Rate 1 and 1(a) to be aligned with the wage rate applicable to the general worker rate in the bargaining council for the civil engineering industry

Watchmen’s conditions of employment Watchmen’s maximum normal hours of work are 44 hours per week. Watchmen’s conditions of employment are in all other respects the same as any other scheduled workers, i.e. shift allowances, overtime conditions and overtime rates.

Payment of classified wages All employees must be paid at the rate specified in the agreement for their particular class of work. The rates referred to in this section also apply to employees on incentive bonus work.

Board and lodging No employee may be required to accept board and/or lodging from an employer or to purchase or hire any property from an employer. When an employee does agree to accept board and/or

lodging from the employer, the employer may deduct from the employee’s wages the amount for board and/or lodging as agreed upon, provided that the council has been notified in writing prior to the deduction being made.

Rate for the job or substitution (acting or allowance) No employee may be employed in a week on more than one scheduled occupation at different rates of pay unless he is paid at the rate for the highest paid occupation for the whole week. Where a lower-rated employee is requested to act in the capacity of a higher-rated employee for more than 4 hours, the employee must receive an acting allowance, from the first hour of acting, calculated as his/her actual rate plus 20% of the higher scheduled rate, on the proviso that the employee cannot earn above the minimum rate for the higher rated job. Periods of substitution of less than half a shift in aggregate over one week do not count for payment at the higher rate.
