PUBLISHER’S LETTER

THE CORONAVIRUS FROM A HIGHER PERSPECTIVE I

f you’re like me, you’re currently feeling a wide range of emotions as we try to navigate these uncharted times. I am with you, and I am taking this one day at a time. Conscious Community Magazine is still open, and we will be carrying on with business as usual. Conscious Community Magazine’s mission statement is to elevate the consciousness of humanity one reader at a time. Especially at this time, we need to band together, support each other and stay positive during this pandemic. We also need to take the necessary precautions, like washing your hands, covering your mouth with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing, and keeping a social distance of six feet, to stop the spreading of the virus and stay healthy. Viruses have been with us for millions of years, and they did not defeat us then and will not defeat us now. We are stronger than we think we are! To elevate your spirit and clear your mind, we have prepared a fantastic April issue. We are focusing on inner power, abundance and prosperity. You create your own reality by your thoughts, and you have the power to choose how you want to feel. Let’s start thinking about the life that you would like to have after this pandemic ends. What would you like to create?

Also, I had a channeling session with Judith Monahan about this coronavirus (COVID-19). Here is some of the information that I received from higher consciousness: • The coronavirus that is going around our planet right now is about connectedness. Take care of yourself while taking care of others. • This virus is highly contagious. We need to take some precautions, like washing our hands, eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, keeping a personal distance, taking bigger doses of Vitamin C, as well as using essential oils that have a higher vibration than any virus. • A lot of people feel fear at this time. All viruses are low vibration. Elevated stress and fear that is activated in our bodies can be old, unresolved, repressed fears and panic that may be from generation upon generation. When you feel fear rise, go for a walk, breathe deeply, pray, meditate or start dancing to allow your body to release old, repressed fears. • When you put yourself in a state of balance and love energy, you elevate your vibration and support your immune system. If you need help to release some of the stress that you are feeling right now, I highly recommend using articles, and practitioners and healers from the Conscious Community Magazine Business Directory that can help release some of that tension you feel. • After the virus stops spreading, the world will be in a different state of consciousness, more positive, community oriented. You can listen to the whole channeling session about this coronavirus (COVID-19) on our website: www.ConsciousCommunityMagazine.com and our YouTube Channel@ConsciousCommunityMagazine. Stay healthy and vibrant! Until next time,

[COMMUNITY Q&A]

cal overload, toxic foods, pharmaceuticals, trauma, mental/emotional imbalances, as well as cultural programming.

ASK ALECIA by Alecia Rice

Q: I’m so ungrounded and fearful lately. I feel like it’s controlling me. How can I change this? —Fearfully Ungrounded A: Dear Fearfully Ungrounded, Fear is merely a thought, yet it can feel very real and solid. It spawns anxiety which controls and cripples us if it’s allowed to have free reign. It’s contagious and acts much like a virus and negatively affects our health through the subsequent physical stress responses. Should it take root, it can spread exponentially to others. It’s imperative to step into the driver’s seat for better control. Presence is one antidote. Fear only exists in contemplating the future, so one of our most effective tools is bringing ourselves fully into presence through grounding practices like meditation, breathwork and yoga which help ease the “monkey mind.”

Q: I’m freaked out that so many things in society are breaking down, like store shelves being empty from fear of COVID-19. Any tips on how to think about what’s happening? — Seeking Refuge A: Dear Seeking Refuge, First, follow my advice for the above question for grounding to clear the mind. We can then build from there, as this is a time of raising consciousness, compassion, and brotherhood. I’m going to concentrate on shifting perspective by highlighting the silver linings to create some positive rays of sunshine and higher purpose in the presence of dark storm clouds.

Fear can often be dissolved with conscious attention to grounding practices and mindfulness. We can also ask ourselves questions to pinpoint the root of the fear, such as, “What am I actually afraid of,” as it often masquerades as an imposter for other fears.

One silver lining in this disruption is that we’re being guided more towards thoughts of self-sufficiency. As commercial products come into short supply and higher demand, we can google alternatives that we can make at home like hand sanitizer. We’re being prompted to do those things that we know are right but are often too distracted to do, like boosting immune systems by eating nutritious whole-foods instead of processed foods; strengthening the body with herbs, teas, and supplements; getting better sleep and exercising to ward off disease.

There are many techniques for grounding and dissolving fear. I suggest googling “5-4-3-2-1 grounding,” or “how to ground spiritually” for a variety of options. Searching “detachment” and “how to dissolve fear” will bring up a host of techniques and practices as well. For a better sense of balance in a fluctuating world, start each day by grounding yourself before engaging with social media or others.

Lightworkers like myself, and many of the practitioners in this magazine, have been preparing for decades to be of service during disruptive, unstable times. We assist people in calming themselves, coping with stress, healing, and balancing the mind, body and spirit. We’ve been studying healing arts, personal energy management, medicinal herbs, essential oils, homeopathic medicines, etc. to help humanity heal and detox from chemi-

Contracting with local alternative health practitioners shifts money from the corporate level to supporting individuals and their families, which I believe is the next phase of “buying local.” We can then continue learning and developing relationships with caring, present practitioners long after the storm clouds have passed. During the disruption, it’s imperative that we flow without resistance. This often means seeking out trusted resources to help us cope with the new normal. Such shifts can inspire us to self-educate on the nature of consciousness, detoxing spiritually and physically, setting firm boundaries, as well as learning about how chemicals and EMFs disrupt the endocrine system, while studying practices that strengthen the body, mind and spirit for personal balance. Collectively, we need a shift in consciousness. Not much shakes us out of slumber more quickly than discomfort. It thrusts us out of routine which causes us to see things differently. I see positivity in being forced to slow down, to be more internal instead of being distracted by the external. Such change prompts us to spend more quality time with people we love, instead of being in constant movement getting to that next event. Times like these shake us loose from societal norms as we struggle to adapt and thrive. They demand our attention and presence in new ways that can shift societal norms and bring about positive change. They demand collective course corrections, like corporations being forced to encourage flexibility with employees working from home. Much of the new lessons that we learn from the current global circumstances will stick once the threat is gone. This will bring new changes that will create positive ripples throughout society. [ALL ABOUT TOWN]

