PUBLISHER’S LETTER

THE SACRED FEMININE O

ur May issue focuses on women’s health and the Divine Feminine, and I would like to share with you how I discovered the Divine Feminine. When I was nine years old, my mom moved to the U.S, so I needed to take care of my three younger siblings and our house. I was constantly multi-tasking, and I’ve been living that busy way most of my life. Consequently, I have experienced burnout twice and have had a few accidents that have encouraged me to stop and re-evaluate my life. When I did this, I realized that I have been living in a masculine way, instead of being a woman and honoring the Goddess inside me. This is how I found the Divine Feminine. The Divine Feminine is sometimes referred to as the “Sacred Feminine” or the “Goddess.” The Goddess is the feminine aspect of the Divine, of humanity, of life, and of creation itself. As women, we are its expression and representation; we are an extension and a reflection of this feminine energy. Likewise, men are an expression of the masculine aspect of the Divine. The masculine and feminine aspects reveal themselves in different ways. The Divine Masculine energy is the very active, striving, and motivated part of the Divine and us. It is the more responsible, protective part of our nature. The masculine is also the thinker, strategist, and intellect; it is the doer, provider, and giver.

KATARZYNA (KASIA) SZUMAL PUBLISHER

The Divine Feminine energy is the passive energy. It is the still and receptive side of ourselves. It is the intuitive wisdom as opposed to the intellect; the receiver as opposed to the giver; “being” rather than “doing.” Also, it is stillness as opposed to action. We see greed, disruption, and hate around us because we have been living in a world where the feminine has been subjugated, denounced, and neither honored nor respected for centuries. Without its true counterpart next to it in perfect balance and harmony, what we see is the distorted, twisted, and unbalanced masculine aspect. This unbalanced masculine aspect is unable to show itself as the Divine Masculine without its feminine counterpart to balance it. I am calling on all of you to balance the scales and return to the Divine Feminine by being loving, accepting, and forgiving of yourself and other humans. To discover more about the Divine Feminine and its power to transform our world, turn to Julie Brannen’s article, Embodying Unconditional Love: The Space of New Earth. To learn how women can take better care of their physical hearts, read, 5 Tips for a Healthy Heart for Women by Dr. Jennifer Mieres and Dr. Stacey Rosen. Additionally, Betsy Brun shares some heartfelt memories of her mother and two recipes for comfort food that are also good for our health in, Healthy Eating: Comforting Mom with Good Food. Enjoy the May issue! Until next time,

Kasia Szumal

[COMMUNITY Q&A]

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q: We are a couple in our mid-50s

who’s been married for 22 years. My relationship is great with my wife, except when it comes to desire; she doesn’t seem to have any. I’m concerned that something’s wrong between us. Why doesn’t she feel anything for me? — Patiently Waiting A: Dear Patiently Waiting, I wouldn’t necessarily go straight to the thought that “she doesn’t feel anything for me.” That could be the case, but it’s important to confirm what’s going on by having some honest conversations. There are potentially a couple of streams feeding into this river that you can discuss. You’re in a long-term marriage which can sometimes turn quite routine and mundane from familiarity. If you find that you can predict with amazing accuracy what your days and nights are going to be like in your interactions and conversations, you might want to consider how you can freshen things up a bit by changing the routine. Oftentimes, merely relating to each other in unexpected ways with intimate conversation churns up new feelings which can build new magnetism into the relationship. Being attentive to her long before you want to be intimate also helps create a deeper connection. Many couples your age experience the same thing. It’s quite often related to the hormonal changes happening in the woman’s body as she enters menopause and much less about “not feeling something” for her spouse. A phrase that I came up

with years ago that seems to resonate with many women is, “I want to want to.” There’s still a desire to connect in sexually intimate ways, but it’s like the pilot light has been extinguished and the flame has to be relit and coaxed back. A patient and present husband, who wishes to encourage, engage, and understand (rather than blame her for the changes in her body), will make her feel safe. The truth is that she’s often more aware and disappointed in those changes than you are. If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got. It’s important to change things up by creating a safe space to have these emotionally sensitive conversations. Then you can build bridges of understanding that consciously create paths to move forward together in new ways towards intimacy.

A confrontation is a “clash” of closed energy that sets up defenses, often insinuating that someone is “being nailed for doing something wrong.” A conversation is an “exchange” that generally has the more open energies of curiosity and respect. It also contains the desire to work things out for better understanding and resolution toward a better relationship. Of course we can be hurt or upset about things that need to be addressed regarding our dignity and self-respect, especially when we’re looking for certain painful behaviors or patterns to end. This can set up dread and tension in our minds and bodies. How we proceed with the encounter can make all the difference in the world as to how it’s ultimately received by the other individual. A few tips for energy management when approaching the conversation to ease tensions: • Identify thoughts/feelings ahead of time that are draining emotional charges— this will help to ease your tone. • Be firm on the issues and soft on the person—use “I” statements, instead of accusatory “you” statements, e.g. “I feel...” instead of “You did…” • State your issue neutrally, then openly listen to their perspective. • Ask questions to clarify.

Q: I hate confrontations in my relation-

ships. They jangle my mind and body and make me nervous. I don’t want to run away and know that I need to show up for them, but I would like to do so in a more conscious way. How do I get better about dealing with them? — Jangled A: Dear Jangled, Confrontations in relationships certainly aren’t fun. To respond to the tension, I’ve learned to reframe them as “conversations” rather than “confrontations.” This can make an energetic difference in how we approach and receive one another. You can probably sense the difference in your body when you consider these two words.

• Try not to take things personally. • Be accountable for your imperfections. Disagreements create tension that can separate us. When we address them with thoughtful consideration, forethought, and respect, tensions may be released for both parties…ultimately nurturing deeper bonds of connection. UNIQUELY THE SAME by Jakeb Brock

One of the most mysterious qualities about human life is that, on one hand, we are each a unique individual. While on the other hand, we are all the same. As separate people populating this planet, we number eight billion. As a created collective entity, we are one. This paradoxical truth about who we are affects us in many ways. It can make human life interesting and intriguing. At the same time, it injects life with a kind of tension. Not only are we uniquely the same; we are also, simultaneously, solitary and social creatures. We are compelled to relate meaningfully with others. Yet, we are always aware that we are separate and alone—that we each have an inner makeup that no other human being shares. 8

