view architecture as a discipline that must respond to the present while anticipating the future, particularly a post carbon future where resilience and environmental performance carry as much importance as beauty. This evolution is the result of personal growth, accumulated lessons from projects, and the wider transformation of the industry.

How do you ensure your projects stay connected to their cultural and environmental context?

Every project begins with a thorough study of its site, heritage, climate and community. I regard architecture as a dialogue between people, places and time. Designing in Riyadh, for example, is very different from working in Dubai or Lagos, and the architecture

must respond authentically to these differences. Culturally, I draw inspiration from local traditions, materials and urban patterns, while reinterpreting them in contemporary ways so the project remains relevant and future ready. Environmentally, contextual design means working with the climate rather than against it, whether that is orienting buildings to limit solar gain, harnessing prevailing winds, or using shading to improve comfort. Ultimately, a building should feel as though it belongs to its setting, offering both a sense of identity and a sustainable response to its environment.

What strategies are key to reducing embodied and operational carbon in architecture?

Reducing carbon begins at the earliest stages of design. For embodied carbon, we work collaboratively with P&T

teams to prioritise low impact materials, such as recycled or locally sourced options, and adopt efficient construction methods that limit waste. For operational carbon, strategies include passive design, natural ventilation and daylighting, combined with renewable energy integration and intelligent technologies. The most important step is holistic design, where structure, envelope and systems are optimised in concert rather than as separate elements. Through this integrated approach, we can significantly reduce a project’s carbon footprint across its full life cycle. Sustainability is not an afterthought but a core principle embedded in our design process.

Can you share how projects like the Innovation Hub in Abu Dhabi push sustainable design forward?

The Innovation Hub

The 70-storey Burj Rafal, Riyadh’s first high-rise residential tower, houses the 300-room Burj Rafal - JW Marriott Hotel on its lower floors, a six-storey podium with dining, fitness, leisure, and retail offerings, and 40 upper floors featuring apartments, duplexes, and an exclusive residence club.
Mahmoud Shahin, Design Director at P&T Group

represents a step towards the future of architecture in a low carbon world. Its design employs the mass of the building to provide shading rather than relying on applied devices, integrates natural ventilation and maximises daylight, which reduces dependence on mechanical systems. Renewable energy is also incorporated to offset operational carbon. Yet beyond the technical strategies, the project creates an environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. It demonstrates that sustainability can elevate creativity. The Hub is as much about the experience of its users as it is about energy efficiency, showing how architecture can set the tone for responsible and inspiring urban futures.

From luxury resorts to high-rise towers, what shifts are you seeing in project types and client demands?

There has been a marked shift in how clients define luxury and value. A decade ago, luxury was often associated with scale, opulence and highly polished finishes. Today, clients and users place equal or greater importance on wellness, sustainability and connectivity. In hospitality, travellers increasingly desire immersive, nature connected experiences rather than only traditional five-star service. In commercial projects, workplaces are now

designed to support collaboration, flexibility, shared amenities and employee wellbeing, alongside meeting demanding sustainability targets. Residential projects are moving towards integrated branded communities where liveability and services matter as much as individual units.

Clients are seeking architecture that provides enduring value for people as well as for the planet.

As one of the Top 30 Most Influential Architects in MENA, how can regional architects shape global discourse?

The Middle East and Africa are regions of rapid growth, cultural diversity and challenging climates. These conditions create difficulties but also opportunities for innovation. By tackling issues such as water scarcity, extreme heat and limited resources, architects here are developing solutions that can enrich global practice.

Strategies for passive cooling, integrated master planning and hybrid urban models are being tested in this region and can influence other parts of the world facing climate pressures. Regional architects also have a duty to demonstrate that progress does not mean abandoning cultural identity. We can shape cities that are modern yet remain connected to tradition. By sharing these insights internationally, architects from the region can help advance the wider dialogue on sustainability, resilience and authenticity.

How are you mentoring the next generation at P&T, and what skills do you see as essential for young architects?

Mentorship is one of the most rewarding aspects of my role. At P&T, we have a collaborative

studio culture where young architects feel empowered to contribute ideas, take responsibility and learn through real project engagement. We encourage them to participate in competitions, design reviews and client presentations, so they gain experience across all aspects of practice. The skills that matter most today extend beyond design talent. Adaptability is essential, given the speed of change in our profession. Environmental literacy is equally vital, since sustainability has become central to design. Strong communication is also critical, because architecture requires collaboration across multiple disciplines and stakeholders. Above all, I encourage young architects to think critically about the social and environmental impact of their work, so they can develop the mindset to become leaders in their own right.