BUSINESS ACCELERATOR 2020 Dr. James Dentley III

Hyatt Lodge – McDonald’s Campus, Oak Brook, IL – March 6, 2020 by Theresa Puskar “Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don’t see it in yourself.” — Dr. James Dentley Speaking of greatness, have you noticed how certain people own the room when you walk into it? They have a commanding presence that directs your eye to them, so much so, that you can’t help but listen when they speak. Such is the case with Dr. James Dentley. Last November, my brilliant marketing coach, Tajuana Ross, suggested that I attend Dr. Dentley’s Inspired2Speak weekend conference at the Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook. As is so often the case when I’m given a directive that I am meant to heed, all of the elements fell into place. My weekend schedule was wide open and the venue turned out to be five minutes from my home. While I was Left to right: Dr. Kara Scott-Dentley, Theresa Puskar, Dr. James Dentley still in the midst of 8

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE APRIL 2020

writing my second book, I got a clear message from that wise, still voice within me, that attending this event was a priority. I went and was not disappointed! Upon arrival, I was immediately taken aback. After attending hundreds of conferences, I noted that the vibe was something I had never experienced before. The extraordinary quality of the event—along with the character of the presenters and attendees—was inspiring and eye-opening. Fast-forward four months and Dr. Dentley held another conference from March 6 - 8, 2020. This conference was even more transformative! “Each of us has the power and the potential to do even greater things than we can imagine. The question is, ‘Who will lose when we decide not to win?’” — Dr. James Dentley What was different was that the room was filled with winners. People who believed in themselves and held a strong abundance consciousness. Within minutes, I learned that lack consciousness and negative talk were not permitted. Forgive me, fellow consciousness-seekers, but I have noted, especially as of late, that there is often a great deal of lack consciousness among the spiritual seekers that I have been in community with. (I include myself in this realization.) While I can’t speak for you, I know that I need to be re-programmed. I have known

this for quite some time. In response, I set an intention to shift out of lack and into abundance consciousness. I felt like this event was the seed that planted the foundation for my life to open to greater valuing of myself and my skills. In embracing this, I look forward to receiving the energetic reciprocity for my talents and skills in the form of greater financial well-being. I know with all of my heart and soul that my time is now. My bank account needs to reflect the wealth of soul, passion and skills that I possess. Perhaps, now is your time as well? To backtrack a moment, let me share a bit about the event’s host, Dr. Dentley: Dr. James Dentley is a world-renowned professional speaker, trainer, author, entrepreneur and business strategist to many notable business celebrities. He has been a successful entrepreneur for over 30 years, helping over 400,000 people throughout the world learn what it takes to become highperformers in their business and personal lives. He has personally helped to create over 80 millionaires by using his proven success strategies. Furthermore, James has also consulted with many companies in the areas of training, profitability, communication and leadership development. “We are all unique and, just like everyone else, we are where we decide to be. Conformity is the enemy of creativity.” — Dr. James Dentley Dr. Dentley hosted a plethora of amazing expert speakers at both events. At the most recent one, three of the keynote guests were Sharon Lechter, co-author and co-founder of the Rich Dad empire, Chantelle Simone and Theresa Puskar Dr. Sonja Stribling, founder of Born to Be Powerful Academy, and Bill Walsh, founder of Powerteam International business success program. The Friday afternoon luncheon I attended was hosted by a fellow native Canadian, Chantelle Simone. She was a wonderful host, radiating beauty and grace both inside and out. Other workshops I was privileged to attend were presented by Dr. Kara Dentley (Lifestyle Ambassador), Heather Schooler (Business Growth), Jay Johnson (Presentation Expert) and another native Canadian, Susan McVea (Success Sales Strategies). What was most outstanding about Susan’s workshop was her commitment that each and every individual in attendance would leave with new Susan McVea and Theresa Puskar

knowledge and valuable information that they can immediately apply to improve their business. Her generosity of spirit and that of the other presenters was palpable, inspiring and deeply appreciated! I was also blessed to have an opportunity to speak with Dr. Dentley as a panelist with my dear, wise friend, June Kortum (the founder of Gathering Lighthouse and the host of their upcoming Women in Business luncheon on March 26, 2020.) I am excited to be a panelist at her luncheon as well. It too models higherconsciousness, focusing on supporting women in business. “Stop dreaming about a better life and live life better!” — Dr. James Dentley Dr. Dentley is a driven man who has overcome a great deal. How? Through sheer determination and the will to accept nothing less than affirmative messaging. His wonderful wife, Dr. Kara Scott-Dentley, exudes warmth and a wealth of compassion, joy and love. Dancing at these events with her was one of the highlights! I want to be clear that the breakthrough that I am committed to experiencing around wealth-building is not based on materialistic needs. I know that one of my greatest life lessons is around getting out of my own way to allow myself to experience abundance. I know that as we each heal and honor this commitment with ourselves, we raise the consciousness of the world and support others in liberating themselves from their fears as well. The next Inspiration2020 Business Accelerator event will be held at the Hyatt Lodge on McDonald’s Campus, June 26 - 28, 2020. I highly encourage you to attend. At $97 (including two lunches) general admission, ticket prices are insanely cheap. If you are interested in the VIP package or want to learn more, you can call 708-691-4017 or email info@businessaccelerator2020.com. Like me, I anticipate that you will not only leave feeling more abundant, but you will have amassed a great deal of practical knowledge, inspiration and new information on how to grow and nurture your business. On a final note, my new book, 8 Ways to De-Clutter Your Brain is now available on Amazon and in other bookstores. If you enjoy my articles, be sure to purchase it. I include 12 introspective personality profiles and 25 guided meditations to assist you in quieting your mind, so you can shift from fear-based thinking into causeless joy. Theresa Puskar is a highly-skilled transformation leader, author, performer and keynote speaker. As an unabashed truth speaker and inspirational teacher, she is delighted to spread causeless joy throughout the world. A FRESH START IN LIFE Mindful Awakenings for the Heart by Sandy Daliege

