[COMMUNITY Q&A]

that society expects us to. This is especially true with mother and child.

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q: I was raised a Christian. I definitely

don’t believe that way anymore but fear completely letting go. How do I move forward? —Un-Christian A: Dear Un-Christian,

So many people have been in the same place. I know I have. It can take a while to unravel oneself from long-held beliefs. The longer we’ve had them, potentially, the longer it takes to release them. In my personal experience, it’s a process. Let me start by saying that I have great respect for Christianity. I also believe that everyone is entitled to believe what they believe. I’ve learned so many other things outside that; I believe things outside the realm of what most would call “Christian.” So, I dropped the label. If raised on the more conservative side of the faith, it may take a while to come to grips with the conscious realization that it doesn’t fit anymore—especially with hell and all. The fear of going to hell or losing a social network often causes many to stay in the religion or take a lot longer to admit to themselves that they don’t believe anymore. Sometimes, the process takes many years...or even longer. Be gentle with yourself during the unraveling of your beliefs. Many finer roots of a long-held belief system may take a while to release and heal. Pay

more attention to what you’re consciously feeling inside for progress than you do to the fear of what others might think. Often, the most difficult of all is admitting out loud to someone else for the first time that you’re not a Christian—especially if they are Christian. I recommend finding a safe place to practice first. You can also practice a canned response should you be in receipt of a general rebuttal, (which often is wrapped in others’ fears). If you haven’t gone to atheism, keep studying areas of faith that are interesting to you. You can edify yourself, learn more about what you now believe, (and what you don’t), and come to even more clarity on your journey. We get to make our own choices as adults. We’re sovereign in our beliefs, which are ours alone. It’s not for anyone else to tell us what we should or shouldn’t believe. Q: My estranged mother passed

recently. I barely had a relationship with her, and when I did, she consistently took advantage, undermined me and verbally abused me. People keep telling me that I should be sad— when I’m not—and seem to be judging me for lack of emotion. How do I deal with them? —Not Mourning A: Dear Not Mourning,

This comes down to labels and emotions. We’re quite entrenched and comfortable in our labels. It’s difficult for many to process when we don’t respond in the way

In relationships—no matter the label—if one of the parties abuses, neglects or takes advantage of the other, it undermines the relationship and the emotions that are typically expected. The label doesn’t automatically obligate us to stay in a relationship with toxic people, regardless of the label. Emotions can be tricky. When we’ve had negative experiences with others, of course we’re going to have bad feelings. There’s no judgment on those feelings. They merely are. Our goal should be to try to work our inner world to find ways to heal and untangle the knots that these bad experiences often seed in us. If we don’t, the chaos inside hurts us more than it hurts them, not to mention the stress it puts our bodies through. When someone transitions, who we’re “supposed to” have strong feelings for, and the relationship was never reconciled with good communication, truth, accountability, respect and love, it’s not unexpected that one might feel nothing— especially if the personal work has been done. One might even want to feel something, yet only anger comes. In that case, don’t judge. Merely see that the anger needs to be addressed and keep doing the work until you finally heal. As for others, it’s none of their business what we feel, unless, of course, it’s damaging to ourselves or others. We can feel someone’s heart when they inquire or offer perspective. As suggested in the answer to this month’s first question, if we’re not interested in dealing with their response, it might be prudent to practice a balanced response ahead of time should someone blindside you with their opinion. EXTENDING THE PRESENT MOMENT by Jakeb Brock Within us, both heaven and hell exist as choices. At any given moment, through an act of our consciousness, we can choose our reality. We can also choose whether our brush with heaven will be fleeting and ephemeral, or lasting and eternal. Hell is presented to us in many facets. It comes via the trials and tribulations of earthly existence. The problems of modern human life are real and cannot be denied. Difficulties regularly arise in the arenas of health, home, finances, and relationships, and these can seem overwhelming at times. Expending inordinate amounts of time and energy, we chip away at solving these outward problems, and sometimes, we gain the upper hand. After finally getting our outward circumstances under some semblance of control, we discover that we have another entire world of problems inside of us. This is because until we have done the inner work of making our unconscious thoughts and emotions conscious, we essentially carry the outside world—with its endless parade of problems—inside of us. 8

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

We tend to approach the solving of our external problems by applying external remedies. We use our minds and bodies and depend upon such human attributes as strength, persistence, and cleverness. But our inward problems are different. They do not respond to human muscling but require a different, more spiritual approach. They respond to the light of conscious awareness. This awareness draws them out of the shadows of our psyche, where they have been hiding and exposes them. Then this same powerful inward dynamic goes on to de-fang and banish them. That is why meditation or mindfulness is such an important practice for our times. Never has human conditioning been as extensive and debilitating as it is now. Therefore, never has the need to counter this brand of inertia been more pressing. It is no coincidence that the more dedicated we become to the practice of mindfulness, the freer we feel. Through this practice we not only deal effectively with the problems caused by our

conditioned mind and bring that mind into greater submission; we also begin to tap into the heavenly state of consciousness, wherein all conditioned reflexes cease and we are reintegrated and made whole as a result. That is why it can be compared to heaven. It is a state of consciousness, in which fear, anxiety, dread, and insecurity can’t touch us. All of us that have been seriously practicing mindfulness for a while can testify to the existence of this benign transcendent state of consciousness. We have encountered it, touched it, and felt the wondrous peace and sense of healing it brings. But for many of us, this tends to be a short-lived, haphazard experience—one that we are at a loss to recreate at will. It is like a blissful interlude that breaks in upon our mundane consciousness for a brief moment and then evaporates. Despite their fleeting ephemeral quality, however, these encounters are valuable and important. This is because when we touch that heavenly chord within us, we feel changed and renewed. There seems to be a mysterious disproportionate power emanating from this source. As we realize this, our task then becomes two-fold. First, we must learn how to enter this state at will, and second, we must gain the mastery that will enable us to extend this blissful interlude outward into time and space. Neither of these tasks is as difficult as we tend to believe. All that we need to do to enter this state at will is to pay better attention the next time it presents itself to us. Then based on these perceptions, we simply try to recreate the conditions surrounding its manifestation. The principle behind this approach is that the blissful interlude is not a haphazard event but rather is scientifically activated and predictable. All we need to do is to create the right conditions in our psyche and be patient. It is the same principle referred to in the baseball movie, Field of Dreams: “If you build it, they will come.” If we build the right conditions, the heavenly state will surely descend upon us. This is a wonderful discovery to be sure, but it is even more exalting to discover that not only can we recreate this blissful interlude at will; we can extend it. We can cause its ripple effects to flow out over the waters of our psyche until they reach the furthest shore. The key to accomplishing this task of extension is to gain a full understanding of the nature of the heavenly encounter. We know that it feels good. We can readily acknowledge the sense of peace and relaxation it brings. We can watch as our problems take a backseat and feel the relief that comes with this. What else? We can sense its timeless quality. True, we enter that state through or in time, but the actual quality of our encounter is timeless. It is otherworldly or eternal. We say that time has three tenses: the present, past, and future. But, we find that the present moment is different. Time only exists as a past or future phenomenon. In those tenses, time is synonymous with movement. It has a beginning and an end. But in the present moment, all movement is suspended. There is no beginning and no end. There is only being.