How do you see Middle Eastern architecture adapting to climate change and rapid urban growth?

The region is undergoing significant transformation. Climate change and fast paced urbanisation are compelling us to rethink how we design both cities and buildings. Architecture is adapting by prioritising passive strategies, renewable energy and resilient planning. There is a growing emphasis on walkability, accessible public spaces and stronger community integration, moving away from car dependent planning towards human centred urbanism. Increasingly, projects are judged by their contribution to long term sustainability targets, including ambitions for net zero emissions. What is inspiring is that the Middle East is creating its own design frameworks, rooted in culture and climate, that have the potential to guide other regions as they face similar challenges.

Engaging with them provides invaluable insights into emerging trends, material preferences, sustainability requirements, and technological integration, which directly informs our product development strategy.

Finally, we learn immensely from their feedback on our products, their challenges in design, and their aspirations

for future bathrooms. This dialogue often sparks new ideas for collaboration and new solutions.

BUDDHA-BAR BRINGS ITS ICONIC LIFESTYLE TO DUBAI’S WORLD ISLANDS

WORDS BY: VIBHA MEHTA

Buddha-Bar Real Estate Development, in collaboration with Yieldhaüs, is redefining waterfront living with the launch of the region’s firstever BuddhaBar Hotel and Floating Residences on Dubai’s World Islands, a visionary AED 3 billion development merging design, marine innovation, and the brand’s signature spirit of music, mood, and magic.

The shores of Dubai are preparing to welcome a new benchmark in experiential luxury. For the first time, the globally acclaimed Buddha-Bar brand is extending its influence from cosmopolitan interiors to the open sea, transforming its celebrated atmosphere of rhythm and refinement into a destination unlike any other.

Floating gracefully across the turquoise waters of The World Islands, the project embodies everything that defines BuddhaBar — artistry, ambience, and an immersive sensory experience. Currently, one model unit of the Floating Residences has been completed, with the remaining 23 residences

under construction. Each of the 24 adjoining villas is being engineered with advanced marine technology, designed to glide above the water’s surface while coexisting in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem. Completion is on track for 2027, an ambitious milestone that reflects the project’s precision and pace.

“Dubai has always been a city that embraces vision, scale, and creativity — and this project captures all three,” says Carlos A Matta, CEO, Buddha-Bar Hotel. “It’s not just a collection of homes or a hotel; it’s an experience carefully orchestrated to engage all the senses, reflecting the spirit of Buddha-Bar in every wave, light, and sound.”

Construction Strategy: Building Serenity Above Water

At its core, the Buddha-Bar Floating Residences project represents an intricate dance between engineering and artistry. The construction strategy integrates advanced marine engineering with sustainable design principles, ensuring that each structure remains stable, durable, and environmentally attuned. Every floating residence is anchored using a precisioncalibrated pontoon system designed to withstand wave dynamics and tidal variations while preserving the delicate marine ecosystem beneath.

The development team employs modular off-site fabrication, allowing components to be manufactured under controlled conditions for superior quality and reduced waste. These prefabricated modules are then assembled on-site using specialised marine cranes and precision alignment systems, a process that minimises environmental disruption and accelerates construction timelines.

Careful material selection further underscores the project’s commitment to performance and longevity. From corrosion-resistant marine-grade steel to lightweight composite panels, every element is designed to endure coastal weather while maintaining a sense of warmth and refinement. The result is a symphony of technical ingenuity and craftsmanship, a structure that floats effortlessly yet stands firmly as a testament to innovation.

Blending marine innovation with refined design, the Buddha-Bar Floating Residences bring the brand’s legendary atmosphere of rhythm and elegance to Dubai’s World Islands.

Each residence is conceived as a sanctuary rather than a structure. Over 200 specialists in architecture, engineering, and design have devoted more than 13,000 hours to perfecting the floating villas. Spanning 4,000 square feet across three levels, they feature a rooftop deck with a jacuzzi and dining lounge, a sea-level living space with floor-to-ceiling glazing, and an underwater suite framed by coral gardens. Optional Bentley Home furnishings, tactile woods, veined stone, and maritime glass complete the interior — a seamless blend of quiet opulence and oceanic calm.

“Buddha-Bar Hotel and Floating Residences at The World Islands is a breakthrough for our brand,” says Nabil Souhail, Vice President of Buddha-Bar International. “This project is a convergence of our DNA – music, mood, and magic – with next-level hospitality design. Guests will be transported into a new dimension of sensory luxury.”