10

Spring is a time of new awakenings, a promise of good things coming to life. The same applies to your personal life as well. Every moment is a new beginning, a fresh start to open up to wonderful opportunities. In the same way, you need to clear out the clutter in your junk drawer or spare bedroom, you need to declutter your heart to make room for new beauty.

The way we look at an event, a person, or even ourselves makes a difference. Mindfulness can be helpful with this process. Mindfulness is focusing your conscious awareness on what’s happening in your life. You can be mindful of the present moment or even a past event and focus on enjoying its beauty. Or, you can go in the other direction, critiquing all that’s wrong with the experience.

Too many hearts have been broken, leaving us feeling the damage is too great to repair. Nothing is beyond repair. You are an incredibly resilient human being and when you treat yourself with love and compassion, you can heal all wounds; for love is the great healer.

Have you ever had lunch with someone and you’re enjoying the moment, the surroundings, your food and friend, when suddenly they begin to point out all that’s wrong? The waiter is too slow, the food is too cold, and on and on? Are you able to continue enjoying the moment or

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE APRIL 2020

has the experience lost its sparkle? This is what we do with our lives sometimes. We miss all the beauty when we allow someone else’s point of view to take away our joy or when we allow our own inner critic to begin its rant. How do you look at life? Are you harsh and critical of yourself, demanding perfection? Do you treat others in the same way with unreasonable expectations? We all have incredible beauty within us and when we begin to focus on those qualities, we become our own best friend, rather than the critic who’s never satisfied. Your Soul has the conscious ability to help you change these self-sabotaging

behaviors and see life in a new way, for the Soul views life through the eyes of Unconditional Love. The Soul is your true identity, your Authentic Self. You do not have a Soul, rather you are the Soul—a Divine, Loving Spiritual Being connected to the Universe. Mindfulness helps you become more conscious and view life from this compassionate state of being.

Step into your true “power. Choose to view

life through the eyes of love. Become mindful of your Soul’s wisdom that is already within you, waiting to guide you to the highest expression of your heart.

Your inner critic is your wounded inner child, your subconscious, who may have experienced some kind of trauma in the past or who gets its feelings hurt or becomes worried, afraid or overwhelmed and lashes out in a negative way. Criticism can then become a habit. Your role as the Soul is like a loving parent to that child, to guide it, nurture it and help it heal. When your subconscious begins to criticize itself or others, you need to stop the critique before it gets out of hand. If you had a son or daughter and they started calling someone else names, you’d stop them. The same is true with your inner child. You’re telling yourself to stop, that this is no longer acceptable behavior and from now on, let’s look at life differently. Remember, criticism is simply a habit that can be changed by starting a more positive one. Focus on the good things you’ve already brought into your life, your blessings, your accomplishments, your talents and strengths and that becomes your new habit. Looking at life this way will also increase your self-esteem and self-worth. This retraining will take repetition, patience and a lot of love, but the result is well worth it. You’re helping yourself see how beautiful

and valuable you are, which allows your subconscious to begin to see the wonder of life again just like a child. Where the past is concerned, you may feel unable to move forward, wounded from a past experience. Conscious awareness can even help you see your past in a new way to heal the old wounds, take a breath and welcome a fresh start. By observing your past in this way, you can learn from it, see how you would handle the situation differently now, and then let it go. This is extremely freeing when you realize no past event or person can limit you; rather, you have the power to choose, not only your future but even the way you view your past. Step into your true power. Choose to view life through the eyes of love. Become mindful of your Soul’s wisdom that is already within you, waiting to guide you to the highest expression of your heart. When you choose to follow

your loving, compassionate nature, you open your awareness to even more blessings. People and circumstances in harmony with your Authentic Self bring incredible opportunities to enjoy a beautiful, fulfilling life. Enjoy the beauty that exists in every moment. Give yourself the gift of Love and experience a fresh start! Sandy Daliege designed the Arche Meditation Center of Purpose and Joy to help Souls find what they’ve been searching for; their true identity to create a life filled with purpose, peace, good health, great relationships, love, laughter and joy. [FROM THE HEART]

THE SANITY OF FAIR EXCHANGE by Alan Cohen

As I was walking into a local market, a homeless woman stopped me. I had seen her from afar, talking to herself, apparently mentally unbalanced. She asked if I would buy her some potato chips. “Sure,” I told her. “What kind would you like?” “Lay’s—spicy, please.” Tickled that she knew what she wanted, I got her a large bag and gave it to her on my way out of the store. In her hand, she now held an ice cream cone. (Apparently, she worked lots of folks who entered the shop.) Then the disheveled woman did something surprising: She gave me the ice cream cone in exchange for the chips. Touched by her generosity, I told her I really didn’t want the cone; it was all hers. But she insisted, so I took it. 12

