A Cause For Celebration

Ten years of business and giving back! Favor Lane recently celebrated a decade of success while supporting an amazing cause. Here’s to another 10 years of making a difference!

In 2022, Favor Lane reached their 10 year milestone. Founder Shelley tells us that she is incredibly proud and honoured to be celebrating such a huge business milestone.

From day one, Shelley’s goal has been to provide high quality party and event supplies and she has established a reputation for being a leader in the industry of online party products both locally and across Australia.

Over the years Shelley has developed strong relationships with her customers, including those within the event industry. Knowing first hand that running a small business is by no means an easy feat she has endeavoured to support fellow small business owners in any way that she can. She has had the honour of collaborating with so many talented industry vendors and been fortunate to have Favor Lane products showcased in countless blog features, editorials and magazines.

Shelley is also a huge supporter of non-profit initiatives particularly where medical research and patient wellbeing is concerned.

In 2018 Shelley and her chosen group of industry vendors gifted the two Telethon Stars with an ultimate dream party to share with 15 guests. This being a highlight of her Favor Lane journey. In her opinion, life is a gift and that in itself is worth celebrating.

Whilst a ten year milestone needed to be celebrated, it was imperative to Shelley that she have the opportunity to express gratitude to her most loyal customers. Their ongoing support has been an integral part of the growth of her business therefore it was important that she thank them in person.

When it came to celebrating 10 Years of Favor Lane, yes Shelley wanted a party, however she also wanted to use the opportunity to offer support, raise awareness and much needed funds for research. Being a lover of all things pink, as well as losing loved ones to cancer, the decision was made to hold a fundraising event in the month of October (breast cancer awareness month), with all proceeds being donated to The National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event gave Shelley the oppurtunity to thank her customers as well as share a bit about her journey. In attendance were also industry peers; Ali Moala of Stylish Soirées Perth, Simone Wenman of Creative Themes Perth and Esther Kefaloukos of Confetti Fair, to join her on the couch. MC Teresa Newton guided the informal chat ensured the attendees had ample opportunity to ask questions and a chance to win a couple of spot prizes.

With the business side of things out of the way, it was time to focus on the importance of raising some funds for cancer research but firstly to raise awareness. Shelley invited two very brave women, Liz De Cinque (Shelley’s sister in law) and Ellen Ender (Simone’s mother) to share their breast cancer story with the 48 women in the room. From detection to diagnosis, treatment to prognosis, we heard about the impact this had on them both physically and emotionally. Their message about early detection being of utmost importance.

Rawr- Some 1st Birthday Fun

ROAR! Little Benn recently turned one in epic prehistoric style with a luxe dinosaur party theme. From the dinosaur-themed food to the fossil themed party games, it was a day filled with adventure and joy. Submitted by Epic Installs & ColourPop Studio.

Benn’s First Rawrsome Birthday was an epic celebration that transported everyone back to the prehistoric era!

The theme was luxe dinosaur party, and it was packed with bright pops of colour that made everything look magical and inviting.

The kids had a blast with dinosaur-themed food, games with a real-life Dino hunter, and a station where they could dazzle up their faces with glittery dinosaurs.

One of the highlights of the party was the fossil sand pit, where the little ones had a blast digging for bones and pretending to be their favourite dinos.

And the dinosaur friends from Dino Land were a hit! The kids loved taking photos with them and learning more about the prehistoric creatures.

The party was held at the beautiful Creative Avenue venue, which was decorated with colourful balloons and vibrant decorations.

It was a day filled with joy and excitement, and everyone had an absolute blast. Benn is one lucky little guy to have had such a memorable birthday bash! H

When your Mum is a talented artist with a love of unique themes you’re guaranteed to have a cute and beautiful second birthday party. This consciously crafted Cockatwo themed soiree was truly a memorable day full of fun and joy. By Elk Prints.

Aurelia loves birds so I knew quite early on that we would have some kind of bird theme for her second birthday. The cockatoo was one of the birds she recognised and would try to call by it’s name and as it also made a playful pun on the number two we decided to make the party specifically a “Cockatwo” theme.

