Thomas’s Journey to F1000: From Karting to the Fast Lane

Thomas began his racing journey at the tender age of six, starting in karting, which was just a bit of fun at first. But things quickly escalated as his talent behind the wheel became evident, with Thomas going on to win races and championships. His skills propelled him through the ranks, and before long, he found himself qualifying for the prestigious world finals in Le Mans.

However, when he turned 18, Thomas fell out of love with karting and decided to step back from racing. During this break, he evaluated his options, considering various formulas before ultimately landing on the F1000 Championship in 2022. F1000 o ered the perfect blend of high-octane racing and a ordability, a crucial factor given the financial realities of motorsport.
The Challenges of Motorsport
Cost & Sponsorship
In motorsport, the challenge isn't just mastering the car or the track but also navigating the financial demands. From karting to F1000, costs can be staggering, and this is where sponsorship plays a vital role in helping a driver progress through the ranks. Thomas has support from NGK Spark Plugs, which supplies him with the spark plugs needed for his car. However, this alone won't be enough to achieve his ultimate goals in racing.
While F1000 is more a ordable than other single-seater championships—which can cost upwards of £250,000 for a season—competing still requires significant funding. Thomas and his team know that additional sponsorship is crucial to continuing climbing the motorsport ladder.
Memorable Moments in F1000
Thomas's debut year in the F1000 Championship was nothing short of impressive. In 2022, during the Snetterton race, he achieved a standout 4th-place finish. Given the competitive nature of the championship, this was a significant milestone in his career and a moment he won't soon forget. Finishing just shy of the podium in his first season was a testament to his skill and his team's hard work, proving that he has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
The A ordability of F1000
The most striking di erence between F1000 and other single-seater championships is its a ordability. While some racing series demand massive budgets to participate, the F1000 o ers a more accessible entry point into competitive motorsport. Thomas and his team chose F1000 because, unlike the prohibitive costs of other championships, they could realistically manage the financial requirements.
Even with its relative a ordability, the racing is no less thrilling. Jedi Race Cars' F1000 cars are technologically advanced machines designed to maximise performance. From fuel mixture settings based on air pressure and temperature to precision engineering on car-specific parts, the technology behind F1000 cars allows for cutting-edge racing without the astronomical price tag.

The racing simulator not only helps him master the track but also saves precious time during practice sessions. Fitness is also crucial, as the g-forces experienced in F1000 racing demand that drivers maintain good physical conditioning. However, with races lasting only 15 minutes and three races across a weekend, the physical strain is balanced with the quick-paced nature of the event.
Once at the track, it's all about teamwork. From the meticulous preparation in the workshop to the transport of equipment and last-minute adjustments on race day, the success of a race weekend relies heavily on communication between the driver and the team. Every practice session is an opportunity to fine-tune the car, ensuring it's performing at its best when it matters most.
Eyes on the Prize Winning the Championship
For Thomas, the ultimate goal in F1000 is clear: Win races and eventually win the championship. But the journey doesn't stop there. With enough sponsorship, the next step would be to progress into Formula 3, a dream Thomas has had since his early days in karting. The road ahead is challenging, but with hard work, talent, and the proper support, the path to Formula 3 is within reach.
Race Day Adrenaline
Drivers
Thomas o ers simple advice for those considering a step into F1000: "Try a test day." Whether you're starting your motorsport career or looking to move up from another formula, a test day is the perfect way to get a feel for the speed and the thrill of F1000. It's not for everyone, but for most, it'll leave you with a smile. "You won't find anything this fast for the money you pay," he says, highlighting F1000's unique balance of performance and a ordability.
Thomas's journey through motorsport, from karting prodigy to F1000 competitor, is a story of passion, perseverance, and the quest for progress.

Like many racers, Thomas experiences a mix of nerves and excitement on the starting grid. Footage from his races often shows his hands fidgeting with anticipation before the lights go out, a visible sign

Why Foot Health Matters
Foot health is often overlooked but critical to our overall well-being. Mersey Footcare o ers services designed to keep your feet healthy, particularly for seniors or those with mobility issues. In this interview, we chat with the team about why foot care is so critical and what steps you can take to protect your feet.
Why is foot care so important, especially for older people?
"As we age, our feet go through a lot of wear and tear. Simple activities like walking can become more challenging when foot health is neglected. Unfortunately, many people don't realise the importance of regular foot care until they're experiencing pain. For older people, this can lead to a loss of mobility and even impact their quality of life. Foot problems, such as ingrown toenails, corns, or fungal infections, are often treatable. Still, if left unchecked, they can make walking di cult or even standing comfortably. Regular foot care can keep these issues at bay, allowing older individuals to stay active and independent."

An Interview with Mersey Footcare
What are the most common foot problems you see?
"The most common problems we treat include fungal nail infections, verrucae, ingrown toenails, corns, and calluses. These conditions can cause significant discomfort but are easily treatable when addressed early. One of our most satisfying experiences is helping someone su ering from an ingrown toenail. After a 45-minute treatment, they can often walk away pain-free. Seeing that immediate relief is advantageous."
Can you share some tips on how people can better care of their feet at home?
"Foot care doesn't need to be complicated. Here are a few simple tips to keep your feet in great shape”
Check your feet regularly