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE APRIL 2020

As I drove away, I realized that even distraught or unbalanced souls understand the principle of sharing and fair exchange. Something inside a human being wants to say “thank you” when kindness is given. Sometimes people who hit bottom are even more sensitive to the importance of helping each other. In the inspiring Netflix series, The Kindness Diaries, adventurist/philanthropist Leon Logothetis travels around the globe without using money and, as a social experiment, asks people he encounters to help him by giving him food, a place to sleep or gas for his motorcycle. Many people turn Leon down, but a number of thoughtful people generously support him. Tony, a homeless man in Pittsburgh, offered Leon a mat to sleep on in the doorway where Tony had taken shelter, and

a blanket to keep him warm. He gave Leon food and offered him a new package of underwear that someone had given him. Tony had next to nothing, but he was willing to share it. Perhaps it was because he had next to nothing that he understood the value of helping. As a reward, Leon gave Tony full tuition to attend a training program that would get him a job as a skilled worker and provide him with a good income. As Leon announced this gift, tears flowed from Tony’s eyes. The circle of kindness was complete. Right livelihood, as Buddha called it, is built on a fair and equal exchange of goods and services. In my book, Spirit Means Business, I identify 10 illusions that keep us stuck in fear about money and business, as well as the 10 truths that liberate us. One of the illusions is the goal to get as much as you can while giving as little as you can. To a spiritually awakened person, this goal is meaningless and unattractive. When someone helps you by serving you a meal, providing transportation or giving you a massage, it is natural and soul-fulfilling to want to help them in exchange. When we reframe the circulation of money as the passing around of love, we step into a prosperity mindset and we thrive.

Sometimes people with mental “disabilities are closer to heaven than many other people. That homeless woman was willing to ask for love, accept it and give it. May we all become so sane.

need to express it every day. Not because that will make us a good person or God will reward us one day, but because gratitude heals the giver and the receiver. AbrahamHicks teaches that gratitude is the state of mind most representative of our true nature and thus lifts us closest to heaven. We are told many times in the Bible that God wants to give all to us. If we are going to have all, we must be willing to receive all. God puts no restrictions on the volume of blessings we can have. We are the ones who limit ourselves. The purpose of the spiritual path is to take the lid off of the good that we are open to receive so that we can have it all. Sometimes people with mental disabilities are closer to heaven than many other people. That homeless woman was willing to ask for love, accept it and give it. May we all become so sane. Alan Cohen is the author of many inspirational books including Spirit Means Business. Become a certified professional holistic teacher in Alan’s life-changing Holistic Seminar Leadership Training beginning April 15, 2020. For information on this program, Alan’s books, videos, audios, online courses, retreats, as well as other inspirational events and materials, visit www.alancohen.com.

The homeless woman also taught me the importance of being an open receiver. Although I initially resisted, I accepted the ice cream cone. Many of us are good at giving, but we block receiving. Such resistance impedes the circulation of prosperity as much as being stingy about giving. Every willing giver requires a willing receiver. When you are willing to receive, you allow the giver the joy of giving. My mentor, Hilda Charlton, underscored this lesson in her unique way. If someone gave Hilda a compliment like, “That was an inspiring lecture,” Hilda would give the student the opportunity to amplify the gift. “Did you really like it?” she would reply. “Oh, yes,” the student would continue, “I learned valuable tips I can use to improve my relationships.”

In her new book, 8 Ways to Declutter Your Brain,

Occasionally Hilda would lead a meditation on gratitude. She guided us to mentally thank the people who loved and helped us. Then she would add, “You can also send thanks to me—I don’t need your thanks, but you need to give it.”

ASTROLOGY AND TECHNOLOGY COLLIDE by Phyllis Light, Ph.D.

When two powerful forces come together, they create a huge impact. This is what’s happening these days as the intense astrological energies affecting us are colliding with the equally intense energies that permeate our high-technological world. Each one is having a tremendous impact on people. When the two forces come together, you may well feel like you’re barely able to survive life on the planet! Let’s talk about technology first. The space all around us is saturated with unnatural, life-draining electromagnetic fields and frequencies. These energies bombard us daily (over 300,000 per minute!), weakening our energy field and 16

| CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE APRIL 2020

draining us of vital life force and stamina. They come from our smartphones, handheld devices, computers, TV and radio satellite broadcasts, WiFi, GPS, smart meters, smart appliances in our homes, and basically, all things electric and electronic. Although technology has improved life in many ways, we have learned to ignore what is happening to us energetically. In truth, the high-tech frequencies that fill the air are disturbing our own natural energies—and weakening them–creating illness, depression, irritability and stress. Some people may even be driven to suicidal feelings. However, because the frequencies

are invisible, people don’t understand why they’re feeling this way and often think that something is wrong with them.

ship out. Being a human on the planet these days is certainly a challenge!

That is the “technology” side of what is going on today—and that alone—is having a huge energetic impact on people. But now, enter astrology…and you’ll see why it feels like the two are “colliding” and smashing us between them in the process! During most of 2019 and continuing into 2020 we have all been experiencing the profound effects of an unusual “Pluto/ Saturn” period.

With the understanding of all that’s going on, you can make new choices to support the transformation that is upon you. You can choose to take care of yourself in new ways. You can choose to let go of situations that no longer serve you, ones that you may have been holding onto in order to feel safe and secure.