The destination will also feature the region’s first BuddhaBar Hotel with 162 keys, a floor of branded residences, and the signature Buddha-Bar Beach, which is set to become the social heart of The World Islands. Guests can expect sunrise yoga, daytime brunches, and sunset sessions that dissolve into nights curated by world-class DJs. With landscaped pools, private cabanas, and panoramic Gulf views, the venue captures barefoot Mediterranean elegance through the Buddha-Bar lens.

The master plan balances privacy with accessibility, orienting villas for sunset and skyline views while employing solar-optimised façades and passive cooling. Every aspect, from spatial zoning to soundscapes, has been orchestrated to sustain both tranquillity and exclusivity.

Official sales will launch in December 2025, offering investors an opportunity to own part of an unprecedented development first unveiled at the Arabian Travel Market 2025. Progress remains firmly on schedule, ensuring that delivery meets the promise of quality and innovation synonymous with the brand.

“Partnering on the launch of the first Buddha-Bar Hotel and Floating Residences by Buddha-Bar on The World Islands represents a defining moment for experiential real estate in the region,” adds Mohamad Issa, Founder of Yieldhaüs. “Our mission is to connect discerning investors with projects that transcend traditional property and become living works of art — and this collaboration perfectly embodies that philosophy.”

From music to materials, the Buddha-Bar Floating Residences are more than a feat of design; they’re a composition of elegance, energy, and emotion. Every detail has been tuned to rhythm and restraint, creating a floating symphony that captures the essence of Dubai itself — bold, beautiful, and ever evolving.

LIVING

THE RECENT COLLABORATION BETWEEN ARADA AND TASHAS GROUP BEAUTIFULLY MIRRORS THE UAE’S EVOLVING NARRATIVE OF COMMUNITY LIVING — ONE THAT KEEPS PACE WITH THE NATION’S DYNAMIC GROWTH STORY.

Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada, and Natasha Sideris, Founder and CEO of Tashas Group, reveal how their collaboration is set to redefine the boundaries of community living and dining, setting new benchmarks for lifestyle excellence across the UAE. The partnership builds upon Arada’s

long-standing vision of creating communities that transcend the concept of housing. Since its inception, the developer has redefined urban living through destinations like Aljada and Masaar, where F&B, retail, culture, wellness, and lush green spaces are seamlessly woven into the master plan. Each development is designed not merely to be lived in, but to be experienced, felt, and celebrated every day.

The joint venture with Tashas Group elevates this philosophy, introducing refined dining concepts that serve as social landmarks within Arada’s communities. It also mirrors the ongoing evolution of the UAE’s property landscape, where the focus has shifted from simple residential delivery to lifestyle-driven placemaking— shaping neighbourhoods with soul, character, and a distinct sense of belonging.

Arada is positioning its developments as lifestyle-first communities. How central is F&B in creating emotional connection and long-term loyalty within these master plans? Food is incredibly powerful in building connections. It's where families gather, where friends meet, where communities are formed. If you think about loyalty, people might buy a home once, but they’ll return to a restaurant or cafe dozens of times a year. So yes, F&B is central because it helps create that emotional stickiness, it turns a neighbourhood into a community.

The partnership with Tashas Group enhances this vision by bringing refined dining concepts that become social anchors within Arada’s communities.

The UAE’s property market has evolved from residential-led models to integrated lifestyle destinations. How are dining experiences redefining what people expect from where they live?

Dubai’s property market is becoming increasingly hyper-local, with residential communities evolving into full lifestyle destinations. Developers like Arada are integrating health, wellness, and leisure into their projects, which naturally shapes dining expectations. Restaurants in these areas need to reflect that lifestyle by offering menus with health-conscious options and convenience at their core.

At tashas in Arada’s Aljada development in Sharjah, for example, our “Inspired By” menu will be created with nearby students in mind, featuring fast, balanced and more price-conscious dishes suited to their routine. Convenience is now a major factor, and restaurants must cater to early risers and late diners alike.

With growing populations and traffic congestion, people want everything within reach. Communities such as Aljada are being transformed into self-contained ecosystems with diverse dining choices from cafés and bakeries to Asian, Arabic and Italian concepts,

ensuring residents no longer need to travel far for quality food experiences.

We’re seeing a convergence of property, wellness, culture, and gastronomy. How is Arada integrating these elements to future-proof its developments against shifting market trends?

