Fair Play Festival El pasado 20 de marzo se celebró en SEK-Ciudalcampo la VII Fair Play Festival, una jornada deportiva en la que prima el juego en equipo y la no competitividad dentro del deporte. Más de 900 alumnos de todos los colegios SEK de Madrid participaron en este evento en las categorías deportivas de atletismo, natación, fútbol, tenis y baloncesto, con el único objetivo de promover la vida saludable y el compañerismo a través del deporte. En esta jornada, que tiene también carácter solidario, todos los participantes han contribuido a una campaña de recogida de alimentos y productos de primera necesidad a favor de la ONG Olvidados, que tiene varios programas de ayuda para los refugiados de Siria. ■
Fair Play Festival On 20 March, the 7th Fair Play Festival was held at SEKCiudalcampo, a sports day where team play and non-competitiveness in sport prevail.

Este invierno en Early Childhood 1 de SEK-El Castillo se ha trabajado la unidad de indagación Cómo funciona el mundo con una idea central: las diferentes estaciones provocan cambios en nuestro entorno y en nosotros mismos.
In Early Childhood 1 this winter we have been working on the unit of inquiry How the world works and our central idea stated: The different seasons provoke changes in our environment and ourselves.
Y se ha hecho de una forma divertida: se han organizado las Pequeñas Olimpiadas de invierno 2018. Los esquís estaban hechos de cartón, el hockey se jugaba en canchas de hielo hechas de grandes cajas de cartón y los patines eran botellas de agua recicladas. El circuito de salto de altura se hizo usando una silla y una colchoneta con diferentes colores pegados. Durante los juegos de duatlón, se usaron patines diferentes, cajas de zapatos con agujeros recortados en la parte superior. Bobsleigh se hizo al aire libre y los niños usaron los grandes coches de juguete, jugando de dos en dos (uno en el coche y el otro empujando) y el trineo de perros se imitó utilizando los grandes coches de juguete y cuerdas.
Skis were made out of cardboard, hockey was played on ice pitches made out of big cardboard boxes and skates were recycled water bottles. The High jump circuit was using a chair and a mat on which we stuck different colours. During the duathlon games children used different skates, shoeboxes with holes cut out of the top. Bobsleighing was done outdoors and the children used the big toy cars, playing in pairs (one on the car and the other one pushing) and Dog sleighing was mimicked using the big toy cars and ropes. Different medals were given to every child depending on their ranking in the games, whilst standing on the podium. Not only did the children learn how to play in teams and respect each other but they had great fun.
A la ceremonia de clausura asistieron los alumnos mayores de la etapa para apoyar a sus amigos con una gran bandera olímpica hecha por la clase. El director del Colegio y la coordinadora de Early Childhood entregaron las medallas olímpicas, también realizadas manualmente por los alumnos.
There was a closing ceremony where we invited our headmaster and coordinator to give out the Olympic medals that were made in class. A large Olympic flag made by the class was held by the older children who came to see the final games and support their friends.
Si los niños no sienten que triunfan y disfrutan como aprendices, evitarán profundizar en el aprendizaje. Deben sentir que el esfuerzo de aprender trae cierta satisfacción. Jugar ayuda a que esto suceda y eso es lo que los convertirá en aprendices de por vida. ■
If children never feel successful as learners, they will avoid deep learning. They have to feel that the effort of learning brings some satisfaction. Play helps this to come about and that is what will make them learners for life. ■
Over 900 students from all SEK schools in Madrid participated in this event in athletics, swimming, football, tennis and basketball, with the sole objective of promoting healthy living and fair play in sports. The event also has a fund raising component, a campaign to collect food and essential products in favour of the NGO Olivados, with several aid programmes for refugees from Syria. ■
