PUBLISHER’S LETTER

MANY THANKS! A

s many of us can see, we are going through very transformative times. Nature is changing; our family structures are changing; and we are trying to cope with all of these changes. It can be a very stressful time of our lives. From my own experiences, I see those changes as opportunities to grow and transform into a person that is more fulfilled and aware. During this time, you need to really take a good care of yourself, by doing things like eating nourishing meals, taking walks in nature, and meeting with friends and trying to laugh. When we can laugh, we open doors for new opportunities, and we are more likely to say, “YES” to ourselves and to the things that are coming our way. For so many years, I have heard about the evolutionary shift that is currently happening, but I never quite got it until now. Right now I understand it more clearly, and I can feel it more than ever. It is a shift from the young soul to the mature soul paradigm, from action to heart, from a focus on personal achievement to a focus on interpersonal relationships, from feeling isolated and alone to feeling connected and a part of something bigger. I want to let you know that you are not alone, and all of us here at “Conscious Community Magazine” are here to serve each of you on your spiritual journey.

KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER

On this note, I want to ask you for help. As many of you know, I have been running this magazine for over a year and a half. This magazine has not only changed my life, but the lives of millions of people over the past 38 years. I am very passionate about co-creating this world, expanding our worldviews, and empowering individuals to do better and live life with higher purpose. I am here to be of service to all of you; if you want to see this publication still in print, I need your support. If you read each issue, and it brings a smile to your face when you do, please take action and support this magazine. When we take action, things start to shift and move. Do not look to other people to do that. You are part of an active community that takes action to create the changes in the world that we all are seeking. You can support us in many ways: you can buy advertising; you can buy subscriptions to our magazine for family members or friends; or you can make a donation by sending a check to Conscious Community, LLC, 47 W Polk Street, Suite 153, Chicago, IL 60605. I am grateful for all of your support! In November, we have a lot of exciting events, like the “Green Living Expo” on Nov. 4, November 11th (11:11) and Thanksgiving. The 10th anniversary “Green Living Expo” will happen on Nov. 4 from 10 to 3 p.m. at McHenry County College Gym, 8900 U.S. Hwy 14, Crystal Lake, IL 60012. I will be there with my crew and magazines. Please stop by our table and say hello! When I was I putting together the November issue, I was surprised to see how many events are happening on Nov. 11, 11:11, which is the power number for action, good works and unity. I am very excited to bring you a series of 11:11 events on the Community Happenings, as well as on the Pulse Calendar. I am looking forward to seeing many of you and celebrating this significant time of the year. On Thursday Nov. 23, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving in the US. It is a time of year when we gather around the table and share food with family members and friends. It is a time of the year when we express gratitude for the things we have and the experiences that we’ve gone through this past year. Gratitude is a very powerful action, which we can take every day of our lives, that brings us closer to the things we want. By saying, “Thank you,” we are letting the Universe or God/Goddess know that we love our lives, and we want more good things to happen. For more information about the power of gratitude, look to Keridak Silk’s article, “The Magic of Gratitude,” on page 11. Happy Thanksgiving all year around! The Best,

[COMMUNITY Q&A]

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q. I was recently laid off. This is a dreadful situation. I’m scared of what may happen from here and need some advice to calm myself. — Laid Off Lacey A. Dear Laid Off Lacey, I’m sorry to hear this. Virtually everyone would share the same feelings in this situation. I’d like to approach this question from a higher viewpoint to bridge it for long-term perspective, which hopefully will assist you in the present as well. I’d like to share a concept, which arises from the question “Is it good or is it bad?” and what helps determine which one is the answer in any circumstance. At first glance, most come to a conclusion by how a situation currently feels. In your case, this probably feels disastrous, while totally different scenarios might feel really great like getting a new job. Who could know except for one who has vision that reaches into the future to bring back a multitude of possibilities? Imagine that you knew that you were energetically set up to sacrifice this job at this particular time to meet the opportunity of another job opening that would provide longer term prospects for better pay, security and advancement. Would this insight cause you to feel better about this loss? As you might see, the landscape of future possibility is constrained by our sight which is limited to this moment in time. This concept can be applied to most situations where we tend to make value judgments based upon our cur10

rent feelings without knowing what opportunities pave the path ahead. Judging situations based on current feelings is an incomplete way to evaluate circumstances because we can’t predict what’s coming in the future. Assessing situations from a longer term, higher view can help ease anxiety because one trusts that things will eventually work out for the best when combined with faith that God or the Universe aspires for nothing less than our highest. Fear only exists in the present. Our goal is to alleviate fear by creating space for peace within ourselves with whatever tools we have available. Sometimes this calls for playing with the magic of perspective, which can shift us instantly from bad feelings to neutral or good. Other times it can be to sit in meditation or breath-work to assist in cleansing erratic energy from the body, receive clarity and tranquilize fear in the present. It can be quite comforting to know that our options aren’t necessarily determined by the prevailing narrowed path of vision into the future. The intention as conscious beings is to remember that we are not limited only by what we see while holding space in a field of unlimited potentialities. Q. My first grade daughter had her face painted at a school carnival. She loved the paint and cried as I washed it off in the bathtub that night, but she couldn’t go to school the next day with half-peeled off face-paint. I didn’t feel right about either decision