Look for changes in the skin, nails, or overall appearance. This can help you spot issues early before they become painful.
Wear the right shoes
Make sure your shoes fit well and provide proper support. Wearing ill-fitting shoes is one of the biggest causes of foot problems like corns and calluses.
Moisturise daily
Keeping your feet hydrated is vital to preventing dry, cracked skin. A good foot cream, especially one with urea, can make a huge di erence.
Mersey Footcare – A Family-Run Business
Mersey Footcare is a local, family-run business providing quality foot care in the comfort of your own home. We treat everything from fungal nail infections to verrucae, ingrown toenails, corns, and calluses. Our goal is simple: to bring the gold standard of foot care directly to you. Foot care is so important, yet sadly, it's often forgotten until there's pain. That's where we come in. It is gratifying to relieve someone from the excruciating pain of an ingrown toenail or a corn and see them walk pain-free just 45 minutes later.
Sharing the Knowledge
At Mersey Footcare, we don't just treat the problem—we aim to educate our patients. A small change in routine can often resolve persistent foot issues. For example, a urea-based cream can help you say goodbye to calluses. Similarly, teaching someone how to properly cut their nails can prevent recurring ingrown toenails. Empowering our patients with knowledge is key to maintaining long-term foot health.
If in Doubt, Seek Advice
If you're experiencing foot pain and it's getting worse, always seek advice. Footcare can also reveal other medical issues. A lot can be gleaned from having your feet checked, from diabetes to problems with circulation, so again, it's a great place to start trying to improve one's general health.
Standing Out from the Crowd
We pride ourselves on o ering a thorough, professional service every time. We don't just rush through appointments; our sessions are a generous 45 minutes long, allowing us to adequately address and improve the condition of your feet. We also love sharing our knowledge and motivating our patients to make small changes that significantly improve their foot health.
Round up
Foot health is vital to your overall well-being, and Mersey Footcare is here to help. Whether you're struggling with an ingrown toenail or need routine maintenance, our team is ready to provide top-notch

Foot Care and Well-being

What we do is simple, yet it has a profound impact on our patients' well-being. Good foot care is an "easy win" that can dramatically improve your life. Many older individuals we see have neglected their feet for so long that even lying in bed becomes uncomfortable. After a general foot care appointment, the relief they feel is amazing, and it's one of the reasons we're so passionate about what we do.
The care and treatment you deserve

Please call Anna at Mersey Foot Care on 07519404157 to make an appointment with one of our fully qualified Foot Health practitioners, or send us a message. Our team members are all fully qualified Level 4 Foot Health Practitioners, listed on the Accredited Register of Foot Health Practitioners, and fully insured.
Our Top Tip:
We advise switching to a foot cream containing 25% urea, which is the antidote to problematic skin and calluses. You'll notice your feet looking and feeling better in no time!

Shining a Light on Inclusion: The Story of Lumiere Charity
Founded in February 2024, Lumiere Charity is a beacon of hope and support for children and young adults with disabilities. Inspired by one family's journey, the charity is dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment where every child can thrive, play, and build con dence without fear of judgment.
In this interview with Launchpad Magazine, we spoke with the founders of Lumiere to learn more about the charity’s beginnings, its mission, and the incredible work they’re doing to support the community.
Can you share the founding story of Lumiere Charity? What inspired the creation of this organisation?
Lumiere Charity was founded just seven months ago, in February 2024, and it all started with a beautiful little boy named Jaxon. Jaxon, my sister’s son, has faced numerous challenges since birth. He spent much of his first year and a half in the hospital due to severe health complications, including recurrent pneumonia and developmental delays.

Despite countless tests, my sister could not get clear answers about his condition until a specialist genetic doctor at Great Ormond Street Hospital diagnosed him with Kabuki Syndrome—a rare genetic disorder that a ects 1 in 32,000 children.
Jaxon’s diagnosis explained many of his struggles, from feeding di culties that required a feeding peg to his developmental milestones being delayed. This year, Jaxon underwent open heart surgery to repair an atrial septal defect (ASD), a condition linked to his syndrome. Despite these challenges, Jaxon is a fighter—he proudly shows o his “Warrior Scar” and now attends a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school.
Social settings have been particularly di cult for Jaxon. Play centres can be overwhelming, and sometimes other children don’t understand his needs, leaving him without friends to play with. These experiences inspired the creation of Lumiere Charity—a space where children like Jaxon can play, learn, and build friendships in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Our mission is simple but profound: to ensure children with disabilities, regardless of their challenges, have a place to progress, gain confidence, and just be themselves.

Lumiere has just secured its first building. Can you tell us more about this space and your future plans?
We are beyond excited to announce that we’ve secured our very first building—an expansive 4,100 square-foot space that is bursting with potential! Every time we step inside, we’re filled with excitement, knowing that this will soon be a place filled with laughter, creativity, and joy for children with disabilities. This building symbolises so much more than just walls—it represents our commitment to giving children and young adults with disabilities a safe and supportive environment to flourish.
Our vision for this space includes:
A Sensory Room, where children can relax and explore their senses in a calming, safe environment.
A Soft Play Area, perfect for free play and social interactions.
A Games Room where children and teens can enjoy activities that stimulate both mind and body.
In addition to providing a fun and supportive environment, we are thrilled to announce that Lumiere will o er employability programs for young adults aged 18 to 25 with neurodivergent needs. These programs will help them transition into the workforce with confidence, providing valuable skills and support as they navigate this critical stage of life. As a family, we’ve often wondered what Jaxon’s future will look like in terms of work and whether his needs will be met in a workplace environment. These programs are designed to ensure young adults like Jaxon have the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
We also plan to o er outreach services for families, providing them with resources, guidance, and the opportunity to be part of a community that understands and uplifts them. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to build a brighter future for every child and young adult who walks through our doors.
How does Lumiere Charity ensure that its resources and donations reach those who need them the most, especially in underserved areas?
At Lumiere Charity, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive support from a community that believes in our mission. From the start, we made it a priority to focus on grassroots e orts, ensuring that our funds and resources directly benefit those who need them most. The community is the heart of everything we do.
One of our first initiatives was when local firefighters ran a half marathon in support of Lumiere. Their dedication not only raised much-needed funds but also brought awareness to our cause. We’ve had tremendous support, including a local football tournament and a walk from Liverpool’s iconic Liver Building to the Palace of Westminster—an ambitious fundraiser that came to life within just two weeks.
Thanks to these e orts, we’ve been able to purchase essential equipment for our building, including games for the Games Room, sensory tools for the Sensory Room, and materials for the Soft Play Area. We are thrilled to share that we’ve just been awarded a £2,000 grant for additional equipment, which is a testament to
the incredible support we’ve received from our donors and stakeholders.
Our financial management is diligent. Every penny raised is carefully tracked to ensure it’s allocated where it’s needed most. While we still have a long way to go to complete the building, the ongoing support from the community fills us with hope and excitement for what we can achieve together.
What role do volunteers play within the charity, and how can people get involved in supporting Lumiere’s e orts?
Volunteers are truly the backbone of Lumiere Charity. Their contributions are invaluable, and we are proud to welcome volunteers from all walks of life. Recently, we partnered with a local alternative educational school that has provided 10 young adults to assist with renovating our building. This partnership is particularly exciting because it encourages younger generations to get involved in community work, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion.
In addition to renovation support, we’ve had volunteers from the local community and sta from Tiber Street assist at events, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. We also o er a variety of volunteer roles, including marketing, social media, play area support, cleaning, and public relations. Additionally, we’re always on the lookout for volunteers with skills in play therapy, music, or art-based activities, as these are integral to the services we o er to the children.
We are especially proud to have welcomed Siobhan, a dedicated volunteer with 18 years of experience as a social worker. She is now supporting Lumiere in Human Resources and is committed to enhancing our team’s well-being and growth.
If you’re interested in volunteering, you can send your CV and a brief note about your areas of interest to info@lumierecharity.org. We are always eager to welcome new members to the Lumiere family, and together, we can create a brighter future for children like Jaxon.