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

As we go through life, our awareness of both of these seemingly irreconcilable aspects of our being increases. Our relationships deepen and become more fulfilling, and our sense of self-knowledge expands. Meanwhile, the more that our selfknowledge expands, the more we realize how unique and alone we really are. Our uniqueness resonates from deep within us and then works its way out into expression. Its most obvious manifestation is our physical body. It is an amazing biological fact that though all human beings are basically alike in appearance (that is to say, we all walk upright on two legs, have two arms, etc.), when we look more closely, we see that we are all at least slightly different. We each have differing

body attributes, facial features, etc. No two of us are exactly alike—not even so-called identical twins. This is because, scientifically speaking, we all were born with a unique genetic code or DNA. One way that this unique genetic code expresses itself is in our physical body. Another aspect of our uniqueness involves our sensual perception. Not only is each of our bodies at least a little different, but also, no two of us perceive life in quite the same way. This has been proven through extensive psychological research, but it really needs no proof as it is quite obvious. The fact that we each perceive things a little differently also means that we will have unique responses to those perceptions. Our thoughts and emotions will be uniquely our own. This is one of the reasons that relationships can be difficult at times. We tend to assume that our friend or mate should be able to relate to and share our thoughts and emotions, but they do not have the same frame of reference as ours to do so. Their perceptions of life are completely different than ours, and therefore, so are their responses. These unique aspects of our human persona are not necessarily reflective of our spiritual state of consciousness. However, out of our unique perceptions and responses, we form other unique defining attributes of self, such as opinions, likes and dislikes, values, and judgments. These mentally constructed positions are what make up our personality and ego. They tend to pile up over time and become layered and complex. They build upon and expand our sense of separateness and aloneness. Moreover, these egoic (ego-like) aspects of us are reflective of our state of consciousness.

Are these ideas about myself “that I have been clinging to

(my long-held opinions, likes and dislikes, judgments, etc.) who I really am? What would happen to me if I just let them go? How would I define myself without them?”

The fact that we so readily indulge in the formation of selfdefining values, opinions, and judgments is expressive of a state of consciousness—a state of consciousness that is largely dualistic and isolationist. In this egoic state of consciousness, we not only build and express these mental positions, but we also hug them closely to ourselves. Eventually, we come to view life exclusively through the lens of their influence. For example, when getting to know a new friend, we find ourselves freely sharing our likes, dislikes, preferences, etc. We might say, “I like going for walks at sunset.” Or, “I love eating watermelon on a hot summer day.” As our friendship deepens, our sharing deepens as well and becomes more bound up with our opinions and judgments. might then say, “It makes me really mad when someone says that to me.” Or, “I think people who do things like that ought to be locked up.” Interestingly, just voicing statements of our thoughts causes our opinions to solidify and become more defining of who we think we are. Once this happens, we begin to be dominated by our ego as if it were someone separate from us and always insisting to have its way. We begin to feel trapped and restricted by our defined sense of self, and with these conflicting sensations comes an overall sense of being fractured and divided inside. This helplessness about not being able to break out of the box of our encrusted self-image can lead to problems. It can turn our social life into an unpleasant game of oneupmanship. We may find ourselves feeling constantly defensive as we seek unconsciously to justify who we think we are. We may even become combative. The biggest problem spawned by an encrusted ego is probably that it makes us feel increasingly self-contemptuous, which in turn, makes us feel more and more isolated and alone. When this happens, we might find ourselves withdrawing from social activity—even when we desire and need it. We may pull back from others under the pretense that they do not like or accept who we are. They do not agree with our opinions or appreciate our viewpoint. Thus we become experientially victimized by our ego. What is the way out of this self-made prison? We must take our self-knowledge to a new level. We must uncover and examine our unconscious inner impulses and be willing to look at ourselves in an entirely new way. How do we do this? We start by asking ourselves: “Are these ideas about myself that I have been clinging to (my long-held opinions, likes and dislikes, judgments, etc.) who I really am? What would happen to me if I just let them go? How would I define myself without them?” By the simple act of being willing to detach ourselves from these self-defining ideas about who we are, we instigate a revolutionary rearrangement of our inner world. Though it may seem that there is nothing inside of us waiting in the wings to take the place of these ideas and that if we let them go we will be like an empty shell of a human being, this is not true. There is indeed something waiting in the wings. It is our spiritual consciousness—that part of us that is one with not only other human beings, but all life. It is in all of us. While it may not carry around the baggage of self-defining ideas about itself, it does have a personality of its own—a personality expressive of sameness or oneness. The state of consciousness in which our ego dominates our perceptions is a dualistic, divisive, and combative one. In this state of consciousness, our individuality and sense of separateness are prominent while our sense of sameness is, in truth, nothing more than an intellectual concept—one that we give assent to but do not really experience on a deep level. In contrast to this, as we detach ourselves from our egoic perspective and begin to move in the new ego-less consciousness 10

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

of Self, we begin to feel more connected and at peace. Our sense of sameness becomes prominent. It becomes more than an intellectual concept in our minds; it becomes who we are. We experience it as a state of consciousness—one that soon comes to define who we are as individuals. Thus our individuality and uniqueness do not disappear. They are still there, and we are still aware of them at any given moment. But they cease to call the shots in our experience. They no longer tend toward isolationism and divisiveness. This revolutionary rearrangement of our inner landscape and perspective also constitutes an evolutionary unfoldment of consciousness. So there is an element of needing to be ready for it. Willing ourselves to do it in our natural human strength will not, by itself, bring it to pass. But being both willing and ready will turn the trick. What does it mean to be ready? Generally speaking, this implies that we have come to a point of weariness and frustration with our former egoic perspective. We are tired of the sense of smallness and entrapment that come with the egoic orientation. We may even catch ourselves the next time we utter some long-held defining idea of Self and feel like, “That’s not me anymore; that’s just something I have been believing about myself for as long as I can remember.” When this happens to us, we will have recourse to examine some of our other self-defining beliefs and be able to let those go. Our conscious awareness will then go on high alert so that we do not even need to speak out loud. We can simply watch our thoughts and let go of them within ourselves. Once the ego is exposed and its self-definitions debunked, we will see clearly that none of that stuff is really who we are. Our true identity is universal spiritual consciousness. We also will see clearly that our egoic perspective had been a form of enslavement. Thus this transition of consciousness is also liberating. Our former perspective of “I-me-mine,” and the sense of confinement and restriction it carried, give way to one that is greatly expansive and free. Our smallness and narrowness of mind are shattered, revealing infinite and limitless horizons. The mystery is that, as human beings living on this earthly plane, the sense of individuality and separateness never entirely dissipates. We each continue to be a unique offshoot of humanity with a unique genetic code, set of sensual perceptions, and our own responses. All that we lose is the content of our ego—content that was never real to begin with. This loss is sure to make us into a totally different person. No longer will we build walls of exclusion and isolation around ourselves. Instead of our uniqueness being a divisive wedge between us and others, it will be a cause for celebration and enjoyment. Hurt, discord, and strife will no longer color our experience. We will still be unique, but we will be uniquely the same. EMBODYING UNCONDITIONAL LOVE The Space of New Earth by Julie Brannen Imagine for a moment a space where you could say anything, do anything, be anything. Imagine that you are held in deep compassion, reverence, and approval of your darkest aspects. Imagine that you are deeply seen, heard, felt, and understood without judgment, or fear of persecution or retribution. Imagine that you are infinitely loved. This space exists. It is a perspective, a movement, a consciousness, an age. Some call it the “New Earth.” In this increasingly hostile, corrupt, and aggressive sociopolitical climate, these seeming ideals of the past are fully present and commanding our attention. With greater awareness, any imbalanced energy is shifting at a rapid rate. The call to balance is active within and among us. We must 12