I was faced with. I felt conflicted. Did I do the right thing? –Face-paint Scrubber A. Dear Face-paint Scrubber, Parents often find themselves in situations like this and don’t consciously realize what motivates their decisions. It feels as if you were torn between honoring your daughter’s tearful love of the face-paint and your obligation to keep up the image of good parent by making sure she was squeaky clean for school the next day. What would’ve happened if you didn’t wash it off? Would you have respected her fondness for something special while throwing away the projected thought of what other’s might think? No one wants to be seen as a bad parent, yet cultural expectations often influence our decision-making process without our realization. I’d ask, if she didn’t have school the next day, would you still have washed it off? This should help you better grasp the issue with which you were really struggling. There was obviously something poking your subconscious that caused internal conflict, which tells me that you may have washed it off from external pressure to “save face” as a parent. If so, this feeling offers you a nugget of experience to use as a future trigger to look deeper within yourself before deciding. It can be helpful to grow the muscle that more consciously informs us as to whether choices are coming from external or internal influences. This exercise allows you to excavate those unconscious drivers equipping you to recognize similar energies to better discern later on what is truly prompting your decisions. Alecia Rice integrates higher concepts with wisdom to bring forth balance, perspective and clarity. She’s a personal advisor, speaker and gatherer of women. For perspective on personal issues, you’re invited to text questions and comments to 681-321-1109. Discussions continue at Ask Alecia on Facebook.

THE MAGIC OF

GRATITUDE by Keridak Silk

Fall is the time of reaping the harvest. In many cultures, it also brings celebrations of thankfulness. Gratitude reaps amazing results at any time of year. The magic is that even being thankful for tiny things can make you feel good, change your outlook on life and bring more good things to you. When you are thankful, even if it is just lip service, you and the energy around you begins to shift. It is like the research on smiling. Turn the corners of your mouth up and you feel better. The same is true for gratitude. Just the act or statement can begin to change your life for the better. A client of mine, Sarah had a stepchild that grated on her nerves. As the time for a visit came, Sarah would get more and more tense. I suggested the “Thankfulness List.” Every day, Sarah was to list a few things that she saw as good about her stepchild. She started with two or three items. Her stepdaughter had pretty eyes; she remembered to bring a jacket, and so forth. Each added positive energy between them. Sarah was no longer looking for every issue; instead her focus was on appreciating. The list grew each day. Amazingly, not only did Sarah feel better, more relaxed and happy with her stepdaughter, but the child became happier and less unruly. Do you journal? Have you noticed that often a journal becomes a place to vent negative feelings? Understand that the more you write hurt, hate or anger the more power you give it; the worse you feel. Change your life by writing a “Gratitude Journal.” Each entry of gratitude will start an upward spiral. Your aura will change. People will notice that something is different though they may not be able to put their finger on it. They will feel more attracted to you and like you more. This was true for Jake. He had heard that journaling was a great way to get the feelings out about his wife, Clara; instead, he was feeling worse. He radiated hurt and anger. His wife pulled away which hurt him more. He decided to give a gratitude journal a try. Each night he wrote only about the good things that happened in his day. In the morning, he found he felt lighter. He spent the day looking for more positive stories to write about. He began to see his wife differently and he wrote his gratitude for having her in his life. He reminisced about their courtship, the trips and the activities that they had enjoyed over the years. The more he found thankfulness, the more he found to be thankful for. He shared these memories and daily joys with Clara. Together they started to smile again. Thanking the Universe, God or Goddess has a profound effect. It makes you feel better the more you express your gratitude. The energetic aura around you begins to glow more positively; others change how they react to you. This may be a gradual change. Become alert to the shifts and changes.

Magically, thankfulness on this magnitude affects the Law of Attraction. Consider the word attraction. Each thought pulls what you want towards you. Living in thankfulness works for all things. Your attitude gives focus to your desires. Linda wanted a new job. She sent resumes, went on interviews and each time she went in thinking, “Please God, let me get it. I know I won’t get it; I never get anything I ask for.” She was right she didn’t get the jobs. She felt worse and began to have trouble in other areas of her life. She had heard of the “Law of Attraction,” but didn’t understand why it never worked for her. Then during a class Linda learned that thanking for small favors could shift energy. She began to remember to be thankful for the little things. Job interviews went better, and she prayed her appreciation. She realized that showing gratitude should not always come after the fact. The “Law of Attraction” states that what you ask for starts the changes that make it happen. Stating your desire as if it has already happened makes it clear what you wish and that all barriers are gone. She began saying “Thank you God for the new job. I make $10 an hour more and am more satisfied than in my old job.” A few days later, a friend called. There was a great job at her company, and she wanted to recommend Linda. The magic of gratitude can be applied all year. Being truly thankful has a power all its own; the more you appreciate all the things, people and experiences in your life the greater you feel in abundance. Give and live in thanks.

AWAKEN TO LOVE Interview with Scott Stabile Interview by Janae Jean and Spencer Schluter

Our guest this month was Michigan-based author and speaker Scott Stabile. Stabile has a devoted social media following, including over 350K Facebook fans. We discussed his latest book, “Big Love,” social media, failure, success, pain and healing. You can learn more about him on social media @ScottStabile or on his website www.scottstabile.com. — J.J.

page we create and the type of energy that we have when we’re showing up. I'm really trying to be conscious about how I’m showing up to my Facebook page, even when I’m discussing politics or provocative issues. I don't always succeed at this, but I'm trying to bring more empathy and compassion to the conversation. I don't want to fuel the division. I don’t want to spit more vitriol on the fire of hatred... We can use social media incredibly positively, if we choose to… We can have a powerful impact.

Janae: You have quite a large Facebook following. How has social media has played into your career?

Spencer: I am pretty active on social media, and a common critique that I've heard is by talking about so-called “negative things” that that's being negative. They’re taking it to the point where you're making bad things happen by talking about them. If you don't discuss the hard things, that is not helping solve the problems. They’re still there. They’re just happening behind a layer of stigma, behind a layer of denial and that's… making it worse.