Winter-Proof Your Home: Expert Tips from DDWilson Plumbing & Heating to Stay Warm & Save Money
As the cold winter months approach, ensuring that your home’s plumbing and heating systems are in top condition is essential. With energy prices rising in the UK, even the most minor issue can lead to costly breakdowns and increased heating bills. At DDWilson Plumbing & Heating, we understand the importance of keeping your home warm, e cient, and problem-free throughout the winter. That’s why we’ve put together expert tips and services to help you winter-proof your house. From comprehensive boiler servicing to smart thermostats, we o er everything you need to ensure your heating system runs smoothly, e ciently, and reliably, no matter how cold it gets outside.
Keep Your Boiler Running E ciently
Your boiler is the heart of your heating system. With increased demand in winter, the strain on your boiler grows, making regular maintenance critical to avoiding breakdowns when you need warmth the most.
Why Boiler Maintenance Matters
A well-maintained boiler is not only more reliable but also more energy-e cient. According to The

Energy Saving Trust, regular servicing can reduce energy consumption by up to 15%—a considerable saving when the average UK household spends around £1,200 a year on heating. A regularly serviced boiler operates more smoothly, reducing the risk of costly repairs.
At DD Wilson, our Gas Safe registered engineers conduct comprehensive boiler servicing, checking everything from pressure levels to ventilation to ensure your system runs safely and e ciently.
The Soaring Cost of Energy in the UK
Energy prices in the UK have surged by nearly 50% over the past year, with the average household spending around £900 to £1,200 per year just on heating. An older, ine cient boiler is a significant contributor to those high costs.
Did You Know?
A boiler over ten years old operates at only 60% to 70% e ciency, meaning a large portion of your energy bill is wasted on lost heat. On the other hand, new boilers operate at over 90% e ciency, saving you hundreds of pounds annually on your energy bills.
Insulate Your Pipes and Prevent Freezing
Frozen pipes are one of the most common winter plumbing issues. When pipes freeze, the water inside expands, leading to burst pipes, flooding, and costly repairs. Insulating your pipes can prevent these problems. DD Wilson o ers expert pipe insulation services using high-quality materials to protect your pipes from freezing temperatures. We ensure all pipes, especially those in unheated areas like attics and garages, are well-insulated.
The Cost of Frozen Pipes
A burst pipe can cause severe water damage, costing homeowners between £500 and £2,000 to repair. Insulating your pipes is a much smaller investment and can save you from these unexpected expenses.
Pro Tip:
Focus on insulating exposed pipes in colder areas of your home. Even minimal insulation can make a big di erence in preventing freezing during the coldest months.

Bleed Your Radiators for Maximum E ciency
Have you noticed that parts of your radiators are cold, even when the heating is on? Trapped air could be the problem. Bleeding your radiators releases this air and helps your heating system run more e ciently.
At DD Wilson, we o er radiator bleeding services to keep your heating system running at total capacity. This simple maintenance task can improve your home’s warmth and reduce energy consumption.
Save on Your Heating Bills
According to British Gas, bleeding your radiators can increase your heating e ciency by up to 20%, helping you stay warmer and lower your energy bills.
Did You Know?
Cold spots on radiators can also indicate a buildup of sludge. We o er power flushing services to remove this sludge and boost the performance of your heating system.
Upgrade to an Energy-E cient Boiler
If your boiler is over a decade old, it could drive up your energy bills. Upgrading to a modern, energy-e cient boiler can significantly reduce your heating costs and carbon footprint.
Why Upgrade?
Older boilers waste 30% to 40% of energy, whereas newer models operate at over 90% e ciency. According to The Energy Saving Trust, upgrading to an A-rated boiler can save you up to £315 a year on your heating bills. At DD Wilson, we specialise in installing the latest Strom Electric Combi Boilers, which are known for their e ciency and low maintenance requirements. Plus, with our 0% APR finance options, upgrading to a new boiler is more a ordable than ever.
Stay Ahead of Rising Energy Costs in 2024
With UK energy costs expected to rise further, reaching over £2,000 annually for the average household, upgrading to an energy-e cient heating system is more important than ever. A new boiler can help o set rising costs and provide long-term savings.
A(Rated) Fact:
Switching from a G-rated boiler to an A-rated one can reduce your carbon footprint by around 1.5 tonnes of CO2 per year—the equivalent of taking a small car o the road.
Emergency Call-Out Services
A broken boiler or burst pipe can cause chaos in the middle of winter. Fortunately, DD Wilson Plumbing & Heating o ers 24/7 emergency plumbing and heating services, so you’ll never be left in the cold. Our expert team is always on hand to tackle any issue, no matter the time.
The Importance of Quick Action
When temperatures drop, time is critical. A burst pipe or broken boiler can cause extensive damage if not dealt with immediately. Our emergency services are designed to minimise disruption and quickly restore your home’s heating.