It is important to realize this because it is when we begin to view our heavenly interlude as eternal and outside of time that magical things start to happen for us. We discover a powerful tool for dealing authoritatively with just about every undesirable aspect of our human experience. This tool is a familiar one. It is the tool of mental reasoning or logic. What makes this usage of our minds uniquely powerful is the combination of rational thought and the spiritual revelation of the timeless quality of the present moment. This is because the present moment has its basis of truth. In other words, there are things about the present moment that are uniquely true. This gives our reasoning processes a greater authority when dealing with unwanted conditioned thoughts and emotions. For example, let us suppose we are being assailed by financial problems, which in turn, is causing our conditioned mind to run wild, replete with highly toxic thoughts and emotions, such as worry, fear, and foreboding. What is the solution? First, we go into meditation. Then we activate our heavenly state of consciousness and focus on the timeless aspect of our heavenly interlude. Lastly, we deliver the knockout punch by consciously rehearsing a potent truth about the present moment, as it pertains to finances—a uniquely irrefutable truth. We might say, “In this present moment, I have no financial problems”—this is not just a robotic affirmation or wishful thinking; it is true. What are we doing in the timeless present moment? We are sitting in meditation. Where are our financial worries? They are in time—in the past or the future, even if that past or future timeframe was only two minutes ago or will be only two minutes hence. The fact is that the present moment is unaffected. The present moment is clean, pure, and holy, and nothing can ever change that; it will always be that way. In the present moment, money is inconsequential—it carries no weight and has no value. In the present moment, man does not live on bread alone but rather on every impulse of spiritual life emanating from within. These irrefutable truths about the present moment are authoritative because they speak directly to our conditioned mind. They almost act as commands. “Be still,” they infer. “My financial problems cannot come here.” Thus, we are afforded a break from all such pressing issues. How do we make it more than just a break? We learn to extend the present moment indefinitely. We learn to abide full-time in the present moment, no matter where we are or what we are doing. Little by little, we learn to rest and trust. This completely disarms the conditioned mind because that mind is utterly faithless and insists that any real solutions to our problems must come via our human problem-solving energies. That is why we carry so much worry and fear around with us. The conditioned mind insists that the entire burden of making things right is on our shoulders. As another example, let us say that you are feeling sick, but your actual illness is not your biggest problem. Your biggest problem is the worry and fear generating in your thoughts and 10

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

emotions; your biggest problem is your conditioned mind. The solution to this predicament is the same as we employed when dealing with financial difficulties, but the truth we bring forth will be unique to this circumstance. This time the truth about the present moment pertains directly to our health and body. Our conditioned mind is running wild, telling us we better do something or our situation could worsen. We had better go see a doctor, get some medication, etc. because if our sickness gets worse, we will suffer on its account. “Stop!” we command. “The truth of the present moment is that my body is now in healing mode. It has entered that relaxed state of effortless function ability, according to its created blueprint. Therefore, I am not sick. I am, in fact, perfectly well.” Again, this is not just wishful thinking; it is the truth about the present moment. In that moment of heightened spiritual consciousness, our bodies automatically go into healing mode. If we can stay in that mode long enough by extending the present moment, our symptoms will soon disappear. Some might feel that this challenge of extending the present moment is unrealistic in today’s world. They will cite the fact that they cannot stay in a meditative state all day. They have things to do, errands to run, work, social obligations, etc. Remember that accessing the present moment is primarily a state of consciousness and is not dependent upon sitting in meditation or any other spiritual discipline or practice. True, most of us need the structure of disciplines and practices at this point in our development. This does not hold true of the spiritual masters who have lived among us. Like us, they may have begun with a dependency on practices such as meditation, but eventually they attained the state of consciousness, wherein practices were no longer needed. Spiritual masters learned to extend the mystical present moment endlessly and came to abide in the heavenly interlude. That is how they became masters, and that is why we need them. We need their example to know what is possible for us. We need to always keep our sights on what we are aspiring to. Can we ever come to realize the fullness of spiritual life that the masters have demonstrated? Of course, we can. All we have to do is to stay with it. That was why Jesus told his disciples, “Seek, and you will find.” He did not say, “You need to keep seeking, but I’ll tell you right now, you’re never going to find.” There does come a point of finding in the spiritual life, and that point is scientifically predictable. Therefore, it applies to every one of us. It is the same as when a woman is pregnant and ready to give birth. Scientifically speaking, the point of delivery is a sure thing. Just as nothing can hinder a baby from being born once its time has come, nothing can stop us from laying hold of the fullness of spiritual life once we have grown and developed our spiritual consciousness to the ultimate degree of self-realization. YOU ARE MADE FOR SOMETHING MORE by Kim Chestney

Have you ever noticed the nudge of a still, small voice inside you? It is a voice that whispers only to you and knows you better than you know yourself. It guides you. It protects you. It inspires you. And, it leads you to the open doors that change your life. It says: Trust yourself. It says: Something more awaits. This inner guidance system has been silently running in the background of your life since the day you were born. Every once in a while, it slips into your conscious awareness, reminding you that something bigger is at play in life. These moments of intuitive insight connect you to the larger purpose of your life and the ineffable knowingness that quietly waits behind your thoughts for your attention.

We often live our lives with a sense that we are incomplete. Though we may set this feeling aside or cover it up with activities, ambitions, and worldly pursuits, on a deeper level, we know that we are more powerful—with more potential than we realize. When we turn to intuition, we step into that power and into the potential it holds. We rise above the fear, the disappointment, and the confusion of the human experience.

The gut feelings and the times when you just “know” things, even without having all the facts, are the first calling cards of your intuition. The more you invite your intuition in, and honor it, the more you will witness the subtle nudges of intuition becoming clearer and stronger. What begins with a whisper, ends, after time and practice, with an assured calling to recognize and choose the best in your life.

You are made for a different kind of life. You are made to be complete, joyful, inspired, and fulfilled. You are made to use your extraordinary inner power to create the life of your dreams. This is what your intuition is calling you to do right now.