Scott: It’s been huge. Without Facebook, “Big Love” wouldn’t even exist. The publishers were really excited about my writing, but they were also really excited that I could show up with a platform already in place. On a personal level, it’s been even more important. The support and love that I feel has been extraordinary. To watch it grow over the past five years… and to watch the community respond in kind… It's a really powerful outlet for me. I know that social media gets a bad rap, and in some instances, it's warranted. Certainly, there's a lot of ugliness happening on social media, but I feel like we can take responsibility for the type of 12

NOVEMBER 2017

Scott: I agree with you completely. There is the term “Spiritual Bypassing,” and I think that that exists a lot with spiritual people. I count myself among the “spiritual people,” the personal growth, metaphysical people, who are seeking greater consciousness. I get comments on my page like that as well… “You are feeding the negativity

by even bringing it up.” That’s just an avoidance technique. We live in a world that is such an addicted society. We are so averse to being in our discomfort… We are constantly escaping. Some people are doing it with drugs… alcohol… shopping and whatever else; and some of us are doing it simply by avoidance. We’re professing that we’re vibrating at a “higher spiritual vibration,” but for me that's not real; it's nonsense. I believe in higher spiritual vibrations, but to ignore the injustices that are in our face in this world every day, and pretend that by not engaging we’re somehow vibrating on a different level, it's just not real… It doesn't feel like we’re being honest with what's going on underneath. If we’re not willing to be honest with darkness, and if we’re not willing to be present in our pain, if we’re putting a wall up to that experience, we’re putting the wall up to the light as well. We’re putting a wall up to the deepest possible connections we can be having with others. JJ: You spent 13 years in a cult. How did you go from having your spiritual life dictated by a guru to finding your true self? Scott: A lot of what I responded to, with the guru, with the cult, with that community, was in alignment with who I really am. We were constantly talking about unconditional love… unconditional friend-

ship… being present with our darkness and our pain in an honest way. A lot of what was happening there felt really right. What ultimately discouraged me from staying there was recognizing that the guru, the leader, wasn't who he said he was. There was a lot of manipulation, a lot of words and actions that felt outside the bounds of love... Moving away from him as a teacher was fairly easy, in that I was really ready to leave by the time that I left. What was brutal was losing a community of 25 friends who I was seeing all the time and spending most of my time with. All of whom deleted me from their lives overnight. The biggest shock and the hardest part of moving on… was just grieving the loss of a family. SS: That’s a really hard thing to learn. If you have a mentor who you put up on a pedestal and you realize that they are not only human too, but maybe they are not such a good person after all. I think a lot of people are in denial of that.

consciousness in this world, love makes noise in the face of injustice. We got to keep speaking up. For the unabridged transcript and audio podcast, visit www.consciouscommunity magazine.com. Janae Jean is the editor and social media manager for Conscious Community Magazine. She has a master’s degree in computer music composition from Johns Hopkins University, and is actively researching using electronically generated sounds for healing. Spencer Schluter is the advertising account manager and social media manager for Conscious Community Magazine. His experience includes visual communications, advertising, social media, marketing, public relations and business development. He is also a master level Reiki and traditional Chinese Qigong practioner.

Scott: Absolutely. We need more consciousness in the world on every level. We certainly need more consciousness in our world in the realm of injustice. We need to be willing to look honestly at what's going on; just how sexist this country is, just how racist this country is, just how homophobic this country is. There is no healing that happens within denial. It's not possible. Until we start acknowledging what's going on and our place in what's going on, we’re not going to get to the other side of it. Luckily… happily, I feel like more people are. It doesn't necessarily feel that way all the time. It's such a dark political reality right now. But, I feel like more people are waking up… in many different arenas: waking up spiritually, waking up politically, waking up socially… It’s happening because the darkness feels so big and so overwhelming that it is shaking people out of this zombie shell that so many of us live in and have lived in. I understand; I'm not professing myself to be one who has always spoken up… but I'm certainly not the zombie I once was. AUTUMN EQUINOX 2017 The Hearts Center

Techny, IL, September 21-24th, 2017 by Theresa Puskar The Hearts Center of Illinois recently held the Autumn Equinox 2017 gathering at the Techny Towers. The subtitle of the event was Experience the Heart of Loving-Kindness and the Joy of Compassion – The Twelve Archangels Illumine Chicago with Cosmic Joy. It was a four-day event that centered on meditation and prayer for a variety of causes within the Chicagoland area. I had never been to Techny Towers, and I was immediately impressed with the size of the building. At first glance, I thought it was a hospital. Once inside I noted that it had the feel of some of the Catholic retreat centers I visited in the past. Once in the event room, I was immediately flooded with memories from the past. I was taken back to my childhood and early life in the Catholic Church. That being said, The Hearts Center took on a much more progressive stance on the rituals and practices of old. The morning started with dance, but unfortunately due to the rush hour traffic from the western suburbs to the northern part of the city, I was unable to attend the session. The type of 14

disappointed because I don’t believe there is any greater way to start your day than in celebration and co-creation with the divine through dance. As I waited for the day’s events to begin, I rummaged through the books, trinkets and other merchandise that was for sale at the back of the room. There were several prayer cards with artist renderings of several masters, angels and sages from a myriad of religious traditions. Again, the cards

and books were reflective of the traditional art I used to see when visiting the Catholic Church. Once we assembled, we were introduced to the founder of “The Heart Center,” David Lewis. He sat at the front of the room and led the meditations, prayers and songs. His energy was calm and contemplative, and he held that space of leadership. He started by exerting that Chicago is a very special city, as it is geographically positioned at the heart chakra point of the nation. I had never heard this reference before, however when he said it, I remember a conversation that I had years ago when I was working on an inspirational audio program with native spiritual leader, Wolf Moondance. She was shocked and delighted at the breadth of spiritual energy that Chicago and the adjacent suburbs held. She noted that there was a remarkable amount of natural parkland in the area, and that for an urban center, Chicago held a great deal of nature and corresponding spiritual energy. The theme of the contemplative session was prayer. “For the release of light to cleanse, heal, uplift, purify, specifically