Did You Know?
Most insurance policies require immediate action to prevent further damage in emergencies like burst pipes. A plumber on-call can help you avoid delays and meet your insurer’s requirements.
Smart Thermostat Installation for E cient Control
Smart thermostats have revolutionised home heating, allowing you to control your heating remotely and ensure maximum e ciency. At DD Wilson, we install Nest, Hive, and other smart thermostats, which can reduce your energy bills by up to £150 per year by optimising your heating schedule.
With smart thermostats, you can program your heating to turn on just before you arrive home, ensuring you’re always comfortable while reducing energy waste.
Winter can be harsh, but by preparing your home now, you can avoid costly breakdowns and keep your energy bills in check. Whether you need boiler servicing, radiator repairs, or a complete heating system upgrade, DD Wilson Plumbing & Heating is here to help. Don’t wait until it’s too late—get in touch today and winter-proof your home with expert care.

The Fireplace Centre: Stylish & Sustainable Heating Options for Every Home

The Fireplace Centre has been leading the way in providing homeowners across Liverpool with fireplaces that strike the perfect balance between style and sustainability. As more people become conscious of their environmental impact, there's a growing demand for eco-friendly home heating solutions that don’t sacrifice aesthetics.
Whether you’re looking for the charm of a traditional fireplace or the sleek elegance of a modern design, The Fireplace Centre has options for every home and lifestyle.
In this Q&A, Launchpad Magazine speaks
with James Murray, Director of The Fireplace Centre, about the latest trends, customer preferences, and the store's unique approach to combining style, function, and sustainability.
Q: What sets The Fireplace Centre apart from other retailers in the region?
What really sets us apart is our commitment to personalised service. Every home is di erent, and we believe that every fireplace should reflect that uniqueness. Our approach is to work closely with each customer, helping them find the perfect fireplace that fits their home’s design, budget, and heating needs. We o er a wide range of options, from traditional wood-burning stoves to cutting-edge electric fireplaces. This allows us to cater to a broad spectrum of tastes and requirements.
Another thing that distinguishes us is our team. Our sta are highly trained experts who are always on hand to o er advice and guidance. We don’t just sell fireplaces—we help manage the entire process, from design to installation, ensuring our customers enjoy a seamless, hassle-free experience. That full-service approach is something our customers really appreciate.
Q: What trends are you seeing in fireplaces right now? Are there any particular styles or features that are growing in popularity?
We’ve definitely noticed an increasing demand for energy-e cient and eco-friendly options. Homeowners are becoming more mindful of their energy consumption, especially with rising energy costs and a greater focus on reducing carbon footprints. Electric and gas fireplaces that feature smart technology are really gaining traction. These models allow users to control their heating via smartphone apps or integrate with smart home systems, o ering both convenience and energy savings.
From a design perspective, we’re seeing a lot of interest in minimalist, sleek styles. Customers are drawn to frameless designs with clean lines that fit seamlessly into modern interiors. On the other hand, there’s still a strong demand for traditional fireplaces, particularly those that mix rustic elements with modern functionality—something that o ers the best of both worlds.
Q: Can you walk us through the process of helping a customer choose the perfect fireplace for their home?
Absolutely! It all starts with understanding the customer’s vision. We take the time to ask about their home’s interior style, their heating preferences, and their budget. Once we have a clear idea of what they’re looking for, we guide them through our showroom, showing them a range of options that match their needs.
We also educate our customers about the di erent fuel types—whether they prefer the tradition of a wood-burning fireplace, the convenience of gas, or the eco-friendliness of electric or bioethanol options. We help them understand the benefits and installation requirements of each choice.
Aesthetics play a big role too. Once we’ve narrowed down the functional options, we focus on finding a design that complements their home’s interior. The final step is managing the installation process. Our team handles everything to ensure the fireplace is installed safely and e ciently, allowing the customer to enjoy their new fireplace right away.
Q: Are there any new or exclusive products that customers should be excited about this season?
Yes, we’re really excited about some of the new additions to our range this season. One of the standout o erings is a new line of electric fireplaces that feature advanced flame technology. These models o er incredibly realistic flames without the need for a chimney or ventilation, and they come with customisable lighting options, allowing users to adjust the flame colours to suit their mood or decor. They’ve been a big hit with customers who want a modern, versatile fireplace.
We’ve also introduced a new range of bio-ethanol fireplaces. These are eco-friendly, producing no smoke, ash, or soot, which makes them perfect for customers who are looking for an environmentally conscious option that still delivers on style and warmth.
Additionally, we’ve got some exclusive promotions running on our gas fireplaces, including discounted installation packages, which we think will be hard to beat this season.
Q: Sustainability is becoming a bigger consideration for homeowners. How does The Fireplace Centre approach eco-friendly fireplace solutions?
Sustainability is something we take very seriously. Many of the products we o er are designed with energy e ciency in mind, helping homeowners reduce their carbon footprint while enjoying a beautiful fireplace. For example, our high-e ciency wood-burning stoves are designed to burn cleaner and produce more heat using less wood, making them a great option for those who want a traditional fireplace with lower emissions. Electric fireplaces are also a fantastic choice for those wanting a zero-emission heating solution. They provide heat without producing any harmful gases, and with modern