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

acknowledge our relationship to the following truths, as parts of a whole: darkness and light, negative and positive, victim and power, abused and sovereign being, destruction and creation, death and life, feminine and masculine. We are rising to a new level of evolution. We acknowledge our fears of stepping into our full power, living from our authentic hearts, and awakening our true gifts. This fear can only be held in the light of unconditional love. The light of our souls guides us on. This is significant because we can choose our unique path to celebrate and love ourselves while grounding in lasting collective change. The time is now to embody these ideals for the highest evolution of our species and the goodness of our planet. The time is now.

Whether you are well-versed in the language of the “New Earth” or are new to the name, we are all on similar journeys. It is your human birthright to liberate yourself from the baggage you’ve carried in this lifetime and others. Walking the spiritual path is an individual and intimate quest to consciously deepen your insights about life. The journey can help you walk the high road to better understand your passions and purpose for being here and to follow your bliss. These 11 themes are what I have observed to be markers of guidance on the quest. May they help you in some way—by providing a message, deepening a knowing, opening a new realm of perspective and/or blessing on your way. 1. Be grateful. Live as if all your dreams can come true at this moment. A daily gratitude practice can begin to create waves of change. Begin anywhere. You’d be surprised how the process unfolds. 2. Be present. Now is all we have. Our body is only held in the present. Our breath is experienced in this moment. 3. Seek balance. As above, so below, inside and out, light and shadow, yin and yang…When we integrate these polarities, we find a sense of harmony within. Nothing is cast away anymore, but everything inside our hearts and minds is welcomed and loved. 4. Set intentions; intentions are powerful prayers. When we are learning, our brain creates new neural pathways into different areas of functioning and processing. When we set an intention, this triggers a specific neural pathway to set us up for success. When we practice the power of intention, we obtain keys to doors that we didn’t know to which we had access. We plant sacred seeds in the soil of our heart’s desires. We trust; and let go of any need for control or attachment to a certain outcome.

7. Forgive: let go or be dragged. Forgiveness is an in-depth process of peeling back the layers of guilt and shame from our past. It is important to note that forgiveness is not about saying that what happened is okay, it is about setting both you and the other person who wronged you, free. It is about releasing anything we are holding onto that blocks us from our highest potential. It always begins with ourselves; to show kindness to the person with whom we will spend the most time within this life. It is to look in the mirror and be the biggest cheerleader, confidante, and courageous master. It is to look deep inside your heart to find both the ache and the pain. It is to know that peace is possible with others and the world when we make peace with ourselves. 8. Truth: the truth shall set you free. Our truth is what we feel in our guts to be real. At our essence, we are all one. While we share a greater truth, we each have individual truths so that we may contribute to the world in our unique ways. 9. Trust in love. The first time a butterfly spreads her wings, she has no idea that she can fly. She simply opens and lifts off. We must trust ourselves in this way. Sometimes risks in life take the utmost trust in ourselves, in our resources, in our universe, and Divine will. If it feels like your life situation is in a dark place, or full of hardships right now, it might be difficult for you to trust. However, this is where the magic of trust comes into play. When we open ourselves to the frequency of trust and surrender, then we will begin to relax into what is without resistance. We will be able to clear our minds and the next step (or flight) shall be seen. 10. Evolution: the only constant is change. It is clear to me that we are on this Earth to learn and grow. Our purpose in this human experiment is to evolve our consciousness so that we can evolve the consciousness for the well-being of all.

5. Energy is everything. It is all the same source in different forms. It flows and changes form constantly. This is Universal law. It is everywhere, and it can neither be created nor destroyed. There is a place where all things begin, a location of pure energy that simply is. Imagine how much mastery we can have over our lives when we can study and master our own energetic fields.

11. Freedom: liberate yourself from your prison. Some of the basic human rights are to be free from want, pain, and suffering. In spiritual eyes, these are the same intentions. It is our birthright to be free. It is our birthright to be liberated from suffering. It is vital on our journey to find aspects, persons, places, or things that allow us to step into this free place. We all deserve to be free. But only you can free yourself. If you tend to give your power to others, be careful. Find what’s freeing in your heart, and follow that.

6. Be compassionate. Compassion is not the relationship between the healer and wounded, it is a relationship between equals. As teachings go, we must extend compassion to ourselves first, before giving to others. Compassion is noticing this gap and witnessing it with loving-kindness.

A FRESH START IN LIFE Mindful Awakenings for the Heart by Sandy Daliege Spring is a time of new awakenings, a promise of good things coming to life. The same applies to your personal life as well. Every moment is a new beginning, a fresh start to open up to wonderful opportunities. In the same way that you need to clear out the clutter in your junk drawer or spare bedroom, you need to declutter your heart to make room for new beauty. If your heart has been broken, it can leave a feeling that the damage is too great to repair. Nothing is beyond repair. You are an incredibly resilient human being and when you treat yourself with love and compassion, you can heal all wounds; for love is the great healer. The way we look at an event, a person, or even ourselves, makes a difference. Mindfulness can be helpful with this process. Mindfulness is focusing your conscious awareness on what’s happening in your life. You can be mindful of the present moment or even a past event and focus on enjoying its beauty. Or, you can go in the other direction, critiquing all that’s wrong with the experience. 14