Chicago, America and the world.” David explained that the group was “operating from causal body (flame) and seeding the area with light, divine energy, brotherhood and sisterhood.” One of the ideals that most resonated with me was his assertion, “We are not focusing our energies against darkness. We are blazing divine light forth.” In particular the prayers and intentions focused on Chicago leaders, violent Chicago neighborhoods and Chicagoland issues, including: gangs, drug and human trafficking, police violence, racism, the schools, the economy and the government. Each participant had prayer books and hymnals, again reflective of those distributed in the Catholic masses I had attended. David then proceeded to lead the group in prayer and song. The first was our pledge to our guardian angel. We committed to listen, follow and obey them. When I went within during this contemplation, I received a message from mine. I had been feeling a little guilty because I have not been focusing my energies on my angels and guides, but more on communications with the divine masters that I follow (Christ, Mother Mary, Buddha, Quan Yin, Pachamama, and Sri Amma Bhagavan). Once I connected, my guilt was put to rest. The response I received from my guardian angel was “I am here– I have always been. Let your fears and concerns rest. Lean back on me. It is never too late. Feel the freedom and release that comes with surrender and feel at peace.” I really loved and appreciated the message I received. While I know in my heart that I am always being guided and supported by my divine team, sometimes I need to be reminded! I anticipate and look forward to the day that I have complete faith and no longer require such reminders!

Theresa Puskar and Steve Miller

Hail Mary Hail Mary, full of grace; Blessed art thou among angels, And blessed is thy union with Raphael. Holy Mary, Archeia Sublime, Pray for us sons and daughters divine Now and ever as we meditate with thee. One of the practices I revisited during my time with The Hearts Center was the teaching of the Hawaiian Ho’Oponopono process. Several years ago, I had the honor and pleasure of producing several audio programs for one of the metaphysical teachers in The Secret, Dr. Joe Vitale. Joe introduced me to this process, and while it has been years since I was introduced, when I find myself being triggered by a situation I still find myself quietly chanting, “I love you. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you!” If you are not familiar with these spiritual teachings,

I would encourage you to read “Zero Limits” by Joe Vitale and Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D. This process has had a profound and lasting affect on me. As the morning session ended, Steve Miller shared the powerful story of Treva Belle. She survived a near-death experience, and thereafter became a committed member of The Hearts Center community. She lived to a ripe old age, and her story was both uplifting and affirming. She was a living example of living from the heart. I left the event with a greater sense of appreciation for my life and all the graces that I have been fortunate enough to experience. Theresa Puskar, our All About Town contributor, is a writer, trainer, speaker, minister and inspirational audiobook producer. She is the author of a solo show and workshop, Beauty, Bollywood and Beyond, along with The Terri Series – seven children’s books that focus on bullying, honoring diversity, celebrating creativity, non-judgment of emotions, finding alternatives to technology-based entertainment, discovering a non-judgmental God and overcoming fears. She has also recorded a powerful experiential audio program, How to De-Clutter Your Mind and Live a Heart-Centered Life. To place an order or learn more about her upcoming shows or ministry, you can log onto her website, www.theresapuskar.com.

I was thrilled with their rewrite of the Hail Mary prayer. Having recited the traditional renditions of these prayers for so many years, it was refreshing to experience them with new content that was more inclusive and less shaming. The prayer is known as the Raphael and Mother Mary HeartStream. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

cows will have a magnificent tree they can rub up against and rest under its shade.” Does the injunction to safeguard sensitive projects mean we should be neurotically secretive about what is important to us? No, it just means we should be discerning when choosing the people with whom we share our visions. If you know that someone loves and supports you, that would be a good person to include in your vision. Some people attend “Mastermind” groups in which they meet weekly with a few positive friends to share exciting ideas and get behind each other for success. Cultivate and fertilize the soil in which you plant your valued seeds.

[FROM THE HEART]

THE WORD AND THE WOMB by Alan Cohen How much should you tell other people about what is really important to you? Should you broadcast your dreams to everyone in hopes that others will honor your intentions and support you? Or would you be wiser to keep your visions to yourself and avoid debilitating criticism? You have probably had the experience of sharing a fresh insight, experience or project with someone, only to be met with an icy, insensitive response. “I tried that, and it didn’t work.” “You will put yourself at risk.” “That would cost too much to produce, and nobody would buy it.” Nothing is more daunting than someone throwing cold water on your hot dreams. Then you walk away from the conversation feeling deflated and defeated. I am amazed at how obtuse people can be when offered an opportunity to support someone. I visited a friend in the hospital who had had a very minor surgery. A relative in the room said, “I know someone who died of what you have.” One of my coaching clients told her husband she wanted to take a yoga class. He laughed and told her she was on her way to Jonestown. When I self-published my first book using my mother’s life savings, the publisher’s agent told me, “They say you don’t make any money until your third book.” (The book went on to be a bestseller.) Jesus was a master metaphysician who understood the power of thoughts and words. He instructed, “Cast not pearls before swine,” meaning to not offer sensitive, lofty ideas to people who will not understand and gobble them up. After he performed a certain healing, he told the recipient, “Tell no man.” Jesus understood that if that man broadcast his experience publicly before the healing was solidified, negative observers would cast doubts and skepticism upon him so as to weaken or undo the healing. Better to wait until the healing was gelled in his subconscious; then the opinions of others could not unstitch his advancement. A yogi told me, “When you plant a seedling in a field where cows are grazing, set a fence around the little plant to protect it from cows eating or trampling it. Later when the seedling has grown large and sturdy, you can remove the fence, and the 20