The existential angst so many of us feel today is due, in part, to our habitual and seemingly inescapable overreliance on our thinking mind. We have so much information to process, so much to figure out. We are bombarded, each day, with an endless stream of input from our electronic devices. The return to intuition is the way out of that din…an inner retreat from the chaos of the world. Intuition calls us away from the frenetic distractions of obsessive thinking and back to the richness of life itself, the vitality of presence in the human experience. We all crave intuition. The stress, the gnawing ache of an empty place inside of us, the feeling that something is wrong, but we don’t know what. These are symptoms of dislocation from our intuitive, inner being. When we learn to recognize and follow our inner guidance, it reconnects us with the fullness of our intended existence. In this way, intuition is not only our line to higher awareness, but the cure for our pains—our imbalanced bodies, worried minds, broken hearts, and defeated spirits.

How will you answer this call? How can you open lines of communication between two very different worlds? How do you touch this ineffable dimension of reality? No teacher, guru, quest, or drug can take you there; you only get there by following your intuition. What is on the other side of that “call” is nothing less than life itself—the Ultimate, the Supreme, the Absolute, the all-knowing, omnipresent Being. We can call it God, Spirit, or our Source. Whatever we name it, we are all part of it. We are intrinsically embedded within it, and it within us— united by intuition. Kim Chestney is the author of Radical Intuition. From Cheesy Relationships

TO A GOURMET BANQUET by Alan Cohen In the early 1900s, a European man named Frederic had a dream to travel to the United States. At that time, air travel had not been developed, so he booked passage on an ocean liner. Such a trip required all of his savings, but it was worth it. Considering that he could not afford the luxury meals the ship offered, Frederic brought with him a supply of cheese and crackers. While the other guests sat in the ornate dining room enjoying lavish multi-course meals, Frederic sat on a bench on the deck, rationing out his simple meals for the duration of the cruise. One day, another passenger passed Frederic eating his Spartan meal. “Why are you sitting out here eaten cheese and crackers?” the fellow asked. “I can’t afford the dining room meals,” Frederic answered. The passenger laughed. “Don’t you know that the meals are included in the price of the voyage?” Frederic, astonished, put aside his cheese and crackers and 12

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

entered the lavish dining room that he deserved all along. The second half of his voyage proved far more enjoyable than the first. Like Frederic, many of us settle for meager rations in life while we are entitled to enjoy a great banquet. One of the areas we tend to starve ourselves in is relationships. Let’s take a look at how we can trade a cheese-and-cracker relationship for a gourmet feast. Most people believe that they are missing something in a relationship. Either they are single and wish they had a partner, or they are with someone and wish their relationship was better. It is a rare person who says, “I am completely satisfied with my relationship status.” There are two ways to improve your relationship status: One is to find a relationship, and the other is to trade your current relationship for a better one. If you are in a toxic, abusive, or dead relationship, there’s no sense trying to fix it. You will do better to quit fighting an uphill battle, and instead let go, take stock of what you have learned, and move on. Many people

stay in unhappy relationships too long and wish they had had the courage to leave years earlier. The other way to get into the gourmet dining room is to do your inner work to upgrade your current relationship. It is tempting to think, “I’ll find someone better.” In some cases, you can, but in most cases, you end up trading one set of problems for another. Your current partner meets seven out of ten of your relationship criteria, and your new partner meets a different seven out of ten. So, you haven’t really upgraded; you’ve just rearranged the furniture. The biggest mistake people in “cheese-and-cracker” relationships make is to think, “If I can just get my partner to change, I will be happy.” Yet, changing another person’s behavior so that you feel better is never a worthy or practical goal. If you’ve tried to change your partner, you know this doesn’t work. You just set yourself up for frustration and the same argument keeps recycling in different forms. If, however, you are willing to do your inner homework and try to change your attitude about your relationship, you can make real progress. There are two elements to this monumental move: First, move from deficit vision to appreciation vision. Quit complaining about what your partner isn’t and start celebrating who they are. When you first met this person, there were lots of things you loved about them. Over time, you have drifted from what’s right to what’s wrong. If you turn your rudder back to what’s right, you can enjoy so much more.

In her new book, 8 Ways to Declutter Your Brain, All About Town author, Theresa Puskar provides

you with 37 assessments and guided meditations

to quiet your mind, transforming stress & fear into compassion, self-love and creativity. To order, go to www.Amazon.com

The second element in the crucial shift is to give more of what you wish to receive. In any situation in which you perceive that something is missing, what is missing is what you are not giving. The illusion is that if your partner would give more, you would be happier. The truth is, if you would give more, you would be happier—more validation, more appreciation, more patience, more kindness, more communication, more support. When you invest those noble qualities in your relationship, you are the immediate recipient of those blessings. They are your fastest ticket to the main dining room. What better time than the present to take stock of where you are settling for “cheese and crackers,” not just in your intimate relationship, but in all of your relationships and all of your life. Jesus said, “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” The purpose of your spiritual journey is to discover that you deserve the great banquet and claim it. No matter how “cheesy” your relationships or life have been, like Frederic, you can make the remainder of your voyage a world-class experience. SPROUTS AND WHEATGRASS The Ultimate Superfoods by Colleen Derrico

The term “superfood” is one that is used quite frequently these days. Healthy eating, plant-based diets, and juicing trends are on the rise, but many people are still surprised when they hear about the amazing nutritional properties found in sprouts and wheatgrass. Not only are sprouts a great addition to any dish, but they also add large amounts of highly concentrated nutrients to your diet. Although sprouts are phenomenal for you, there is still a stigma leftover from a salmonella outbreak that occurred during the 1990s. This outbreak left a 14

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

bad name for the sprouting industry and permanently scared many people away from eating one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Here you’ll find some information about the nutritional benefits found in sprouts and wheatgrass—along with how the sprouting industry is working hard to grow the safest sprouts yet. The most commonly known sprout is alfalfa, but sprouts come in all different shapes, sizes, and flavors. They include the mild and crunchy red clover, spicy radish, flavorful onion,

and the nutrition-packed broccoli. All sprouts are a tremendous source of chlorophyll, which acts as a natural blood cleanser and detoxifier. Sprouts are also a great source of protein and are the perfect addition to the diet of vegetarians and vegans. Although sprouts are tiny, they pack a huge nutritional punch. Two ounces of broccoli sprouts contain as much nutrition as two pounds of actual broccoli. Broccoli sprouts also contain high amounts of sulforaphanes—strong antioxidants which can help kill free radicals and assist with the healing