As an illustrator and designer I created the custom invitations and welcome sign to set the mood of the party for guests. Once the main artwork for the stationery was created I set about creating a whole flock of little watercolour cockatoos to use as cupcake toppers to decorate the vanilla cupcakes and lemon meringue pies. As I also love baking I created and painted cockatoo gingerbread cookies using the edible paints from Sweet Sticks.

As Aurelia also loves Bluey I was inspired to make the infamous Duck Cake but in the form of a cockatoo for the main birthday cake. Nicole from Sugar Pop Bakery made the cutest little cockatoo cake pops for us.

When creating a vision for a party I love thinking of little details that fit the theme - like serving seedy crackers to go with the cheese as they make me think of birdseed.

We held the party on the balcony of our home amongst the trees - a perfect natural setting for the party and styled the table simply with rustic timber boards and dashes of white and gold to represent the colours of the cockatoo.

For games we had bird puzzles, cockatoo puppets and a homemade Piñata in the shape of a cockatoo that Aurelia’s older brother helped to both make and smash at the parties end! H

There is a growing trend for couples choosing to elope and celebrate their love in a more intimate and special way.

The intimacy of an elopement not only offers romance but the bonus of less stress, pressure, costs, and waste. Elopements can be easier to organise and allow the couple to celebrate their marriage on their terms. It can be a much more relaxed affair without all the formalities. It’s important to do what works for you!

Garden ceremonies are picturesque especially at a private venue like Hillandale gardens located at Yetholme. This gorgeous backdrop is absolutely beautiful! A secluded 2.5ha garden in an idyllic country setting nestled amongst the hills. The garden has a scenic dam, a fern lined spring creek, woodlands and a rambling garden filled with flowers and mature trees. H

This Is How We Roll

Rolling into 51 and celebrating in style! This hot pink roller disco was a night of non-stop fun and unforgettable memories. By Sugarcrumb Events.

When my long term client came to me with the idea of doing a rollerskating party for her 51st birthday, to say I was super excited is an understatement!

The logistics of creating this event proved too be harder that it sounded. With no permanent roller rink within the local area, I set about to do what seemed impossible – build our own custom roller rink experience, have an epic party and pack it all down in less than 24 hours!

I’m happy to say – mission accomplished! We created the most epic rollerskating party ever!

Months of sourcing, planning and designing this event made it truly unique and one of kind – the only type of event I do! There is nothing cookie cutter at Sugarcumb Events!

From a complete roller rink install, custom classic roller rink ‘diner’, food truck and video game arcade – not to mention the stunning balloon ceiling installation –this party was truly a massive feat and a night my awesome client and her guests will never forget!

The colour palette was Valentino pink (inspired by the amazing 2022 Valentino runway show) and black– the perfect combo for this event. After searching for weeks for the right location, I visited The Venue at Alexandria and it was the perfect space to bring our vision to life.

The industrial feel of The Foyer lent itself to the vibe we were going for and the black backdrop allowed the pink to pop. It even had the perfect access for the food truck we wanted and the giant boom box design prop.

Upon arrival guests were greeted with a stunning ceiling streamer installation and neon lighting and were instantly transported! After a quick photo at the neon photo wall, they grabbed their skates from the skates desk and hit the rink! And it was full all night!

Once guests had worked up an appetite, they hit up the food truck for some amazing food, grabbed the signature ‘This Is How Roll’ cocktail and hung out in the diner booths. After a night of skating, dancing, and gaming in the arcade, the guests then gathered around what is probably one of my favourite cakes ever.

I had a vision of a gorgeous three-tiered iced and embellished cake- with a rollerskate smashed right into it. The insanely talented Jacki from Blissfully Sweet nailed it as always and it was the perfect cake for such an epic theme.

On their way out, guests grabbed custom roller skate bath bombs favours to enjoy a well earned soak the next day!