Let’s say you share a sensitive project at an early stage and someone throws a dagger of negation at it. Does that mean the project has been killed? Not at all. You can use the experience to make your project stronger. Use the criticism as motivation to go within and affirm the value, power and potential of your project. In homeopathy and immunization, patients take small doses of viruses that would kill them in larger doses. The body then develops antibodies that prevent the disease from overcoming them should it return. “What does not kill me makes me stronger.” No person, no matter how negative or virulent they are, has the power to thwart your project or remove your good. That power belongs only to you. If someone judges or attacks you, consider them an angel reflecting to you your own beliefs, doubts or fears so you can recognize and heal them. If you get upset or cave in when someone criticizes you, you must agree with that person. If you didn’t, the criticism would not disturb you. Your issue is not with the other person. It is with yourself. Find the hidden self-doubt or judgment, confront it, hold it up to the light and heal it with a greater truth. Because light is more powerful than darkness, you must succeed. As we enter the holiday season, you may have some juicy opportunities to discern with whom to share your sensitive truth and how to deal with people who judge or criticize you. Don’t shy away from these opportunities. Use each one to practice remembering your beauty, power and worth, and that of your valued projects. Motivational master Jim Rohn said, “If you really want something, you will find a way. If you don’t, you will find an excuse.” Don’t use fear or others’ negative opinions as an excuse to not move ahead. Don’t let people into your visions if they don’t match your intention. Love and support your visions like a pregnant woman would diligently protect and care for the soul in her womb. Then your progeny will grow into powerful, mature, successful adults. Everyone is your teacher. Some teach through loving support, and others teach through challenge. Become a spiritual master by using the power of the word to your highest advantage. Alan Cohen is the author of A Course in Miracles Made Easy; mastering the Journey from Fear to Love. Join Alan and friends in Hawaii, Feb. 11 - March 16, 2018 for a rare retreat, Unplugged. Put your devices aside for a few days, liberate yourself from technology and reconnect with yourself and your life. [THE HeART OF COMMUNITY]

A LEAP of HeART by Misty Soderholm Are you ready to take that jump? A leap of HeART that requires every ounce of courage you have to live your purpose. As you prepare for your wildest dreams you must step outside of your comfort zone and live each moment as if it’s your last. No one goes to their deathbed wishing they had worked another day. Most go with regrets of words not spoken, time not spent with loved ones, places they didn’t see and risks not taken. Look at your life as a piece of artwork, with each brush stroke being a breath from the Universe to create your beautiful masterpiece. When I think of happiness, it means living each moment to the fullest with a childlike heart and playing this game of life with no fear. Trusting in your creative HeART to lead you on whatever unique adventures are meant for you. Ask yourself, if money was no object how would you spend your time? Where would you travel? What would you accomplish? These are the things that only you can discover deep in the stillness of your spirit. To create your HeART’s desire, you must put your thoughts and dreams into action. The first step to that is writing them down and creating your “Bucket List”. As you begin to cross each milestone off, continue to add to this never-ending tally of your life’s journey. You will then begin to achieve what once seemed impossible. Winner of our Photo Contest Holly Coop, with her image titled “Leaping Out of My Fears and Into My Purpose,” said it best about her photo. “This is a woman ready to take a leap, to jump outside of her fears and into her purpose. Finally standing on her own two feet.”

BUCKET LIST They say you shouldn’t end this ride, With all your life’s music still inside, So they insist, that you write a bucket list. It’s a list of goals and things to do, Before the bucket is kicked by you, So nothing is missed, write a bucket list. My list was customized for my personal style, I kept adding to it all the while, Anything I couldn’t resist, I added to my bucket list. I saw spacious homes and sleek-looking cars, Tropical islands where you could see all the stars, And I said, “I gotta put this, on my bucket list.” I tasted flavors of ice cream that melted and dripped, While I was driving my convertible fully equipped, And I said, “I gotta put this, on my bucket list.”

I heard voices sing songs that were tender and sweet, And music that invited me to tap my feet, And I said, “I gotta put this, on my bucket list.” I sniffed gardens of flowers for potpourri, Selected interesting courses for a college degree, And I said, “I gotta put this, on my bucket list.” I saw the fast lane and heard the starter’s gun, And I saw those long muscular legs on the run, And I said, “I gotta put this, on my bucket list.” I had fast driving, sky diving, and bungee jumping, And other adventures to keep my heart pumping, Until tragedy hit and I said, “I gotta fix my bucket list.” It doesn’t matter if tragedy was a great big fall, Or a tiny stumble or a short-term crawl, The point is, it was a wake-up call. I had a long list, once upon a time. I narrowed it down to peace of mind. And I said, “I can live and die with this.” The music inside me still keeps me thrilled, But peace of mind keeps me fulfilled. And I said, “I’ve completed my bucket list.” Don’t you worry, don’t you fret I don’t think death is upon me yet Cause peace of mind, is on eternal time. That’s it, that’s my bucket list! [LIVING IN FULL CIRCLE HARMONY]