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

Perhaps you’ve experienced this scenario. You’re having lunch with a friend. You’re enjoying the moment, the surroundings, your food and friend, when suddenly your friend begins to point out what he or she doesn’t like? The waiter is too slow, the food is too cold, and on and on? Are you able to continue enjoying the moment or has the experience lost its sparkle? This is what we do with our lives sometimes. We miss all the beauty when we allow someone else’s point of view to take away our joy or when we allow our own inner critic to begin its rant. How do you look at life? Are you harsh and critical of yourself, demanding perfection? Do you treat others in the same way with unreasonable expectations? We all have incredible beauty within us and when we begin to focus on those qualities, we become our own best friend, rather than the critic who’s never satisfied. Your Soul has the conscious ability to help you change these self-sabotaging behaviors and see life in a new way, as the Soul views life through the eyes of Unconditional Love. The Soul is your true identity, your Authentic Self. You do not have

a Soul, rather you are the Soul—a Divine, Loving Spiritual Being connected to the Universe. Mindfulness helps you become more conscious and view life from this compassionate state of being. Your inner critic is your wounded inner child—your subconscious—who may have experienced some kind of trauma in the past, or who gets his or her feelings hurt, or becomes worried, afraid or overwhelmed, resulting in lashing out in a negative way. Criticism can then become a habit. Your role as the Soul is like a loving parent to that child, to guide, nurture, and help him or her heal. When your subconscious begins to criticize itself or others, you need to stop the critique before it gets out of hand. If you had a son or daughter, and he or she started calling someone else names, you would stop them. The same is true with your inner child. Tell yourself to stop, that this is no longer acceptable behavior, and from now on, let’s look at life differently. Remember, criticism is simply a habit that can be changed by starting a more positive behavior. Focus on the good things you’ve already brought into your life, your blessings, your accomplishments, your talents and strengths, and that becomes your new habit. HOW TO ADAPT TO CHANGE by Ania Haas

Change is inevitable. Sometimes, it comes from unexpected sources and pushes you to face unwanted consequences. Unexpected changes could be, for example, a divorce, the death of someone you love, or an illness. Even positive changes, such as getting a new job, bringing a child into your family, or moving to a new place, may bring stress and worry. Depending on the significance of the change, it may trigger feelings of insecurity and fear, as well as other feelings— including shame, guilt, anger, or frustration. So what should you do when you are facing a change? To help you, I will use the image of the wheel of life, a beautiful symbol that represents the stages and process of adaptation to the change. This wheel of life has four positions: happiness, loss, suffering, and hope. The first position is one you’re familiar with: happiness. It’s the “going well” stage. The second stage: loss, is when you stop being comfortable. It’s the moment when you are forced to face the change. It’s when the information comes, and you feel paralyzed. Your world shakes and feels as if it’s breaking into millions of pieces. The only thing you want to do is to go back to when you felt comfortable, back to your routine, to the previous stage of happiness. In this second stage, you may naturally want to look away and pretend nothing has happened. You are in disbelief; life might feel like a dream. The reality is, you can’t go back because the wheel keeps going in a clockwise direction. No matter how hard it feels to face your loss, you absolutely can’t turn the clock back; you must move forward. You can stay in this stage as long as you need; many people are stuck here, unable to face the problem. So, they pretend the change didn’t happen and avoid it. The next stage is connected to suffering. It’s when you face the issue, look it in the eye, recognize it, and allow yourself to be hurt. It’s in this state where you can expect guilt, sadness, frustration, inner conflict, anger, and pain to come. You might feel stripped naked and beat up in this process. You might want to scream and ask, “Why me?” You question over and over, reliving the past events and bringing up painful memories. You suffer and grieve, and it’s sad. You burn all of the pain in that process. 16

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

The final stage of transformation comes when hope starts to awaken. It happens when you begin to feel touched by beauty again. When you wake up in the morning and see the sun shining through the window, and you experience the sense of aliveness within. This stage brings acceptance, renewal, and positive energy…and it opens you. Eventually, you start seeing the beauty of life, you feel satisfied again. From that stage, you return to the stage of happiness. Your renewed routine emerges, you feel content and joyful. Life is good. Although you can’t choose to participate—or not to participate—in the wheel of life, you can consciously decide to be an active player who’s turning that wheel. You can recognize which stage you are in and allow yourself to go through the process. Know that each change brings transformation— an opportunity to look within, grasp, evaluate, and improve. When you look retrospectively at your life, you will admit that the biggest changes and painful experiences were pivot points—and through them, you became stronger and were given opportunities to grow. The same wheel of change may be applied to your life in a range of areas, including finances, family, friends, health, etc. We will discuss this next month. 5 TIPS FOR A

HEALTHY HEART FOR WOMEN by Dr. Jennifer Mieres and Dr. Stacey Rosen One in three women will die from cardiovascular disease this year. For men, the American Heart Association says it’s one in four. That’s higher than all types of cancer fatalities combined. Of course, there are risk factors that can increase a woman’s chance of getting the disease. Some of those include: bone health, menopause, and complications during pregnancy. A common risk factor that can occur more in African-American, Hispanic, or South Asian women is high blood pressure, which can put women at a greater risk. However, it’s not all bad news. Research also shows that 80 percent of heart disease is actually preventable. There are simple lifestyle changes you can start now to live a more hearthealthy lifestyle. Work with your doctor to assess risk factors you may have, form a plan to live healthier, and stick to it.

a few times a week. When you move, not only does your heart beat faster, but the blood also pumps through your body faster. Even better, you feel more energized throughout the day. It also helps to incorporate strength and resistance training to prevent muscle loss; and stretch to stay flexible. 3. Eat a healthy diet at home and when dining out. Stick to whole foods, home cooked meals, and ditch the take-out. Create a plan, stick to your original portions, and don’t overeat. Try not to eat foods that have refined sugars, saturated fats, and/or sodium. When you do dine out, order vegetables, fruits, legumes, rice, or starchy vegetables like potatoes. 4. Partner with your doctor. You should not only seek help when you feel sick. Make sure you plan with a doctor with whom you feel comfortable and can help shepherd you to good health.