For us, it’s about integrating these elements together from day one. Take Aljada, for example, it’s not just about homes, but about creating a

complete community, with a vibrant retail boulevard, wellness and fitness facilities and now premium dining experiences. By integrating these elements from the planning stage, we future-proof our developments. No matter how lifestyle trends evolve, people will always value places where they can live well, eat well, stay active and feel part of a community that has its own energy and character.

As the line between residential, retail, and recreation continues to blur, how do you see the role of the developer evolving in shaping not just homes, but entire social ecosystems?

The role of the developer today is about much more than building homes. At Arada, we see our communities as carefully designed environments where every element, homes, open spaces, cultural spots and leisure areas work together to create a sense of belonging. Thoughtful design helps people interact and feel proud to call a place home. It’s about creating neighborhoods that support real lives, where people don’t just live, but truly belong.

Building more than homes — Arada is crafting social ecosystems where people live, dine, connect, and truly belong.

THAT EMBODY LUXURY

With nearly three decades of design excellence, Helen Bygraves, Creative Director / Joint Managing Director, and Jenny Weiss, Joint Managing Director of Hill House Interiors, have built a legacy defined by craftsmanship, innovation, and elegance. From London to Dubai, theirdirector-ledapproach and refined aesthetic continue to shape the world of luxury interiors.

What inspired the creation of Hill House Interiors, and how has your journey shaped its signature style?

HELEN: Hill House Interiors began with our friendship and a shared love for creating beautiful spaces. We met in the ’90s and quickly realised we had the same creative instincts and values. What started as a passion project has evolved into something much bigger—not just interior design, but a complete lifestyle brand. We now have our own collection of furniture, rugs, cushions, and trimmings, exciting collaborations, and an office in Dubai to support our international clients.

JENNY: The world keeps evolving—and so do we. With 28 years of experience in interiors

and construction, we’re still learning, growing, and pushing boundaries every day. Our talented team reflects that spirit: 42 creative minds in the UK and 12 in Dubai, all driving innovation and excellence across everything we do. But no matter how far we expand, we always return to what defines us—the Hill House signature style: timeless, luxurious, and elegant.

How do you capture a client’s personality while maintaining the brand’s sense of luxury and refinement?

HELEN: It all begins with communication—specifically, listening. During consultations and throughout the design process, we take the time to understand our clients on every level, building relationships that go beyond the brief. This allows us to interpret their vision and elevate it beyond expectations.

JENNY: As Helen mentioned, our clients come to Hill House Interiors because they’re drawn to our distinctive style—elegant, layered, and luxuriously refined. But what truly sets us apart is our versatility. Whether it’s a sleek, ultra-contemporary penthouse or a stately country manor steeped in tradition, we have the creative agility to adapt while still weaving in our signature sophistication. We curate spaces that reflect each client’s personality, while elevating them with our design

DNA: timeless luxury, thoughtful detail, and a touch of the unexpected.

How do you balance opulence with sustainability and responsible material choices?

JENNY: Sustainability is woven into our design philosophy.

HELEN: Yes, wherever possible, we reuse existing high-quality pieces to avoid unnecessary waste. A great example is our work at Atlantis The Royal Residences, where the joinery was structurally sound but didn’t align visually with the new scheme. Instead of replacing it, we collaborated with specialist artisans to transform it with a new finish that complemented the overall design. We also design with longevity in mind—selecting timeless, well-crafted pieces that stand the test of time and don’t need replacing.

JENNY: We also work closely

with suppliers who share our values. Many of the textiles we use are crafted from recycled materials and packaged responsibly, and we actively seek out manufacturers who meet rigorous sustainability standards. It’s a conscious balance—creating spaces that feel indulgent and refined, while honouring the planet and the principles of thoughtful design.

In what ways is Hill House Interiors using technology to enhance design and client experience?

JENNY: We’re passionate about blending timeless design with cutting-edge technology to elevate the client experience.

With a dedicated team of inhouse CGI specialists, we bring spaces to life before a single cushion is placed—allowing clients to step into their future home through photorealistic visuals that capture every detail.

HELEN: Technology plays a subtle yet powerful role in our projects. We integrate hidden systems that ensure homes run seamlessly—from AI that predicts temperature changes based on resident profiles to concealed AV systems that cast music throughout the space. Lighting scenes are particularly impactful, allowing us to create customised ambiences for every occasion, whether it’s a quiet evening or entertaining

guests. Motorised blinds and other smart features further enhance the experience—all while remaining discreet.

