WELCOME A little over 18 months ago, the awards coordination team comprised of Rochelle Muscat, Managing Director - Party Stylists Australia, Erin McGinley, Director – Party Stylists Australia and Esther Kefaloukos, Owner and Director – Confetti Fair came together under a shared vision, to recognise the incredible talent and creatives of the Australian party industry. In the last decade, we have collectively had the pleasure to participate in an industry that has shown resilience, tenacity, inspiration, and determination in the face of many challenges. Each year we welcome new faces who have successfully turned their side hustles into full-time careers and watched with pride as the best and brightest showcase their talents. One thing we believe distinguishes our industry from many others is our ability to collaborate and support each other’s business aspirations and goals. As a community of creatives, we are able to celebrate one another’s successes and support each other through the challenges. We are passionate and dedicated to providing the best products and services to our customers. For many, there is a never-ending quest for inspiration and innovation to bring new and exciting ideas to market – and all with the goal of ensuring that everyone planning a celebration has the most amazing party ever! There can be no doubt that despite the setbacks we have faced in a global pandemic, now is the right time to recognise and reward our vibrant community of party professionals, because we have worked tirelessly for our valued clients. We have sacrificed many late nights and weekend family time to deliver joy and happiness to others. ABOUT THE AWARDS A desire to see the party industry recognised! For more than a decade there has been a new industry bubbling across the globe - the exciting world of professional party styling. This industry takes the grand scope of big budget events across to suburban backyards and small party venues. Australia has seen growth across this sector brought about by the increased supply and variety of themed partyware, balloon and prop hire specialists, creators of custom decorations and favours, as well as florists and party entertainers. More recently we have seen cake decorators, cookie makers, and specialist bakers grow their talents to create extraordinary feats of design with skills that make our eyes pop and our hands reach out to take as many pieces as we are allowed. Or, if you’re a one-year-old, to take this creative masterpiece and smash it into a million yummy crumbs! Party Styling has also emerged as a new career path for many. This has seen the humble DIY party elevated to the stuff of fantasy, produced with expert precision, and with an unwavering eye for detail. There can be no doubt that it is past time to celebrate the exceptional talent of small businesses in this industry. The awards aim to recognise leaders and standouts in their field for innovation, collaboration, and customer service. Our aim is to support and give back by rewarding their efforts and commitment to delivering excellence. An important consideration for the Awards was that they showcase the most outstanding businesses in their area of expertise. This is why we chose to work with a peer-reviewed judging process based on meeting standardised criteria. Winners are awarded on merit rather than a public voting system, thus allowing a fairer and more balanced approach to recognising those who serve our industry with grace and commitment, no matter how many clients or followers they have. The Awards seek to acknowledge businesses that provide invaluable support to a thriving and vibrant business community, and to encourage every party entrepreneur to continue pushing and chasing their dreams. After all, an industry is only as strong as the businesses that are committed to seeing it succeed. We have no doubt that these Awards will enable the Australian party industry to create many more reasons to celebrate in the years ahead.

Rochelle is the Managing Director of Party Stylists Australia

Erin is the Director of Operations and Technology of Party Stylists Australia.

and owner of Pop the Balloon! Children’s Parties & Events.

For over half a decade, Rochelle has built a thriving children’s party styling and entertainment business on the NSW, Central Coast. She also founded Party Stylists Australia which she started to help connect and network with other small party businesses right across the country. Prior to joining the party industry, Rochelle spent over 20 years in the banking and finance industry supporting industry leaders and managing large-scale conferences and events. Rochelle is also a creative who loves to dance and entertain. She spent many of her formative years in a dance studio teaching students to dance and choreographing routines for stage and competitions.

Erin has been running small businesses in the events and party industry since late 2014. With experience spanning the e-commerce world, prop hire, and various aspects of the wedding industry including video, event management, and styling she has successfully been published in several magazines for conceptual styling ideas in collaboration with one of Australia’s top floral artists. With a Communications Degree (Hons) focused primarily on writing, she brings her unique approach to problem- solving and idea generation to Party Stylists Australia. With skills in website building, coaching, and the odd dad joke, Erin likes to lighten the sometimes serious mood that can overshadow running any small business.

ESTHER KEFALOUKOS

Esther is the Owner and Director of Confetti Fair.

Maria is the Digital and Creative Director of Confetti Fair.

