Short-time working procedure

The following flowchart of the short-time process summarises and illustrates the sequence of the various components of the short-time procedure and management’s obligations.

NOTE

No notice is required in respect of short time working caused by unforeseen contigencies and /or circumstances beyond the control of the employer including but not limited to power problems, interruptions and/or failures, machinery breakdown, theft, fire and/or flood.

NEED TO WORK SHORT-TIME Where an employer wishes to temporarily reduce working hours as a consequence of:

IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION

(NO NOTICE REQUIRED)

A shortage of work or materials

WRITTEN NOTIFICATION (FIVE CALENDAR DAYS PRIOR

NOTICE INCLUDING SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS)

 Bargaining Council  Representative trade unions  Affected employees

CONSULTATION PROCESS Consult shop stewards and affected employees over the manner of implementation of the short-time arrangement

IMPLEMENT SHORT-TIME HOURS