Like many other women, you may be wondering where to start. We created a simple guide in our book, Heart Smart for Women, Six S.T.E.P.S. in Six Weeks to Heart-Healthy Living. By following these six steps, women can significantly decrease their risk of h eart disease: 1. Stock your pantry with healthy foods. It all starts with what you’re eating— including meals and snacks throughout the day. As women get older, our metabolism slows down. We need to refuel with nutrient-dense foods and stay away from processed options. Always look at the labels of what you’re buying, make a focused list, and eat before you shop. We all know that feeling of wanting to buy the whole supermarket if we shop hungry. 2. Take control of your activity level and choose to move every day. You do not have to be a worldclass athlete or bodybuilder to get in a good workout. It can even be walking around your neighborhood

5. Sleep more. Stress less. Savor life. It’s no surprise many of us are constantly busy. Some nights it seems like we don’t even get close to the eight hours of recommended sleep. Rest revives the body. If you do not get enough sleep over a period of time, you can be more prone to diseases like diabetes, which lead to heart disease. What’s step six? Put all of the steps together into one plan. Exercising alone will decrease your risk of heart disease. Replacing a few snacks with healthier options will too. But heart-healthy living is a lifestyle change that takes commitment and time, and if you stick to your plan for six weeks and beyond, your heart will thank you. Drs. Jennifer Mieres and Dr. Stacey Rosen are cardiologists at Northwell Health. They are the authors of Heart Smart for Women. To learn more about their plan, visit www.HeartSmartMovement.com. THE NEW FULL MOON for May 2021

by Donna Stellhorn Hello everyone, I hope you’re safe and well. On May 26, there is the Full Moon in Scorpio. For the next two weeks after that, your focus is on power and your ability to let go of what no longer serves you. You could experience very strong emotions. At times, you may feel like your back is against the wall, and you’re ready to come out swinging. This is especially true in financial matters when money is owed to you or merchandise has not been delivered. There’s also an investigative quality about this full moon. You are willing to dig to find the truth. Additionally, the sign of Scorpio rules taxes, and tax deadlines fall during these two weeks. The New Moon in Taurus is on May 11. For the next two weeks after that, the focus will be on finances and possessions. You may experience a real appreciation for what you own or have a desire to get rid of boxes and boxes of 18

stuff. You could be looking to sell things you don’t need and acquiring things you covet. There’s a desire to have time off to sit in the sunshine and be with friends. Saturn goes retrograde on May 23 at 13 degrees of Aquarius, and it will remain retrograde until Oct. 10. During this period, it’s good to build skills. These could be skills directly needed for your career or related to a hobby you want to turn into a business. Saturn is in Aquarius, so technical skills should be at the top of your list. The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius is on May 26. The full moon energy lasts around two weeks, but eclipse energy can last for months. Eclipses bring changes. This particular eclipse focuses on how attitudes and societal rules are changing. There’s an awareness of spirituality and a desire to incorporate spiritual practices into daily

life. There will be lots of talk about how prejudice and preconceived notions block spiritual and societal growth. Finally, Mercury goes retrograde on May 29 and will remain in retrograde until June 22. Mercury retrograde can cause difficulties with computers, phones, or other devices. Mercury retrograde can also bring challenges with contracts and paperwork. Consider getting your new phone, visiting the DMV, or signing a purchase agreement for a house after the retrograde period.

Aries There’s a great deal of focus on finances and revenue streams this month. A windfall is quite possible. There’s a lot of activity at home with cooking or barbecuing. You could be renovating the kitchen. In relationships, your focus is on the practical. There’s less romance and more doing laundry or working on

a business together. Some recognition in your career is possible, though it may lead to more responsibilities. You might be decluttering or having your kids clean up their rooms.

a routine to wind down in the evening. Some repairs are needed at home that could end up costing some money. A close friend or relative announces an engagement or pregnancy.

supervisor or a nice review from a client. There’s a lot of energy around children and pets. You may be getting a cat or dog for the kids. Intimate relationships are going well.

Taurus

Virgo

The new moon on May 11 begins your new lunar year. This is a good time to plant seeds for the goals you want to achieve. You could make connections with mentors and influential people. Relationship energy is active, and if you’re looking for love, you could fall head over heels with an attractive individual. You could gain some profits from investments, especially connected to company stock. You may be getting ready to spend even more time with your kids as school comes to an end.

May’s focus for Virgo natives is on education. You might be completing a semester or guiding children through the last weeks of school. Work is also quite busy. Some Virgo natives will be starting a new job or training a new coworker. You have good financial instincts now, and you may be completing the paperwork for a business idea, patent, or trademark. Life at home is comfortable, as you change some routines, delegate tasks, or acquire an appliance to make housework easier.

Capricorn

Gemini

Libra

Gemini native, you could use some downtime to get extra sleep. You’ve been expending a lot of effort behind the scenes for a work project. Some travel plans may be put on hold temporarily. This might be okay, as you could be quite a homebody now. Financially, profits are possible with an investment or unique business opportunity. You may be spending time with animals, including horses. A career opportunity is close to opening up, but it can’t be pushed. You’ll have to be patient this month.

Financial opportunities are available for Libra natives this month. You might be gaining lower interest rates on debts, expanding credit opportunities or a financial windfall from an investment. You’re quite busy in your career, and a job opportunity may open as well. You could be impatient at home as it’s hard to keep things tidy or the pantry filled being pulled in many directions. There are more activities with kids, which could include more time in the car. Romantic prospects are very good.

Cancer

Scorpio

Friendships and relationships are highlighted for Cancer natives in May. You could be expanding your circle of friends or meeting people you haven’t seen in a long time. You have a lot more energy this month for all kinds of activities. Income from career shows an increase. You might be getting a raise, a bonus, or working more hours. At home, you’re likely spending more time in the yard or around the neighborhood. There could be a big announcement that adds to the family this month.

This is a very strong relationship month for Scorpio natives. If you’re looking for love, you have the opportunity to meet someone who is a soul connection. If you’re already in a love relationship, you have happy times ahead. There are some challenges around signing a contract or negotiating an agreement. Kids are keeping themselves busy and are more helpful than usual. Finances are improved, but you may be purchasing something for the home that puts a big dent in your budget.

Leo

Sagittarius

Your guardian angel is quite active this month, and you may feel their guiding hand. You might be looking for a new vehicle to purchase or getting yourself a bike. For Leo natives, the month of May brings recognition and appreciation for the hard work you’ve been doing. You may get applause. Career energy is very strong. You could receive a raise or promotion, or you may get a new position. This is a high-energy month, and you may have some difficulty sleeping. It’s good to find

A financial boost is possibly connected to a small business or a change at work. Additionally, you could achieve an investment goal or business milestone this month.

Aquarius May’s focus is on home and family. You could be getting together with relatives you haven’t seen in some time. Someone may be moving in or moving out. You could be gaining a large project at work, which will require working behind the scenes. More money seems to be going out, possibly for future education or connected to technology. Overall, financial prospects are strong, and you could find a new revenue source. You may start a new exercise with flowing movements.