Boss and admin super star, Esther was drawn to Confetti Fair by her love of everything party planning which really spoke to her strong planning and organising gene. Keeping herself busy makes her happy, which she does planning future Confetti Fair activities and generating the spark that becomes our renowned shoots and magazines. Alongside driving the strategy and ideas for Confetti Fair, Esther also manages a demanding senior role in online communications, events and media in investor relations. A jack of many trades, she previously also ran her own styling business, and regularly works in events and parties, catering, styling or planning for her own small clientele.

Confetti Fair’s creative and digital heartbeat and a marketer by trade who lives and breathes all things digital. A digital marketing dinosaur with 15 years of experience, she also has a print and magazine publishing background. A self-taught designer and illustrator, publishing a magazine has always been a life long dream that became a reality with Confetti Fair. Maria has experience in every facet of digital marketing, from social, paid media, SEO, and even technical implementations. Her particular area of expertise is in email marketing. She has developed digital strategies for businesses large and small, across events, tourism, e-coupon, e-commerce, and hospitality.

KIRSTY CHAPMAN-SMITH, DISCOUNT PARTY SUPPLIES CEO AND FOUNDER Kirsty began her online journey in 2004, originally selling second-hand children’s toys and clothing on eBay. However, she soon discovered that there was an opportunity to retail brand new items on the platform and introduced a range of party items. As the success of these party lines grew, Kirsty saw the opportunity to launch her own website and Discount Party Supplies was born. Over the last 13 years, with Kirsty at the helm, Discount Party Supplies has transformed from a humble home-based business into a thriving company that delivers 200,000 orders per year and employs 50 dedicated party people. Discount Party Supplies has been recognised by Fast Movers SA for the last two years running, as one of South Australia’s top fastest moving businesses. Kirsty has been featured in numerous media segments and articles and is regularly involved in industry events. She was the co-chair of the Online Retailers Adelaide group and enjoys collaborating with other online retailers. Kirsty’s catch cry at work is, “Let’s go make someone’s day!” It is with this enthusiasm she is looking forward to judging the talented finalists in the inaugural Australia Party Stylist of the Year awards. JILLIAN LESLIE, CATCH MY PARTY FOUNDER AND CREATOR Jillian is the founder and creator of Catch My Party, the largest party ideas site on the web, which she started with her husband, David, in 2009. Jillian is a party enthusiast, party and food stylist, and entrepreneur! The idea for Catch My Party was launched by Jillian and David because they love everything to do with entertaining, and wanted to create a place to inspire others to throw unforgettable parties, celebrate the amazing creativity around the world, and have some fun! Before starting Catch My Party, Jillian got her MBA from Stanford University, and was also a writer for TV and movies in Hollywood. In addition to Catch My Party, Jillian has a podcast called The Blogger Genius Podcast, and has another business she started with David to help bloggers grow their social media followers and email subscribers called MiloTree.

TANYA CASTELLINO, LIFE’S LITTLE CELEBRATIONS DIRECTOR Tanya is the founder of Life’s Little Celebrations, which has promoted and supported kids event vendors for the last 10 years! She also launched the Celebrate Conference for kid’s event vendors in Australia, bringing together our industry along with amazing speakers. She has also founded the Celebrate Society membership, providing support, promotion and networking for vendors in our industry! She is the founder of ‘Celebrating Little Ones’ magazine along with the well known Life’s Little Celebrations blog and directory where she showcases members of ‘The Celebrate Society’. She has grown her Instagram following to 115K+ followers and developed an amazing industry community. Her business has been featured in publications such as Donna Hay Magazine and Practical Parenting Magazine.

CAROLINE HUTCHISON, EVENTS FANTASTIC GENERAL MANAGER Caroline is an accomplished corporate event manager who has built a successful career within the events industry. She is currently leading the vibrant and creative team as the General Manager of Events Fantastic Australia, Backdrops Fantastic, Modular Backdrops Australia, and Light Up Letters. Caroline brings with her over twelve years’ experience, having started her career in the Corporate Event world organising all aspects of conferences, awards, and company events. Caroline believes in giving back to the community and industry through volunteering, sponsorship, and raising the bar of excellence within the industry. Caroline is the Vice President of Women In Tourism, and is actively involved in and a member of Meetings & Events Australia, Business Chicks, Gold Coast Tourism, and Burleigh Business Women.

EMILY JABOUR, THE PARTY BEBE DIRECTOR Emily is the founder of the lifestyle blog, The Party Bebe. She is an event stylist, publicist, and self confessed sweet tooth. On the blog, Emily shares all the sweet & happy things in life – from party and entertaining ideas, inspiring desserts, styling inspiration, and what is on in Melbourne. Emily has a background in Lifestyle PR & Events and has styled, hosted, and publicised hundreds of events ranging from media launches and fashion events to product launches and charity luncheons. Emily and her husband Peter have two children and they live in Melbourne.