LIVING IN HARMONY The Vata Yogi by Shannon Chada Just as a yoga practice is unique to each individual, so is the art of being in-tune with our doshas. We are all different in mind and body; and our yoga practice should be a unique devotion to our over-all wellness. Using supportive asanas (postures), pranayama (breath-work), nutritional choices, herbs, spices and essential oils specific to your dosha is an important aspect of your yoga practice. This month our attention is on the Vata Dosha, which governs the movement of all things. We experience Vata with a creative “on the go” enthusiastic attitude. Vata is cold, dry, light, subtle, flowing, mobile, sharp, hard, rough and clear. Ruled by the elements the air and ether, Vata can be the life of the party– flexible, light-hearted and ready to take initiative. When it’s in flux, it may tend towards anxiety, nervousness, overwhelm, and worry; or the ego may out act out as privileged and self-righteous. Vata is primarily located in the colon, thighs, hips, ears, bones and organs of touch. It gives life to all things. It is responsible for breathing, movement, flexibility and biological processes. It governs the nervous system and sensory functions. Examples of emotional and physical Vata Overflow are: anxiety, addiction, moodiness, fatigue, insomnia, aches and pain in the body, osteoarthritis, dehydration, dry skin and hair, brittle nails, light or painful menses, sensitivity to cold, and constipation. Excessive Vata can be counterbalanced with nutritious and tissue-building foods that are warm, moist, heavy, soft and oily, as well as foods with a sweet, sour and salty taste. A person with a Vata constitution should favor foods like hot cereal with ghee, hearty soups, vegetables, whole cooked grains and chapatis. Spicy foods are generally fine for Vata. Vata would want to steer away from aggravating foods, such as: crackers, frozen desserts, and large amounts of raw vegetables and salads. Also refined foods, such as white flour and sugar, have light and dry qualities that would be best avoided by people with Vata constitutions. Pungent, bitter, astringent foods, as well as light, dry, cold foods, stimulants including smoking, alcohol, junk food, sugar, tea (especially long leaf teas and green tea) and brown rice will all aggravate Vata.

To help balance Vata Dosha in your Yoga Practice: • Use grounded and slow moving asanas, exploring fluidity with gentle movement like spinal twists, rotation in the joints,

operating flexion and extension actions. Stay warm, do not over extend or replete energy, instead stay connected to the Earth and focus on lengthening inhalation and exhalation. Try mountain pose, tree pose, forward bends, legs up the wall, along with Supine Twists to support digestion and elevation to adrenal and urinary systems. • If Vata is out of balance choose asanas that focus on the lower abdominal region (from the navel down) such as pacimottanasa (seated forward bend), pavanamuktasana (wind-release pose) and marjaryasana (cat-cow pose). • When selecting essential oils to support Vata, choose sweet warming oils that enhance serenity, soothe emotions and the mind– geranium, ylang-ylang, sweet orange, frankincense, chamomile, cinnamon, eucalyptus, ginger, jasmine, patchouli, rosewood, sandalwood, vetiver and rose. If you are looking to take your yoga wellness journey deeper and are interested in working with an Ayurvedic Professional, I highly recommend Karla Cain of Satvic Sage, www.sattvicsage.com. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER November 2017 by Kaye Berjot

Overview This month promises to take you to a place of wishful and fruitful thinking. It will take some work to get there, as you will be required to change how you bring people into your ecosystem. In the past, people were allowed to enter your network simply because you were an admirable person with good intentions. This time around, they will have to prove their worth. A full moon in Taurus on Nov. 4 will make you look at your true values and give you a discerning eye to see if others share those same values. The new moon in Scorpio will require you to take a good long look at how you trust others. You can trust some yet you can’t trust them all. The last day of the month will end the same way the month began. Hold true to your values, know your worth and let others prove theirs. Neptune turns direct on the 22nd indicating that you will definitely have to discern the difference between fact and fiction. Don’t be shy. Check out www.astro.com to take a look at your own natal charts. Find out how particular areas in your life are being influenced by planetary changes. * Please see the end of the month for information about the Moon Void of Course (VoC).

Wednesday, November 01 The moon in Aries opposes Mars in Libra today requiring you to balance your efforts against those of others. You might feel a little stubborn when it comes to negotiating relationship dynamics even though you want them to progress. The opposing Venus and Uranus aspect could require a revolutionary in your approach to love and values, especially when looking for common ground that works for you and them. Moon VoC ends 12:42 am entering Aries.

Thursday, November 02 As the moon inches closer and closer to Uranus and opposes Venus temperatures could rise. You might have a feeling that you are compromising too much and that the other person isn’t really compromising at all. If you want relationships to flourish, then you’re going to have to provide your own definition of what understanding looks like because you are teaching and learning all at the same time. When you teach someone how to love you; you will learn how to love them back. Moon VoC 9:03 PM until tomorrow.

Friday, November 03 When the moon enters Taurus, it opposes the Sun, Jupiter and Venus in Libra and 26

Scorpio. This gives you a glimpse at where you need to begin planting new seeds to acquire the change that you really want to see. You’re not going to be able to haphazardly do things; you’ll have to anchor with purpose in order to get the most out of the experience. Moon VoC until 3:46 AM entering Taurus.

Saturday, November 04 Intuition is at an all time high when the moon opposes Jupiter and the Sun. The incentives that you seek will be brought into the light. To acquire those incentives and make true progress a major overhaul will be required. See the advantages and disadvantages of taking the approach that has been chosen and if something doesn’t feel right keep mulling it over until find another way. There is no shortage of options so make sure to look at them all. Full Moon in Taurus at 12:23 AM.

Sunday, November 05 The moon positively aspects Pluto today providing you with a concrete opportunity to build a new pattern in your life. This is a pattern that is filled with hope rather than illusion. You have gone through enough cycles, and at this point in your life, you can decipher what’s fact and what’s fiction. Moon VoC 3:28 AM until 4:26 AM entering Gemini.

Monday, November 06 When the moon in Gemini squares Neptune in Pisces give yourself permission to hear the truth. Even when the truth isn’t explicitly said, it’s there, so listen up. You know the difference between a lie and wishful thinking especially when someone wants you to listen to what they are saying rather than deciphering what it is that they actually mean.

Tuesday, November 07 As the moon exits Gemini and prepares to enter into Cancer it squares the karmic planet Saturn. It’s as though you have a telepathic connection to all kindred spirits around you. Now you finally understand what it is that your connected group of intellects is trying to bring to fruition. Moon VoC 4:39 AM until 4:44 AM entering Cancer.