COMFORTING MOM with Good Food

by Betsy Bruns On our last Mother’s Day together, I brought Bunny (my mom) her favorite treats to eat. Bunny’s health had been on the decline for quite a while, but I felt assured things were stable. We had been to the doctor a couple of weeks prior to my visit, and no alarm bells were rung. Little did I know that days later she would be taken from her home by ambulance, never to return.

pizza, and ice cream, followed by sublingual chasers of morphine, methadone, and hydromorphone all to “keep the comfort.” She would always exclaim, “Oh….to die for!” when eating her favorite treats. Those unhealthy foods (thanks to her doctor) were swiftly removed from her system before digestion via a feeding tube, which had been converted to a stomach pump.

After several months of inpatient treatment and rehab, my mom became terminal and was released into my care to live out her days. There was great irony in our hospice journey together. Colon cancer and chemotherapy had rendered her with a complete colon blockage. Even though she no longer received nutrition from eating, her oncologist arranged for her to be able to eat for comfort, or as he called it, “pleasure feeding.” This gave me great relief as I knew how much she looked forward to her favorite foods. Denying her a pleasure that soothed her would have made a painful time more difficult for both of us.

Even though these toxic foods contributed to her many health problems throughout her life and led to a difficult death, I gladly gave them to her because they gave her comfort. And, truly, because I felt that she was at the point of no return.

So here I am, a certified holistic health coach and plant-based diet activist, feeding my mom a steady stream of hamburgers, 20

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MAY 2021

While this may sound like a somber message, my intention is to inspire more of us to wake up to the awareness that our most comforting foods may play huge roles in our most overwhelming discomforts. That the soda we sip, the chips we dip, and the foods we fry could be “to die for” in more ways than one. They bring us pleasure short-term, but can also bring us pain in the form of anxiety, obesity, achy joints, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. They can also incapacitate our God-given immune system.

With the awareness that greater health, energy, and peace can be birthed from leaning into fresh ways of preparing old favorites, an elevated level of comfort can be born. Back in the day, I shared many burgers and shakes with my mom. Listed below, these healthier-for-you “veganized” recipes are in honor of my mom and inspired by memories of comfort foods from days gone by.

VEGAN CHEESEBURGER PIE* 1 store-bought pie dough or pizza dough (I use Trader Joe’s Garlic and Herb Pizza Dough.) 12 ounces of plant-based meatless crumbles (I use Lightlife Smart Ground Meatless Original Crumbles.) 1 cup of plant-based shredded cheddar cheese (I used Daiya.) 1 to 2 tomatoes 2/3 cup of shredded iceberg lettuce 3 tablespoons of diced dill pickles “Special Sauce” (3 tablespoons of vegan mayonnaise mixed with 3 tablespoons of ketchup.) In a skillet, brown the plant crumbles. Season with salt and pepper, if needed. Let cool. While it’s cooling, slice the tomatoes into quarter-inch slices. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 14-inch diameter circle and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Next, scoop the plant “meat” into the middle of the crust leaving a two-inch border. Sprinkle the vegan cheese over the plant crumbles, and then layer the sliced tomatoes over the cheese having them overlap. Finally, fold the two-inch border over the filling, leaving some of the filling exposed. Bake in a 450°F oven for 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350°F and bake for 10 more minutes or until golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before topping with shredded lettuce, diced pickles, and drizzle with the special sauce.

VEGAN CHOCOLATE SHAKE* Makes 2 servings 3 frozen, sliced bananas 1 cup unsweetened plant-based “milk” of choice 2 tablespoons cacao or cocoa powder 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or one soft Medjool date, pitted Top with cacao nibs (optional) Add all ingredients, except the cacao nibs, to blender and blend. Top with nibs, if using. Betsy Bruns is a plant-based health coach and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER May 2021 by Bernadette Evans

Overview

May is jam-packed…so let’s get going! The month starts with a lot of slow-moving, earth energy. It could be about making plans but not putting those plans into motion yet. Mercury will station retrograde in Gemini on May 29. He’ll be retrograde until June 22. All of this direct and retrograde motion means Mercury will get comfy in this sign for approximately nine weeks. While Mercury is retrograde, it gives you time to re-evaluate, reflect, and revise any of your plans. Spend some time reflecting on how you want your life to look. Jupiter will dip its toes into the sign of Pisces on May 13. He will be here until July 28. This will give you a sneak peek of what 2022 will have in store for you when Jupiter revisits Pisces next year. We have the first of two eclipses on May 26 when there is a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius. The second eclipse is a New Moon Solar Eclipse on June 10. The lunar eclipse on May 26 emphasizes letting go of something. It could be a belief that no longer fits your life. It’s about dismantling an old vision, so you may expand your view of the world—your awareness/ consciousness. It’s about speaking your truth. Something may be coming to a head and that means there could be endings. Don’t despair. As hard as it can be when something comes to an end, the Universe has something else in store for you. The Moon takes about 28 days to complete its orbit through the twelve signs, staying approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void of Course (VoC), it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets before it leaves the sign it’s in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish a task. You may want to relax, meditate or do something where your focus is turned inward. Don’t try and get a new project off the ground when the Moon is void. If you want to find out more about the Void of Course Moon, check out moontracks.com. The times below are listed in Central Daylight Time. (CDT)

Saturday, May 1 There’s a lot of energy in the earth element right now, specifically the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Capricorn. When the two luminaries are in the earth element, you could be pausing to take a breath before you decide to make a move. You want to create something tangible that you can enjoy, touch, taste, see, smell. It’s about being grounded and present. When Mercury trines Pluto, your intuition is sharp and you want to have meaningful discussions. You’re interested in seeing what’s behind the curtain and what might not be visible to everyone else. There’s a desire to know more about how others think and communicate. Delving into a subject with a psychological bent may be of interest, as well as talking to a counselor or a trusted friend. Moon in Capricorn.

Sunday, May 2 Beauty and imagination swim together when Venus sextiles Neptune. You want to surround yourself with beautiful objects today. Go to an art gallery, listen to music, do some redecorating at home! If you have a creative idea, grab onto the inspiration before it floats out of your consciousness. It’s also possible that the veil is dissolving, and you see a relationship with more clarity. You could want to lavish your loved ones with gifts. A financial opportunity may present itself to you. Do some investigating…you never know what could happen. Put yourself out there…it’s time for your light to shine. Moon VoC at 9:38 a.m. until 2:31 p.m. when it enters the sign of Aquarius.

Monday, May 3

The Sun-Saturn square emphasizes duty and responsibility over what you want to do. You realize hard work will take you to your destination, but you may be exhausted. You could feel physically tired; make sure you look after yourself and get enough sleep. Finding time to look after the physical and emotional needs of others—as well as your own—can be tiring. Remember to put on your oxygen mask first or you won’t be able to help anyone else. A parent or a boss may be putting pressure on you to finish a task. The only way to get this monkey off your back is to just do it. You’ll feel a weight lifted from you when you do. Mercury enters the sign of Gemini at 9:49 p.m.