JENNY: We’re committed to staying ahead of the curve, which means continuous training for our team and a proactive approach to emerging tools and trends. In a fast-evolving industry, innovation isn’t optional—it’s essential. And for us, it’s another way to deliver design that’s not only beautiful but brilliantly executed.

What sets Hill House Interiors apart in today’s competitive global luxury market?

HELEN: Our director-led approach ensures consistency and vision at every stage of the design journey. Both of us are hands-on with each project, which is rare in today’s market. We also champion luxury craftsmanship, having spent nearly three decades curating a trusted network of artisans

and specialists. This black book of talent allows us to deliver superior products and finishes that are truly world-class and unique.

JENNY: What truly sets Hill House Interiors apart in today’s global luxury market is our unwavering commitment to relationships and refinement. Our reputation speaks through our repeat clients, who often recommend us to their friends and family—an incredible compliment. We’ve cultivated a distinct design language that resonates deeply with those who appreciate elegance, comfort, and creativity. But beyond our aesthetic, it’s our dynamic, multi-talented team that makes the magic happen. We thrive in a fast-paced environment, bringing energy, expertise, and passion to every space we touch. From concept to completion, we’re dedicated to crafting awardwinning interiors that feel as dreamy as they look—spaces that are not only beautiful but deeply personal.

What’s next for Hill House Interiors—any exciting projects or new directions on the horizon?

HELEN: We’re diving into new collaborations, pushing creative boundaries, and continuing to grow internationally. Our team thrives on innovation and imagination, and we’re always dreaming bigger. So, watch this space—what’s coming next is truly exciting!

JENNY: The future looks incredibly vibrant for us at Hill House. Since opening our Dubai studio three years ago, we’ve been steadily expanding our global footprint. With a portfolio of exciting projects on the horizon and a constant flow of fresh ideas being explored behind the scenes, there’s a real buzz in the air.

infinity DESIGNING BEYOND

Pratap Mendonca, Managing Partner of Design Infinity, shares how his architectural background shapes his leadership, approach to technology, and commitment to sustainability in the UAE’s evolving interior design and fit-out sector.

How has your background in architecture influenced your approach to leadership and business strategy within the interior design and construction industries?

My background in architecture has shaped the way I lead and build strategy—it has given me a holistic view of how design, functionality, and business objectives connect. I approach leadership the same way I approach design: with attention to detail, creativity, and balance. It has helped me align our company’s vision with both design excellence and operational efficiency, ensuring that every project is functional and commercially successful.

In your experience, what role does technology play in transforming interior design and construction practices today?

Technology has truly changed the way we work in interior design and construction. Tools such as 3D visualisation, BIM, and project management software enable us to plan more accurately and identify potential issues early. They also help us deliver high-quality projects faster and more efficiently.

In an industry that constantly evolves, how do you stay ahead of emerging design trends while balancing client expectations and sustainability considerations?

Staying ahead requires continuous learning and a keen eye for global design and fit-out standards. We combine research, inspiration from international projects, and close collaboration with clients to ensure each design and fit-out remains contemporary and aligned with the client’s vision. At the same time, we prioritise sustainability—selecting materials and solutions that are environmentally responsible without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

How do you ensure that sustainability and environmental responsibility are incorporated into your projects without compromising on aesthetics?

For us, sustainability isn’t an add-on— it’s integrated into the design and fitout process from day one. We encourage our clients to choose eco-friendly materials, aim for LEED certification, and opt for energy-efficient, responsibly sourced products—all while ensuring the space looks beautiful and performs seamlessly.

How do you cultivate a cohesive company culture across such a large and diverse team, ensuring that your core values are reflected in every project? For me, the team is everything. I focus on creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to do their best. By nurturing collaboration and keeping our core values at the heart of everything we do, we ensure that each project reflects not only our company’s vision but also the dedication and passion of every team member.

With such diverse interests across design and construction, how do you maintain focus and align your different businesses toward a shared vision? I make sure everything begins with a clear vision and goal. Strong communication, transparent objectives, and teamwork are essential. For me, it’s about ensuring every division of the business works towards one unified aim—delivering outstanding results for our clients.

Looking forward, what innovations or shifts do you foresee in the UAE’s interior design and fit-out landscape, and how is Design Infinity preparing to adapt to these changes?

The UAE’s interior design scene is evolving rapidly, with a growing emphasis on blending luxury, sustainability, and local heritage. We’re seeing materials like rammed earth and date palm wood making a comeback, and at Design Infinity, we’re embracing these trends in our projects. It’s about creating spaces that feel modern and innovative, yet environmentally responsible and deeply meaningful for our clients.