Wednesday, November 08

Monday, November 13

There is a kite in the sky involving the Moon in Cancer, Venus, Jupiter, The Sun, Saturn, Pluto and Neptune. The reason there are so many planets involved in this kite is due to conjunctions between Venus, Jupiter and the Sun. You are changing the way you allow people to enter your life. This time around trust will be earned and not blindly given. Moon VoC 11:14 PM until tomorrow.

When the moon squares Saturn, you realize that the traditional system just won’t fit the requirements of the new paradigm. It’s clear that you must change in order to succeed. Adaption isn’t an option. It’s a must. Moon VoC 9:45 AM until 5:26 PM entering Libra

Thursday, November 09 The moon in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn while squaring Venus, Jupiter and Uranus. Scorpio isn’t always the most optimistic of signs. However, it is a sign that requires you to transform your tactics for goal achievement. You can’t change all things, but you can change your frequency so that you can be on the same wave as other. Moon VoC until 6:29 AM entering Leo.

Friday, November 10 The moon is on a journey towards the north node in Leo today where it makes a positive aspect to Mercury in Sagittarius. You have a tingling feeling that you are on the right track even as you scrutinize the pictures that others have painted. Not all information is there, but it will do for now. Additional details will be provided later so work with what you’ve got for now.

Saturday, November 11 Just because you start out in one direction doesn’t mean that you must stay that course, especially when a more lucrative offer arises. The fire trine with the Moon, Saturn and Uranus are adding addition inspiration that could be absolutely contagious for anyone that comes into contact with you. Moon VoC 2:55 AM until 10:41 AM entering Virgo.

Sunday, November 12 Today the moon in Virgo positively aspects Pluto in Capricorn; these two earthly signs have something in common, in that, they want to evaluate what works and what doesn’t work on the material landscape. This could represent a lucrative financial proposition.

Tuesday, November 14 Jupiter and Venus work together today in Scorpio. It looks like you have the chance to get what you want. Finally your values and principles are in alignment with the collective goals. This isn’t a dream; it’s reality.

Wednesday, November 15 While Jupiter and Venus perform a happy dance, the Moon and Mars square off against Pluto. People seem overly confident that you can perform miracles, therefore raising your stress meter exponentially. Recognize that everyone plays a role in this story. Not all burdens fall squarely on your shoulders. Moon VoC 6:50 PM until tomorrow.

Thursday, November 16 Mars is in less of a fighting mood today as it makes a positive aspect to Mercury. You become master communicator today, which is very much needed. Some individuals could feel as though their foundations have been rocked, which is why your communication skills are necessary. Communicate change in a positive way because it will help you and it will help others. Moon VoC until 2:18 AM entering Scorpio.

Friday, November 17 Mercury and Saturn have a direct line to Uranus today. What seems like chaos is actually innovation and at a very minimum progress. You can’t move forward if you stand in one place, eventually you’ll need to walk the talk of which you speak.

Saturday, November 18 With a new moon comes new opportunities to move up the ladder of prosperity. You’ll need to learn to communicate like an entrepreneur, who is starting a business from the ground up. The only manual available is the one that you create. How exciting! New Moon 5:42 AM in Scorpio. Moon VoC 5:42 AM until 12:59 PM entering Sagittarius. CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

Sunday, November 19

Wednesday, November 22

Take some time today to fully digest everything that has occurred over the past couple of days. The energy and excitement from the previous week didn’t really offer any downtime, therefore take a little bit of time today to let it all sink in.

The Sun wakes up at 0 degrees Sagittarius today, indicating that a level of understanding is about to begin. You don’t know what you’re going to learn over the next 30 days. Yet whatever it is, a fire will be ignited inside of you that will catapult you towards successful outcomes. Make sure to speak that you do so with knowledge and understanding, otherwise it’ll come across as naïve and foolish.

Monday, November 20 The Moon, Mercury and Saturn are hanging out together in Sagittarius and positively aspecting Uranus. Now that you’ve begun to digest what these new adaptations to life mean to you, you’ll begin to grasp what needs to be dismantled and what needs to be rebuilt. Moon VoC 6:26 PM until tomorrow.

Tuesday, November 21 The sun sits all alone in Scorpio at 29 degrees. This is a symbol of completion and mastery. It’s mastery of the darkness, so that you could climb the ladder towards a brighter future. Moon VoC until 1:14 AM enters Capricorn.

NOVEMBER 2017

Thursday, November 23 Today nothing is like it was a year ago. There are new people at your table, new values and essentially a newly awakened you. Somehow it all just works. Moon VoC 4:33 AM until 2:14 PM enters Aquarius.

Friday, November 24 Within your new community you could feel a tad bit overwhelmed. If there were hostile or over the top characters at last night’s dinner party, you could be feeling a little frantic. That’s because your barriers were down in order to connect on a vibrational level. You can put those boundaries back up whenever you’d like.

Saturday, November 25 The collective wants you to succeed today, even if they have very strong opinions on how you should go about interacting with others. Remember that everyone has an opinion, and they are entitled to it. However, with that said, if they don’t realize how their opinions are blatantly working your last nerve then you are well within your rights to defend your position or to steer clear of the debate by exiting stage left. Moon VoC 8:37 PM until tomorrow.

Sunday, November 26 When Mercury and Saturn communicate in Sagittarius they talk about building solid foundations, they discuss go forward plans and they discuss innovative ideas. Taking the opportunity to see a concept build out from end to end is the path towards prosperity. Moon VoC 2:04 AM enters Pisces

Monday, November 27 Today is much like yesterday in that you are still in planning mode. The only real

difference is that you are one day closer to your start or launch date. Remember that whatever you are planning to put into motion as a very short window of opportunity for success; in other words, strike while the iron is hot.

Tuesday, November 28 Yikes! The moon is sitting smack dab on top of Chiron today. You’re getting an opportunity to emotionally heal any limiting thoughts that may have kept you from previous success. Don’t let fear incapacitate you. Moon VoC 6:08 AM until 10:30 AM enters Aries.

