t seems like every (Pick a word: day, month, year) we attempt to bring order to some chaotic part of our (Pick a word: jobs, homes, lives), only to be thwarted by something we didn’t foresee. Try as we may to maintain consistency, something always interrupts the balance. So, what can we do?

Plan as Best You Can Whether or not you think of yourself as “a planner,” you are one. You have certain expectations and you take actions to keep yourself on course. For example, maybe you didn’t foresee the crazy lumber market—but you’ve been taking action for countless months in response, planning as best you can for the roller coaster ride. Whether you heed expert advice or simply trust your gut, you’re getting yourself from point A to point B. Go ahead and congratulate yourself when you feel like you’re getting things right. On the flip-side though, you don’t have to beat yourself up when you feel like you got something wrong. That’s the nature of uncertainty—you’ll never be right every single time. Planning can help you be “more right” though, so it’s still worth the effort.
Keep It in Perspective (Especially) when things seem to be slipping out of your control, stop for a minute and think about your perspective. Is this the worst thing that could have happened? Probably not. Could something much better have happened? Absolutely! Did it? No. Do you wish circumstances were better? Yes. Okay, so what can you do now to move from this point A to a better point B? Unexpected events can ruin your (Pick a word: day, business, life), but you can’t stop them from happening. All you can do is ride the roller coaster as best you can.