Tuesday, May 4

Are you feeling moody? You may feel stuck in your relationships when the Moon squares Venus. Challenges come up when you or someone else is not able to see past their perspective. What can you do to smooth over difficulties? Remember what seems like a big obstacle today may have you wondering what the fuss was about tomorrow. Moon VoC at 7:05 p.m. until 9:09 p.m. when it enters the sign of Pisces.

Wednesday, May 5

Happy Cinco de Mayo! You could be leading with your emotions when the Moon trines Mars. With both these planets in water signs, feelings are magnified. You feel passionately and deeply and could experience a flood of emotions. Pay attention to where you’re feeling them in your body and then release them. You can create magic when you trust your instincts and let them guide you.

Thursday, May 6

Your love for another is felt deeply and passionately when Venus trines Pluto. You may be trying to think of ways to let that special someone know how you feel. Feeling buoyed by the energy of Venus and Pluto, you may want to gather your friends near to celebrate life! There’s a deep need for connection. If you’re creating art, your art could mirror your intensity and depth.

Friday, May 7

Expressing yourself and getting your message to others is easier when the Moon sextiles Mercury. Your enthusiasm for your beliefs shines through you and speaks volumes. You have the stage and their attention…take advantage of it! Moon VoC at 2:36 a.m. until 6:52 a.m. when it enters the sign of Aries.

Saturday, May 8

When Venus is in the last degrees of Taurus, she squares Jupiter. You may feel extremely romantic. Maybe you’re trying to hold onto someone or something that you love and brings you joy. Loosen your grip and let everything and everyone flow the way the Universe intends. When Venus squares Jupiter, one thing to watch for is overdoing it. There’s the potential of spending too much, eating too much, drinking too much; remember to enjoy yourself, but in moderation. Venus enters the sign of Gemini at 9:01 p.m.

Sunday, May 9

Happy Mother’s Day! Today’s Moon-Pluto square could bring up feelings of insecurity. You may feel you’re not doing a good job or that someone is saying something about you. Find out more information before you jump to any conclusions. You may feel like someone is being controlling or manipulative. Pay attention, trust and follow your inner compass as to what you should do about it. Moon VoC at 5:50 p.m. until 6:46 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus.

Monday, May 10

When the Moon sextiles Mars, you’re being called to follow your dream. Now is not the time to play it small. Let others see you, your passion, and drive! When working independently, you get noticed for doing a good job. In a group setting, you get attention for being a team player. Speaking of passion, this energy highlights sensuality and fun. Give your partner a massage or a foot rub, it could lead to other things. If you’re single, do something sensual and nurturing for yourself like candles and a nice dinner. The possibilities are endless.

Tuesday, May 11

The New Moon in Taurus is at 21 degrees at 2 p.m. New moons are always about new beginnings. Where in your life do you want to plant seeds? Taurus is an earth sign; imagine playing in the dirt and preparing the soil for the seeds you plant to take root and sprout! Neptune gets in on the action as it forms a sextile with the Sun and Moon. So, imagination, as well as physically doing a task, could produce a tangible outcome. The Taurus New Moon wants to be able to have something solid that can be touched. If you build a strong foundation from the ground up, then you can grow and expand upwards without fear of the structure collapsing. Speaking of building a strong foundation, remember to look after your physical body; it also needs tending.

Wednesday, May 12

When Mercury trines Saturn, this is where communication and know-how meet hard work. There’s a more serious tone to the day as the focus is on work. You’ve got your head down and mean business. You know how to put all the information you’ve soaked up to good use. Make sure you finish up one task before you move onto the next item on your to-do list. Moon VoC at 7:23 a.m. until 7:43 a.m. when it enters the sign of Gemini.

Thursday, May 13

There’s a dreaminess to the day when the Sun sextiles Neptune. Take some time to meditate or connect with a higher source. Some downtime wouldn’t hurt either. With the Sun in Taurus, if you can get outside and enjoy Mother Nature, all the better. Feeling idealistic and altruistic, you might be called on to lend a helping hand. You never know what and when inspiration will strike when the Moon and Mercury conjoin. Jupiter enters the sign of Pisces at 5:36 p.m.

Friday, May 14

The Moon is void in Gemini most of the day. Pay attention during any conversations and listen to what the other person has to say. Watch your

words, be careful of saying something you’ll regret later. Once it’s out there, you can’t take it back! The Moon is quincunx Pluto, so there is the potential that you or someone else may try to control a situation or be manipulative. Trust yourself to know how to handle anything that comes your way. Listen to that “little voice”—it will know what to do. Moon VoC at 5:51 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.

Saturday, May 15 Mars and Saturn form a quincunx. The planet of action, Mars, is not quite seeing the whole picture with the planet of work, Saturn. The pieces aren’t fitting together the way you’d like, which can feel frustrating. You’re trying to accomplish a goal or act while having to go around roadblocks or triple-check everything. Breathe…things will sort themselves out…eventually.

Sunday, May 16 The Moon in Cancer makes a trine with Neptune in Pisces. This flowing, water-like energy emphasizes sensitivity, emotions, and receptivity to the energy around you. There are so many ways to play with today’s energy. Tune into your body/mind/spirit when meditating. Be creative, play with tarot cards, color, bake…the list goes on and on! There are many ways to engage with it. Have fun picking just one!

Monday, May 17 When the Sun trines Pluto, you may feel like you’re the authority in your life…and you are! You feel powerful and may want to express your opinions. Great. People are listening to what you have to say. Do some investigating to figure out which direction you want to take, but be ready to do the work. Be informed, but pay attention to what you want to do. Possibly, someone else thinks they know what’s best for you and is trying to steer you in a certain direction. There may be some challenges, but that’s how you learn, grow, and transform yourself. Moon VoC at 1:23 a.m. until 7:44 a.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Tuesday, May 18 When the Moon opposes Saturn, you may feel you’re not getting everything you need from your relationships. It might be time to re-evaluate how they are going and what part you play in them, as well as what your partner brings to the table. Trust yourself and the information you perceive. Only you can decide if it’s worth working on or if it’s time to move on. The Moon-Mercury sextile brings the opportunity for discussion. Start a dialogue about what you both want in this partnership.