So proud of this event and grateful to my amazing client and of course the amazing vendors that helped me bring my vision to life! H

When the brief for a 40th is ‘give me a nightclub’ you know its going to be a night of disco balls, dancing and retro delights! By Confetti Fair

For her latest milestone birthday, Esther initially didn’t want to make a big deal of reaching the big 4-0. However, she knew many people would be expecting a lot from her for this occasion so instead, she decided to go extra!

The first element of the theme was the request to have the party set up like a nightclub. This called for a large warehouse space, plenty of glow furniture, professional lightning equipment, a fully functioning bar and a custom DJ booth decorated with the neon light slogan Dance All Night.

To add to the fun party vibes, a jewel toned tropical colour scheme was imbued into the event, finished off with glam gold and silver. The brightly coloured florals by Anthistoria embodied the vibe perfectly.

Of course, no nightclub is complete without disco balls, and with an abundance of them strewn across the space we really added a retro discoteque vibe to the room.

Several installations added to the atmosphere of the room. There was the amazing balloon and streamer ceiling install by Pretty Bangin’ Balloons; a photo moment featuring the ‘S40’ logo created for the event and embellished with balloons and discoballs; an epic hot pink neon light adorned dessert wall; and finally the stunning dessert display featuring three amazing retro styled cakes by Sassy Sprinkles Cakery. There was also a DIY piece featuring a hot pink trolley filled with disco balls, and a plant stand that double as a display for Cooke Queen Kitcshn signature cupcakes.

It was a night of fun and dancing in the most awesome of surrounds! H

Get creative with your displays! Take some everyday objects, add some splashes of colour with a lick of spray paint and top with florals, balloons, disco balls and more for a unique look.

Shelf furniture can be cheaply acquired, customised and resold making them a sustainable decor idea. They also make excellent party backdrops, stands or displays. Adorn them with desserts, lights or balloons for any theme you desire!

Megan is a fully qualified and professional face painter who launched in 2019. Let’s hear from Megan who is talking to us about her new and unique Face Bling product.

What is Face Bling?

Bling is an additional piece to add dimension to face painting or can be used on their own. Similar to face jewels, the concept is a series of gems placed together to create a single item. This has always been a popular addition, but I have always liked being different. So I discovered bling artistry which is popular amongst facepainters overseas, but not very well known here in Australia. Bling is also a great upsell for children's facepaint parties and markets.

What makes Magical Megs bling so unique?

I go beyond the face jewels and create by hand a variety of bling. My most popular is the 3D unicorn horns which I create using silk clay. Once dried, they are added together with other gems and items using tulip fabric paint. It is best to use plastic sleeves or wax baking paper as when they dry, the bling peels off easily meaning that you can reuse the sleeve or paper.

I also aim to be gender neutral and inclusive of all ages.

What events and themes are popular for Face Bling?

Bling can be used at festivals such as Mardi Gras as well.

In terms of themes, I have created superhero splats, monster and dragon horns, princess crowns and themes such as Frozen, mermaid tails, fairy wings, butterfly gems, etc. the list goes on as I look at being more creative.

Do you have any interesting facts about your Face Bling?

Once dried, the bling is placed on medical grade double sided tape which is safe for the skin. You can also use a skin adhesive such as prosaid or eyelash glue.

Bling can reused this way or can be turned into something else such as a keyring, bookmark, anything creative.

Bling can be made with a variety of materials, not just plastic gems. For example, my fairy wings are organza material, the cachabons are glass, mermaid tails are resin. Last year, I was part of a group at Halloween which had a project to create bling out of household items. I discovered that buttons were a great use.

FLOWER CAKE TOPPER TUTORIAL

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THE BEAUTY OF FRESH FLOWERS! ADDING BLOOMS TO YOUR CELEBRATION CAKE IS A BEAUTIFUL WAY TO ADORN YOUR CAKE AND ADD THAT ‘WOW’ FACTOR. LET ME SHOW YOU HOW TO CREATE A VERSATILE FLOWER CAKE TOPPER THAT’LL BE SURE TO IMPRESS YOUR GUESTS!