from cancer, autoimmune diseases, and chronic illness. Microgreens have also recently become popular among chefs and the general public as a colorful garnish and for their nutritional benefits. What many don’t realize is that microgreens are essentially sprouts that are grown in a medium such as soil, whereas sprouts are grown hydroponically (just in water). While sprouts are a living food that is technically still growing after harvest, microgreens are cut from the root before eating, and therefore, do not have the same “live energy” that a sprout has. Wheatgrass is another superfood growing in popularity at local juice bars and can be grown hydroponically or in a medium such as soil. Unlike sprouts, wheatgrass can only be juiced, due to the fact that our bodies cannot digest grass the way a cow does. Wheatgrass is considered a “complete food” and contains everything from vitamins and minerals to protein. It contains so much nutrition that a one ounce shot of wheatgrass has the same amount of nutrition as two pounds of leafy green vegetables! Many health-conscious consumers are aware that even if you eat an allorganic diet, we are still exposed to many toxins and harmful chemicals in our everyday environment that are unfortunately beyond our control. Wheatgrass is a great addition to anyone’s diet for this very reason. Not only does wheatgrass contain such a high concentration of vitamins and minerals, but it also contains a high amount of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll cleanses the blood, removing toxins, heavy metals, and carcinogens from your system. Ann Wigmore, a pioneer in the holistic industry, cured herself of colon cancer using wheatgrass. She also wrote several books and even started her own holistic health clinic based on her research and personal healing journey. In the 1970s, sprouts were a popular health food item often grown at home

(most commonly in a mason jar). An unfortunate salmonella outbreak in the 1990s caused large numbers of people to become extremely ill. This led to quick action by the FDA, and sprouts were moved to the hazardous food item list. It is understandable why sprouts have remained on this list since then. Sprouts are grown in a warm aqueous environment, the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. So what are sprout growers doing to ensure a safe product? The key to any growing operation’s success is high-quality seed. Sprout growers must create guidelines as to how they go about approving seed suppliers and require proof of food safety audits, letters of guarantee, and possible organic certificates from their suppliers. With each batch of seed that is delivered, the seed supplier must provide proof of seed batch testing. This means each batch of seed has been tested for the germination rate, E. coli 0157:h7, and Salmonella. Some seed suppliers even pre-treat the seed with an approved sanitizing treatment before delivery. If the supplier is not the one treating the seed, then it is the responsibility of the grower to do so.

outbreaks, food safety is on the forefront, and it is time for sprout growers to spread this information and educate customers. These latest safety standards, along with the nutritional benefits found in sprouts, should help encourage the public to confidently purchase sprouts for their families. When it comes to superfoods, sprouts and wheatgrass are a simple addition to your diet and can truly make a difference in your health. Colleen Derrico works at Chicago Indoor Garden. Like many farmers, Colleen wears many hats and handles everything from the family business’ social media to food safety and organic certification. Chicago Indoor Garden is a small, family-owned and operated urban farm that is proud to be Certified Organic, food safety audited and is also currently working on their Non-GMO Certification. Approximately 48 hours into the growing process, water samples (referred to as spent irrigation water) are collected for each batch of sprouts being grown. These samples are tested for E. coli 0157:h7 and salmonella. Sprout growers are required to have a hold and release policy to ensure that no sprouts are released for consumption until negative test results have been received. Along with testing of the spent irrigation water, sprout growers are now required to perform regular environmental testing for listeria. This is yet another precaution taken to ensure that the sprouts are grown in a sanitary environment and will not be contaminated by bacteria during the growing process. For several years, sprout growers have been working hard in conjunction with the FDA to create a safer growing process. Due to the recent lettuce WWW.CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

THE RIGHT KIND OF ATTITUDE by Ania Haas Would you agree that one of the most action-oriented words for success is the word “attitude?” A positive, growth-oriented attitude adds tremendously to life. It motivates us to take the next step—to get things done.
Do you know someone with a positive attitude and strong will? Imagine this person entering the room, how do they look to you? What words do they use? What’s their body language? How does the room change when they walk in? Now, imagine a person with a negative attitude and a lack of will entering the room. How does this person look and make you feel? Do you feel attracted or pushed away? How do they affect others in the room? Notice as many differences between those two examples as you can and then ask yourself, “How is my attitude?” Your attitude reveals itself in the way you treat yourself and live your life. It will appear in everything you do, in everything you touch, and in your relationships. It’s connected to the will, which is a pure reflection of attitude. Individuals with the right attitude believe that life is good and that they can accomplish anything they wish. Their positive mood helps them to overcome obstacles. They focus on the things that go well and don’t give up when things go wrong. This healthy attitude builds their confidence and self-esteem. They trust that the universe supports them along the way. Knowing that attitude and belief go hand in hand, you might have noticed individuals who don’t want to learn or work towards goals. They don’t believe it’s worth it or that they would be appreciated. Some people believe that they aren’t good enough. They stop trying, give up their hopes and dreams and retract from life. Their negative attitude blocks them from taking the necessary steps, and their will is not strong enough to overcome their limiting beliefs. A negative attitude affects all aspects of life and also directly affects health. Stress affects body organs, lowers the immune system, and decreases longevity. The good news is that attitude and will can be trained. If your life was hard and painful yesterday that doesn’t mean that it’ll be like that tomorrow. It depends on you. How do you want it to be? You can develop your positive attitude by following simple steps: Know what you want. Have a clear, achievable, specific goal in mind. Then start thinking, feeling, and acting as if you’ve 16

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

already achieved it. In your mind, create a bookmark that says “I got it; I feel it!” This type of mental bookmark works like magic. It creates an energy that invites good things into your life. Come back to that feeling as often as you can. Your overall energy will shift from being stuck to being open. With a spark of positive attitude, you can quickly create a fire of strong will followed by positive behavior. Don’t get discouraged and don’t compare yourself. Be responsible for every action you take. Know that not everything you wish will happen exactly as wished, but it’s still worthy to do. It opens doors for opportunity. Find yourself a role model—someone you can observe and follow the same path, someone to hold you accountable. Work with a life coach. Practice positive self-talk. Instead of making yourself feel small and incapable, practice telling yourself how wonderful, lovable, and confident you are. You are brilliant—even when you fail! Failing is a natural part of life. There is no need to feel ashamed of it. Know that there are things in life that you simply can’t control. Don’t give them too much of your energy. Rather, focus on the things that are in your control. Develop the things that come to you easily, show the world your uniqueness and quirkiness. Choose to laugh. Have a good time. Celebrate your small wins and don’t take things personally. Embrace your emotional states and don’t let them define you, instead use them to become aware… and consciously create a happy and successful life. THE NEW/FULL MOON for March 2021

by Donna Stellhorn Hello everyone! I hope you’re safe and well. On Feb. 27, there is a Full Moon in Virgo—putting the focus on work, routines, and health. This month, look at how you get things done. Virgo energy is perfect for tweaking a system to make it more efficient. There’s also an emphasis on health. You might be adding more vegetables to your meals, adding medicinal mushrooms to your morning coffee, or setting up a home gym in a corner of your living room. On March 4, Mars enters Gemini, giving you the energy to go more places and do more things. You might consider taking a car trip or, if the weather permits, getting your bike out of the garage. Mars in Gemini rules dexterity, so you may be working with your hands through knitting, woodworking, or learning to juggle. There’s a New Moon in Pisces on March 13—helping you feel more spiritually connected. It’s good to do prayer, meditation or take walks in nature. You 18

