Building a Desktop CNC Computerized Milling Machine

Come to this camp and with the help of the instructor and other campers build a Desktop Engraving Machine. This is a machine that a computer can control to make precise etchings and shapes in wood, plastic, and soft metals. You will be etching/cutting example pieces from wood and plastic during the class. Once the kit is built the instructor will show how to create your own designs using no-cost software. The machine you make is yours to take home at the end of the week.

Mandalas of the World

The word mandala means “circle” in Sanskrit, a classical Indian language. Many cultures make mandalas that can be used as focal points for meditation, as cultural or historical representation or to tell stories. This class will explore mandalas around the world including classic Buddhist and Native American mandalas, explore the history of mandalas and look at modern mandalas. Students will learn the geometry of construction so that they can create their own personal Mandala as a symbolic representation of who they are.

First Frets: Beginning Guitar

Eric Nohe—mentor to the guitarist and bassist of the rock band The Fray— leads this fun, hands-on guitar camp for aspiring musicians. Learn how to read notes and chords, strum along to well-known rock and country tunes, and build your confidence with rhythm and technique. Campers will also explore the basics of solo and lead guitar playing, giving you the tools to start developing your own unique sound. No experience needed—just a love for music and a desire to play! Students will need to bring their own bass or guitar to camp.

Uke Can Do It! Beginner Ukulele Camp

Join us for a fun and welcoming camp designed for anyone wanting to learn the ukulele! Women in Welding: Sewing with Fire

According to the American Welding Society, more than 300,000 welding positions are projected to open nationwide by 2028. Despite this demand, women currently represent just 5% of the welding workforce. This camp is designed to shift that dynamic by equipping middle and high school girls with foundational skills in a high-demand trade. Under the expert guidance of CMU Technical Instructor of Welding, Giovanna Martinez, and the skilled women of CMU Tech’s welding department, participants will receive hands-on training in MIG, TIG, and stick welding, safety protocols, and basic fabrication techniques. Whether students are exploring a future in advanced manufacturing, engineering, or artisan metalwork, this camp offers an empowering entry point into a technically rigorous and rewarding career path.