technology, they look just as visually appealing as a traditional fire. Our bioethanol fireplaces are another eco-friendly option—using renewable fuel, they’re completely smoke-free and odourless, so they’re great for the environment and the home.
We’re always on the lookout for the latest innovations in green technology, and we’re committed to o ering the most sustainable solutions in the fireplace industry.
Q: What advice would you give to someone looking to upgrade their fireplace but unsure of where to start?
The first thing I’d recommend is thinking about what you really want from your fireplace. Are you looking for something primarily for warmth, for the aesthetic appeal, or a combination of both? Once you have a clear idea of what you want, the next step is to consider the space where the fireplace will go. Some fireplaces need more structural work than others, so it’s important to understand what’s possible within your home. If you’re not sure, we o er on-site consultations to help with that.
Fuel options are another key consideration. Wood-burning fireplaces are great for that cosy, traditional feel, but they require more maintenance. Electric and gas fireplaces, on the other hand, are more convenient and can be more energy-e cient. Once you’ve narrowed down these factors, choosing a design and style becomes easier. Our team is always available to provide expert advice and guide customers through the process.
Q: Looking ahead, what’s
next
for The Fireplace Centre? Any upcoming plans or exciting projects in the works?
We’re always looking for ways to innovate and expand our o erings. We’ve noticed an increasing trend in customers wanting to extend their living spaces outdoors, so we’re planning to introduce a range of outdoor fireplaces and fire pits that combine both style and functionality. These will be perfect for anyone looking to create a cosy, year-round outdoor entertaining area. We’re also investing in new technology that will enhance the customer experience. Royal Street, L4: A Storied Landmark in Liverpool's Rich History
Information and images supplied by Gordon Whitehallwritten by C.S.Welford & Edited By C.O’Brien-Welford
In the heart of Liverpool, Royal Street, L4, might seem like an ordinary street to the casual passerby. But beneath its unassuming surface lies a profound legacy that has shaped the cultural and historical identity of this iconic city. From its pivotal role in the creation of two of the most famous football clubs in the world to its connection with The Beatles' rise to global fame, and even a poignant reminder of wartime sacrifice, Royal Street serves as a living monument to Liverpool’s rich and resilient heritage.
Few streets in the UK can boast such a unique blend of football history, musical heritage, and wartime tragedy. As we explore the stories that have made Royal Street legendary, it becomes clear that this is more than just a collection of buildings. It is a testament to the spirit, talent, and determination that has left an indelible mark on the fabric of Liverpool.
The move made by Everton from Anfield and the birth of LFC a tale of rivalry

Football in Liverpool is not just a sport—it’s a way of life. And much of that passion can be traced back to the events that unfolded on Royal Street in the late 19th century, laying the foundations for two of the world’s most famous football clubs: Everton FC and Liverpool FC.
In 1891, a heated internal dispute within Everton Football Club came to a head at the Everton Valley
Presbyterian Church Hall, located on Royal Street. George Mahon, a key figure within the club, took control, leading to the ousting of the then-president, John Houlding, a prominent brewer and Lord Mayor of Liverpool. This pivotal meeting, held on 18th September 1891, led to Everton FC’s historic move from their original home at Anfield to Goodison Park, creating the first purpose-built football stadium in England.

However, John Houlding, determined to keep football at Anfield, formed a new team in 1892: Liverpool Football Club. The rivalry between Everton and Liverpool began not just with a football match but from this intense power struggle, with both clubs finding their origins on Royal Street. Today, these clubs represent one of the fiercest footballing rivalries in the world, with Liverpool FC boasting 19 league titles and 6 European Cups, and Everton FC carrying a proud history that includes 9 league titles.

Brian Epstein and The Beatles A Music Revolution
The modest church hall on Royal Street, where these monumental decisions were made, remains an understated but vital piece of football history.
Royal Street's influence extends beyond football. In 1950, the Epstein Family Shop on Royal Street provided an unlikely starting point for one of the most important figures in modern music: Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles. Working in his grandparents’ shop, Epstein developed the business skills that would later help him catapult The Beatles to global stardom.
By the early 1960s, Epstein’s management of The Beatles helped the group become one of the most successful and influential bands of all time. From Liverpool to the world stage, The Beatles redefined popular music with over 600 million records sold worldwide. And it all began on the unassuming streets of Royal Street, where Epstein’s first foray into business set him on a path to change music history forever.

Once the former site of Nems 62/72/80 Walton Road, Epsteins shop owned by Isaac and Dinah grandparents to Brian Epstein who started his career in the shop. The family lived above the shop and later moved to 27 Anfield Road now Epstein House (Hotel) which you can still view today. This plaque will be the first in the area for Brian Epstein who became manager of The Beatles and other Merseybeat artists.

The Tragic RAF Plane Crash of 1937: A Wartime Sacrifice
Not all of Royal Street’s history is filled with triumph. On 6th December 1937, tragedy struck when an RAF Double Wing Hawker Audax plane collided with the steeple of the Everton Valley Presbyterian Church, located on Royal Street, due to heavy fog. The crash caused widespread destruction, obliterating houses on nearby Globe Street and Everton Valley.
The young pilot, Gordon Dutton Angus, aged just 20, lost his life in the accident. He was training for the impending Second World War, and his death remains a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by countless young men who served their country. The community on Royal Street has never forgotten this tragic event, honoring Angus with the solemn phrase, “Gone But Not Forgotten.”
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the wartime sacrifices that shaped the lives of the local community and the country at large. Today, Royal Street continues to remember this loss as part of its rich, layered history.
The Spirit of Liverpool: A Living Heritage
Liverpool is a city defined by its resilience and creativity, and Royal Street, L4, is a testament to this spirit. From the birth of two footballing giants to Brian Epstein’s early steps toward global music
history, and the tragic wartime sacrifice that left its mark on the community, Royal Street’s history is an essential part of Liverpool’s legacy.
In 2022, Liverpool welcomed over 54 million visitors, many drawn by the city’s footballing prowess and its rich musical heritage. The city’s tourism industry contributes an estimated £4.9 billion to the economy, with a significant portion driven by football tourism and Beatles-related attractions.
As we continue to honor and preserve this history, Royal Street stands as a reminder of how local events can shape the global landscape. From the passionate football fans that fill Anfield and Goodison Park every season, to the music lovers that continue to celebrate The Beatles, Royal Street has left an indelible mark on the world stage.