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

might notice the stars and do a little moon magic when the first sliver of the Moon appears. Possibly, you’ll receive signs from the Universe, such as animals visiting your property or pairs of numbers popping up. Mercury enters Pisces on March 15, and you may feel strong connections to art, design, and fanciful romance stories. During this time, communication can take longer as people find it hard to get to the point. Time itself seems to dissolve as you sit down to watch a short video and several hours go by. On March 20, the Sun goes into Aries, marking the first day of spring. In astrology, this is called an Ingress, signifying that the Sun has entered a cardinal sign. This energy brings the urge to do something— to act—and to be in motion. From an astrological standpoint, this is the beginning of the year; you might want to review your goals for the next 12 months. Venus follows the Sun into Aries on March

21. You can feel impatient to get what you want during this time. You want to avoid standing in line or waiting for your number to be called. One good use of this energy is to remind yourself what you like. Try to separate your feelings from all the advertising and influence of today’s media. On March 22, Mars makes a trine to Saturn. This is a point of concentrated energy. Now you can tackle a project that needs endurance, focus, or grit. You can do “deep work.” This could be a side business, building a garage, or setting out to hike the Continental Divide Trail. This aspect lends itself to good old-fashioned hard work. Finally, on March 28, there is the Full Moon in Libra, focusing your energy on relationships and balance. We’ll talk more about this next month.

Aries At the beginning of the month, you may feel a little stuck, like projects are taking

much longer than you had planned. Soon, you’ll feel in harmony with the Mars-inGemini energy. Ask, and you shall receive, especially when it comes to financial gain this month. Don’t hesitate to ask for the sale or raise. While friendships are abundant, romance can be a little bumpy. If it’s a new relationship, move slowly until a secret is revealed. You’re quite intuitive now and an herbal formula could be helpful.

sales, or working more hours. You could be getting very serious about a love relationship. If you’re dating, you might be talking about living together or getting married. Communication with friends can be challenging. Be careful not to forget a special occasion. Small tweaks in your diet can make a big difference in your physical well-being.

with whom you have good chemistry. Financially, things are humming along. You look like you’re making more than a typical month without working harder. There is a lot of activity at home. You may be doing some redecorating or welcoming home a family member who’s been away. Be careful parking your car to avoid getting a big scratch.

Taurus

Virgo

Capricorn

This month, Mars moves from your sign of Taurus into your house of money. You could find revenue flows more easily in general. There is positive energy around your career and reputation. If you’re looking for a new job, an offer could come in this month. Also, it would be good to look at how you schedule your day to see where you can save some time and effort. A friend might want to fix you up on a date. Love is possible now. You might be enamored with the new tech item.

Mars crosses the top of your chart and goes into your house of career. You could get a new job or a transfer within the company to be on a new team. You may be working a side job as well, building up your business. An issue with the government or with paperwork, in general, is cleared up. Your love relationship could be going quite well. Your partner may be very supportive at this time. You’re in harmony with the energy for improving your health, especially through changes in your daily routine.

As Mars enters your house of work, you are busier than ever. You might be taking on an extra project, training a new coworker, or your side business is taking off. Financially, things are better as well, but you are being frugal and pocketing the money rather than spending it. There is good communication between you and your partner. If you’re looking for love, start chatting on the phone with prospective dates. A friend might ask for help (advice or cash) for their startup business.

Gemini

Libra

Mars moves from your hidden house into your own sign of Gemini, giving you a burst of energy and confidence. Your charisma and magnetism are very strong now, and you can attract helpful people to you. There’s an opportunity for a romantic relationship, as well as a connection with someone who can help you in business. This is a good time to catch up on paperwork. This could mean filling out applications or shredding old records. An organization you belong to may want you to run for office.

Mars enters your house of knowledge and wisdom, and you may be quite interested in studying a new topic. You could do an accelerated program or get a self-study video course. Romantic energy is focused on the physical. If you’re looking for love, you could find someone with really great chemistry. Long-term relationships need some TLC. You might need to spend more time talking and connecting. You may be getting ready to launch a creative project— this has the makings of being a success.

Mars goes into your house of fun and risktaking, and you may feel like finding some adventure. Consider trying some new things like brand-new foods, traveling to parts of your city to which you’ve never been or waking up at 4 a.m. to go on a jog. Money is flowing in, but it’s also flowing out again as you make a couple of purchases you’ve wanted to do for some time. There are some possible changes at home with someone moving out or moving in. You can ace a test now.

Cancer

Scorpio

As Mars changes signs, it moves into your house of working behind the scenes. This is a good time to close the office door to finish your screenplay, annual reports, or prepare for a professional exam. There’s a lot of intimate energy for you this month, so Cancer native, you could get lucky. There also could be connections with people who live far away, such as relatives who live out of the country. If you’re focusing on paying off debt or making investments, you can get help with this now.

Mars moves into your house of resources and investments. This is a good time to apply for funding for a business or a bill consolidation loan. You may be very attracted to a risky investment, but it’s good to do some due diligence before proceeding. This month, you could be swept off your feet by love. If you’re already in a love relationship, you may be falling in love all over again. There could be some challenges at home with things connected to electrical, heating, or airflow. Repairs might be needed.

Leo

Sagittarius

With Mars changing signs, you may have the opportunity to make more money through your job. This could be due to a new position, increased commission on

As Mars changes signs, it crosses into your house of relationships bringing you opportunities for love and friendship. You could find a great conversationalist

Aquarius

Pisces As Mars changes signs, it crosses into your fourth house, bringing a lot of energy and activity to your home and family. You might be preparing to move, do renovations or declutter. Your charisma is quite high, and you are attracting friendship and even love. Pisces natives already in a love relationship, show a lot of intimate time behind closed doors. A physical issue improves as you find a new exercise or stretching routine. You may get into puzzles or other mental challenges this month just for fun.