Wednesday, November 29 The Moon in Aries squares Pluto, Mercury and Saturn causing you to stick to your guns, concerning the most appropriate paths to take. This means that you will more than likely only look at calculated risks that have the best chance of succeeding.

Thursday, November 30 The Moon opposes Mars today ending the month much in the same way it began. Renegotiated relationships will be put to the test next month. Here’s to hoping that we’ve moved all of the chess pieces to their appropriate places on the board. Moon VoC 12:37 PM until 2:38 PM enters Taurus. The Moon Void of Course (VoC) is the time period from when the Moon makes its last aspect in one sign before moving into the next sign. The Moon is the fastest-moving planet, and transitions from one sign into the next every 1 to 3 days. What that means is that the Moon is constantly in motion, it’s never retrograde, so it’s inevitable that she will connect with “something,” i.e. another planet or transit, until the moment that she doesn’t. During the moments when she doesn’t connect, we call it the Moon Void of Course. When these events occur, the best things to do are to meditate, sit still and listen to your higher guidance. Sitting still does not mean to physically sit still, although that can be beneficial.

SWEET POTATOES and BUTTERNUT SQUASH by Janae Jean

It’s November, and the holiday season is beginning. Thanksgiving leftovers don’t have to boring. This month we have two flavorful takes on family dinner staples, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. The first, Curried Sweet Potatoes, adds Eastern flair to a Western favorite, thanks to blended curry spices. The second, Savory Butternut Squash soup, takes an often bland soup and gives it a kick with ginger and cayenne pepper.

all four tablespoons of the spice blend, but you can use one, two or three tablespoons of it depending on taste. Blend the coconut milk mixture well and pour on top of the vegetables, making sure to coat them evenly.

SWEET POTATOES Many people think that sweet potatoes and yams are the same root vegetable, but they are not. Yams are from Africa and are similar in texture to white russet potatoes. Sweet potatoes originate in the Americas. Sweet potatoes are high in vitamin A, beta-carotene and iron. They are effective at controlling blood sugar and their potassium content helps to lower blood pressure. According to the National Institute of Health, they have been found to have anti-carcinogenic properties.

Butternut squash is a popular late fall and winter vegetable with a sweet flavor. It is a member of the gourd family, which includes pumpkin, melon, cucumber, as well as other squashes. It is native to North America and is thought to have been cultivated in Massachusetts, making it a perfect addition to a Thanksgiving meal. It contains high levels of potassium and anti-oxidants. Its high fiber content makes it beneficial for digestion, and the ginger in this recipe makes it even better for any after-Thanksgiving tummy-aches.

Curried Sweet Potato Casserole

Savory Butternut Squash Soup

BUTTERNUT SQUASH

½ tsp. ground black pepper

2 cups low sodium vegetable or chicken broth

Curry Spice Blend 3 tbsp. turmeric

1 tsp. paprika

1 tsp. cumin

1 tsp. ground ginger

Preheat oven to 350°F

Stir together all ingredients (except basil) in a large soup pot. Bring the pot to a boil and simmer for 30-45 minutes, until all vegetables are tender. Pour mixture into blender or food processor and purée. Serve hot with chopped fresh basil as garnish.

Slice sweet potatoes into ¼ inch rounds. Set the rounds into two layers in an eight inch casserole pan. Place the green bell pepper slices on top of the sweet potatoes. In a bowl blend together the coconut milk with the lemon (or lime) juice, the salt, the pepper and the curry blend. If you like spicy food use

Overtones and Undercurrents:

Creating Harmony Within by Serge Mazerand ($19.95, BookBaby, Paperback) “We are the instruments that create the sounds of our lives.” Serge Mazerand compares our lives to music to explain how, as vibrational beings, we must accept responsibility for composing our “orchestras”: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life. He emphasizes that during this time of uncertainty that we currently live in, we must learn to create awareness and master the “bodymind” connection to live in a state of serenity.

Spirituality, Reincarnation, and Ancestor Influence in Entheogenic Psychotherapy by Ralph Metzner Ph.D.

The Power of Infinite Love & Gratitude: An Evolutionary Journey

($16.95, Park Street Press, Paperback)

Weissman ($18.95, Hay House, Paperback)

With over 50 years of experiences as a transpersonal psychotherapist, Ralph Metzner has a lot of knowledge to share. For example, he claims that many psychological problems are due to things such as prenatal imprints, psychic intrusions and ancestral connections—factors that conventional psychotherapy does not take into consideration. He shares 15 case histories from his years as a psychotherapist when he used practices such as guided regressions, psychedelics and meditation to help his clients.

The Dreamlife of Families:

The Psychospiritual Connection by Edward Bruce Bynum Ph.D., ABPP ($18.95, Inner Traditions, Paperback) Have you ever experienced the same repetitive nightmare as a loved one? According to Edward Bruce Bynum, this is no coincidence. Combining traditional dream analysis, varying forms of psychology, and even clinical science, Bynum shows how personal unconscious (which is reflected in dreams) is intertwined with the unconscious of our families. He explains how this shared reality can manifest itself in illnesses, shared dreams, telepathic experiences, during medical crises and more. With this knowledge, readers are given the opportunity to pinpoint family patterns and begin the healing process. 30

Luckily, Andrea Brandt reminds us that we have control over our lives and that we don’t need to let poor stereotypes dictate how we live. She teaches readers how to become mindful of aging through various exercises that help one to embrace it. She also shares inspiring stories of real people who have used these practices to claim their joy and age without losing their enthusiasm for life.

Kayla Hancock is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Reiki Practitioner and certified Deeksha giver who enjoys working alongside her angels and spirit guides to bring more love and compassion into the world.