Pluto brings with it powerful, deep transformational energies and an unconscious need for change. The energy is relentless and often accompanies feelings of being out of control, obsessed, overwhelmed and unable to cope, and at an extreme—feeling like you’re dying underneath the weight of it all. In a sense, you are changing who you once were, to become more of who you are. You are being forced to deal with old limitations and fears, to heal and transform them to ultimately rise above it all, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes. So, the energy of Pluto carries a certain “death” component.

You can choose to take care of “yourself in new ways. You can choose to let go of situations that no longer serve you, ones that you may have been holding onto in order to feel safe and secure.

It’s really a death leading to a potential and wonderful rebirth, but during the “death” part, it feels like death. During this period, you may be filled with fears of death or fears of impending death. (You can see this on a global scale these days—with the appearance of new viruses that are bringing up fears in many.) Now enter Saturn. Saturn is often described as the “taskmaster” who brings lessons via hardships. The ultimate purpose of Saturn is to teach us and to help us achieve a higher degree of mastery in life. But as we climb the mountain, it can seem impossible to reach the top, and often we just want to throw the towel in and give up. The journey just seems too hard.

You can choose more life-affirming activities, and be kinder to yourself, rather than judging yourself for how bad you may have been feeling. Now you know, you are NOT crazy. If you’re aware of feeling bad, do something about it. Find ways to protect yourself from the energies of a high-tech world. Find ways to deal with your feelings and negative, fearbased programs that may be surfacing within you now—for the ultimate purpose of healing. Embrace transformation, and surrender to your Highest Good. With time, attention—and perseverance—you will succeed! Phyllis Light, Ph.D., is an author, expert in “Telepathic Healing,” pioneer in subtle energy protection, as well as the creator of Rejuvenizers®—protective and healing devices designed to combat the ills of life in a high-tech world. Saturn, too, carries a sort of “death” component. Once you lose your motivation and the journey no longer feels worth the effort, you can feel depressed and even want out. Couple that with the overwhelming and out of control energies Pluto is triggering, and you have a pretty rough period for most people. Now, include the stress, depression, irritability and illness brought about by technology and all the damaging fields and frequencies that bombard us 24/7 and wham, you have a “collision” of two “giants”—astrology and technology—that are pounding on us, yelling at us to essentially shape up or

THE PLANT-BASED EASTER EGG MAKEOVER by Betsy Bruns Whether decorating eggs or deviling them, it is estimated that 180 million are purchased for Easter every year. Why has this become a tradition around the world? Easter is a religious holiday, but customs like Easter eggs may be linked to Pagan practices. An ancient symbol of new life, the egg has been associated with springtime Pagan festivals. Decorating eggs for Easter goes back as far as the 13th century. One theory for this custom is that eggs were once a forbidden food during the Lenten season. People would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance 18

and fasting. Then they would eat them on Easter as a celebration. Flash forward many centuries and many advances in science and nutrition; we now suspect that eggs may be incredibly inedible. A 2010 study in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology found a 19% increased risk for cardiovascular problems in people that consume the most eggs. A 2019 report in the Journal of the American Medical Association, tracking 30,000 participants found that eating even small amounts of eggs every day

raises the risk for both cardiovascular disease and premature death from all causes. The more eggs eaten, the higher the risk for coronary heart disease, stroke and heart failure. According to The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), Americans are on track to eat more eggs this year—about 279 eggs on average per person—than they have in nearly five decades. Part of the problem is that the egg industry has scrambled the science, keeping Americans in the dark about the link between eggs and heart disease. In recent years, the majority of studies

published on eggs and cholesterol have been funded by the egg industry itself— often resulting in misleading conclusions that downplay the dangers of eggs. So, if we decide to skip the Easter eggs this year, will we still be able to enjoy one of the most popular springtime appetizers, the deviled egg? The answer is yes and it’s in the potato. Now, you may be thinking that swapping potatoes for eggs is bad nutrition. What about the carbs? Don’t potatoes raise blood sugar? Aren’t they fattening? Here is the skinny on the much-maligned potato. Potatoes are a good source of fiber, which helps to decrease the risk of heart disease. Animal foods, such as eggs, contain no fiber. Potatoes are lower in calorie density, averaging about 370 calories per pound, which means they fill you up and keep you satisfied longer after mealtime. Potatoes are one of the most satiating foods on the planet. They are the ultimate comfort food. It’s what we put on them and in them that makes them devilish or not.

1 tablespoon pickle relish 1 tablespoon mustard 1 teaspoon (or to taste) black salt, also called Kala Namak 1 teaspoon (or to taste) black pepper Paprika, optional DIRECTIONS

Boil the potatoes until fork-tender, approximately 15 minutes. Allow them to cool, then cut them in half lengthwise. Scoop out the middle of the potatoes with a melon baller or spoon. Place the scooped potatoes into a food processor. In the food processor, blend the scooped potatoes, chickpeas, two tablespoons of aquafaba, mustard, black salt and pepper. Process until smooth, adding additional aquafaba, if needed. Transfer to a small mixing bowl. In the small mixing bowl, stir in onion and pickle relish. Taste and adjust seasonings to your preference. Spoon mixture into potato halves. Sprinkle with paprika, if desired. Use leftover filling as a dip or in wraps.

Scrape the pan while adding another 1/4 cup of water, then cook until the onion begins to stick again. Repeat this process until the onion is golden brown and sweet. This will take approximately 15 minutes. Add the potatoes and poblano pepper and sprinkle with the soy sauce, the dried oregano, the sweet paprika or the chili powder. Cook, stirring carefully with a spatula until the potatoes are well browned. Top with tomatoes and onions, if desired. * Recipe and photo by Betsy Bruns. ** Recipe and photo by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.