FOOD FOR FITNESS Nutrition for Athletes by Betsy Bruns When it comes to exercise, leaning out, and building muscle, the proverbial nutrition plan in modern history has been akin to Rocky Balboa’s. For those of you too young to remember in the 1976 movie, Rocky, Sylvester Stallone plays a lovable loan shark debt collector with a dream. In this rag to riches story, he gets a shot at the title of the heavyweight championship of the world. He ruthlessly trains in a “no pain, no gain” style, using sides of beef as punching bags while eating lots of meat, washed down with pints of raw eggs. Spoiler alert! He wins. 20

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

These days, fitness is a bit kinder. Some athletes no longer subscribe to the “no pain, no gain” theory: as it can lead to too many injuries. Others have stepped away from the “ham-and-egger” approach: as it can result in too many heart attacks.

comes across information about the remains of Roman gladiators found in a burial site. It turns out the remains of these fighters show that they ate a predominantly vegetarian diet. He travels the world on a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength.

Enter plant fitness. In 2018, The Game Changers, a different kind of fight movie, hit theatres. It’s a documentary film starring James Wilks, an elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter. His quest starts as he’s recovering from an injury and looking for ways to heal faster. He

Spoiler alert! Plants win. According to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a plantbased diet provides supreme nutrition for training sessions and competition. An optimal sports diet for performance, recovery and health is found in the Power Plate—grains, vegetables,

legumes and fruits. By choosing generous servings of these nutrientdense foods, your body will reap the benefits. Watch the movie, The Game Changers, to learn about the stunning results today’s elite athletes are experiencing.

milk substitutes or soft tofu with your favorite fresh or frozen fruits for a thick, delicious, creamy high-protein shake. Marinated tempeh or veggie burgers, grilled on a bun or added to pasta sauce, offer a quick protein boost to any meal.

THE POWER PLATE

ENCHANTED SMOOTHIE BOWL*

Whole grains: Choose whole-grain bread, cereal, rice, and pasta. They are rich in complex carbohydrates, fiber, zinc, and B vitamins. A single serving also provides about two to three grams of protein. Vegetables: Choose a variety of colorful red, orange, and yellow vegetables, in addition to leafy greens for vitamin C, beta-carotene, and other antioxidants that will protect your body from the stress of exercise. These foods also provide iron, calcium, fiber, and a modest two grams of protein per serving. Legumes: Choose a variety of beans (chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans, great northern beans), as well as soy milk, tofu, tempeh, and textured vegetable protein. They are not only high in protein, (about seven to ten grams per serving), but they are also rich in complex carbohydrates, fiber, iron, calcium, and B vitamins. Fruits: Choose a variety of fruits and fruit juices for extra vitamins, especially vitamin C. By choosing fruits of different colors, you can ensure a variety of vitamins and minerals. Vitamin B12 supplement: A multivitamin/mineral supplement or vitamin B12 supplement can be taken daily or every other day to cover nutritional needs. Fortified foods, such as fortified breakfast cereal or fortified soy and rice milk substitutes, may also contain the active form of vitamin B12, cyanocobalamin. If you are an athlete looking for extra protein, top salads with a variety of beans, including chickpeas, kidney beans, great northern beans, and black beans. These legumes have as much as seven to ten grams of protein per serving. Blend non-dairy

Makes 3 servings Fruits are antioxidants that help muscles to repair after a workout. Blueberries and raspberries have the highest antioxidant levels. They are a great source of carbohydrates and sirtuins. Sirtuins modulate cellular death, inflammatory pathways in the body, metabolism, and assist with recovery. This enchanting bowl will help you reach your fitness goals. 1 ½ cups frozen blueberries 1 cup frozen raspberries 1 cup sliced frozen or room-temperate overripe banana 2 cups baby spinach leaves 1 tablespoon orange juice 2 to 3 tablespoons vegan vanilla protein powder, optional 1 cup plus two to three tablespoons water or non-dairy milk substitute, for a creamy texture ½ cup sliced ripe banana ½ cup seasonal fruit, such as sliced kiwi, sliced strawberries, chopped pear, or clementine segments Chia seeds, to taste, optional Coconut flakes, to taste, optional In a blender, add one cup of the water or milk with the blueberries, raspberries, banana, spinach, juice, protein powder (if using), and puree. Add the remaining water or milk one tablespoon at a time, if needed, to thin. Only add as much as is needed to be able to blend, so the mixture stays very thick. Divide among three serving bowls and top with ripe banana, seasonal fruit, coconut flakes, and chia seeds.

CONGEE

Congee is a rice porridge that reminds me of risotto. It’s the Asian version of American chicken soup. It’s what I make for people when they’ve got a cold or

flu. Congee is also a great source of restorative healthy carbohydrates. It’s like a warm hug on a cold winter day. Fear not, spring is almost here. 4 4 1 4

cups water cups vegetable broth medium onion chopped cloves garlic, minced (or 4 teaspoons of minced garlic) 1 cup jasmine or brown rice 2 inches fresh ginger, minced 2 carrots, chopped 1 medium sweet or russet potato, cubed 10 ounces mushroom, chopped Salt and pepper to taste Greens for serving, optional Optional toppings (use your favorites): Green onions Cilantro Tangy/spicy sauce of choice (I like Tiger or sweet chili sauce.) Soy Sauce Peanuts Sesame seeds Shelled edamame Tofu cubes In a six-quart pot or larger, add all ingredients, minus any of the suggested toppings and greens. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for at least one hour and up to 90 minutes, stirring occasionally. You want the rice to break down to a creamy porridge. Once cooked, add salt and pepper to taste. Wilting greens upon serving will add vital nutrition. Toppings are optional but highly recommended. I enjoy plain congee, but it’s more delicious with sauces and additions. Betsy Bruns is a plant-based health coach, “Food for Life” instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and an Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner. When she isn’t making healing food taste like comfort food or helping clients tap away stress and cravings with EFT, she’s soaking up nature and dreaming of ways to make life more delicious for all beings. COSMIC DAILY WEATHER March 2021 by Bernadette Evans

Overview

It feels like there is some movement this month as all the planets are direct for March. Mars gets cerebral when it enters the sign of Gemini, melding action with communication and intellect. You could be excited about some upcoming projects and are eager to get your ideas out there. This month is the spring equinox here in the northern hemisphere, while it’s the fall equinox in the southern hemisphere. For those of us in the north, this heralds the coming of summer, and summer always feels hopeful! The New Moon is in Pisces on March 13. This new moon has a dreamy quality to it. What are you fantasizing about creating? New moons are a great time to begin a new practice. With it being in Pisces, maybe it’s time to begin a meditation practice. The Full Moon is in Libra on March 28. Full moons can be a time when we release what’s no longer working for us. In Libra, it may have to do with a relationship. Maybe you and your partner—or someone else in your life—need to discuss what you each need. Having an honest conversation is always a good thing. The Moon takes about 28 days to complete its orbit through the twelve signs, staying approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void of Course (VoC), it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets before it leaves the sign it’s in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish a task. You may want to relax, meditate, or do something where your focus is turned inward. Don’t try and get a new project off the ground when the Moon is void. If you want to find out more about the Void of Course Moon, check out moontracks.com. The times below are listed in Central Standard Time (CST) until March 14 when it switches over to Central Daylight Time (CDT).