Preserving Royal Street’s Legacy
As Liverpool moves forward, it’s crucial that streets like Royal Street continue to be celebrated and remembered. The stories embedded in its buildings, from football’s fierce beginnings to the cultural revolution of Merseybeat, are vital threads in the city’s narrative.
Royal Street reminds us of the significance of local history and how even the quietest corners of a city can be the birthplace of world-changing events. As Liverpool’s heritage continues to grow and evolve, Royal Street will remain an enduring symbol of the city’s spirit, where resilience, passion, and innovation are celebrated with every step. For future generations, Royal Street will continue to serve as a living monument—a place where football, music, and history converge, o ering lessons from the past that will shape the city’s future. Liverpool’s Royal Street may be small, but its legacy is monumental.

Supporting Gordon Whitehall's Preservation E orts
Preserving the rich history and heritage of Royal Street and its surroundings is no small feat. For Gordon Whitehall, this mission goes beyond historical memory—it's about keeping the community vibrant and maintaining the beauty of Liverpool’s iconic streets for future generations. With the support of several local businesses, Gordon has made great strides in preserving the historical and aesthetic significance of Royal Street and its surrounding areas.
Looking Ahead: A Call for Community Engagement
Gordon Whitehall’s preservation journey is far from over, and he’s keen to involve even more local businesses. In the coming weeks, Gordon plans to launch a podcast encouraging local businesses and residents to take pride in their surroundings. His call to action includes asking businesses to place flowers in large pots during the summer and winter, bringing colour and life to the streets.
In addition, Gordon is urging local gardeners to mow grass at least six times a year to keep the areas around these historic sites neat and well-maintained. Through these simple yet e ective actions, Gordon believes the
community can collectively ensure that Royal Street—and other parts of Liverpool—continue to be spaces that celebrate history and beauty. As these preservation e orts continue, Gordon Whitehall’s collaboration with businesses like Paul King Modern Homes Design Ltd, Kevin Ball Global Memorials, and DD Wilson Gas and Heating Engineers Ltd demonstrates the power of local partnerships in safeguarding the city's heritage.

Jo Jingles Liverpool
An Interview With Kate O’Brien Fay
Kate, you've just started your journey with Jo Jingles in Liverpool! How did it all begin for you, and what inspired you to bring this fun, musical experience to local families?
25 years ago, my eldest daughter was born with verbal and oral dyspraxia, causing a speech delay that made her di cult to understand. After lots of speech therapy, her speech improved, and she started mainstream school. During her early years, I wanted her to join a fun activity that would support her language development, and that’s when I discovered Jo Jingles, recommended by speech therapy services. The music, rhymes, and action songs helped her language improve rapidly, and by age 11, she earned a musical scholarship.
When my second daughter was born with a similar impairment, I immediately enrolled her in Jo Jingles too. The classes, full of singing, dancing,

For parents who might not be familiar, can you tell us why music classes, like Jo Jingles, are so beneficial for young children? I read that musical activities can boost early literacy and even improve memory by up to 30% in toddlers! How do your classes help with this kind of development?
Jo Jingles classes aim to enhance a child's Pre-school education is enhanced through music, with Jo Jingles o ering a range of programmes that combine singing, dancing, and playing instruments. These activities help children develop language skills, improve physical coordination, and boost self-confidence, discipline, independence, and social skills by interacting with their peers.

Understanding pitch, the highs and lows of music, is critical for interpreting and performing music. Babies are believed to have a natural sense of pitch, making early musical exposure essential. Singing without accompaniment is a simple way to weave music into daily life, helping children grasp language patterns, emotions, and social interaction.
Starting a new business can be quite an adventure! What have been some of the early challenges of getting the word out about your classes, and how are you tackling them?
I have been getting the word out for my business by email and leafleting local primary schools, nursery schools and baby and toddler groups. I have enjoyed this greatly as it has allowed me meet lots of new parents/ carers and children in my area and this is what I love to do. However what I have found most di cult is reaching families outside of my immediate area. To do this I had to use social media and the problem with this was I had never used it before. This was so daunting a task to me that it almost prevented me from pursuing my passion of setting up Jo Jingles Liverpool. Chris Welford of Constellation Marketing Solutions has shown me the utmost patience in introducing me to social media and showing me how to use it to market Jo Jingles Liverpool. I am so impressed by the professionalism of Constellation Marketing Solutions that I have asked Chris Welford to help me with my social media campaigns going forward.
We know that word of mouth is one of the best ways to grow a business, especially for family activities. Have you found any fun ways to get parents talking about Jo Jingles in Liverpool? Maybe through free taster sessions or special o ers?
Word of mouth is the best way to promote a local business like Jo Jingles. Our customers choose us because we're conveniently located within walking distance, saving them the hassle of parking. To raise awareness, I’ve visited local schools, supermarkets, and toddler groups to hand out flyers and talk to parents about our classes, o ering free trials. I’ve also introduced flexible half-term payments and only charge for attended sessions, which has resonated well with families. Additionally, we charge the same fee regardless of how many children a parent brings, making our classes accessible to childminders and parents of
multiple children, which has sparked positive conversations in the community.
Liverpool is a vibrant, family-friendly city, but parents are busier than ever! With many families juggling work and childcare, how are you making Jo Jingles accessible and easy for parents to fit into their schedules?
Yes, parents are often busier today than they ever have been. As a parent myself I know what a busy parents schedule is like and it often involves school runs with older children, care duties for elderly family members and of course work. In order to make Jo Jingles accessible to all I have scheduled all my morning classes to start late enough to allow a school drop o while my afternoon classes finish early enough to allow tine for school pickups. I also welcome childminders with multiple children (while only charging for one child) for those parents who are at work during the day. I am also developing an inter generational class where I am going to be bringing Jo Jingles Liverpool to a combined class of senior citizens and babies/ toddlers. The benefits of music and music to both the elderly and tie young are well documented. Likewise the social communication that is is enhancedthrough a shared musical experience benefits both the young and elderly members of the group simultaneously.
And of course, Jo Jingles Liverpool always welcomes dads or grandad’s to come along to classes as we know that nowadays they too are just as likely to be involved with childcare duties within busy working families.