BREAKFAST POTATOES** These potatoes are the perfect comfort food. Serve them for Easter brunch in lieu of an egg omelet or quiche. Try them over grits or pair with fruit. INGREDIENTS

Makes 4 Servings

ANGELED “EGGS”* These “eggs” visually resemble the devilish kind but without the saturated fat and cholesterol. Black salt is a key ingredient. Its sulfur flavor gives the potatoes an eggy taste. INGREDIENTS

12 golden potatoes – approximately egg-sized 1 15 oz. can, or 1.5 cups of chickpeas, rinsed and drained, reserving the bean juice (aquafaba) ½ small onion, chopped

2 washed red or white potatoes ½ cup of water or more 1 onion, thinly sliced 4 teaspoons soy sauce ½ teaspoon sweet paprika or chili powder ½ teaspoon dried oregano 1 poblano pepper, cut into thin strips 6 cut cherry tomatoes 2 green onions, sliced DIRECTIONS

Cut the potatoes into half-inch cubes and steam until just tender, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Heat 1/4 cup of water in a large nonstick skillet and add the onion. Cook, stirring frequently until the water has evaporated and the onion begins to stick to the pan. WWW.CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

COSMIC DAILY WEATHER April 2020 by Bernadette Evans

Overview This month, Jupiter and Pluto start to get cozy together. They’ll be dancing closely, separating, then dancing close again until the end of 2020. When the planet of expansion (Jupiter) and transformation (Pluto) get together you may discover you’re working hard to accomplish the goals you have in mind. You’re not doing things the same way as you did in the past, you’ve changed. So, naturally, the way you go about things has changed as well. Your strength, stamina and determination will help you accomplish your goals. Venus and Mars are also in a close trine the whole month. When these two come together you can expect a little more fun and frolic in your relationships. You’re more playful, sociable and charming. If you’re single, there’s a chance of meeting someone or having a flirtation. If you’re attached, you and your partner are enjoying each other’s company. They’re in Air signs so interesting conversations may be what really gets your motor running. Experimentation and freedom could be what you crave at the moment. You want to play and have fun but also require some space, you don’t want to be fenced in. Ideas are percolating, you may also have a lot of irons in the fire. So, there’s a balance of work and fun this month. Balance is healthy. The Moon takes about 28 days to complete its orbit through the 12 signs, staying approximately two and a half days in each sign. When we say the Moon is Void of Course (VoC), it means the Moon makes no more major aspects to other planets before it leaves the sign its in. At these times, it can be difficult to get focused and accomplish a task. You may want to relax, meditate or do something where your focus is turned inward. Don’t try and get a new project off the ground when the Moon is Void. If you want to find out more about the Void of Course Moon, check out moontracks.com. The times below are listed in Central Daylight Time.

Wednesday, April 1 Sensitivity, communication and intuition are highlighted when the Moon trines Mercury and Neptune. You’re able to easily express your thoughts and dreams. Others are apt to sit up and listen when you have something to say. You could be feeling very emotional today. That’s okay, be aware that your moods may fluctuate. If you can, channel them into a pastime or an artistic expression. Moon is in Cancer.

Thursday, April 2 Your strength and determination are evident when the Moon opposes Mars. You have a goal in mind and head straight for it. There’s a possibility of getting into an argument if someone doesn’t quite see things your way. Strength and flexibility can co-exist. Moon VoC at 11:49 a.m. until 1:26 p.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Friday, April 3 Venus enters the sign of Gemini at 12:11 p.m. When Venus is in Gemini, you could feel the need for stimulating conversations from a variety of people. Keeping things interesting and light when socializing with others may be what you’re in the mood for. You’re curious about a variety of subjects and can be easily distracted by the next new idea or conversation. The Mercury-Neptune conjunction emphasizes listening to your intuition and heeding the call. Once you know what direction you’re

headed in, you can put in the work to make your dreams a reality. It’s easy to get lost in the land of fantasy but nothing will materialize if you don’t act. Moon VoC at 2:29 p.m.

Saturday, April 4

communicating your needs to others may feel impossible. If you need to take a time out away from others, do so. Things will look brighter with time and some space. Moon VoC at 7:50 a.m. until 3:17 p.m. when it enters the sign of Scorpio.

When Jupiter conjuncts Pluto, you could be looking for ways to grow and transform yourself. How do you see the world? What is your place in it? By working on yourself you add to the betterment of the planet. It not only brings the internal rewards that propel you forward but can also get you noticed and rewarded on the physical plane as well. Moon enters the sign of Virgo at 4:18 p.m.

Thursday, April 9

Sunday, April 5

Friday, April 10

When the Moon is in Virgo, you may feel like taking charge of a project or a situation. You have good intentions but other people may not see it that way. Let go of the need to run the show and wanting everything to be perfect. You’ll have more fun and so will everyone else. Otherwise, you could feel like you’re on the outside looking in and wanting to be included, loved and appreciated. Appreciation for your hard work is really what you need.

Monday, April 6 You are focused on your work when the Moon trines Pluto and Jupiter. The intensity you possess is admirable and helps you to complete the job. Remember to take some time for yourself later today to recharge your batteries. Do whatever it is that you need to do. Looking after yourself should also be a priority. Moon VoC at 8:29 a.m. until 4:16 p.m. when it enters the sign of Libra.