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE MARCH 2021

Monday, March 1 The Moon in Libra trines Mercury and Jupiter. There could be a strong desire to connect, socialize, and communicate with others. Relationships play a key role. You may want to share your ideas and see what happens. Any communication—whether it’s through writing, speaking, or channeling—is favored today. You’re in tune with your feelings and able to express them easily.

Tuesday, March 2 The day starts with the Moon square Pluto. It can be an intense energy. Maybe something has come to a head and is finished. Endings can be difficult but are sometimes necessary. There is light at the end of the tunnel; it just may take you a while to recognize it. When the Moon quincunx Mars in the afternoon, you’re passionate about a venture, but your efforts aren’t producing the results you want. It will all come together...eventually…be patient. Moon VoC at 8:09 a.m. until 2:38 p.m. when it enters the sign of Scorpio.

Wednesday, March 3 When Venus sextiles Uranus, you could be wanting to spice things up. You may be feeling flirtatious and have a fling, or you may just enjoy

entertaining the idea of someone new. It comes down to wanting different experiences; you don’t want to be fenced in. You may find that anything unusual arouses your interest. There’s also the chance of unexpected money flowing in. Mars enters the sign of Gemini at 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, March 4 You could be quite chatty when Mercury conjoins Jupiter, or someone else could be talking your ear off. Ideas are plentiful when Mercury and Jupiter get together, so make sure to write them all down before they disappear. You’re trying to incorporate these gems into a sound business plan to make money. Generously sharing your thoughts with others makes for lively conversations, and you’re happy to share the credit. You’re trying to see the big picture. Remember to take time and just enjoy your friends’ company today too. Moon VoC at 10:10 a.m. until 4:43 p.m. when it enters the sign of Sagittarius.

Friday, March 5 When the Moon squares the Sun, your emotions could be competing with your ego and your desires. It’s the last quarter square before the new moon. Is there something you’ve been meaning to get to but have been putting off? Are you thinking about past relationships and wishing for a return of an old love? Be present now and act in your current relationships— whatever that looks like.

Saturday, March 6 The Moon is Void of Course in Sagittarius for most of the day. You may need some R&R today. So, take time to rest. Spiritual practices, such as meditation, journaling or yoga, may feel easier to do today. Follow your natural rhythms and see what comes up. Moon VoC at 3:44 a.m. until 8:20 p.m. when it enters the sign of Capricorn.

Sunday, March 7 The Moon trine Uranus aspect could be the ideal time to walk away from an old habit and begin a new chapter. Try it out and see how it feels. The new and unusual is enticing. Be open-minded and stay flexible, you never know what or who is around the corner.

Monday, March 8 The Moon-Pluto conjunction may bring up feelings of being controlled. You could feel that someone is pressuring or manipulating you, and you’re not sure how this happened. You may think your hands are tied, and there’s no way out of a relationship or a situation. Take control of your life and distance yourself from the person or situation. Move in a direction you choose. Moon VoC at 6:52 p.m.

Tuesday, March 9 There’s the possibility of angry words being thrown about when the Moon squares Uranus. You’re not sure what’s going on or how it happened, but you feel you’re guarded and have to defend yourself. Maybe discuss it with someone impartial and get them to mediate and smooth things over. Moon enters the sign of Aquarius at 1:41 a.m.

Wednesday, March 10 Sensitivity, intuition, and empathy are heightened when the Sun conjoins Neptune. Being in tune with the emotions of others and wanting to help them is admirable and w onderful; just don’t take on their problems. Remember, you need some boundaries and your own personal space. Don’t deplete your energy to bolster someone else’s. It may feel like you’re lost and not sure what direction to take. Quit looking for answers from everyone else and trust your intuition. Take off the blinders; you know what you’re doing. When the Sun and Neptune join hands, expect fantasy and illusion to make an appearance. Escaping by watching a movie, reading a book, or listening to music would be a great use of this energy. Be wary of getting sucked into any conspiracy theories or getting duped by a smooth-talking salesperson. Moon VoC at 9:32 p.m.

Thursday, March 11 Emotions may bubble up to the surface when the Moon squares Mars. It’s good to release any pent-up sadness or anger as long as you’re not directing it towards anyone. If you need to, have a good cry. Once you’ve given yourself permission to cry and grieve, you’ll be able to heal so you can move forward. Moon enters the sign of Pisces at 8:44 a.m.

Friday, March 12 Love may be in the air when the Moon and Venus conjoin. Ahhh…can you feel it? It’s a hopeful, dreamy state where you share something with another. Maybe it’s romantic. Maybe it’s spiritual. It could be the love you feel for your family or a cherished pet. It really doesn’t matter. It’s an optimistic faith that keeps you going. It’s a time of peace, harmony, and feeling valued.

Saturday, March 13 The New Moon is at 23 degrees of Pisces at 4:21 a.m. Venus and Neptune are snuggled up to the Sun and the Moon, and together, they sing a beautiful song—a melody of beauty, harmony, joy, friendships, love, and gratitude. Remember new moons are about beginnings. It may take some time for your dreams to take

root, but plant the seeds and remember to act. Let the Universe figure out the perfect timing of it all. Caution: With all this lovely energy, it’s easy to overindulge with food, drugs, alcohol, or spending. Moon VoC at 10:38 a.m. until 5:44 p.m. when it enters the sign of Aries.

Sunday, March 14 Daylight saving time begins. You could still feel some of the residual love-fest hangover from yesterday’s Pisces New Moon. Today, the Moon moves into Aries, forming sextiles with Mars and Saturn. Contact your friends and tell them about some of your ideas for your work. They’ll be impressed by your passion and enthusiasm for your project and will be happy to support you. Having good friends, who have your back and cheer you on, feels darn good. The MoonSaturn sextile says you may want some time alone with your thoughts. So basically, in the morning you start off excited and are ready to take on the world, but by the afternoon you could be ready for a nap.

Monday, March 15 You may feel out of sorts—possibly cranky—and you’re not sure why. The Moon-Pluto square gives you a chance to get in touch with your feelings and figure out what’s bothering you. Take some time; (it doesn’t have to be hours) to tap into your inner wisdom and see where it takes you. Look past the mundane and see what’s behind the curtain. Mercury enters the sign of Pisces at 5:26 p.m. Moon VoC at 10:40 p.m.