METHOD

We’re going to start our flower cake topper by creating the base for our flowers to sit in. This will involve using our jar lid and floral foam - the jar lid will sit on our cake and hold the floral foam in place, which is where our flowers will be inserted.

We want to start by cutting our floral foam to the size and shape of the jar lid. Press your jar lid lightly into the foam to create an impression. Using your knife, and the impression as a guide, cut your foam to size. We want the foam to fit nice and snug in that jar lid!

Now it’s time to adjust the height of our foam. The taller your piece of foam is, the more flowers you’ll need and consequently the larger your cake topper will be. I cut off approx ¼ off from the top of my foam, but feel free to adjust the height of your foam how you see fit.

We also want the top of our foam to sit more curved and rounded to make it easier for us to place our flowers. Cut around the top edge of your foam (getting rid of those sharp sides) until it has that rounded edge. 2

TOOLS + MATERIALS

• Jar lid

• Scissors

• Floral tape (optional)

• Turnatable (optional)

• Wet floral foam

• Bowl of water

• Assorted flowers, including greenery, filler flowers and at least three feature flowers to serve as your main focal point.

Dip and hold your shaped foam in your bowl of water for approx 30 seconds. Once removed from the bowl, give it a small shake to remove excess drips. The foam will absorb and retain water to help keep our flowers alive and lasting while sitting on our cake.

4. Insert your piece of foam into your jar lid. It might be a tight fit, but that’s exactly what we want to avoid any movement. If your foam feels loose or too small, use florist tape to adhere the foam to the lid. Our topper base is now done!

It’s now time to add our beautiful flowers and greenery to our topper!

Firstly, we’re going to start by building up the outer bottom edge with greenery. Simply insert a good portion of the stem into your foam to secure your greenery and florals in place. If the stem is too long, use your scissors to cut the stem to size. Remember to have fun playing with different angles, sizes and lengths!

Note: I’ve placed my cake topper on a turntable to make it easier to move my topper around. It’s not necessary, but it definitely makes the job easier!

Once you’ve established the bottom edge with greenery, it’s time to add in your feature flowers. These can be positioned anywhere on your topper to draw your eye! Feel free to stagger these flowers and use odd numbers for something more natural and freeform.

Now fill in the remainder of your topper with filler flowers and greenery! Have fun playing with a loose simple arrangement or go for something tighter and rounder - you can’t go wrong!

8.Voila! Your beautiful flower cake topper is now finished and ready to ‘wow’! Simply secure your topper onto the top of your cake using some leftover cake icing.

An Easter Harvest

Happy Easter with our Autumnal feast! We’re celebrating the season with a bountiful harvest of fresh produce and warm roasts. Who says Easter has to be all about bunnies and pastels? This was a cosy, rustic celebration of the changing seasons.

Desiring a departure from the more popular Easter party colour schemes, we planned our spread for the holiday that celebrates all things bunnies around the colour orange.

Whilst often overpowering, orange is also vibrant and enthusiatic. More importantly, it is also reminiscent of the season we are currently experiencing and celebrating Easter in the southern hemisphere– Autumn.

It was a perfect starting point for all the elements that came together to create this rustic and unique Easter table – without appearing too much like Halloween or Thanksgiving. Two things we were actively trying to avoid.

On trend gingham set the base for the table, in a stunning amber shade. The table was topped with tangerine bright cloth napkins, customised with cute bunny and chick silhouettes in gold using our Cricut Maker and Heatpress.

We started with white and peach plates, gold cutlery and on-trend orange glasses. Autumn leaves embellished the table which was then laden with a delicious roast, earthy veggies, a rustic grazing platter, fresh fruit and a sweets display featuring hot cross buns, tarts and more.

The carrot cake topped off with two carrots was a perfect way to bring it back to the traditional Easter theme. It was a delicious and gorgeous way to celebrate an Autumn Easter! H

Fresh produce is a unique and sustainable way to add pops of colour to a tablescape, whilst also helping to fill in gaps. More is more when it comes to photos!

You can customise almost any surface to create a custom look. In this spread, we customise some round MDF pieces from the kids craft section of officeworks to make customised coasters and name plates.