tool these days, and I saw a stat that over 72% of parents check social media daily for ideas and activities for their children. Are you using Instagram or Facebook to connect with local mums and dads and show o the fun that happens in your classes?
While I am new to the whole social media scene I have spoken to young families and become aware just how much that particular demographic rely upon it to find ideas of which activities to engage with for their little ones. In order to maximise my social media reach I have sourced the help of Chris Welford at Constellation Marketing Solutions who are now handling all my social media campaigns going forward. I recommend them highly.
There are lots of activities available for little ones
for school readiness. The repetitive nature of nursery rhymes helps children anticipate words and sounds, boosting the brain’s ability to process rhymes. This skill is crucial for learning to read and spell. Activities like animal noises and bubble-blowing strengthen the oral motor muscles, which are vital for clear speech. Jo Jingles also uses Makaton, a simple sign language system that allows babies to express themselves before they can speak, reducing frustration. Parents and carers can easily learn Makaton in classes, making it a great tool for language development. This is particularly helpful for toddlers experiencing speech delays or those learning English as a second language. Jo Jingles isn’t just for children with developmental issues. It's an excellent early intervention tool supported by doctors and the Early Years Alliance for developing essential preschool skills like speech, language, social communication, listening, and attention. The best part? The children don’t even

these days—from baby yoga to messy play. What do you think sets Jo Jingles apart and makes it a must-do for parents in Liverpool?
What sets Jo Jingles apart from other baby and toddler groups, like messy play or baby yoga, is its strong educational foundation. It's not just a place to pass time on a rainy morning with a bored toddler—every minute of Jo Jingles is a learning opportunity. Developed with input from paediatricians, the program is designed to enhance every aspect of child development.
Jo Jingles is especially helpful for babies and toddlers with speech and language delays. The music and actions used in the sessions have been proven to stimulate the language centres of children's brains. Practitioners are trained to use musical instruments to develop bilateral coordination, a skill that helps children with tasks like dressing themselves and handwriting later on. Collecting and returning instruments also fosters
realize they’re learning—they’re just having fun singing, making music, and making friends. In Jo Jingles Liverpool, every session is designed to support child development in every child who attends. I also share the science behind the Jo Jingles method with parents and carers, so they can continue to reinforce these skills at home.

The Average Lifespan of a Website: What You Need to Know
The Average Lifespan of a Website - What Every Business Needs to Know
In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, having a strong and relevant online presence is crucial for business success. Your website is often the first interaction potential customers have with your brand, making it one of the most critical components of your digital strategy. However, like any piece of
technology, your website has a limited lifespan and needs regular updates to stay competitive. But how long should you expect your website to remain e ective before it needs a refresh? This article explores the average lifespan of a website, why websites become outdated, and what you can do to extend your site's longevity.
On average, a website remains relevant for about 2 to 3 years. After this period, most websites begin to show signs of ageing, such as outdated design, slow performance, and less e ective content. According to Andy Crestodina, co-founder of Orbit Media, after this timeframe, changes in technology, user behaviour, and design trends start making websites feel out of touch.

Why Do Websites Have a Limited Lifespan?
There are several factors that contribute to a website’s limited lifespan. Technology evolves rapidly. A website built three years ago may not be compatible with the latest devices or software. Design preferences shift over time. What looked sleek and modern two years ago might now seem cluttered or outdated. User Expectations The way people use the internet changes. For instance, the rise of mobile browsing means websites must be fully responsive to work e ectively across all devices. Search engine algorithms, like Google’s, are constantly updated. Websites that aren't refreshed with the latest SEO techniques may see a drop in search rankings. Older websites become more vulnerable to security threats if software and plugins aren’t regularly updated.

2 YEAR, 7 months

Supporting Statistics on Website Lifespan
The 2 to 3-year lifespan is supported by various studies and surveys:
Adobe reports that 38% of people stop engaging with a website if the layout is unattractive. This highlights the importance of keeping your website design fresh. HubSpot found that 75% of users form their opinion of a business based solely on the website’s design, underlining how crucial an up-to-date website is for credibility. According to Sweor, 88% of users are less likely to return to a website after a bad experience, further emphasising the need for continuous website maintenance and updates.
Factors That A ect Website Longevity
Not all websites age at the same rate. The following factors influence how long your website remains relevant. Some industries, such as technology and creative sectors, are more influenced by design trends and may need more frequent updates. Regularly updating content, optimising SEO, and checking for performance issues can extend a website’s lifespan. As

businesses expand, their website needs evolve. A website that worked well for a startup might not be su cient for a growing enterprise. Websites built on outdated platforms or with legacy technology will become obsolete faster than those built on modern, flexible systems.
Red Flags That Your Website is Aging
While the 2-to-3-year lifespan is a good rule of thumb, here are some signs that your website might need an upgrade. A slow website can deter visitors. 40% of users abandon a page that takes longer than three seconds to load.
Regular Content Updates
Updating your website content regularly is one of the easiest ways to extend its lifespan and maintain relevance. Fresh, up-to-date content not only engages your visitors but also signals to search engines that your website is active. This improves your SEO rankings. For instance, adding new blog posts, updating case studies, and refreshing product descriptions can enhance user experience and keep your audience informed.
Why this matters: According to HubSpot, companies that blog generate 55% more website