Tuesday, March 16 You may have felt the energy of the Sun-Pluto sextile for a few days. You could feel like you need to make a move either to advance your career or to partner up with someone. There’s a desire to transform situations; just make sure the changes are for the good of the group. On another note, you might feel particularly attractive – you’ve certainly got people’s attention. Moon enters the sign of Taurus at 5:56 a.m.

Wednesday, March 17 When the Moon’s in Taurus, you may feel like indulging your senses. Bake a sweet treat, dance to music, have a luxurious bath, or enjoy a leisurely walk in nature. Enjoy the earthy, sensual nature and remember all things in moderation…and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Thursday, March 18 The Moon, Venus, and Pluto are all playing together nicely, which can make for a fabulous day. A lot of people are being helpful and generous towards others. Working with colleagues on a project is a little easier when WWW.CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

everyone is focused on a common goal. The Venus-Pluto sextile may up the charisma and smoldering factor, but you also want to connect on a deeper level. You want to really know them. Moon VoC at 3:40 p.m. until 6:47 p.m. when it enters the sign of Gemini.

Friday, March 19 You feel confident in your abilities when the Moon conjoins Mars. You know what you can do and what you want, and you’re not afraid to go for it. Your excitement can be irresistible which makes for a great leader. Stay focused on your task, don’t get distracted, and you should be able to accomplish a lot. One last note, be sure to share the credit with your co-workers or your partner, then everyone benefits.

Saturday, March 20 Happy Birthday, dear Aries! The Sun enters the sign of Aries at 4:37 a.m. This is when we celebrate the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. There are conflicting energies today. With the Moon-Jupiter trine, you could be optimistic, generous, and excited; you want to hang out with your friends. When the Moon squares Neptune, you may feel confused. It could be about a relationship, work, anything…but everything is not what it seems. Your sensitivity is magnified today, but your perception could be skewed. Don’t do anything rash. Instead, use this energy to be creative or escape by getting lost in a book, a movie, or an art project.

Sunday, March 21 Whenever Uranus is involved expect the unexpected. When Uranus sextiles Mercury,

there could be fun encounters. Unusual ideas and conversations with friends are possible. An old way of thinking may be replaced by an unexpected revelation. Have fun sharing your insights with others. The Mars-Saturn trine can help you focus on a task or an idea. You’re able to follow through on things you feel passionate about, building a strong foundation. Mars and Saturn together can give you stamina in other areas too, wink, wink. Venus enters the sign of Aries at 9:16 a.m. Moon VoC at 7:04 a.m. until 7:18 a.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.

attention to unexpected opportunities that may come your way.

Monday, March 22

The Moon enters the sign of Libra at 12:22 a.m. with the Full Moon at 8 degrees at 1:48 p.m. Venus plays a big part as she is in conjunction with the Sun and opposite the Moon. This full moon’s focus is on relationships. You could have a push/pull between wanting to be independent and assertive but trying to be accommodating in your relationships. It’s okay to be vocal about what you need and go for it; just remember to listen to your partner about what they need. Hopefully, you’ll be able to hear each other and work out any differences.

The Moon in Cancer suggests that it’s time to nurture yourself. It may be time to recharge your batteries. When you look after your needs, you’ll be refreshed and better able to handle whatever comes your way. You could also feel like nurturing those you love by tending to their needs. It satisfies our basic need for home, family, and connection.

Tuesday, March 23 Today, the Moon opposes Pluto and Mercury squares Mars. Both of these energies point to being irritated and saying something that could result in an argument. It can also show up as someone biting your head off and looking for a fight. Reflecting on how you feel and the best way to express that would be helpful. If you can, take a break – even if it’s only 10 minutes away from everyone else. If you do, you’ll feel grounded and centered and can speak from a calmer place. Moon VoC at 10:26 a.m. until 4:56 p.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Wednesday, March 24 When the Moon opposes Saturn, there’s a good chance you’re feeling lonely, isolated, sad, or bored. Try not to dwell on the negative. This too shall pass, as do most things. Wait it out and the clouds will eventually dissipate.

Thursday, March 25 Feeling cheerful and optimistic? You can thank the Sun-Venus conjunction. When these two get together, you could be more playful and want to socialize. Finances may be good right now, and you feel generous. The only caution is to take it easy with the credit card; don’t go overboard with your spending. Moon VoC at 8:27 a.m. until 10:25 p.m. when it enters the sign of Virgo.

Friday, March 26 When the Moon trines Uranus, your eyes may be wandering. You could be looking for something different and exciting to grab your interest. You’re looking for something shiny and new and that gets your blood pumping. Pay

Saturday, March 27 Your sensitivity is heightened when the Moon opposes Neptune. You could feel confused about your emotions and any information you’re picking up. Something isn’t clear. Until you know exactly what’s going on with a person or a situation, don’t act rashly. You’ll feel better when you know all the facts. Moon VoC at 6:48 p.m.

Sunday, March 28

Monday, March 29 The emphasis is on intuition, dreams, and communication when Mercury conjoins Neptune. Psychic impressions are extremely strong at this time. You could receive messages in your dreams. This would be a great time to pursue something in the arts, as well as study tarot or astrology. Be open to the signs and have fun playing with this energy. You never know where it will lead you. Moon VoC at 7:08 p.m.

Tuesday, March 30 You have an opportunity to strengthen the foundations of your relationships when Venus sextiles Saturn. Do you need to have a conversation to find out what each other wants? A discussion could shed light on where this partnership is headed. Moon enters the sign of Scorpio at 12:33 a.m.

Wednesday, March 31 Focus, determination and perseverance are the cornerstones of the Sun-Saturn sextile. You have the opportunity to build on your dreams with a steadfast approach. Success is achieved by consistently doing the work and putting one foot in front of the other. The “Laziness Lie” has been around ever since the Puritans insisted that hard work was the way to achieve success and please God. Since then, this idea has only become more commonplace. Devon Price shares research that shows that people today are doing more work than ever before yet still feel like they are not doing enough. Price encourages readers to let go of the guilt we have been taught to feel if we fail to meet the impossible work expectations that perpetuate in our society. Instead, he inspires readers to become more connected and respectful of their limitations and embrace doing enough instead of always needing to do more.

The Two Hands of God: The Myths of Polarity, by Alan Watts (New World Library, $17.95, Paperback)

We first learn about opposites in early childhood; however, polarity is a very complex concept that is a fundamental core of life itself. Alan Watts takes readers on a journey through time with a compilation of myths and mythical images scarcely studied by modern mystics and scholars that accurately portray the concept of polarity. While the nature of polarity can be difficult to explain with words, this anthology provided by Watts helps readers to understand the concept itself and find the deeper meaning underneath it all that transcends duality.