KYLA DANIELS, CAKES BY KYLA FOUNDER AND BAKER For over a decade, Kyla has been bringing her customer’s ideas to life. Her creativity and artistic talent has seen her amass a huge social media following in excess of 65,000 followers who have watched her journey from a home kitchen to a much loved shop front where she works 6 days a week. Her talents also caught the eye of Julie Goodwin, Australia’s first ever MasterChef winner. She asked Kyla to teach at her cooking school 6 years ago – she has been there ever since. Recently Kyla has built a reputation for cupcakes, and this has seen line-ups down the street on many occasions, and has led to her being interviewed on Channel 10 News and A Current Affair, as well as being featured in The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, New Idea and Take 5 Magazine, twice! Having herself won many awards, Kyla is excited to bring her wealth of knowledge and experience as a guest judge to the inaugural Australian Party Stylist of the Year industry awards and looks forward to seeing all that is on offer.

SHELLEY SYKES, FAVOR LANE PARTY FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR With a background in sales and a passion for stylish celebrations, Shelley launched Favor Lane online party boutique in April 2012. Shelley commits to offering every customer a fun and satisfying shopping experience and after sale advice or support. Constantly dedicated to sourcing the newest, trending, and unique party and wedding décor from Australia and across the globe. This has enabled her to support independent craftspeople and manufacturers, whilst providing exceptional products and brands to her customers. I’m Bridget, the owner of Balloons by Bridget. I’m a wife and mum to three beautiful girls. This crazy adventure started two years ago just before my oldest turned one. I absolutely live for OTT birthday parties/events and some would say I’m an ‘extra mum’. So, when it was my baby’s turn, I wanted to make it so much fun. I did all my own decorating and had a crack at my first balloon garland, and that’s where Balloons by Bridget begun. I have now had the pleasure of being a part of so many special events, my rumpus room has become a balloon room, my garage is overflowing with props, and secretly my husband is loving all the new prop building tasks.

Desiree (Des) Preston is the Owner and Creator at Des Bakes & Decorates. Beginning in November 2020 after finally deciding it was “now or never” - having become a stayat-home-Mum to two beautiful girls, and it was time to get back to work after 3.5 years. Des has always had a passion for creating cakes and treats for family and friends since she was a teenager. Her other love is in event planning and styling from experience she gained over 15 years in the events industry, organising small to large scale local and international events - including her own wedding, and yes, she even made her own wedding cake!

FINALISTS LUXE EVENTS PERTH Gordanna Petrovski is the director of Luxe Events Perth, a full-service events company. She has always had a creative flair so when her niece got married in 2016 she volunteered to help with the decorations and flowers. Many noticed, told their friends and family and before long she was taking a booking every weekend. Realising how much joy it brought her to create events, Gordanna left her job in retail to invest all her time and energy into creating striking and unique occasions. She now runs at least four events a week with a team of six staff. Gordanna believes her exponential growth is down to treating every client like family, taking the time to listen and learn about their vision, having an eye for detail and ensuring every event has the ‘wow factor’.

Nilmini Munaweera is the founder of Party Styling by Nil. She decorates and styles birthdays, baby showers, graduations, and engagements. Nilmini‘s custom backdrops, décor, props, and light up numbers are unique to each client based on their requirements and cannot be found in the ready-made market. Previous experience, in balloon company Norway, helped change her entire career to decorating and styling. In 2019, stepping away from being a full-time mum she established her own business. Coming from an artistic family Nil has been exposed to creative thinking from her childhood. SIENNA’S SWEET TREATS Hi, my name is Rachel and I’m the owner of Sienna’s Sweet Treats located in Perth. We create custom sugar cookies, donuts and cookie pops for all events. Most recently we launched our cookie wall at the Swan Valley Winter Wedding Expo at Vines Resort, which can be hired to display our delicious new range of Dough My God Cookies. We pride ourselves on our creations and absolutely love what we do. Prior to starting my business, I worked in Employment Services. However, after the long-awaited birth of my daughter Sienna, I didn’t want to go back to an office job and quite honestly, I hated the thought of putting her in day care and not being able to see her 24/7. So here, I started baking cookies mainly for friends (and myself to eat!) word soon got around and Sienna’s Sweet Treats quickly became a very busy full-time job and the rest is history! I haven’t looked back!