visitors than those that don’t. Moreover, businesses that continuously update their content are 13 times more likely to see positive ROI on their marketing e orts. Frequent updates also ensure that your website stays relevant to current trends and topics, encouraging repeat visitors.
Responsive Design
Ensuring that your website is mobile-friendly and adjusts well to di erent screen sizes is critical in today’s digital world. With mobile devices accounting for over 50% of global web tra c, a responsive design is no longer optional but essential. Websites that aren’t optimised for mobile users tend to perform poorly in terms of user engagement, leading to a higher bounce rate and lower search engine rankings.
Why this matters: Google introduced mobile-first indexing in 2018, which means that Google predominantly uses the mobile version of a website for ranking and indexing. If your site isn’t responsive, you may miss out on significant organic tra c and fall behind competitors. A study by Think With Google found that 61% of users are unlikely to return to a site on mobile if they have trouble accessing it, while 40% will visit a competitor’s site instead.
Performance Monitoring
Regularly monitoring your website’s performance helps to identify issues that could a ect user experience, such as slow load times, broken links, or security vulnerabilities. A slow website frustrates users, leading to higher bounce rates. Ensuring that your website is fast and secure is vital in maintaining a positive user experience and retaining tra c.
Why this matters: According to Google, as page load time goes from one second to three seconds, the probability of bounce increases by 32%. Websites that load within 2 seconds generally see the best performance in terms of user engagement and conversions. Tools like Google Analytics, GTmetrix, and Pingdom are useful in tracking site speed, uptime, and other performance metrics.
SEO Audits
Conducting periodic SEO audits is essential to keep your website optimised for search engines. Algorithms like Google’s are constantly evolving, and a site that once ranked high may lose its
Website Design

position if SEO practices are outdated. An audit will assess your website’s technical SEO, on-page optimisation, and content quality to ensure that it remains competitive in search engine results.

Why this matters: Research shows that 75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results, highlighting the importance of maintaining high SEO rankings. Regular SEO audits can help ensure that your website remains visible, bringing in organic tra c and reducing dependency on paid advertising. By checking factors like keyword usage, meta tags, and site structure, you can keep your SEO strategy aligned with current best practices.
Gather User Feedback
Listening to your audience is crucial to understanding what works and what needs improvement on your website. Collecting user feedback helps you gain insights into their preferences, pain points, and expectations. Implementing changes based on this feedback ensures that your website continues to provide value and improves user experience over time.
Why this matters: According to a study by PwC, 73% of consumers say that a good experience is a key factor in influencing their brand loyalty. Websites that regularly implement user feedback tend to have higher user satisfaction and retention rates. Surveys, feedback forms, and user testing are e ective methods to gather and analyse this data.
On average, a website's lifespan is about 2 to 3 years, but this can vary based on industry trends, technological advancements, and the growth of your business. Keeping your website
updated with fresh content, performance monitoring, and responsive design can extend its relevance and prevent it from becoming outdated. In an ever-evolving digital landscape, businesses must stay proactive, continuously refreshing their online presence to maintain engagement and drive success.
By investing in regular updates and paying attention to red flags like slow load times and declining search rankings, businesses can ensure their websites remain a vital tool in their marketing arsenal, providing a seamless experience for users and driving continued growth.

Raising Awareness on Mental Health: Zoe Cawley’s Journey
By Zoe Cawley, Edited by C.S.Welford & C.O’Brien-Welford

My name is Zoe, and I've been battling mental health challenges since I was 11. Over the years, I've witnessed others struggle with their mental health as well, and it’s heartbreaking to see that, even a decade later, there's still not enough support available for those who are su ering. Writing has been my outlet, a way to express feelings I never thought I could share. When I started sharing my work on social media, I quickly realised I wasn’t alone in these feelings. While it’s sad to know that so many people experience similar pain, it's also comforting to know you're not alone—you're not crazy.
Having someone to relate to can make all the di erence. That’s why I continue to share my poetry and raise awareness of mental health, particularly on my TikTok account. Helping others helps me, and I truly believe that’s my purpose.
One of the hardest things for young people is reaching out for help. Many feel that asking for support will lead to rejection or that their struggles won’t be taken seriously. Opening up can be incredibly scary—there's often a fear that others will see you as weak or seeking attention, or that people won’t understand what you're going through. Some feel like their problems aren't "bad enough" to seek help. But the truth is, there's no such thing as being "sick enough" to deserve support, regardless of what services might suggest.
In my view, the government isn’t doing enough to support mental health. The Mental Health Act needs reforming. Those struggling with mental health deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, especially when they’re already vulnerable. Far too often, patients are mistreated or neglected, which only worsens their mental health. We need more community support services so that hospitals become a last resort. If more funding were available, many young people could avoid the need for hospitalisation, which can have a further negative impact on their mental well-being. More community resources could also help reduce the strain on the NHS.
Changing Attitudes Toward Mental Health
Mental health is often misunderstood, and the stigma around it is still pervasive. We are not lazy or weak—we are su ering, and many of us are crying out for help only to be ignored. The government has the power to make a di erence and save lives, but I don’t believe they’re doing enough. We need actions, not just words or empty promises.
If I Were Prime Minister for a Week
If I could make changes for just one week, here’s what I’d focus on:
Support for the Homeless
Instead of spending money on anti-homeless measures, I’d invest in providing safe accommodation and support for those experiencing homelessness.
Reforming the Mental Health Act:
Too many people, including myself, have been neglected or mistreated. This needs to change. In 2022, around 1 in 4 adults in the UK experienced a mental health problem, highlighting the need for better policies and care.
Community Support for All
I'd fund more community support groups and well-being activities for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Mental health should be taught in schools to help young people manage stress and anxiety from an early age.
To anyone struggling with their mental health, please know that your feelings are valid. There’s no threshold you need to cross to "deserve" help. Even if it feels like you’re alone, you’re not. Remember that not every thought is a fact, and though the dark days may return, there are ways to cope. When you feel like letting go, hold on—you never know what the next day might bring.
For more inspiring stories about mental health, you can follow me on social media, where I continue to raise awareness and o er support. Remember, you are not alone.