Tuesday, April 7 You’re working on yourself and your relationships during this Full Moon. There is a T-square between Pluto and Jupiter and the Sun and Moon. Who are you when you’re not working? As you change and grow what happens inside of you and in your relationships? Do they grow as well? At the same time, Mars and Uranus are forming a square. What action do you need to take? You’re aware that you need to take an action, but what that action is, hasn’t come to light yet. It could be that you’re looking for more freedom in your relationships. You may feel the need to walk away from a situation or a person. You could feel disappointed in how things have turned out and you want more. It may be easier said than done but follow your intuition and have faith that the Universe has your back. Full Moon in Libra at 9:35 p.m.

Wednesday, April 8 It may feel like your emotions are out of balance when the Moon squares Saturn. You could be swinging from one emotion to another and

When the Moon is in Scorpio you may want to have a heart to heart talk with a supportive friend or a counselor. Getting your feelings out may help you to see them in a new light and possibly provide the answers you seek. Or, it could just give you some relief to get your thoughts and feelings out into the open.

Your intuition is spot on when the Moon trines Mercury, enhancing your ability to express yourself clearly. It’s like you have x-ray vision and can see situations and people naturally. Mercury slips into the sign of Aries at 11:48 p.m. for approximately the next two and a half weeks. During this time, you may be able to think on your feet. There’s also the potential of putting your foot in your mouth, so try to take a breath before you speak. Moon VoC at 2:35 p.m. until 3:35 p.m. when it enters the sign of Sagittarius.

Saturday, April 11 The Mercury-Saturn sextile could help you focus your thoughts and get your work finished. Your drive, mental acuity and stamina will help you for the next day or two. It’s not magic, and it may not be glamorous but just sitting down and doing the work will pay off in the long run. You’ll be happy you put in the effort!

Sunday, April 12 Happy Easter to those who celebrate the holiday! The Moon-Sun trine helps you to feel confident and relaxed. Any get-togethers you attend should go smoothly. There is a feeling of harmony and comradery in the air. You could also have a boost of energy you’re not sure what to do about… exercise or play a game; just have fun today! Moon VoC at 6:46 a.m. until 7:05 p.m. when it enters the sign of Capricorn.

Monday, April 13 The focus is on relationships when the Moon quincunx Venus. You may feel there is an imbalance between what you give in your relationships and what you receive. Compromises and adjustments may be made to smooth things over. You may be looking for love or affection somewhere else. Examine past relationships and their outcomes to see what you might do differently this time.

Tuesday, April 14 When the Sun squares Pluto, the message is about taking control of your life. It’s possible you’re surrounded by people who are telling you what to do and you’ve had enough, culminating in a blow-out. Re-evaluate your part in the drama, if there was one, and decide what direction you want to take. An intense experience could bring up old wounds. You get to decide how you respond. Is it the same as before or are you doing things differently?

Wednesday, April 15 Optimism and enthusiasm could be in abundance today when the Sun squares Jupiter. You may be excited about a new project and all the possibilities it brings. Take care and don’t over-extend yourself by promising the moon and the stars; be realistic about what you can accomplish. There is a chance of arguing with someone today. Don’t run away. Listen to the other person and see the situation through their eyes. Compassion and empathy can win them over. Moon enters Aquarius at 2:37 a.m.

Thursday, April 16 You could find yourself reacting strongly when the Moon conjuncts Mars. Your inner drive to accomplish your goals spurs you onward. When your belief in something is strong, you have the inner fortitude to persevere. There is the potential for some heated discussions. I’m not saying walk away, but you get to decide if you want to expend any energy on fighting with someone. You could also re-evaluate and look at the other person’s point of view. It takes strength to walk away from a fight as well as to admit you may be wrong. Use your energy wisely.

Friday, April 17 Spending some quality time with yourself may be just what is needed when the Moon is in Pisces. It could be time to retreat from the busyness of the world if only for an hour. Engaging in selfexploration or going for a walk in nature could be soothing right about now. Writing about your experience, drawing or singing, these are all wonderful ways to express your feelings. Moon VoC at 9:34 a.m. until 1:29 p.m. when it enters the sign of Pisces.

Saturday, April 18 When Mercury sextiles Venus, there’s the potential for a lucrative business opportunity to take root. New people may appear that are eager to work with you. Stay calm, feet firmly planted on the ground and go for it, this is going to be fun. Add the Mercury sextile Mars into the mix and you have some added bravado and charisma. You could probably sweet talk anyone into anything today! WWW.CONSCIOUSCOMMUNITYMAGAZINE.COM

Just remember to be honest in your dealings, whether it’s personal or business-related.

Sunday, April 19 Happy Birthday, dear Taurus! It’s your time to shine! With the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Pisces, the cosmos is saying that it’s time for play, romance and nurturing yourself. There is a parade of possibilities before you, so just pick one and go for it! It’s the perfect day to call up a friend and invite them out to do something fun. The days are nicer when shared with a good friend. The Sun enters the sign of Taurus at 9:45 a.m. Moon VoC at 6:31 p.m.

Monday, April 27

Happy Earth Day! I love that Earth Day is the same day as the Taurus New Moon! Taurus is an Earth sign and likes to take things nice and slow, enjoy the good things that life has to offer, including going for a walk outside. The New Moon in Taurus is about finding some stability by doing what you love. What are you ready to put your heart and soul into? Whatever it is, grab it and commit to see it through. The Sun-MoonUranus are in a tight conjunction which could mean something or someone may suddenly appear or disappear from your life. Moon VoC at 7:32 a.m. until 2:36 p.m. when it enters the sign of Taurus. New Moon at 9:26 p.m.