Wednesday, May 19 Your hard work has paid off! You could be noticed for your diligence and accomplishments in your field. The Venus trine Saturn may herald a pay raise or a promotion. You’re doing what you love and getting paid for it! It doesn’t get better than that. Loyalty, being reliable and responsible may not seem glamorous, but these are admirable qualities. This is what you’re looking for in your relationships; someone who shows up, and it feels pretty good. Moon VoC at 2:13 p.m. until 3:59 p.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo. Thursday, May 20 Happy Birthday to all the Geminis! Sun enters the sign of Gemini at 2:37 p.m. The Moon-Venus square usually emphasizes wanting to be with friends and loved ones. Everything could be fine, as long as you don’t try to control those you love— think Stephen King’s character, Annie, in the movie, Misery. You may have some work to do when it comes to improving your relationships. A little bit of thoughtfulness and going the extra mile for someone you love goes a long way. If things aren’t so rosy right now, you might feel like everything and everyone is out to get you and could fall into despair. Don’t! This too shall pass. And, when you’re on the other side of it, you’ll feel a lot better.

Friday, May 21

When the Sun squares Jupiter, you may be searching for some answers. You could be trying to figure out in which direction you need to move to expand your awareness. Studying something in that area could propel you down a whole new path. You could feel energetic, optimistic, and generous. If you put your focus on one avenue, you should have success; however, make sure not to take on too many projects. You don’t want to scatter your energy and exhaust yourself. Moon VoC at 2:56 p.m. until 8:35 p.m. when it enters the sign of Libra.

Saturday, May 22

“Don’t dream it/Be it” a line from “Rocky Horror Picture Show”—this is the energy of the Mercury square Neptune. Illusion meets up with creation. What do you want to create? There is a whole field of consciousness/awareness available for you to explore and learn from. Get your feet wet…the water’s fine. The other side of the Mercury-Neptune square is deception—not everything is as it seems. So, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is fitting. People deceive others, they are spaced out on who knows what, there’s a dark side, etc. Not everything is as pretty as it appears, so keep your eyes open. You could just stay in and create something or watch movies. Today, there’s the potential of misunderstandings or confusion. It’s also possible someone is being evasive

and not telling you everything. It may be because they don’t want to hurt your feelings or because they’re trying to pull a fast one. So keep your eyes open and your feet on the ground.

Sunday, May 23 In the morning, the Moon trines Mercury. You may feel like connecting with others—sharing ideas— while supporting and encouraging each other. It could be the start of a partnership. You’re tappedin, tuned-in to your intuition and easily expressing yourself. By late afternoon, the Moon squares Pluto. Hidden feelings may be exposed or rise to the surface. Acknowledge how you feel and move in a healthier, more positive direction. Find balance in your partnerships and your relationships. Saturn stations retrograde at 4:21 a.m. Moon VoC at 4:36 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. when it enters the sign of Scorpio.

Monday, May 24 Happy Victoria Day to my Canadian friends! With the Moon-Uranus opposition and the Moon-Saturn square, emotions and moodiness may be off the charts. You could feel restless and on edge. Also, you may think or feel like you’re all alone and no one loves you. Tune into your heart/body/spirit and ask it what it really needs. Be present for yourself. Healing comes when you pay attention to your needs. When you’re ready, call up a friend to talk. With these two aspects, it’s also possible that someone may suddenly appear in your life. It could be an older person who ends up being a mentor.

Tuesday, May 25 When the Moon’s in Scorpio and the Sun’s in Gemini, you could feel emotional and are trying to figure out how to express yourself. By surrendering, acknowledging, and accepting your emotions, you can move through them. It may require thinking outside of the box. Try a body/mind technique, such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) to help you process your emotions. Moon VoC at 4:20 p.m. until 9:39 p.m. when it enters the sign of Sagittarius.

Wednesday, May 26 We have a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at five degrees of Sagittarius at 6:14 a.m. Full moons are about releasing, and this eclipse cranks up the moon’s volume! In Sagittarius, it could be a release around beliefs, spirituality or travel. During this Full Moon in Sagittarius, the Sun is in Gemini. The Gemini Sun highlights education, communication, and siblings. You could be feeling a deep rumbling—an internal shake-up. Don’t panic. What have you learned? How do you want to express it? Is there something you’re passionate about that you want to share with others? What did you start during the New Moon in Taurus? What needs to be expressed and released? Where do you want to grow and expand? Awareness of your subconscious is key. Fly above and observe yourself. You’ll gain a new perspective from a different vantage point and see things in a different light.

Thursday, May 27 You could experience some challenges in your relationships and finances when Venus squares Neptune. You may feel vulnerable and down, thinking you’re not good enough. Spend some

time contemplating what you think and see…a lot of it is untrue or a distortion. Commune with your soul to see all the beauty that is you. When you’re feeling low, be careful of others who could take advantage of you. Spend time with the people who love and appreciate you. They see all your great qualities. There may be some confusion and misunderstandings in your partnerships. It’s possible someone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. You may also be seeing a partner through rose-colored glasses. Take the glasses off and see what’s in front of you. When it comes to money issues, make sure you do your homework before investing in a new venture. You know what they say if something seems too good to be true… Moon VoC at 12:35 p.m. until 9:23 p.m. when it enters the sign of Capricorn.

Friday, May 28

When the Moon trines Uranus, you’re on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. Be open to receiving inspiration from the Universe. Pay attention to any insights you receive with regard to unusual opportunities. It may be a new money-making venture. From the outside, it may feel bizarre or out of your comfort zone, but you never know where it will lead and what doors it could open.

Saturday, May 29

Feelings are magnified when the Moon conjoins Pluto and they oppose Mars. It’s easy to get pulled into some deep waters. When Venus conjoins Mercury, expressing how you feel about someone becomes easier. You tap into all these juicy places and express your heartfelt emotions to tell them what they mean to you. Mercury stations retrograde at 5:34 p.m. Moon VoC at 5:15 p.m. until 11:04 p.m. when it enters the sign of Aquarius.

Sunday, May 30

You feel calm and at ease when the Moon trines the Sun. Feeling confident and sure of yourself and your abilities, you can easily join in at work or in your social life. Yet, just as comfortably, you can do your own thing. You exude quiet strength and leadership qualities that draw people to you. Getting together with others could be fun. Inner harmony is reflected in the world around you.

Monday, May 31

Happy Memorial Day to my friends in the United States! Sensitivity and intuition are heightened when Mars trines Neptune. You may feel like everything is colored with a rosy glow, seeing others or that special person in a shining light. The perfume of romance tinges the air. If you like to create, today would be the day to call on your muse and have fun playing with some paints, clay, your guitar, or another medium. There’s also the potential to want to serve others or gather with like-minded people who are drawn to spiritual pursuits. Take your pick…the world is your oyster!
