A healthy, resilient and sustainable neighbourhood
We have heard that your community has always valued its open spaces, parks and play spaces—places where people can gather, relax, and connect with nature. While there are many green spaces, some are underused and don’t feel well-maintained. However, the allotments, though hidden, are beautifully maintained and popular.
We are exploring ideas about how the open spaces and parks might be reconfigured to work better for now and into the future. To create public open spaces that are welcoming, natural, and accessible to everyone – which feel safe. To create spaces which are great for children to play, young adults to hang out and for older people to relax and socialise.
We have heard that people value being near the countryside and the leisure park, but that it is not easy to access these areas
without a car. We are exploring ideas to make it easier to get to those places, for recreation and leisure, to help residents to keep healthy.
We have heard that there are some locations where flooding and wet ground is an issue. We know that there was a particularly difficult period of flooding in Buckskin in 2014. Our research shows us where there is a higher risk of flooding and where the natural water courses are.
We are exploring ideas for how the open space could best work to manage the risk of flooding, to celebrate the natural landscape and to help manage future climate impacts like flooding and heat.