Mercury visits the sign of Taurus at 2:53 p.m. for approximately the next two weeks. You could find that you’re digesting information slower than usual, taking your time to understand something before speaking. You may also be slow to change your mind, possibly stubborn, so try to be flexible. The Moon conjuncts the North Node in Cancer, giving you the green light for some R & R. One way of doing this is by connecting with nature. Another way is to enjoy some alone time. When you give yourself the space to just be and nurture yourself, it recharges your batteries, energizing you. Maybe passion for a project that was shelved gets reignited. Who knows what can happen when you’re feeling more refreshed? Moon VoC at 12:00 p.m. until 12:28 p.m. when it enters the sign of Cancer.

When the Moon conjuncts Chiron, you may feel old wounds surface. Maybe in the past when you took charge and spoke up, you were shamed or people didn’t like what you had to say, and jealousy could have reared its head. Do you censor what you say now for fear of what others might say? Follow your gut and speak up when you need to. Moon enters the sign of Aries at 2:00 a.m.

There’s the possibility you’re feeling overburdened with work and responsibilities in general when the Sun squares Saturn. | CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY MAGAZINE APRIL 2020

The Moon in Taurus can encourage saving and spending. Try to find the balance between saving for a rainy day and spending like there’s no tomorrow. With a plan, some focus and determination along with an idea of what you’d like to save for, you can enjoy today and look forward to tomorrow.

Your dreams and intuition are heightened when the Moon sextiles Neptune. Your creative juices are flowing; you may want to channel them through writing or drawing. You could be feeling extremely romantic today and want to snuggle up beside your partner. Be careful of losing yourself in a relationship because you want to merge with your partner. Enjoy being with someone while maintaining healthy boundaries. Moon VoC at 7:43 p.m.

Saturday, April 25 You may be into research mode when Mercury squares Pluto, delving into a new area of interest and hopefully without obsessing about it. Conversations may be about deep subjects and quite intense. Remember to listen to the other person’s point of view, don’t try to control the conversation. What would be the fun in that? Life is more interesting when everyone gets to express their own opinion. Pluto retrogrades at 1:54 p.m. Moon enters the sign of Gemini at 2:20 a.m.

Sunday, April 26 Stepping out to try something new and exciting could be what the Universe has in store for you when the Sun conjuncts Uranus. It could be something totally out of character for you, but it’s nice to shake things up once in a while and surprise yourself and others! You may experience some brilliant flashes of insight. Pay attention to the messages you receive; the Universe is in your corner.

Tuesday, April 28 Your mind is sharp and focused on getting the job finished when Mercury squares Saturn. There’s the chance that someone will notice all your hard work and want to form a partnership. You never know who is paying attention to you and what opportunities are just around the corner. Pay close attention to what is being said and what you say as well as any agreement that you might strike up. The devil is in the details. Mercury-Saturn can also stir up feelings of depression and loneliness. Reach out and call a friend or family member for support.

Wednesday, April 29 You could be trying to find the right balance between your home life and your career when the Moon opposes Pluto. Is one area getting more attention than the other? Emotions may be running high when the Moon opposes Pluto. You may not be seeing a situation clearly and feel someone is getting away with something. Don’t worry about it, the Universe takes care of everything. Obsessing about a person or a situation won’t solve anything; it will just cause you grief. Moon VoC at 2:29 p.m. until 8:06 p.m. when it enters the sign of Leo.

Thursday, April 30 Sparks could be flying as thoughts and new ideas are whizzing through the atmosphere. Did you see that one go by? It’s exciting when ideas come to you so easily and effortlessly without pulling a muscle or breaking a sweat. Enjoy any breakthroughs you experience and remember to thank the Universe for sending them your way. The Mindful Kitchen:

Lora Cheadle (New World Library, $15.95, Paperback)

Heather Thomas (Leaping Hare Press, $29.99, Hardcover)

Vegetarian Cooking to Relate to Nature, by

Drop Your Cover and Reveal Your Smart, Sexy & Spiritual Self, by

Lora Cheadle believes we all have multiple personas. She also believes that even though we may love the roles we play, they sometimes wear us down and can be irritating. Instead of performing roles, she focuses on cultivating self-love through being true to oneself. Cheadle helps readers learn how laughter, play and dance can help us peel back the layers and personalities we have created for ourselves and find the ever-present self-worth we have inside of us—self-worth and self-love that cannot be undone.

Both meditative and instructional, this book contains over 100 earth-friendly, plantbased recipes and philosophical notes put together by Heather Thomas. Thomas focuses on bringing attention to the ritual of preparing food while inviting readers to reconnect with nature through the process. She encourages readers to be more mindful of what and how they eat.

Wake Up to What Matters:

A Guide to Tibetan Buddhism for the Next Generation, by Avikrita Vajra Sakya (Shambhala, $16.95, Paperback)

For some people, Buddhism can seem intense. We live in such a fast-paced, technology-driven world—why would we want to cut ourselves off from that? Avikrita Vajra Sakya writes this book for millennials questioning whether or not they want to follow a spiritual path. It is a modern guide to Tibetan Buddhism with both wisdom and wit in which he points out how and why the practice is still relevant today.

When God Had a Wife: The Fall and Rise of the Sacred Feminine in the JudeoChristian Tradition, by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince (Bear & Company, $16, Paperback) Over time, the history of religion has grown to suppress the divine feminine energy. Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince provide historical research about the legacy of the Jewish goddesses and share that, despite what most people believe, the ancient Israelites worshipped both male and female deities. When history was rewritten by men, the spiritual roles of women were downgraded. This happened again with Jesus and Mary Magdalene, as well as with Simon Magus and Helen. Yet, the spiritual practices and legacies of the feminine live on! Picknett and Prince reveal how the collective has needed the return of this feminine energy as they pinpoint how history has been affected by its suppression. 26
