Importance of Play Why play matters

Did you know that play is super important for everyone? It’s not just about having fun (although that’s a big part of it!). Play helps us all grow, stay healthy, and build strong relationships. When kids play, they get to explore the world around them, solve problems, and let their creativity shine. It’s a time to be themselves, learn new things, and make awesome friends. Plus, playtime brings families and communities closer together, creating happy memories and strong bonds. But lately, we’ve had fewer chances to play. The pandemic made it hard for families to find places to play and hang out. And with the cost-of-living crisis, many families can’t afford to travel or pay for expensive activities.

That’s why we’re making play a top priority! We want Wandsworth to be the best place to grow up, where everyone knows how important play is for our children and young people. We’re working with our partners to make sure every child in the borough has access to fun and inclusive play opportunities right in their local area. In 2025, we’re celebrating the Year
